Edit Oct 2024: Can't order through their site anymore (only through just eat now) and the new menu is rubbish compared to the older one :/ £23 for a large Pizza and a large Kebab. Good value and I like that everything for my Kebab was packed separately. Everything was good, will defo order again.

I always received a great welcome from the wonderful staff here and it was always a great atmosphere. I am greatly disappointed with changes they have made since the refurbishment. I had a full pizza supper and they gave me sauce in a container and did not put sauce on themselves and the chips were not great and all the cheese came off pizza when I separated them. I doubt I will be back it was better before.

Loaded fries and pizza were amazing! Fast, friendly service. Will be back soon.

So went tonight for the grand re opening as it has changed hands. First appearance. Shop looks amazing ! Nice and modern but not one of those in your face LED tacky shops. Classy but modern. Staff are were well presented and very humble with a great welcome ( even got a cupcake ) Food this is what you are really reading for. The food is class. So I got the fish and Chips decent fish and chips nice and fresh the wife gor a sausage supper yet again nice and wasn't dripping in oil and the wee man got chips and cheese couldn't get that one wrong so spot on with your traditional stuff now here's the twist .... katsui curry with chips and chicken ... from a chippy ... this had to be tried and my God I didn't regret it. Over a very very happy customer who will certainly be back again. Keep up the work guys and your onto an empire.

Heads up, iyou're getting food here, make sure to keep an eye on it as it's being prepared. I went to get lunch here and as I was waiting I noticed the chef cough into his bare hand and immediately used the same hand to assemble burgers and make pizzas. It was a hard phlegmy cough, not just a quick or light cough, as if that necessarily matters. When I brought this to the attention of the others, one of which I believe was the owner, they acted as if I had inconvenienced them somehow and said that I should have said sooner if there was a problem, as though it was my job to monitor their employees. I was trying to be discreet and wait for the customers inside to leave rather than make a scene but they immediately drew attention to it of everyone in the shop and asked what I wanted them to do about it. They offered to make another one and bring it to me after but I declined and asked if a refund was possible as I'd spent my lunch break waiting for a meal I didn't feel comfortable eating and I wouldn't have had time to eat it (even if I was willing to trust them to make it again without spit). They reluctantly agreed but I could feel everyone staring daggers at me. I don't feel as though I was being rude or unreasonable at any point, any other shop would have taken the matter seriously and offered compensation without the awkward spotlight or taking offense. As someone who has many years of experience in food and service, I felt that the whole encounter was unprofessional. Restaurants should be expected to maintain proper hygiene and food safety standards at all times. They may have just been having a bad day and hating work, or they just didn't expect someone to complain about the way they normally do things. I'm sure the staff there are great people, as I've heard a lot of good things about them from others, so it's definitely nothing personal but this interaction definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. Unfortunately being that this was my first experience with them, I don't think I'll be visiting them again.

ordered steak pie and chips and a bag of chips, steak pie pastry was hard and stale, almost like it was cooked yesterday, chips weren't any better, only ate the inside of pie which wasn't up to much either, worst food i have ever had from there, arrived pretty quickly after i ordered it. not worth the money i paid for it wasn't all that hot either

This chippy is local to me and my work. I got a delivery from them to my work on Christmas eve. 26 patients, so a nice big order. They threw in free juice etc. Patients enjoyed it. We did the same again tonight (hogmany) and yet again another cracking meal. Patients were raving about it. They gave us a great deal on the big order. Meal arrived on time still very hot. We will be using them more often now. As our patients often like a takeaway. Thanks for a great service and to the lovely staff who took the order and the delivery driver who was also a lovely pleasant guy. Currently what I consider to be the best fish and chips available in Edinburgh.

Best hamburgers ever ! Always really enjoy whatever I get from here also pepperoni party pizzas are out of this world.

I find the fish has fish bones in them. The chips are very chewy is well.

I have got my family to eat this. They love it

I have not been here for a while and decided to treat myself with a fish supper ! Well should not have bothered spending my money in here the fish was dry and rubbery my man's kebab was supposed to be large no way was it a large a waste of money ! DO NOT WASTE YOURE MONEY IN THIS PLACE ! Do you known some people only can only afford a treat now and again and to pay for fish is not cheap so it's a treat I was so disappointed. I have worked and cooked in a chippy before and would be ashamed to serve what I got tonight !!! Rant over.

Food delicious, and decent prices. Friendly service. Warned me my order would be 10 minutes because they were cooking it fresh. Kept apologising needlessly because I was more than happy. Was well worth the wait. Plenty of others got served in the meantime, not slow, just needed extra time because I ordered something not regularly ordered.

Just ordered a stuffed crust pizza and I’m really disappointed. Both the chips and the pizza were almost freezing and the stuffed crust was cheddar cheese, not mozzarella. The cheese on the pizza was obviously also a blend as it was really greasy The kids refused to eat a second slice so it was a total waste of cash. Definitely wouldn’t order another pizza from here

I find the food very good and I would like to eat that next time.

27 pound for 2 items 10’ pizza and donner meat and chips . 4.50 for delivery . Won’t be back

I wasn’t expect it to come early and I find the fish very fresh and loving the chips,

I find the fish half cooked and the garlic pizza very good.

Excellent only problem was I wanted my sauce separately in a tub not over my kebab meat.

I did love the fish and chips, but the fish are little more burn and over cooked dry. The fish two ends are not good to eat, as the fish inside looks really dry.

I would have loved the fishes if it didn’t have any bones inside them and I would love to have crispy chips than light chips.

Food arrived late 2 meals missing and cold

I don't write reviews often, but this place was great! Well cooked, free delivery, on time, and the portions were generous (seriously, I don't think there was an inch of free space in the boxes).

