What a shame the wonderful situation of the pub wasn’t matched by the quality of the food or service. We sent twice. The first time we were told there was an emergency menu because of supply problems. The food was tepid. The second time we were assured all was back to normal bit the menu still bore no relationship to pur expectations from the website and was average. Disappointing.

A restaurant with a beautiful view as well as very good food and service. Our starters were butternut squash soup and red mullet with lobster bisque, both of which were well flavoured and tasty. We both had the scallops with a creamy leek sauce, crispy kale and black pudding for the main course, this was well presented, fresh and once again very tasty. This was followed by a chocolate brownie with berries and ice cream and a cheeseboard with a lovely glass of port. Overall a very enjoyable meal and we will certainly return.

Booked into the Skye "suite". More of a small room than a suite. Musty smell when we got into the room so checked the bedding. Covered in dog hair and what looked like dandruff. Pillow cases had dog (hopefully) slabbers. Bottom sheet on the bed was I side out so suspect it was just flipped when the room was made up rather than a fresh sheet put on. Public hair in the shower tray as well. Owner gave us some fresh bedding and informed us that there had indeed been a dog in the room the evening before but was at pains to tell us it wasn't him that was responsible for making up the room. Went to the restaurant for dinner. Both ordered the steak pie, champ & roast root vegetables. Absolutely not what turned up. Pie looked like dog food, beige puff pastry, boiled new potatoes & green beans microwaved to an inch of their life. The "chef" is a disgrace to the industry. The restaurant is just another area of the hotel that needs a good clean. Dead flies on the floor, some indistinguishable insects inards smeared across the window and debris from food everywhere. We decided enough was enough and asked to check out with a refund. The place was really that bad we lasted 3 hours.. I really wish I had taken photos of the bedding and the food. It's abhorrent to describe your hotel and restaurant the way these people do and then to server you slop with a straight face. A real disappointment and a disgrace to the community.

Dreadful. Had anyone warned me, I would never have gone, it’s taken me days to get over the experience. From flies just everywhere to flying ants in the restaurant, questionable cutlery in the dining area. This sounds like an exaggeration, but honestly you couldn’t make it up.

The positives are that this place is in one of the most beautiful places in Scotland with great views but it is one of the most dissapointing we have ever been in. Unwelcoming staff, we had a look around before dinner and were scolded and told we couldn't do that, it was for guests only. The guy who was pulling pints behind the bar was getting sloshed with his mates outside and had a filthy tongue, every second word was foul. The decor inside is interesting black, white with lots of blingy gold. There are picnic tables around the back with awesome views but you dont know they are there unless you explore. Dinner was very mediocre, I wont even bore you with the detail, the girl serving us was very pleasant. If you are eating during the Lucy's across the road is fabulous and the wee shop does homemade meals and to die for deserts if you are camping or eating in your camper/motor home. This place won't put us off visiting Ardfern, it's beautiful but we will give The Galley of Lorne a miss in future!!! There are very many places in Scotland that are so much better.

Me and my husband visited the last weekend of October for drinks. Staff are nice however it's impossible to get a drink at times as the young girls are more concerned about playing around with each other than actually doing their jobs. Leaving the pub the whole smoking area out the front of the pub stunk of weed. Unfortunate as this quaint pub seems to have such potential

Liebes Galley of Lorne Team, was ist mit euch passiert?

We stumbled across this pub by accident as we were staying at the campsite further down the coast. Myself and friends are there twice and visited just for drinks a couple of times. It was fantastic! The food was superb even as a vegetarian we had plenty of choice and it was first class. The atmosphere in the place was wonderful, the bar staff very engaging and the beer was great to. They accommodated us and our three dogs without any problems and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. It actually provided a great focal point to meet up with friends after walking in the glorious sorounding country side.

Arriving for the first time with no idea what to expect, we’d (my wife and I) had a reservation for 19:45 on Thursday 11 May. On entering the bar we we were greeted by Robbie who pointed us through to the restaurant where he said one on his colleagues would show us to our table, on entering the dining room, as if by magic, there he was again or was it his twin as he claimed? Our server, Amanda, took us through the menu and was happy to field our many questions about the village and wider peninsula of Craignish. We shared a starter of Cullen Skink - a soup based on smoked haddock , it was delicious and turned out to have been made my Amanda. Our mains of sea bass and sirloin steak were cooked beautifully and tasted great. The finale of Cranachan, our shared portion was plenty, again new to us was truly yummy. The views over the loch were wonderful and after taking them in we went to pay. Sitting at the bar was a a very friendly fella who at first said he washed up, but was actually the chef. He recounted to us what we had ordered, how he’d cooked it, what was clear was the detail and care he put into the cooking. All in all it was a great meal great service, great cooking and lovely people, highly recommended.

