Came here after travelling to the area to complete Clapham to Ingleborough hike. We arrived 10 minutes before the kitchen closed but it was no problem at all. We ordered the roasts which were absolutely incredible followed by dessert, tiramisu, one of the best I have had. My friend needed gluten free which was fully catered for. Service was amazing, all the food was as amazing and to top it off, the onsite patisserie I couldnt resist and went away with 4 items from there which are all amazing! Highly highly recommmed this place

Had the Sunday Christmas dinner here the week before Christmas and it was absolutely magnificent. Would definitely come here for a Sunday roast again if in the area.

What an incredible little pub! Super dog friendly, gorgeous beer garden and lovely comfortable rooms. The food was amazing and the staff were so helpful and friendly. Absolutely loved our stay, having proper milk in a fridge for our morning cuppa was also a lovely touch. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back soon.

Happened to be in the area walking in Clapham nearby. This pub rated highly on TripAdvisor so decided to give it a go, definitely not disappointed. Lovely welcome from the guy at the bar & he found us a table in the bar (we had a dog). Very busy (Wednesday), think we were lucky to get a table - suggest booking ahead. I had the daily special - fruit de mar pie - like no other fish pie I’ve ever had, absolutely tremendous, full of flavour & various fish - what a dish! My wife had the salmon baguette which was packed with lovely salmon (I had to help her….) This is proper food, in a proper pub not cheap but it’s worth every penny based on this visit. If we are in the area again - we will be back!

We visited The Game Cock Pub in Austwick with family after a day of walking in the Dales, and I’m so glad we did! We called in on the off chance they could accommodate us for an evening meal, and despite the main pub being absolutely packed, they kindly offered us a table in the bakery, which was just fine. The staff were fantastic, quickly setting the table for us and bringing drinks right away. We ordered the house burger for two of us, and the third person chose a vegetarian option. The food was delicious and served in generous portions—absolutely no complaints there! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service was spot on. I can't fault this place at all and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the area. We’ll certainly be back next time we’re in the Dales!

My wife and I had a fantastic meal here on February the 14th round and I will thoroughly recommend the restaurant to anybody in the area looking for the very best in fine food and a great atmosphere and a seriously wonderful value for money experience. PHIL

Lovely traditional pub Welcome couple of ales after a 10k walk

Just had a fantastic 2 night stay in the family room (room 1). Spacious room for 3 adults and one teenager. Dined in the restaurant both nights and the food was delicious! The chef is French so there are French dishes on the menu. Generous portions meant that on night 2 we were too full for dessert. The staff are friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was cooked fresh each morning and we had cereals and a cooked breakfast (you need to order the night before). The pub has its own patisserie as well so we were able to take some treats away with us when we left. Our whole stay was very good value and we hope to return again one day.

We’ve been here regularly now for 12 months. Although not eating often, we have eaten many times and the food has always been faultless. We had visitors over the weekend and decided to book a table at the Gamecock (we actually wanted them to appreciate the food and service). As always service was amazing from Dave and Charlie. Food excellent. We all ate something different and all meals superb. Thanks for a lovely night.

Not a great customer service experience Booked a week in advance for Saturday evening at 6pm, 6 walkers plus dogs. £30 deposit paid. 17:30 on the day called ahead out of curtesy to say we are running 20min or so late following 9 hours of walking. The response was that there were a lot of bookings and if we were that late we would be treated as a walk-in and food would be a lot later. Not great. But we upped the pace and got there at 18:15. It was then a surprise that dogs were in the group. So rather than a table in the heated pub we were moved to a small table in the front cold glassed area. While walking one of our party dropped out due to injury. When the bill came the young waiter went on the explain that only £25 of the deposit would be deducted from the £170 bill due to 5/6 people making the booking. “That’s how deposits work” 😂 Well that cost him a £20 tip. Could have been really good end to the day. Staff however tried their hardest to stop this.

Lovely little traditional pub in a country village. We went for a walk in the Dales in the morning and stopped by here for Sunday lunch. Very dog friendly and one of the best roasts we have all ever had. I also highly recommend visiting for the bakery also! Highly recommend the vegetarian Sunday roast and the garlic prawns in lobster sauce.

After Ten years living close by, this was always our favourite place to eat. Loved it and miss it so much since having to move south. Love to all and hope to be back one day.

