The Galley Fish and Chips in Scarborough

Visited The Gallery for some lovely fish and chips at lunchtime. The food was reasonably priced, and the chips were good, but the fish was a let-down as it was overcooked.

Very disappointed. Plenty of chips which were ok, covered with peas which were low quality. The fish had a small amount of actual fish but an excessive thickness of batter which was overcooked....I suspect cooked twice. Not value or quality for money. The 3 young lads serving were ok, but hardly welcoming. Shan't be going again.😞😞

They work in slow motion there were 3 people in front of me and it took 45mins till we got our food

Around £9.50 for fish and chips, some of chips were burnt and the batter was soggy in the middle. Overall was a little greasy. Fish was lovely and meaty, and tasted great. Would recommend.

Probably the worst fish and chips, and sausages on the East Coast. Overcooked fish, over priced, 3 jumbo sausages were £9 absolutely appalling!

Disappointed so much, expected more. Bought two fish and chips. Both fishes still had fish scales, too oily and overpriced drinks.

Good portion, reasonable price of £9.50 for haddock and chips, but waayyyy to oily. I don't know if they were having a bad day, or if their oil was not up to temperature, but way too oily... Better skipped.

Great food but slight wait for the order

What I experienced this afternoon was nothing short of a disgrace. The woman I was faced with when ordering was ill-mannered and to be quite frank, scary! I was made to feel bad for ordering as it seemed like more of a chore than a service. The young gentleman presented my undercooked chips also followed suit with rude nature. He asked if I would like salt and vinegar, the tray was launched over the counter to me and I was told to ‘Do you yourself’. My chips were accompanied by what I thought was curry sauce. Sure didn’t taste like it!! I am honestly not sure how they are still in business! Unkept, grimy and abhorrent.

Where do I start, for a fish and chip shop looking over the sea I anticipated something better. I ordered a fish and chips with a curry sauce, the staff member that served me was arrogant practically growling at me as I was thinking about my order, and when I proceeded to pay I felt they were giving me a demand. The staff that cooked my fish were dirty, I saw them scratching their hair while my fish was being fired, the bag of chips had been sat out for what looked like quite some time under a leaky sink on the floor ironically next to there food hygiene rating! After waiting for a very long time my lunch was thrown at me, I asked if I could have some salt and the rude man who had been scratching his scalp told me to do it yourself as he pointed towards the salt. When it came to eating my lunch the curry sauce I found crispy lumps inside, this was very unpleasant.

Nice enough fish and chips. Good portion size and reasonable priced. I would use them again.

We were on holiday in Yorkshire and came across this fish and chip shop. It is perfectly located right by the beach so you can enjoy your food while enjoying the view. There is no specific parking however there is parking on the roadside with disabled spaces also. The food was hot as it was freshly cooked, the fish was delicious with just the right amount of batter. There is seating nearby and toilets, including accessible toilet, over the road. There is also a Changing Places accessible toilet a short walk along the beach front. We enjoyed the food so much, we came back for our last holiday meal before leaving for home!

The best fish chips and curry I've ever had

Good chips and the fish was nice. The batter is thick which makes it crunchy rather than crispy. The fish was cooked to order which is great. It was a decent portion for the price. The menu has all the usual things, sausage, chicken nuggets, mushy peas etc. There's also a selection of chilled drinks. The location is great but there's not enough seating.

Superb Fish and chips. Great staff. Had fish and chips with curry sauce and peas, quick service, cooked fresh and certainly on par with Magpie Whitby and Trenchers if not better, certainly better value. Excellent, thank you.

These really are the best fish and chips I've ever had. And the curry sauce is definitely the best I've ever had. Polite friendly service and wonderful food...what's not to love? Would give it more stars if I could
