First visit for a long while and was looking forward to it but when the cake is so obviously stale it should be disposed of. No complaints with the coffee but at the risk of repeating myself, the coffee and walnut cake was disgraceful.

We came across the Bookbarn in 2016, and first experienced the divine cakes from The Full Stop Cafe. Since then we’ve been regulars; it’s a great place to meet friends, catch up with the family, or grab a hot drink after a long dog walk in the winter (that spot on the sofa by the log burner is MINE when it snows!!) The staff are wonderfully friendly, the menu is varied to offer something for everyone (in fact, some of my friends didn’t even realise it’s a vegetarian menu!). If it’s on the menu, you’ll not be disappointed with the Chilli Non-Carne. My toddler and his friends also love to eat there, and it’s great that he can select his own books from just 50p. In addition, they also run some great cake decorating classes which are well run and really informative. Making sugar flowers was a brilliant class!

Probably my favourite cafe in the whole of Bath and surrounding countryside. Excellent vegetarian/food and great ambience. The service is always friendly and everything is reasonably priced. And there’s books to read too. What’s not to love?

Went with the kids after school pick up and enjoyed a good strong coffee and some apple muffin cupcakes, they were gluten free I think and delicious. We love it here as I can sit and relax with a book and cuppa while the children sift through the shelves in their own area.

All jolly nice and vegan and cosy, so fine if you have plenty of time. Not really very efficient, though. Having eaten and drunk the rest of my order and sat about for a while, I had to ask about the ETA of my sausage roll. Doesn't seem under-staffed. So perhaps the problem is organisation. Nice lamps, though.

At the Book Barn there is along with thousands of books, a wonderful cafe. It is vegetarian and situated around a log fire, plenty of seating choices from sofas, pews etc. Around the seating area one has only to stretch the arm slightly to come into contact with a book. Mainly cook books in the eating area but there are also vintage ones. As one sits to have refreshments you have time to look at and share your book finds. Lovely food and relaxing atmosphere. Sheer Bliss

We passed this place on the way to Bath and called in for lunch. So glad we did - they have an excellent vegetarian menu with freshly cooked meals made from locally sourced products, the staff are so cheerful and welcoming and the atmosphere is great. The veggie breakfast was divine. You can relax in comfy sofas or or sit at tables and browse the books. It's lovely to be able to eat good food in such a friendly place.

I’m a huge lover of Book Barn so always pop into the cafe to get a coffee. I don’t do dairy and they always offer an amazing soy mocha and on this trip I discovered they have just got in vegan ice cream!!! Perfect for a hot day like today! Lovely staff, friendly and chilled atmosphere:)

When visiting the Book Barn at Hallatrow we went into the café area for a coffee. It was excellent and was served by one of the lovely ladies working there. I noticed there is a comprehensive menu for breakfast and all day meals as well as snacks, so we will definitely return. Very clean and tidy, friendly and welcoming staff.

Even with all the snow the cafe was still open with a roaring fire. It was our first visit with our dog though we've been to the book barn before. Food was gorgeous, prices really reasonable and they were so lovely to our slightly excitable dog giving him cuddles and bringing him water. Such a lovely chilled atmosphere, will definitely be back!

En route to Wells we called in out of curiosity for books but found a great cafe as well. Woodburning stove, friendly people, plenty of space, unhurried-but-timely kind of service and good simple food at very reasonable prices. Parking is easy. You wouldn't necessarily think of stopping there to eat or for a break but please do.

Four of us went for a quick snack, including one vegetarian. What a great place, really calm and relaxing with a really real atmosphere. The food was outstanding, really lovely and plentiful. The service was superb, nothing too much trouble for the staff. The sort of place that you want to tell everyone about, but you'd also like to keep it all to yourself. Nothing mass produced here, everything seems to have a story - fitting really when you consider where it is.