Husband and I came here after a hike up ingleborough with out pooche Angel, beautiful food and amazing service. Great chats with other visitors and the locals, how a local pub should be. Dave behind the bar was amazing, friendly and very attentive. If we're ever in the area again we will certainly come back. We hear it's a popular stop during busy periods to the point of ques out the door, I'll say it's worth the pit stop.

A cosy and friendly little pub with a roaring fire - perfect for a winter's day. It's very dog friendly (Elvis appreciated roasting himself by the fire, as you can see). We had coffee and hot chocolate and all the trimmings (you can also order it with Baileys) served by the friendly and helpful staff. There is a bakery in the other half of the pub (and accommodation upstairs). If you want a slice of traditional Dales' hospitality, visit this old English pub in the sweet village of Austwick - it's wonderful.

Lovely Country pub venue, amazing food. On a wet and cold Saturday, a drive out to the pub was on the cards. This was our first visit, and we will definitely be back. The fire and welcome were warm. The team could not have been more attentive. Thank you to all and Molly who served us. The food is cooked to order and from start to finish was amazing. Small venue but a big impression.

Location is a bit out of the way but is part of what made it great Unfortunately was unable to stay overnight but the food and service were brilliant, highly recommend if in the vicinity!!

Justo al lado de la A 65 situado en el pequeño pueblo de Austwick. Se detuvo en el camino al Distrito de los Lagos y estaba lleno de comensales. Lograron apretarnos y qué delicia, la comida es excelente, el servicio excelente y volveré pronto. Tuve un dúo de bourguignon de ternera, puré y poulet a la moutarde, encantador. Aparentemente el Chef Francés ha trabajado en Michelin Kitchens y su comida está lista. Las cervezas son muy buenas también.

We had an amazing evening at the Game Cock Inn. We'd booked a table for a Thursday evening which happened to be French dining night. The food was absolutely superb, the staff were very friendly and welcoming and as there was a local live folk band playing, the atmosphere was amazing. It really topped off the last night of our weeks holiday. We would definitely recommend this pub 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We had a wonderful lunch at the Game Cock - the food was excellent, the pub has a lovely atmosphere, and the staff went above and beyond. We had the burgers, which were some of the best we've had, and we eat a lot of burgers. All staff were attentive and friendly, but Molly, who looked after us, made us feel particularly welcome and looked after us so well (adults, baby and Labrador all). Thank you so much!

Service was outstanding. We visited with four adults and four kids, without a booking, and they couldn't do enough for us. Menu is superb, great decor inside, and brilliant staff. Highly recommended.

Can’t recommend this place highly enough! The food was absolutely delicious one of the best meals out we’ve had! The staff and service was fantastic and the deserts we took home were beautiful.

Was staying in nearby Helwith Bridge so popped in for evening meal to see how things were as it seemed to be closed for a while earlier in the year when we were last in the area. Staff very friendly and found us a table in the bakery which was fine albeit a bit draughty with folk coming in and out on what was a wet and windy night. It still had a French theme but wasn't clear if it was new owners. The menus were very different to what we found online too which was a tad confusing. Overall this is a cosy pub with a traditional feel and a nice atmosphere with a reasonable selection of beers on hand pump (given it's a tide pub). More of a foodie pub though so if you're just in for a beer it will probably be standing room only. Definitely worth a visit.

Called in for a drink after passing by. The pub is quite small inside, but there's plenty of seating outdoors. They do food too, but we only had a drink today. Lovely place to stop for a drink.

A great asset to the village with the fresh bread and confectionery to go. Also appears to be a popular venue for lunch; I’m only here for the beer and the Thwaites Original is pouring well. Friendly, attentive staff throughout makes this pub a must visit destination.

Sunday roast was very nice. Save room for a delicious cake to take home from the little bakery, which is part of the pub. Would recommend booking as very popular, which is no surprise. Edited..... We have just eaten our cakes and they are amazing.

Stop in on French night. As soon as you walk in, you are treated to the smell of fresh bread. I must say the grub was unbelievable (in a good way). Well done, chief. Front of house were welcoming and attentive. All in all, I had a bonne soirée.

Great pub, visited whilst staying in the area, friendly staff, good service. Just had drinks but the food menu looked good and popular so you need to book. Dog friendly with a bakery attached. The premises were well kept and clean. Will visit again and have a meal next time.

Exceptional food and for the quality was reasonably priced. There is also a patisserie selling tarts if you do not want a full meal. Service was warm and welcoming.

