The Fox Inn in Newark and Sherwood

Call in with my partner on way home from Newark looks a nice place. States that's its home cooked food. I had the scampi witch was clear bag of frozen scampi from farm foods and frozen fries not home cooked at all and over priced for the quality of food won't go again🤣

Stopped off for a coke on the way back from a long ride to Skegness..waited at the bar and although the staff acknowledged me they didn't come over to serve me, I waited 5 minutes before leaving. Stopped at the shop and paid £1 for an ice cold coke instead.

Had a lovely meal and stayed overnight in our camper. The chicken tagine was beautifully cooked. There is a real selection of reasonably priced dishes The staff are so friendly and welcoming, a real village pub

We’d never been here before but called in with our two little dogs for Sunday lunch, staff were so accommodating and friendly. Sunday roast was perfect and the best mash I’d ever tasted ☺️ we sat there for hours just enjoying our time there. We will definitely be coming more often!

Stopped in my campervan in there carpark, all they ask is you eat in the pub. No probs at all,the food was lovely and the beer too.dog and child friendly. Gr8 pub stopover. Electric hook up available at a small cost

My wife and I had a meal here tonight. Staff are very friendly and polite, and the food was amazing. Both of us would definitely return and will be recommending to others too.

Absolutely stunning food, service, quality, atmosphere and price. From welcome to farewell, we have found a place which consistently delivers in every area. A truly amazing, dog friendly, motorhome friendly place that you will use on a very regular basis. Can't recommend this place highly enough. Thanks to Corina, Chef and all staff!!

Just had the best Sunday lunch we have ever had!! Everything on the plate was so tasty. Fantastic roast potatoes, leaks in sauce, amazing Yorkshire pudding and stuffing. Lots of meat with gorgeous gravy. The staff are so nice. All work really hard with attitude you just don't see in many places any more. Please just try it once, you will not regret it! Stopped off for a bite to eat on the way to Derbyshire The lady behind the bar was very friendly and helpful but the food was dreadful We just had a starter of 4 prawns that were quite clearly from Iceland or similar... I have no clue what they were wrapped in but they didnt look cooked and were very insipid. I pulled them apart and the prawn stuff inside was tasteless.... It all looked so uninteresting for £8!!!!!! The pub seemed very much a 70's throwback

Two different cask ales. Timothy Taylor and London Pride. Dogs are allowed and welcomed. Three separate bars and an eating area. Catering, party markey out the back. Decent sized car park.

Motorhome stop over, large reasonably level carpark.Really nice pub just been refurbished. Lovely pleasant staff. The food was well presented, really tasty and a reasonable price. What more could you ask for from a pub stop over. Well be back.

Hurrah, its open again following a super refurb. The pub is still lacking atmosphere but, early days. Limited menu, I didn't like the Fox burger but other dishes looked good.

The pie was very nice packed with filling I should have asked for the gravy seperate as it was poured over everything. The meal was only served with peas (which were a little hard) and mash potato it would have been nice for £14.95 to have another vegetable. The ribs and chicken with sweet potato fries were very nice, my only complaint was it would have been nice to have some wipes as the ribs were messy, the waitress did bring extra napkins when I asked.

Only stopped in for a pit stop on route to our destination. Met with smiley faces and a warm welcome.

Excellent staff. Very friendly and helpful. Didn't book but they gave the 8 of us a room to ourselves. Food was amazing.

10/10 meal. 10/10 service. We ordered one chicken and one gammon roast which were generously accompanied with creamy, buttery mashed potatoes, crispy and fluffy roasted potatoes, soft and sweet parsnips, a giant Yorkshire pudding, crispy stuffing, and our favourite; mini pigs in blankets (they were so good we requested extra). The leek, pea, carrot and cheese side was so unique and delicious. We will definitely return in the winter to try the beef roast. Thank you!

Lovely community feel about the place, immaculately clean and very welcoming. Dog friendly, amazing food, great prices, and a lovely outdoor section under a marquee on the grass for the warmer days. There is a fenced playpark for children, and even a pizza oven around the back as well (though we didn't look at that this time around). Staff were super friendly and made us feel like we'd found a piece of home - free pool table and darts as well, we will definitely be back.

