Bucket of Blood Pub in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

I like the pub, but I don't like paying £5 for a beer, especially so when I paid £1.75 on the same night in The Tremeneere in Penzance.

Mind your head if you're over 5"10. Lovely little pub, if a little cramped.

2 Sunday roast, 2 drinks just short of £50. Very expensive. Not a lot of meat, frozen veg and the waitress seam to have an aversion to smiling

First time in this great pub. Lovely mixture of old and new, tastefully done. Roast was great and the staff were just lovely. Great little trip out from Truro

Nice roast, plenty of veg and tasty cauliflower cheese though not enough meat & gravy. Asked for a kids roast as I don't eat a lot & was told I couldn't order a kids because I was over 12 years old. We had booked a table for a family members birthday so I didn't want to not eat whilst everyone else did so ordered adults roast. Its so wasteful as half would have been put in the bin.

Only stopped in for a quick drink after a walk but we were made very welcome such a lovely walk we will be going back for something to eat

Best pub in Hayle and St Ives too! Great fish pie and the staff are always very friendly. A must visit if you are in the area, but be careful to mind your head on the way in. Excellent food and lovely decor, often have a fire on too - often helpful to book!

Nice old pub,but don't expect the meals on the online menu. Half the meals not available and the prices increased. Half a dozen burgers, a couple of veggie meals and not a lot else, although what we had was reasonable.

Having discovered The Bucket of Blood on our first day for lunch, we decided to book for dinner on Valentine’s Day . We had also mentioned that it was my birthday . On the evening the service was great . They had even got me a birthday card. The pub has a small menu but is reasonably priced and the food is lovely . The staff are very friendly , we felt like we had been going there for years. Our little dog Bailey was also made a fuss of . We will definitely be back.

Well, what can I say, a lovely warm welcome into a charming old public house, service and food was absolutely fantastic and at a reasonable price, nothing was too much for the staff, throughly enjoyed our roast dinner and will definitely come back 5 🌟.

We have visited this pub many times over the years and most recently over Christmas time 2024, we must say what a little gem of a place the staff are really friendly and helpful Bret in particular was very attentive and hard working. Nice atmosphere over Christmas. Hope to visit again very soon

Had a fantastic veggie roast dinner here just before Christmas. The staff are great, exceptionally helpful and it's dog friendly

We went in on Sunday for a roast and it was exceptionally good. Most of us are vegan/vegetarian and they did a great job catering for us. The pub was very busy with some quite annoying, needy customers, the staff stayed polite and friendly throughout. I thoroughly recommend and we'll be back there again.

Was really excited to visit this place, but found it all rather underwhelming sadly. Had a nice burger 🍔, but at £17.50 overpriced. Ale was OK and not much of an atmosphere. The ceilings are also very low so if your tall (6ftand over) you will struggle. Considering the age and history of the place, it I found it lacking character or ambience personally. Service and staff were excellent however.

Excellent roast beef served with proper roast potatoes, cauliflower and broccoli cheese, green beans, red cabbage, swede and carrot mash, stuffing, pigs in blankets and the biggest Yorkshire pudding ever. All served hot and a plateful of delicious food. No room for pudding! Did I mention the friendly and efficient service and there are games to play too with free real music. Highly recommended!

Extremely friendly, welcoming pub. Menu is fairly basic but food is well cooked and portions are ample. Good selection of beers on tap including zero alcohol.

Wanted a meal in a cosy country pub with a chilled feel, and found it here. Really friendly staff, so courteous and welcoming. Partner said it's the best fish pie he's ever had, and my bangers and mash were banging! Beautiful dessert too. Will definitely visit again when we are lucky enough to be back in this beautiful county.

Now this is how a pub should be run! My husband and I booked a table for an evening meal after reading TripAdvisor reviews and we were not disappointed. The welcome was warm, the staff beyond helpful and polite and the food was absolutely delicious. The portion sizes were very generous and represented excellent value for money. The service was excellent and attentive without being intrusive. The pub itself is delightful, full of character and obviously a local favourite and we could see why. Would absolutely go here again and recommend it to visitors like us. A great dog friendly pub!

We had a most enjoyable maiden visit to this pub. The landlord, Brett, was extremely welcoming and hospitable. The menu was fairly basic but the food was good quality and the portions were ample. There is a good range of beers including 0% alcohol beer on draft.

We went for Sunday lunch, meats from the smoker, with allllll the sides, it was DELICIOUS, and very generous portions! A really refreshing change from the traditional meat and 2 veg approach to Sunday lunch :) All the staff are amazing and the pub is lovely and clean, really cosy, retaining original features and decked out with local art and loads of plants. And there was even live music! 10 out 10... Best pub in Hayle.

While fish not named so £17 was expensive for a fish and chips Lovely atmosphere but we were very disappointed with a £90 food bill no starter no puds and 2kids had cheesy chips

First visit on wed 16 Oct. Ribeye steak was superb, staff attentive and courteous. It was an open mic night , very enjoyable. Def recommend and look forward to another visit when in the area.

Been meaning to visit the Bucket Of Blood for years & wasn't disappointed. The atmosphere was great, the staff were friendly & the food..... well my medium rare ribeye steak was cooked to perfection. If you do one thing while in Cornwall & like good food, visit this pub.