Simply one of the best places we have been for a good pub grub experience. The place is wonderful with little nooks and side room. Proper old country feel with a great freindy atmosphere. The staff where great and the food was amazing. Absolutely we will be back 100%

We dined in the restaurant only so cant comment on thr rooms, but theyxdid look lovely! We came here as a large group of 24, sat across several tables. We honestly can't complain about a thing, service was impeccable and the food was amazing! Sometimes with large groups, food woll come out at different times, but we were all served at the same time. We will return when we are next in the area

Only stopped here for a meal while stopping in Cowgill. Firstly there was 20 in our party which was difficult to accommodate for and all the other places we looked at couldn't do this, so first tick. Secondly the service was excellent, very friendly and professional staff who couldn't do enough for us. Finally, the food was amazing. We were recommended by the waitress that the Lamb shank was excellent so decided to go for it and them that had it were not disappointed, it was amazing. The general decor and atmosphere of the place was great too, so overall I'd definitely recommend The Gamecock. The only disappointing thing I can mention is the fact that I live so far away as we were all away for a few days celebrating several 50th birthday's, I would absolutely love to go back here and if I was ever around the area again I'll be definitely booking to go back. Well done to you all 5☆

My husband and I stopped at The Game Cock yesterday after a week staying in nearby Horton in Ribblesdale and we wish we’d have found it sooner. It’s a wonderfully cozy little pub with lots of little nooks and crannies. It also has a brilliant beer garden at the back. We’d eaten before we got to the pub but the food looked and smelt fantastic. I’m hoping we will be able to return some other time and enjoy the Sunday lunch and something from the on site bakery. Unlike both of the pubs in Horton, the staff here were friendly and welcoming… and permitted dogs in the pub.

Food as always is top notch, 5 stars for the food however I have removed 2 stars, 1 for me having to almost beg the waitress to ask the chef if they will cook my £30 steak, medium as she insisted it all comes medium/rare! Very odd and I was made to feel like the stupid one here but Steak came after being on the griddle for that extra minute and was bang on! Secondly, the same waitress spilt drinks all-over the back of my mother in law and my Dad even though we had just said, leave the tray where she had already set it down and we will pass the drinks down. That happens but an apology was not really offered in my opinion and they were given a couple of towels and by the time the waitress returned, my parents had dried themselves off best they could, dried the table off and proceeded to dry the floor up. Not even an apology at the point of payment nor any offer of recompense for the fact my parents had to spend 10 minutes in the toilets trying their best to "unsticky" themselves and there clothes from the spilt drinks! As I said, food was awesome, fish and chips, a tad bland but fishcakes where to die for and the side salad on most plates was as good as the main part of the meals.

This is a lovely cosy pub. Both meals were superb. I have tried numerous fishcakes but those served up at the Gamecock, are without doubt, excellent and the best I have tasted.

V disappointing. Poor service - initially told by the waitress that we were "not allowed to order a starter" as they were serving a big party. This was 7pm on a Saturday night. She then changed her mind after realising we had booked a table. (Not sure why that would "allow" us to order a starter!) Service overall was slow. Pub and toilet were filthy.

We booked for dinner and the staff could not have been more accommodating. One of our party is disabled and in a wheel chair and uses crutches and they were brilliant! We were offered a table which was easy to get to, offered an alternative means of getting in and informed in advance of the stairs to the loo. 11/10, thank you. The beer was also awesome, being one of the best points I’ve had in ages and the fish and chips, possibly the best I’ve ever had in a pub. The staff were all awesome !Superb! Thank you!

We booked for Sunday lunch and were told to arrive at 2pm promptly. We waited for 20 minutes for drinks order and then a further 10 mins for food order to be taken Good selection of food on the menu, Pate, Tempura King Prawns, Breaded Brie, Fishcakes for starters. Roast Beef, Pork & Gammon for mains and other dishes. Plenty to choose from. When the food arrived it was nicely presented and decent portions. I had scallops in a creamy lobster lemon and dill sauce which had been baked in the oven. Delicious. Others had the Brie & Tempura Prawns which looked lovely and rest of party really enjoyed their starters. Main courses arrived, we all had roast dinners and portions were really generous with great selection of vegetables - roast and mashed potatoes, diced parsnips which were lovely, mashed carrot/swede and very tasty creamed cabbage. All served with a large Yorkshire pudding and a small pot of gravy each. A very nice lunch. Would have given a 5 star rating however the service was haphazard. Staff were friendly but seemed to lack organisation. Some plates were cleared and then we sat for 20 mins with a table with dirty plates and someone came to ask if we wanted desserts before the plates were cleared. Then we waited quite a while for the bill and had to ask for it and then paid at the bar. Sometimes it felt like we had been forgotten about. At the front of the pub there is a bakery that sells a selection of homemade tarts and cakes. We bought a selection to take home. They were wonderful. Great food and would go back. More organised service would have given 5 stars

This is an exceptional pub. The food is of the highest quality, absolutely delicious. The tarts are particularly special (takeaway or eat in). It's incredibly good value as well, especially when compared to places in towns and cities which charge much more for lower quality food. Service is excellent, they're ever so friendly and welcoming. It's worth travelling miles to eat at this pub.