The attitude of the lady chargehand can only be described like something out of a horror movie.Totally chilling. A very uncomfortable place, in every way... Food grossly overpriced (poor quality and flavour, sauces come in sachets etc) service slow even when not busy. Example, 4 serving staff on plus a chargehand and only 3 tables eating 🤨 We'd pre-booked a restaurant meal, and ended up sitting outside, all squeezing onto a picnic bench. this was owing to the extremely uncomfortable bar area which only had very tall bar stools and no tables large enough for our pre;booked small group. Supposedly there's a restaurant but it appears to be shut for service, ..probably because this place isn't busy for food anymore...i wonder why (!) Only other main custom appeared to be locals who were having a drink in the early evening...they appeared to have the sense not to order food and probably only drank there as it's the only pub around. I WILL NEVER go back due to the charge-lady's attitude which affected the whole place including her young serving staff who all.looked thoroughly unhappy... she is super hostile, cold and disdainful. Unless you're impervious to exceptionally poor service andover-priced mediocre food, dont bother!

My fish and chips was not the best and the belly of pork not well cooked. The red wine was so cold we asked for it to be warmed but were told that was not possible so we sat it on top of a radiator. I had to return to our room to get a jacket the dining room was so cold. The next evening we went to the bar to eat. It had 2 fireplaces but unfortunately neither was lit though there were stacks of logs. We headed over from where we were staying having checked that there would be food being served as it stated 2.30pm. We arrived parked up came in spent a good 10 minutes waiting at the bar while at least two members of staff walked passed neither acknowledged my existance or smiled or the usually be with you in a minute. Finally a young chap arrives I enquire if dogs are welcome while we have lunch this was at 1.50pm to be told they had stopped serving, so i checked the clock and my own watch incas eid miss read the time nope 1.50 so i pointed out that it states in the menu as well that I had been perusing while waiting that linch is served til 2.30pm? To which the young chap shrugs his shoulders, no apologies or customer service type skills and walked off. Weird behaviour I thought considering up until that point we had only enountered friendly welcoming people and pubs. I could may be understand if it was out of season and very quiet but there were many people eating with food being served as I waited. Either way no excuse for poor customer service some training may be for staff on approaching customers and such?

So pleased I did not look at the reviews before I booked - we may not have come and we would have missed a good place! True, the website for the Inn does make it sound rather more splendid and ‘chic’ than it actually is, but it manages to be a cosy, comfortable hotel and a lively busy pub at the same time. The food was very good - first night of two we ate in the rather large and quite empty dining room, obviously designed to accommodate local functions, such as weddings. The second night we asked to be seated in the lounge bar and we were served by the most delicious ghtful team of waiters/waitresses. Both nights the food was delicious - scallops & belly pork/venison casserole: second night two special burgers...chips fresh and delicious!Every box was ticked for our two night stay - great breakfasts, comfy beds, efficient bathroom: excellent staff! If the place had been as the website set out the bill would have been larger I’m sure....

We sailed into Ardfern and needed somewhere to relax and have dinner that evening. We booked a table in the bar area, as we had our dog with us and weren't too bothered about seeing the amazing view, given we'd just sailed past it.This is a 'proper' pub and those used to gastropubs will probably struggle to enjoy; it's dark inside, the decor is ancient and there aren't hundreds of beers on tap - but it's not trying to be that. It's properly authentic. The beer was good, a couple of Scottish breweries on the pump with a few of the normal largers on tap. The food was excellent, we had the venison (delicious, rich and warming), seafood linguine (impressive langoustines) and steak. The menu is largely your average pub food, but done very well.Half way through the meal, a group of friends arrived, had a beer, produced some instruments (violin, accordion, flutes, banjo) and started playing traditional music. They're locals who work in the harbour and surrounding areas who just play for fun. Listening to them play was absolutely amazing and probably rates as one of the best nights I've ever had in a pub. It absolutely suited the feel of the place.Just don't come expecting The Duck & Waffle on Loch Craignish.