Stopped off with the family. Pleased with the food, especially with the portions served with the kid's meals. Kids play area is a plus 👍.

What a smashing pub. £10 to park the motorhome overnight with ehu. Excellent and friendly service. We were even served our evening meals in the motorhome ! The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. Well worth a stay.

Campervan over night stay. Great food busy road quiet over night. Bear garden tent covered area, ideal for local stop over walk on river about 3 minutes away.

A lovely place full of character and pleasant staff and lovely food

Ordered a caramel cheese cake off the dessert menu, the menu did NOT state that there would be nuts on it. When it came it was topped with nuts so I went to the bar to ask what nuts they were as I have allergies to certain nuts. The bar staff didn’t know what was on it and got annoyed at me for asking. The one with red dyed hair was partially rude to me about it and told me “it’s your fault for not telling us you had allergies”. I said I should have been asked if I had any before ordering and that it should have been stated on the menu clearly. She and another lady tutted at me and stormed off into the kitchen. I was left with no clear answer on what nuts they were and felt like an inconvenience for having allergies. No one with allergies should be made to feel like a problem when eating out. Do better. The chef came out to apologise on behalf of the other staff, but by that point I had already given up and no longer wanted to deal with the drama caused by a few nuts on a cake.

Very good food friendly service great little snug

A cosy friendly pub with traditional decor and many fox themed decorations! The pies we had were hot and tasty served on hot plates too. We enjoyed our visit and would visit again.

Normally a fan of the Fox, however if a member of staff is going to make fun of a customer when getting a drink from the other bar perhaps she should do it out of earshot. Everything else was great. Shame, won't return out of choice.

First visit on a quiet Saturday afternoon with my wife. The single barmaid served 4 regulars before even bothering to acknowledge us. No IPAs on draught (barmaid looked confused when I asked) and only Spanish sauvignon blanc. Could not recognise any of the wine brands so had doubts over the quality. Decided to leave as just wasn't feeling the love. Large outdoor beer garden. Atmosphere seemed nice too.

Has a great sunday lunch here recently. Elderly relatives weren't keen on the couple of 'friendly' foxes and made for a some awkward questions from the kids but food was amazing. Staff very friendly. Some nicer looking tables in the raised restaurant area might be nice, or cover the current ones with nice tablecloths. Also allows dogs inside so another plus to remember in future.

Stayed 1 night in our motorhome. Didn't have electric hookup but was available for £10. Had a lovely home cooked meal. Great communication when booking and welcome to the pub.

Pleasant enough staff, friendly but somewhat stand-off-ish a few times. The atmosphere of the pub was nice, though; homely and nice decor. The only thing that disappointed me was the dining area set up. The tables were set up a bit like a canteen more so than a restaurant. That being said, the food was absolutely lovely, and we had no complaints about the service itself. Definitely would recommend it, and we would like to go back when the pub is a bit busier and more lively!

Lovely food with a broad menu that has something for everyone (braised blade of beef, battered haddock; Veggoe chilli & lasagne all excellent) friendly service; excellent choice of different flavour gins. Reasonable prices too.

Nice pub and pretty good food however the building is a bit tired and dated. Wanted an outside table but there was only one and a little on the pricey side for lunch but enjoyed it anyway.

Took my fiancée there for an impromptu birthday dinner. What a delightful place!! Best food, great atmosphere, great service

We dined at the Fox Inn yesterday Excellent building / decor, excellent atmosphere, good food, good staff, spacious car parking. Overall it did seem a little pricey to be rated 5 stars, but 4 stars is very good nevertheless! We'll be back!

Great pub, friendly staff and really nice food

Called in to the Fox on our way to Derbyshire, purely on the off chance, for lunch. The young lady was friendly, professional and helpful. My wife had scampi and I the ham & eggs. Well cooked, generous portions and served quickly. Great place to stop for lunch at a fair price.

We have a arranged end of year shoot dinner. I understand prices go up. But how can you justify. £31.95 for a three course, when you look at the menu and when you price each individual course it comes to a total roughly about £25. The Christmas meal was £24.95. When asked they have reduced it by a pound . Arent they considerate . I won't be attending this meal. When you have about 40 people attending and spending money on drinks too, someone is making a handsome profit

We got there on rainy Sunday when other places were fully booked and we were so glad we did. Amazing little cozy place, with fireplace. We ordered Sunday roast and it was heaven 🥰 absolutely amazing food highly recommended.

