The Gandhi Indian Cuisine in Exeter

Me and my good friend ordered a takeaway Gandhi at around 19:40 Friday evening through Deliveroo. Deliveroo estimated an hour for delivery, but the food was here by 20:10 which was great as we were both hungry. The Gandhi, like usual, does not disappoint. We ordered a fairly large meal for two people, a hot lamb tikka Pathia, and a medium king prawn Ceylon. Both were very delicious. The Pathia was exceptionally flavoursome and not very oily which is so ideal. The Ceylon was lovely and rich in flavour. In addition to the curries we ordered some poppadoms, which were crispy and delicious. As well as many onion bhaji’s which were just also great, very crispy and with really rich onion flavours. I got a zeera rice which I hadn’t tried before but will happily have again, really great herby aroma. My friend ordered the vegetable rice, both of us agreed the portion sizes were great and delicious! We cleaned it all up with some lovely peshwari naan breads, very coconuty and complemented the coconutyness of the Ceylon, and the sweet sour tang of the Pathia! Overall, absolutely sterling meal from the Gandhi, great value for money, generous portion sizes, flavoursome food. 5/5⭐️. 🟦 As we ordered through Deliveroo American Express credit cards were accepted, but the Gandhi also accepts them in store if dining in.

Brilliant service very friendly lovely food

I tried the Tandoori Mix grill, Cheese Nan and the lamb biriyani with Tarka dal. The meat was soft ,juicy and it had a smell of pure Indian spices. Tarka dal was like a cherry on the cake for the Biriyani. And words can’t describe the Cheese Nan. Overall I loved the experience of authentic indian cuisines after a long time. Highly recommended, probably best in the town.

Unknowingly chewed on a gross piece of nail from the curry, immediately vomited afterwards 👎

Recommended by my son. First time order and will definitely use again. Best Indian in Exeter so far! Very quick delivery time, the take away trays were filled to capacity, meat dishes weren’t shy of meat and very very good quality food. To round off the service, the delivery chap rang to check location (communal front door) and was really pleasant. FIVE STAR service all round *****

Never again!! The service was terrible from the moment we walked in. And when leaving we did not give a tip which they asked for three times. A tip is for good service. My Korma meat was really dry. Wont go again.

Eaten at every Indian in Exeter, and I'm sorry but Gandhi is by far the best , staff all so friendly and there chicken madras by far is my favorite have it every month as a treat ! I recommend eating in but takeaway Is just as good !

I have used The Gandhi 5 times before, once eating in the restaurant, all the rest through Deliveroo. The first 4 times were 5 stars, undoubtedly. However, today’s Deliveroo order was less satisfactory. The wait for three meals, curry, rice and popadoms was 1 hour after ordering. Although this was the time predicted by Deliveroo, in previous experience delivery had often been within 30 mins, with the app still predicting it would be an hour, so perhaps we were used to the shorter times. Food was good, but not as good as previous experiences. I ordered the Chef Special Naga Lamb, which was disappointing. I was expecting a large amount of spice, which I am keen on. However what I received was less spicy than my friends King Prawn Balti, which he has no complaints about. This was annoying, as I ordered the Naga Lamb dish expecting a spice challenge. This was made worse by the fact it also lacked a lot of flavour which was upsetting. My other friend ordered the Lamb Biryani which he enjoyed - however would have prefered it to have not have peas, however that’s down to his taste. Overall, we will remain loyal to The Gandhi as our Exeter Indian restaurant of choice. Hoping that in the future, the curries will remain flavoursome and spicy as they always have been. Side note: The Gandhi accepts American Express credit cards.

A truly traditional Indian Restaurant including the squeaky wooden trolley, tea light plate warmers and hot face towels! A truly great experience with super service. The food was fresh and so tasty, the chef cooked my lamb tikka passanda exactly how I asked for it and the lamb was so soft and tasty. The staff were happy and very attentive and the place was clean. Ordered online as we have done before, delivery was early. But what a terrible meal Curry sauce like water and very little taste, also peshwari naan was nothing like ones we have had here before. Pretty sure the chef has changed or maybe changed hands but we won't be giving them any more of our money. A lot of money wasted

The onion bhajee was ok. The chicken rezala was enjoyed. Cauliflower bhajee was a bit overcooked and although the lamb in the karahi fell apart, the dish was rather tasteless.