We drove here from Glasgow for lunch having read their website and thought it would be lovely to see the harbour views that they mention whilst tucking into a delicious lunch. How wrong we were. We walked into a cold dingy bar and asked for the menu. We were given the bar menu which said on the back of it that the restaurant menu was also available if required. We asked the rather miserable barman if we could see it and were told that it wasn't available. Neither was a view of the harbour. We ordered from the bar menu choosing pie of the day. It arrived quickly but frankly it was only luke warm. If we hadn't been so hungry we would have sent it back. The intrusive loud moronic music didn't match with the demographic either. This was not a place to which I will return which is a pity as with an improvement in the art of good hospitality and a better quality of food it good be quite a honey pot.

A strange, almost schizoid establishment, this egregious Galley. On entering you are in an atmospheric public bar with dark wood panelling containing grizzled locals. At the back of this area is a rather anaemic lounge which leads into a very large dining room with a view of the loch, a space which attempts to impress. I preferred the atmosphere in the public bar, although when I asked for a tab I was told that because I had chosen to eat in the public I was not eligible for a food tab although I was granted one for my drinks. With its evocative name and location we were expecting great things when we called in for an evening meal. The astonishingly large dining room with its picture windows looks out over Loch Craignish, and sitting outside on the deck in the evening sun with a beer was very peaceful. What was less pleasant was the beer. Three underwhelming English beers on tap in the bar, with not a Scottish one in sight. Very disappointing given the wonderful local ales we’d enjoyed elsewhere in Argyll. As for the food, my wife had a splendid plate of well-cooked tuna and couscous while I settled for the ‘catch of the day', which was somewhat underwhelming. Pity. But the young staff were very efficient and happy to share some craic with.

This is our second visit to this hotel, when we arrived we had to go and look for staff to check us in even though we had rung the bell several times, the girl who came was pleasant and showed us to our room, we immediately noticed on entering the room it had a horrible smell in it; my husband said it was dampness but I wasn’t sure ; I opened the window immediately ; to be honest after a while you didn’t notice the smell. We went to the bar for a drink; the bar was welcoming with a nice open fire but there were 3 dogs running about the bar area , I almost fell over one that appeared from under a table; I have absolutely no problem with dogs but feel they should be sitting and out of the way of patrons walking with drinks not chasing each other about, The bar was cold unless you sat right I front of the open fire.

Website for this place looked great. Big disappointment though. Should have guessed by the empty car park. Got seated in the most dingy corner even though place was empty. Member of staff then brought menus and gave half the world share of excuses why hardly any of it was available. Went away, then came back to tell us what we could / should have, while sitting down next to us pouring his heart out. Very unusual. Couldn't get out quick enough. Never go back.

Such a great place, with the most stunning dining room and great food. Staff were all friendly and efficient and the service was very good. Hard to keep our eyes away from the stunning view but the dining g room is beautiful and spacious . The food was great, but the menu for vegetarians is limited.

Absolutely SUPERB, cannot fault anything. The food is delicious I had a starter of king prawns in cucumber sauce. We eat there on two consecutive nights and had a wonderful time on each occasion. Thank you to all the staff, you are amazingly good at what you are doing. Keep it up, we'll be back!

A Large dining room with good views. OK Service, Good food. Did not go in Pub, but Restaurant seemed more suitable to large groups rather than small, quiet dinners.

Just come back from 3 glorious night stay in tigh a vullin ardfern. Went to the galley of lorne the 3 days we were there and ate in it twice.big mistake the food was over priced. The fish and chips i had on the Saturday night was horrendous. You could tell the deep fat fryer oil had not been changed for months. The chips were disgusting (i am not a fussy eater but they were awful. ). The so called mushy peas were dry and hard. Looked if they had Been cooked a couple of weeks ago. I saw food being returned a good few times when we were there. I thought maybe it was a one off and decided we would give it another go. My wifes chicken in the chicken salad had been cooked in the same fryer as fish and chips and was dry and tasted of burnt oil. The girl behind the bar was polite with a welcoming smile . Dont waste your money on food here. For the money there charging you expect the food to be better.

Stayed for a week in a beautiful house in Ardfern and visited the pub for drinks on a few occasions. Each time there was a very loud and foul mouthed woman shouting and swearing even with children present. We saw a number of people arrive then change their minds. Such a shame as this could be a lovely pub.

Disappointed to report a below average evening meal for 4, walked out at the end of the night feeling flat as the conversation on the way back to the marina centered on the short comings of the meal, hard to understand how you can mess up a simple serving of fish and chips and a portion of bread and butter pudding. Back in port at the end of the week I think we will be eating onboard.