We didn't stop for food but it did look very nice. I didn't hear anyone say anything other than good things. Great local ales and ciders. The staff are brilliant, very welcoming and helpful. Next time I'm in that neck of the woods, I'll be back.

We stopped here for a drink. There was plenty of parking. The service at the bar was very friendly and the seating very comfortable. Everywhere was spotlessly clean including the toilets. What a lovely traditional old pub with bags of character. We would recommend.

Tried all day to book a table but no one would would answer the phone, left a voicemail but no one got back to us. Tried calling in but hadn't got a table and surly barmaid told us "you need to book". Food may be good as was busy but we'll never know.

Typical English pub in an absolutely feel-good atmosphere with good music and the best food. The boss must be one of the nicest people on the planet, as sweet and friendly as he takes care of his guests!

You can usually tell how good a place will be when you are welcomed with a smile and made to feel welcome! Whilst the menu was not large the thought that had gone into it was good and the choice was good. The quality of the food was excellent. Service was pleasant and well timed. Will be returning!

Visited 22/08 family of four. Service atmosphere and food were all excellent. I ordered the bucket burger which was out of this world. Probably the best burger I've eaten to date. Had to make this known to the barman and was more than happy to leave a tip.

My recollection of this place is not good. Many years back we caravan-ed in the area. We called in for food.My son is type 1 diabetic and probably around 6 years old at the time. As some will know carbs are important in managing blood sugars in diabetics. At that point of the holiday he was fed up looking at chips so I tried to negotiate having the chips changed to mash potato on his kids meal. A simple task you would think. The conversation went something like this. Excuse me would it be possible to change the chips on the kids meal to mash potato.. I explained he was fed up with chips. The answer I was given was.. well it's on the blackboard isn't it.. I replied yes I can see mash potato on the blackboard but it's not offered on the kids menu..the answer I received was..well it wouldn't be on the board if it wasn't available.. an awkward silence ensued, after which I asked my wife to gather both kids and we left. The guy was rude and obnoxious and had no earn dealing with the public. Probably the worst experience I had throughout my years of travelling through the UK. I should mention that this was a number of years back and hopefully that moron has been sacked since that time. However I wouldn't darken their door again.

We reserved a table for 5pm on a Friday night in August. We had lovely food it was well presented and filled us both up for the evening. We had the Bucket of Blood burger and the Hunters Chicken, both where delicious and would recommend eating their. A good atmosphere and very welcoming.

What a cosy little pub! We had an excellent meal here, halloumi burger, steak & hunters chicken were the best we’d ever had. The staff were also really welcoming, friendly & attentive. Dogs welcome too. So glad we stopped by.

One of my favourite pubs down here

My fourteen year old son had a chicken burger which he highly recommended, It was a proper bit of chicken and not any minced up preformed frozen rubbish. The hunters chicken was not dry or over done and had a lovely BBQ sauce. I had the fish pie which was delicious even though I am not a big salmon fan, Puddings are very good too. The staff were very attentive and I would definitely return to Bucket of Blood if in the area again.

Went past here on my way to a holiday park up the road the other day, and decided to come in tonight with my partner for a few drinks and all I can say is that it’s a great place, lovely staff and good atmosphere. Didn’t try any of the food but the food that everyone around us was eating looked fantastic. If you’re in/around Hayle this place should be on your list of places to go.

Stumbled across this beautiful , quirky, old pub. Wonderful warm ambience and a friendly welcome. Loved the decor. Dog friendly too! Served quickly and efficiently, with some wonderful named ales and ciders on offer. We loved it so much, that we decided to order food. Very reasonable priced and plenty on the plate for a hungry appetite.... Delicious all round. We all throughly enjoyed our food, the friendly service and overall feel of this place. Definitely recommend!

Cute pub with a lovely atmosphere. We stubble across it on a walk, had a drink, and loved the fact it was busy serving food, we booked. I had fish pie & my husband had hunters chicken, both were delicious.

Great food, great atmosphere, great service. Fish and chips and a homemade fish pie were superb, followed by sticky toffee pudding and an ice cream. The apple crumble is legend but they had ran out! 😪😪

This is a great pub. Small and very enjoyable. It was not open on Monday or Tuesday while we were there. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Thought we'd give this place a try as they advertise as dog friendly. Was glad we did as staff were so welcoming and helpful and loved petting our fur baby. Food was delicious and service was very quick. Would recommend thoroughly.

The food was delicious and the service we have received from the staff was amazing. It’s a nice and cozy place. I’d recommend it. I had hunters chicken and it was on point with a good portion size. My sister had one of the burgers and she it was one of the juiciest burgers that she’d eaten in a long time.

Good pub but if you want food, reserve a table. Didn't get anything to eat because of this so can't comment.

Walking up to the pub and going in we expected big things... and we weren't disappointed.. we went in looking for food upon saying they were fully booked inside(always a good sign especially on a Wednesday night) they said we could eat outside and accommodated us.. definitely worth booking in advanced.. the burger didn't disappoint was juicy, fresh and tasty the side salad was beautifully presented..we'll definitely be back next time we're in the area

Great pub, with a lot of history. We only had a drink here. Staff were very polite and friendly. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Really good home cooked food, decent portions and a small but great choice of St. Austell beers on draught. Hicks was a lovely new surprise! Very friendly service too. Will be back hopefully someday!