We went for lunch last Thursday afternoon. The staff were great, it’s dog friendly and the food was amazing. I had the 10oz sirloin and it was cooked perfectly. Garnish was amazing and exciting to look at. All the meals that came out of the kitchen to our table were really well presented and no complaints about anything whatsoever. I would definitely recommend and would definitely be a returning customer. Keep it up! 👌🏼

The team warm heartedly agreed to accept us and boy did they deliver when we needed it most. The burger was immense, one of the best I've had. The delicate pattisterie was fab too. 10 out of 10 for the food and the hospitality.

Great find, we called to book a table for Sunday lunch, They returned the call no problem with the booking confirmation and the staff are very friendly. The food is just brilliant and great value. We booked here before we arrived in Settle. Sunday lunch was outstanding. Barman and waitresses were an absolute delight with great knowledge of the menu.We had the privilege of eating on the French night also which was a true delight. Thanks for the memories.

Popular location. Difficult to book a table so book ahead in plenty of time. Closed Monday and Tuesdays so check web site. Friendly staff but pub is small so can be a bit of a wait say 10 minutes, which isn't long unless your just stood there. Shown to our table and orders taken when we were ready. Cozy bar and table setting. Clean with air of tradition and history. Food came quickly. Given the standards of food available today this was some of the best, made better by the fact it's very competitively priced, and very fair for the good quality and reasonable portion size. I'd rate this as the best value food I've had in five years. Worth a visit as you'll get as good food as anywhere but at a good price.

Limited dog friendly, only allowed in the conservatory area which is very small and hot. When we visited menu was extremely limited to pizza or lamb shank only. Very nice Village location.

A top notch eatery. After completing The Three Peaks, we found this pub as we drove back to our cottage and what a find it was! We received such a warm welcome (very much needed after a rainy day on the peaks) and even though food service had finished, the staff said we could still get fed; so kind! We were seated quickly and we all ordered the lamb shank (came with fresh bread and chips) and it was incredible! I nearly licked the plate too!! After the chef gave us a complimentary pastry, we visited the bakery and bought more tasty treats to take home. We felt so lucky to have found such a gem of a place and were so grateful for the welcome, food and service. All the other members of our party raved about the food and service too. Thank you for a lovely evening.

What a brilliant find this was. After completing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks we arrived around 6pm. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The rooms are smart and tidy and the food is sublime. We had an evening meal with drinks and breakfast the next morning all of which was just great. After that of course you have to get past the pastries. Massive fail again and walked out with a box full of delicious and superbly presented pastries. My wife wants to know when I'm going back for more. I have often left places feeling slightly underwhelmed but very rarely feeling undercharged like I did here. Very reasonable prices and superb value for money all round. I can't speak highly enough of the place and staff. Just brilliant. 10 out of 10 all day long.

Lovely pub with a nice beer garden at the back. Called in for a drink after a walk and sat outside. Good selection of drinks, the barman is really friendly. We'd already booked in advance for food on Saturday night so walked back later in the evening. We were not disappointed. Starters and mains were delicious and the service was friendly. Stopped for a meal, we were a little late. But they still served us. The pizza was lovely, and the bakery was not to be missed. The service was excellent. We are staying at a camp 🏕 so didn't stay the night.

It was a "French week" so an adapted menu with delicious dishes. The scallops had an excellent taste with a delicious sauce. The provincial chicken main course was also excellent. Delicious beers and friendly employees.

Not open on Mondays & Tuesday so never got for food . But did go for a couple of pints on Wednesday but in to early for food but will definitely go back , nice pub & friendly barman

Quuck review... Very good food and very helpful staff. We booked for a party of 14. Something on the menu for everyone but I enjoyed baked camenbert and a ragout d'agneau. lighter bites included multiple starters , filled baguettes, and burgers.