Dont let the outside fool you. Inside they will serve you authentic dishes with the proper spice! Very tasty.

Chicken chaat puri and sahi paneer was so delicious and savory, remind me my home town with the test. 🥹🥹🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Well what can I say. I came across the Gandhi after looking for a curry that tasted as good as the gurkah in Torquay which is were I never tasted a curry like never before. I'm a vegetarian so was trying to get a curry in Exeter as good as there's and on the menu it was the exact same order I had in the previous curry house. I ordered from Gandhi last night and I ordered a vegetarian korma with coconut milk etc and fries and coconut rice. I was breathing taken. My god the curry was fantastic and tastes like the experience I had before coming across you guys . Will be using you again and again for same curry as it was out of this world. Good tasting quality ingredients with proper sticky coconut rice. The chips were beautiful and great size portion. Nice and crisp and fresh and food was piping hot. Gandhi restaurant I can't say thankyou for one of the best Currys I've had in years. You've got a regular customer.

Went all old school last night ..few beers round town then in for a curry, not been to The Ghandi for a while and to be honest forgot how nice it is, great servers, good atmosphere due to it being busy and great food my Jalfrezi was delicious as was the tandoori mixed grill and Biryani..can't beat a good curry 😋😋

Delivery person could not find house, when told how to get to us still didn’t want to go. Food was then cold when we got it

Horrible delivery service. Driver could not find my address because he did not even attempted to use Google maps to look for it. Did not speak a word of English which made communication difficult. Called the restaurant and they were not helpful either. Waited for more than an hour then called the driver again. He told me to come to the restaurant to pick it up?! Then what's the point of a deliveroo delivery if I have to walk all the way to the restaurant to pick it up?????

Curry too watery and containers are only 75percent full bit pricey for what you get and you have to pay for for the rice separately it does say that on the menu's

This is on a home delivery the vindaloo chicken 🐔 was half excellent and half horrible the chicken and the potatoes was 💯 percent lovely 🌹 but dispite leaving a note on the order website for extra garlic butter it had less than normal and was very dried out and hard and worst was the sauce part of the curry was like watery and the container was only 80 percent full.but they did give me two Pomp's for the price of one.delivery man had a lovely 😍 smile on his face

Only chapati packing is very very bad service so please use a foil paper for chapati packing and also you service charge is very high so use foil paper for covering a chapti next time

Super friendly staff, delicious food and nice filling portions. We arrived without a reservation on a surprisingly busy Tuesday evening, but were soon accommodated on a table for four. Service was prompt, lots of vegan and vegetarian options and as always I went for the vegetable byriani. Super tasty.

Staying in Exeter for a couple of nights and just across the road from our hotel was The Gandhi Indian Restaurant. Didn’t want to walk too far for dinner after a busy day so over we went. Nice neat place, the guys there were all super friendly and very polite. We ordered a couple of chicken dishes, with rice and Nam Bread. One was mild , the other quite hot, both very good . For entree we had the meat Samosas with mint sauce So it was a good choice

Came across this place by chance from reading the reviews, we live 2 hours away and we're passing through. We were not disappointed. We can be quite fussy with food, but I have to say this is probably one of the best Indian restaurants we have visited. I cannot fault any of the food or the service. The price is also very reasonable. If we are in the area again, we will definitely be back.

we had a delivery to our home used to go there a couple of years ago. and it was good has it changed hands the food was awful both meals went in the bin .I expect we wont get a reply to this email if the food is anything to go by will not be back and will pass onto people after all word of mouth can do more damage paid a lot of money for rubbish food also going on trip advisor to complaine . mrs g noonan

Decided to have a family Indian Takeaway and decided to try the Gandhi Indian by the Clock Tower Sadly disappointed Spent nearly £100 We found that the portions were small with less meat than previously yet the price had gone up The Gandhi was our favourite but sadly we will not be back in a hurry

Like nothing we've ever tasted...boys wanted a curry...as we were only tourists we had to rely on Trip Advisor reviews...not disappointed...food, atmosphere, service 100%...would we travel 3 hours to eat here again??...yes we would

Went last night , the food was very nice and reasonable , service charge of ten per cent added at end which was fine as the service was good . All our food was perfect and very tasty indeed . Definitely worth a visit , we thought one of the best we have had in a long time , we have tried Karma in the city too but this was much better .