Hands down this is the best Chippy in Edinburgh The chips are amazing Love the hamburgers and the pepperoni party pizza Yum I would never even contemplate going to another chip shop

£13.50 for a small fish supper, and Galaxy....fish had brick hard batter, chips were greasy and some were actually raw in places, took nearly an hour for delivery, and Galaxy bar was melted, as delivery driver, was stupid enough to put it in with the supper🙄 It's the last time I use that chippy..if I could do zero stars I would, disgusting 🤮

I do find the fish perfectly cooked, but I need to find single fish and chips. As it will be nice to get a single supper

Was alright, had to be reheated. We usually get our order on time or early but we got it late this time - therefore it was cold

I love the quality of the fish and the ice cream was the best dessert ever. The ice cream was perfect.

Chips were horrible. Like they’d been sat out all day or were overcooked.

I got a Dinner mini calzone the first time I got it I was well impressed the second one came and had a strange lump of melted cheese on the top I cut into it and realised the strange lump was to cover up the fact it had 10th DEGREE BURNS RIGHT THROUGH TO THE MEAT IT WAS LIKE EATING CHICKEN FEED

Food was hard and dry. Chips were re fried from earlier. Worst fish and chips I've ever eaten.

Food was 30 mins late which doesn’t bother me as such however when the food arrives as though it’s been waiting for that length of time and needs reheating on arrival it’s quite disappointing

I had a rump steak supper from here tonight and tbh it's the worst I have ever had, chips where soggy and so greasy like they where yesterday's chips recooked The rump steak batter was so greasy and the meat was so dry. I could not eat it all and my stomach has not been right since after having half of it as was hungry seriously somthing was definitely not right with that food tonight

Delivery time good, but food was dry and most of it went in the bin. Definitely won't be ordering food from there again.

I've yet to get a fish supper with nice crispy batter anywhere in Edinburgh. Oh portobello but nowhere else. Sadly this establishment has soggy batter. Too many chips. Which is normal but unnecessary 🙄 The service was good 👍 The lady that served me was polite 10/10

This was one of the worst meals ever. Chips, cold hard with bad bits. Have had great food from here previously, waste of money.

brillian service, fish was fresh, love the fact that the vinegar came in its own container and the added bonus of tar tar sauce. 10/10 from me

I ordered here before and got a fish supper and it was absolutely delicous so ordered again becoz i wanted a fish supper and unfortunetly did not taste as good as last time i think fryers need cleaned out could taste how old the oil was on the food and was some burnt debris with my food

I find the fish & chips and ciabatta is great taste, I got filled up as I was sharing food with mum.

I loved the ciabatta with cheese and tomatoes, taste like pizza and fish been cooked well and I would a lot of chips with fish. Over filled.

The discount code sent to my phone was not accepted and delivery driver stated that the discount was responsibility of Just Eat. There is therefore no point in sending a code to my phone if it is of no use ???????

Second time we've ordered here and both times it has been worth it. Food is great, delivered piping hot and on time or early!!

I love this chippy ,pizza and fish supper,blk puddin etc always pipin hot and fresh staff are always friendly.

I ordered a pizza and when it arrived it was all down in one corner didnt enjoy it

Has decent food but Also has a lot of chavs that crowd the place

The friery was one of the best but in the last year its been fairly bad, the chips always look like they are yesterdays left overs and reheated, their burgers with salad is just raw onion and a bit of shredded lettuce, they can at least out a slice if tomato on it

I have got to give this place 10/10 for my evening trip to get a white pudding supper with a pickle which was delivered by a really helpful lady and the portion was very good, so if you are hungry or fancy a pizza to a supper of your choice then please feel free to give it a go for you won't be disappointed 🤔👍🏼

Absolute garbage, horrible chips and chewy batter. I've never felt so ill after eating a chippy. Couldn't finish my super, it was disgusting and made me seriously unwell with severe pain in my stomach. I will never use this chippy again and I couldn't recommend it to anyone.

Pizza was very tasty and nice and hot. Unfortunately they don’t have Gluten-free but I was hungry and ready for something to eat so I might suffer for this tomorrow but I enjoyed it at the time.

One of the best fish & chips in the city, really good fish, fresh salads and big portions for a good price, they take care of the product they serve, chips&cheese with real cheddar cheese! Instead of mozzarella u other cheap cheese. We have been ordering several times and always very fast delivery.

Ordered a child’s chicken nuggets and chips but for some reason got sausages and chips- daughter was too hungry to wait but not impressed as she doesn’t like batter

They prepared 5 things in 20 minutes when the delivery was estimated at about 40 mins

We have ordered from this takeaway for years however the only thing that is letting them down is the chips they are totally dry Like they have been reheated, hopefully the staff take this feed back seriously and start doing freshly cooked chips or they are going to lose a lot of regular customers

We've only been ordering from here for less than a year and whilst the food is mostly good the service isn't the best. There has been 3 occasions when I've ordered for the delivery to be at a specific time (or as close too) and its turned it 30/40mins early and chippy food doesn't reheat well. I will say that the portions are decent though, especially the single fish where you get 2 pieces. Not sure if we'll keep ordering from here though.

So that was the last time I will order from the Friery. My pizza was burnt tonight. The 2 previous times I’ve ordered the food came over an hour late and was cold but refrained from putting on bad feedback as I’ve been using it for years. I gave more chances than I should of. Massimo kept very high standards until recently. Not sure what’s happened. Quite disappointed. Told loads of friends that you get the pizza in Edinburgh there, however not anymore.

Waited 45mins for delivery & Food was over cooked & not nice at all , will definitely not order from The Friery

5 star as always great food service and delivery can’t ask for more than that