I really hate writing poor reviews. Particularly when I didn't complain at the time. But I suspect the chef doesn't know how to use anything other than a frying pan and a deep fat fryer. I'm not particularly fussy but there was nothing on the menu that really appealed to me on night one, other than fish and chips. It was ok, but really oily. Breakfast was passable, but again, very oily, I suspect the potato scones were deep fried. On the second night we didn't eat at all. I come from Glasgow, so I understand the idea of deep fried everything, but this was past a joke.

Family Celebration visit on a Saturday night. Restaurant mistook our booking time. Not a major problem. Service on arrival good. Starters most satisfactory, except Vegan in party served butter with roll. Main courses were a huge disappointment. On one, 1/3 of sirloin steak had to be discarded. Order messed up and normal fries provided instead of requested sweet potato fries. On others, mashed potato over-salted, vegetables not al-dente but under-cooked. Beef Shin Pie was steak pie in disguise, in a dish with pastry added after cooking. I could go on. We refused offer of sweets and coffee. The meal was over-priced for ‘bog standard’ pub grub. Only Bin 14 Rioja saved the day, but we put a cork back in that and drank it at home.

7 of us were staying at Craigdhu House and visited for a meal to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. We very nearly cancelled as we were warned against coming here due to poor reviews however we decided to make our own decision! Food was lovely in a really lovely setting and we were pleasantly surprised. Our only critisicm was the waitress was a bit curt about us wanting the bill when we hadn't asked for it. We understand its out of season on a sunday night but we would've happily moved to the bar next door

We booked 2 nights here and had dinner in the restaurant on the first night. The room was clean and well enough appointed, but could do wilt some minor attention. Dinner was another story. We got a main course which was cold and had to be reheated! Aargh! My curry reminded of the kind I got at school dinners, not very nice. Breakfast was good, with a good selection of traditional Scottish cooked dishes. The staff were lovely and very helpful. SAM

Booked this inn as Pet Friendly. We booked the Skye room and though it was nice and clean with a huge bathroom it does need some attention – eg. scuff marks in the bath. However this did not impact our stay in any way.

This should be a lovely relaxed bar but unfortunately due to staff playing loud music at lunchtime/early evening you can't even have a conversation. One family in the pub and myself and partner so don't know why music was blasting other than staff certainly seemed to like it. We were going to order but food ordering times are very regimental and from what we seen of the kitchen it didn't look very clean. The bar was pretty dirty too and you could see where debris had been swept into corners and along the edge of the bar. Pretty poor really for somewhere that could be nice with a little thought and effort

Are at this restaurant this evening and very disappointed. Mussels for starter very poor, they were warm and had obviously been pre cooked ,kept warm and spoon of sauce added after! Only about 12 in a starter portion. Mains better , but certainly poor value. Desserts awful. Cold sticky pudding with insipid sauce. Asked to speak to manager but he never appeared so had to go find him at the bar. Waitressing staff were doing a good job delivering poor good for a hopeless management/owner who really did not care. Staff very demotivated. This is a very poor example of customer service. Galley of Lorne you are letting Argyll down. I really wanted to tell you this constructively but as you could not bother to come and talk to us I am left with having to send you a message via TA. Your staff deserve better and so do your customers.

We last visited this Inn 3 years ago and remember having two excellent meals so it was not a hard decision to visit again although in hindsight we wish we had not bothered. Starters of PAN SEARED SCALLOPS with black pudding, blue cheese salad, watercress, crisp bacon and croutons was OK although the scallops had not been seared properly and at £9,25 for only 2 scallops was disappointing, my wife had the BABY PRAWN, CRAYFISH & SMOKED SALMON TIAN which tasted ok but was totally spoilt by being on a bed of stale lettuce that had seen better days and should have not been served, I suspect that as the TIAN was on top of the lettuce the chef hoped it would not be noticed. For the mains the steak was again served with salad leaves again had seen better days and spoilt the meal whilst I had the MOROCCAN LAMB TAGINE with jumbo cous cous which whilst the meat and sauce was tasty I did not find any dried apricots and it was a really funny mix serving it with the cous cous which had an interesting texture and appearance one that I would not wish to try again. For dessert the Lemon Posset was very enjoyable but give the Fresh fruit pavlova a miss it was a poor excuse for a pudding. Would I recommend to be honest not sure would maybe give them another chance.
