A little bit nondescript coffee place within the Gallery in Lemon Street Market, but good coffee, friendly staff and absolutely yummy-looking food (unfortunately we weren't eating there). The stars are for the coffee and for the appearance of the food - if it is as good as it looks, I would give in 5 stars.

We visit here occasionally on a trip to Truro as they have THE best tea cakes I've ever had! It's also reasonably priced. Nice tea pots too and decaff tea which is appreciated, and we're always given an extra pot of hot water without asking. They also made a lovely babyccino for my toddler. Not always a lot of space between tables due to the location, which is tricky with a pushchair, but there is a lift in the corner of the building so at least those with a pushchair or wheelchair can access the cafe. The high chairs aren't the best, nearly always need a bit of a clean, and fiddly complex straps that take an age to sort out let alone fit on a child. Small price to pay for a great tea cake in a lovely setting :-)

My mother and I called in here for drinks as we heard it was dog friendly and had our 3 dogs. We had no problem finding a seat. However we ordered our drinks and nearly half an hour passed but no drinks. My mum asked at the counter. The girl apologised and reassured us she would do it straight away. Almost 10 minutes passed before another girl served our drinks. She didn't apologise for the wait but put the drinks down and rather abruptly walked away. If we had been warned of a wait at our time of ordering it would have been fine but together with the long wait plus rudeness from the server mean we will not be visiting this cafe again. There are plenty of others in Truro where we are served quickly and courteously.

Over the years we have had coffee and cake on numerous at the Gallery. Today we placed our order and took a seat. The woman behind us in the queue followed suit afterwards. She was well known to the staff and guess what her tea and toast was served straight away. We waited and eventually ours arrived. We asked for a second plate which we had to remind the waitress of ... " I will get it after I have cleared these tables ..." I eventually went to the counter and got it myself. A basic principle of service should be to serve in the sequence the order was taken irrespective of whoever they are . Really not impressed.

My husband and I visit this cafe weekly. Sometimes it is for a quick coffee together, sometimes it is a good down-time for us for a meal, a read of the papers, a chat and relaxation. The staff are all young, enthusiastic, helpful and friendly. The chef(ess) is lovely and very obliging. The surroundings are airy, spacious and modern. It can get noisy when totally full, but on the whole this is not the case. My one criticism could be that the piano is no longer in use, but it may well b that it needs to be overhauled. As a party of three we ordered 2 cheese and ham toasties, and a bacon and brie toastie (no cranberry, as per the menu). A different server brought out 2 bacon, brie and cranberry sandwiches (not toasted). We explained our order, and we were brought out a cheese and ham toastie. We explained the rest of our order. 5-10 minutes later, two more toasties were brought out - however, it turns out they had just toasted the original sandwiches, and still didn't get our order right! We were offered a drink (no mention of of it would be free or not) but by this point we just wanted to get out, after all of the time spent waiting for a correct which never came. The original toastie was cold by the time the rest of the food came outs and you could tell that the bacon had not been cooked there and then - it was rock hard and fat had congealed on it. Will not be coming back!

Decided to go up to the Gallery Cafe, after checking for any signs that dogs were not allowed. Came in to grab a late lunch with my children. Paid £27 for 3 baked potatoes and 3 drinks. When my baked potato arrived, having ordered one with Cornish Blue and mushrooms, I was extremely disappointed to see 6 slices of mushroom and what I presume was once a meagre slice of blue cheese, grilled beyond all taste and recognition. There was so little topping that to have paid £7 it felt like an absolute joke. I've eaten here many many times, and that was my last.

Arriving with my family at 9:15am, and having used this cafe several times before. Today's experience was an unmitigated disaster. Upon ordering we were advised that there would be a 20 minute wait whilst the food was being prepped. Ok, I thought although the place was empty and the establishment should already have been fully up and running for business. After ordering, our tea was brought which at best was warm. Upon querying the schoolgirl waitress she said "well she filled it straight from the hot water outlet" Perhaps a little schooling in warming the pot beforehand may have been advisable. Especially with such a thick ironware teapot. From here things continued to get worse. The table had ordered eggs florentine and poached eggs, for my mother, wife and son. All of the poached eggs were rock hard! When I asked the schoolgirl waitress about this the response I got was "Well, I don't know IO never eat poached eggs". My God, if you don't know how an egg should be poached or how to warm a teapot then what on earth are you doing working in a cafe. The final straw came when they brought over my breakfast. The sausages wqere completely undercooked, and insipid looking as if they had been run under a hot tap rather than see any form of frying pan. I sent them back to be cooked. The waitress then returned my plate without the sausages saying that she didn't want the res of my food to go cold. I had to explain to her that I wanted an entire plate of food at the same time, and perhaps it might be advisable to put it back in the warmer plate if they had. There was no offer of any compensation and just a "sorry". I suggest to everyone that they eat downstairs where the food and service is of a far higher standard and service. I hope that this helps people to come to a thought out decision to start their day in a positive and pleasant frame of mind. Don't waste your time or money on this debacle.