Firstly I'm not a veggie. I do however enjoy nice food. The comfortable surroundings make you feel as though your sat in your own living room. The selection was as good as any cafe I've ever been in. I had a beautiful sandwich, which at first had appeared expensive, until it arrived at the table with a well prepared salad. Having never had mozzarella in a sandwich I was so happy to have made that choice and will definitely be trying it at home instead of the tried and tested other fillings.

So you go to Bookbarn (a million second hand books etc.) and you want a snack whilst you review your purchases. This ticks the box. Yes it is slow but so are most second hand book purchasers. Yes, they are not good at engaging with customers. Yes, they do not often seem to be getting on with the orders. But, they are a young team producing first class vegetarian sandwiches, soups and snacks at good value. Chill out and buy another book, there are plenty there.

Just, wow! After a mess up with our drinks order which was kind of forgivable and the staff unknowledgeable and seemingly uninterested, we had to wait over half an hour for our egg sandwich and cheese on toast. The table next to us were told they had to wait over an hour for theirs. Bear in mind the menu is basically sandwiches and there was 4 members of staff in the kitchen and about 4 customers waiting for their food, with absolutely no explanation of why it was taking so long, apart from "we've had a lot of orders in", from where exactly?? Will not be coming here again, would be understandable if it was busy or the menu was complicated, but neither are true!

A second hand book barn is a pleasure to browse in, but all that reading and looking gets me thirsty. So I was delighted to find a friendly cafe inside. I expected to be able to enjoy their lovely coffee, but thought it unlikely that they could cater for coeliac diet. I was so wrong! The young lady serving was fully aware of cross contamination issues, and I had a good choice, including cakes, which I didn't have room for (see photos!). For anyone shuddering at my choice, there were other options - my companion had delicious garlic mushrooms on toast. What a great place to go and enjoy a gluten free read!

This is a veggie restaurant and we are not vegetarians. But there were plenty of appetising lunchtime snacks. We both opted for the mushrooms on toast. Delicious and brimming with flavour. The espresso machine produced good cappuccino and latte. Well worth popping in. Oh and the cakesmust be tried next time!

We found this café when we were visiting the Bookbarn and what a surprise! It serves wonderful food - the cakes are definitely to die for - in a great atmosphere. As a group we had cheese on toast, the creamy mushrooms on bread and one of their amazing sandwiches. All made with freshly baked bread and each a meal in itself. Fantastic value. The only reason I have not given it five stars is that the service (although very friendly) is pretty glacial. There are always plenty of books to read while you are waiting though....

My son and I loved this cafe. It's part of the bookbarn and as such has a lovely welcoming atmosphere. The menu is great and everything seems to be sourced locally or homemade. We opted for beans on toast and poached eggs on toast, both were divine, with the bread being absolutely delicious. The team are so friendly and attentive and the food is excellent value for money. My son loved the cafe and the children's play area in the bookbarn. Highly recommended to all.

The café is part of the International Bookbarn located close to Hallatrow south of Bristol. As we were visiting the Bookbarn around lunchtime we decided to try the Full Stop Café. We ordered the broccoli and stilton soup and were offered the choice of white or wholemeal bread. The soup and wholemeal bread were delicious and the portions generous. With our soft drinks, the bill was under £10.00 which we considered very good value. The menu was short but imaginative and we shall certainly use the Full Stop Café on our next visit to the Bookbarn.

This café is situated in the International Bookbarn near Hallatrow just off the A37 south of Bristol. Aftter a browse of the thousands of books (all at £1), it provides an excellent place to relax over a coffee and some home made food. The food is all home made and prepared on the premises. The specialities are the home made soups (I had the red root soup), the sandwich of the day and the cakes. The coffee is good too and the price of food and drink is very reasonable. The seating comprises tables and chairs plus some comfortable sofas. An added bonus is the good service from the friendly welcoming staff. In fact its worth a visit, even if you do not want to browse through books. highly recommended

I visit Picnic Coffee every week for the delicious coffee and lemon drizzle cake. However, the staff just bring my order to the table and walk away without a word or a glance at me. Where are the staff other reviewers praise so highly?