One of the best and authentic Indian food I tasted in the UK. The staffs were super friendly and helpful in every possible way. Apart from the service and food it’s the small things which makes a place worth going every now and then. Little things such as accessibility, special requests accomodation, c complementary chocolate and hot napkins. Edit: I also tried the place for online delivery. The food was as delicious as I would guess and reviewed earlier. I tested the place by complaining on a trivial matter. The person on call was polite, knew his food and also calm at the same time. So again, the place is one of the best for dine-in and delivery. Bottom line- this place is worth all the admiration. Loved the experience. Also: there were many many options for vegetarians also. Cheers to that as well.

Always a great welcome with delicious food, I come to this restaurant every month when passing through on business this is my 4th time of visiting Tonight, I explained what I liked and they gave me recommendation of the “Naga Lamb” slightly hotter than madras but with more flavour with spice & taste An excellent Recommendation which I enjoyed I arrived around 6:15pm the restaurant started to get a good number of people coming in early evening, nice atmosphere The staff couldn’t look after you any better. Great taste and excellent value The restaurant is slightly worn and the exterior doesn’t look welcoming, the front sign part is missing - put that to one side you can’t food food or service

it's a bit of a cliche, but I think this is the best indian food in Exeter, always tasty, always good quality and I've never been disappointed. their jalfrezi is absolutely gorgeous, the Peshawar naan always soft and fluffy, great kurma, and the sag bhaji vindaloo is to die for. no need to go anywhere else, trust me...

I nearly always have the same in an Indian, lamb madras. Really good, not for the faint hearted!

Honestly the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. The food is always excellent, there is a large range and they are always happy to cater to you. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming and there is a great atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone!

This is a very good restaurant my daughter took me here for a meal and the food was very good indeed, the dhal was nice and thick and tasty and the Bombay potatoes were properly cooked in a delicious sauce. The service is very good and caring to check everything was going well and we had what we wanted.

First time visiting the area, I tried the chicken kasundi which is a first for me as I have never heard of this dish before. Absolutely loved the dish. I don't live around this area otherwise it definitely would be my go to restaurant. Also, the waiters were very friendly and polite even during the busy hours on a Rugby night.

We had a good meal. It was a Friday night so I was glad I booked a table.

Couldn't get a table until late in the evening, (our fault should have booked) we opted for a takeaway having been at the rugby all day. Great tasty food and quick service, will book in advance next time we are in Exeter.

I had dinner with my friend who lives locally and recommended the restaurant. We were both hugely disappointed with the quality of the food and the hygiene of the dining area. Service was friendly (not sufficiently attentive though ) and fast but the quality of the main dishes was poor - both of us said we could make better ourselves. We are guilty of not complaining at the restaurant and using this platform to vent our dissatisfaction. We could of handled it better but certainly the restaurant was a disappointment. I hope the restaurant owners and staff learn from our review and do better.

This was the absolute best experience that I have ever had in a restaurant! Beautiful presentation, perfect layout, welcoming and kind service and every single word in the world could not describe how amazing the food was! My favourite Indian restaurant in Exeter. Food is always top quality, service is fantastic. Parking a little awkward so I suggest walking. Only quibble is they auto add service charge to the receipt but you can request to be taken off

I placed an order through Deliveroo on February 10th for delivery. Whilst eating the meal, I bit into something very hard and was shocked to find a large piece of glass in the curry (see photos attached). Unfortunately the glass chipped my tooth, although this seems a fairly lucky escape as it could have caused significant risk if consumed. Since the incident I have attempted to reach out to the restaurant in order that they may take the proper steps to remedy the situation. However I have repeatedly been ignored and dismissed (phone conversations, messages to the manager etc). The manager consistently referred me to Deliveroo and claimed to have no responsibility, in spite of the restaurant preparing and serving the food in question, and Deliveroo saying the responsibility lay with them. I am extremely disappointed. The utter disregard for what was a very serious complaint. They have not offered to even refund the meal, pay for costly dentist treatment or take any steps to acknowledge the incident and as such it seems completely irresponsible management. Most worryingly they also took zero interest, on the night in question, in finding out what dish was contaminated. I have waited a number of days to give the restaurant the chance to get in touch and resolve the matter but unfortunately now feel no choice but to post a negative review.

Lovely food, and a nice central location. I had the Chicken Pasanda which was mild but very tasty. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Exeter area.