We were here for a Christmas meal. The food was superb. The staff took great care to look after us, and we were a big group, and were simply lovely. Definitely recommend.

The only reason I couldn't give 5 for atmosphere is we were there when the surrounding area was flooded, and therefore a lack of clientele. However, top marks for friendly people, the food and the value was good, we had dinner here. Would definitely go back.

Great location! We had a very nice time in this inn and had a delicious meal. While paying at the bar we had a very nice conversation with the lady behind the counter. Great staff and a lovely Sunday lunch!

The chicken Sunday meal was faultless, I would have paid double it was that tasty, hot and delicious. My wife had the pork Sunday meal , she couldn’t fault it, absolutely delicious we couldn’t eat all of it.

First time visiting today . We visited as my sister in law was visiting from London and we were dropping her off at Newark train station. We were a bit dubious to start with as there were no cars in car park. We ordered sausage and mash , homemade lasagna and hunters chicken . The food was absolutely lovely and well worth the money ! Only criticism is the cobwebs in the dining room from all the dried hops and skylights but other than that , a very lovely dining experience!

Sadly didn't quite hit the mark. Stopped for food and went into the main bar/restaurant area. Great ceiling area with beams and hung hops which look great and fit a pub theme, but the area in general just lacks warmth and character. Even the dining tables are out of place and more what you'd expect to be outside or in a cafe. My meal (the Fox Burger) was tasty, but just a little too salty for my taste, that said, anyone who salts their food would be OK but I never salt my meals. My partners meal had overcooked pastry on the pie, and the green beans were under cooked, so based on price, taste and comparison with other similar places sadly I can only say OK and not a wow that makes you want to return. Overall, OK, but I'm looking for better than that.

Best sunday lunch ive had for a long time. Cheese cakes are beautiful.

Called in for lunch and chose the meaty sharing platter. Everything was well cooked and very tasty. However, we found the selection of accompanying dips bizzare. Guacamole, salsa and soured cream is fine with nachos but with chips, sausages, wings, duck rolls etc ??? we should have had dips that complimented the food. We asked for ketchup and were given 3 sachets of unbranded stuff. Please change your dip selection and it would be a great plate of food.

Very popular but as we went on a week day was less busy food was reasonably processed and good portioned and nice what can I say a positive experience will go again thank you 😊

Love this place. Loved it as a bar. Loved it a place of solace. Now a wedding venue with the central courtyard roofed over as a warm wedding venue. Couples can even be wedded there ,as opposed to just wedding reception venue. Recommended. Lovely beers as well.

Always driven past here when I work around the country and tonight realised I was staying just around the corner so I thought I would give it a go. The staff are very pleasant, it was a warm welcome the food was absolutely lovely I had brie to start and then the fox inn Burger for mains. Everything tasted like it was homemade with a perfectly seasoned burger which if it is brought in I want to know the supplier as that tasted homemade and perfectly seasoned will definitely be visiting again. Prices were reasonable and genuinely a great little pub.

Probably the best Sunday dinner I've ever had eating out. If I had to be picky, I'd say the roasts went done enough, but they were still nice, and the Yorkshire pudding & gravy was tip top. Thank you very much.

Stayed over in our motorhome. Staff very helpful and friendly. The food was great, especially the belly pork! We will be back!

Great food (Steak and Ale pie delicious) and 2 of my favourite beers, Timothy Taylors Landlord & Old Speckled Hen, on draught! Friendly staff, huge car park, lovely village just outside Newark. What's not to like!

Popped in whilst the daughter had a 'do' down the road for a cheeky pint and a burger. - service, excellent. very polite young ladies. attentive, working with purpose. Good stuff - atmosphere. could be tidied up here and there, but ticks the "local pub with food" box. the raised dining area wasn't particularly welcoming , so went outside ... a nice and tranquil spot - Food. Fox burger. damn fine, melted cheese, decent bacon and a very well cooked Burger.(Thick, juicy and perfectly cooked.) Skin on crispy chips, lovlely Home made onion rings, not greasy, and very crisp..... lovley I'll definitely be back. Thank you for looking after me Fin
