Lovely old, interesting pub , cheerful and friendly welcome from landlord Graham, very delicious pies , we had chicken & leek & steak & kidney and would recommend them, delivered to our table by pleasant, friendly staff We also had a nice pint of Guinness, in a pretty village setting of Corscombe, ponies in field opposite and birdsong all around , charming place, we’ll definitely be coming back

Trekked out from our hotel on the most awful rainy March night, to find this austere small pub in the middle of nowhere. It was well-reviewed for its pies, and (after the understandable 40 minute wait) we weren’t disappointed. Steak and kidney snd steak and ale were excellent, served with a good portion of green veg and fries. Simple but well done by a small and obliging staff.

Cracking pub. Under new management with a new menu. Had a family lunch there yesterday - delicious and expertly constructed duck confit with 5 bean cassoulet, cod in tapenade crust with salsa verde and new potatoes, crème brûlée, chocolate ganache, and affogato. Great local ales, a good range of Sherry for something different and a nice interesting and affordable wine list. Can’t wait to go back and sit outside in the gorgeous surroundings but happy indoors too. Very dog and family friendly too. Superb value, quality ingredients and highly recommended

Very unimpressed with the pub compared to the last time we visited when it was under the previous management. Tonight there was no friendly welcome, the dining areas were cold, the service was incredibly slow, the staff were disinterested and the food was mediocre. An incontinent dog cocked his leg throughout the pub to the amusement of the staff. We won’t be going back.

The Fox Inn, under new management since about May 2023, is now an excellent pub, serving excellent and generously portioned food with good house wines and very friendly service, all a very reasonable price. I write this as a local who is delighted to get a great pub back in the village. Trip Advisor is misleading in the averages because it makes no distinction between different ownerships and managements going back over many years. The present publican, Sharon, is doing a great job, as mentioned in a previous review. Although this may sound like a puff piece I have no connection to the pub or to the management except as a customer.

We visited today (30 June) - it's very definitely not closed! We only stopped for a couple of pints of (very well-kept) Exmoor Ale but will definitely be back. A pub with a lot of traditional atmosphere in a beautiful location. There are outside seats too. So glad that Sharon is now running The Fox and taking it back to being a traditional country pub.

Whilst everybody seems to rave about Mark Hix and his London priced mediocre food and badly kept beer, they have lost sight of the fact that in his short tenure, he has destroyed one of the best village pubs in Dorset. To those who say that it's the best meal they ever had, I would say Living on a diet of junk food and takeaways doesn't necessarily make you a good judge of culinary standards. Shame on you Mark Hix.

I read Mark Hix’s page in the Telegraph every week and recently he has been worrying about the weather and staff recruitment. For our visit we were seated in the corner on the left in the pub and suffered a cold draught blowing in through the open doors used by the staff to service the tent outside. We asked for the door to be closed. It was really the main courses which were disappointing. Monk fish cheeks were just about all breadcrumbs (scampi in a basket?). Give me cod’s cheeks any day! Half my partners turbot, which came as two pieces, wasn’t cooked. His dish was whisked away, and a replacement insisted upon. . He tried to stop the order because he had eaten the veg accompaniment, and I had eaten my main course. The moment had gone really. But another 5 minutes later the replacement piece of fish arrived anyway. It was refused and then fully charged later on the bill. Needless to say we objected, so the price of two desserts was deducted with a degree of reluctance we felt.So a bit of a disappointment. Maybe we were just unlucky?

We first came down from West Sussex in mid-May for my Sunday birthday lunch and then a week ago, just after the late Bank Holiday weekend, another lunch as we were staying in the area and the food, service and staff was equally as good as the previous time. It was nice to see the menu had changed to again reflect local and season produce. We sat outside and enjoyed the sun, the fizz, the nettle soup and excellent main courses. The staff have time to chat, and to engage with customers and Mark Hix is very welcoming. We will definitely be going back and The Fox Inn is one of our favourite pubs and eating places in West Dorset.

Came to have a pint and some lunch with a view to returning one evening to this iconic old pub. We won't be! Pretentious overpriced rip off. Its not really a pub at all so why pretend. We had ploughman's at £9 each which consisted of one tasteless slice of white bread, one pickled onion and a teaspoon of piccalilli, the Cheddar was good but tiny serving. If you don't really want people who are not intending to spend £50 a head for lunch, don't bother pretending to cater for casual diners. Young waiting staff were enthusiastic but obviously been told to push the expensive menu. Unbelievably if you want water with your meal you'll be charged for that too. Marc Hicks should hang his head in shame.

Some friends and I visited a few weeks ago. As a local i was looking to support the new landlord. However, the afternoon there was a real let down. Every order and query had to be repeated at least twice. Wrong drinks where brought out. The staff, and there was a lot of them. Were friendly but not up to the job. Why does it take three requests for them to bring out the sauces for the chip butties. The chip butties were appalling. Cheap bread and three chips inside that had been sliced. Come off it. It they cannot get a chip buttie right then there really isn't much hope. When asking for the bill (that took three attempts) we requested that we would not pay the service charge. The bill then came out with extra drinks added onto this. A supposed mistake. The service charge still hadn't been removed. By this point we had given it up and just wanted to go home. Throughout all of this the new landlord was sitting at the end table with his friends. No attempt was made by him to talk to circulate among his customers. We have now been advised that most of the locals have now gone to the Wyneyards gap. I can see why. Very disappointing as really wanted a local decent pub. But this is not it. When Shane and Sophie ran the place. The food may have been a bit variable. But the service was always spot on and friendly. What a shame.

Having been to the Fox Inn on many previous occasions under the previous ownership I can truly say this pub has changed. When I arrived I saw a big old looking marquee which looked quite run down, however inside was well heated by gas heaters by each table. At the beginning of being seated and shown to a table the service was perfectly good but that was soon to change. We were given a wine/drinks list which was in my opinion did not have a large enough variety of drinks. The prices of these drinks was extortionate compared to the prices of the previous ownership for a small but popular drinking and eating pub. I personally did not see many if any people from the local community/area compared to previous ownership and found this very sad but hardly surprising given the pricing of both food and drink. As the evening went on myself and a few others ordered a dessert later in the evening which I was very disappointed about as it came out on cold plates which I felt should be warm/hot and the apple pie was cold alongside the custard which I had specifically asked to have served hot and the waitress assured me that it would be. I waited to complain and for it to be sent back for a few minutes until someone else waiting came back in to ask if everything was ok and I simply said no and my plate was taken back to be heated which the young gentleman settled very nicely for me. Ending the night with the bill we were shocked to see a mandatory 12.5% service bill charge of which we felt was an excessive amount given the quality of the service.Overall I think that the staff could be more approachable and a larger variety of both food and drinks that a local pub would normally sell. I was quite shocked not see many “Pub Grub” food on the menu apart from Fish and chips which I wouldn’t pay the price for. For a small local area a fancy restaurant in my opinion does not fit in and is a shame to see such a well known local pub that you could go for a chilled drink with friends and know everyone been pushed aside. Such a shame to not see any locals too.

First Sunday lunch outpost lockdown.... food excellent as we have come to expect, always our first choice and we look forward to a Hix Sunday lunch. Great qualIty ingredients as always for our lunch, excellent roast beef sirloin, cooked beautifully medium rare, massive Yorkshire pudding and all the potatoes and veg excellent. It was a sunny and warm day for mid Spring hence the place was very busy. As a result service was a little stretched and a little sporadic which did impact our overall experience from outstanding to very good. The team were warm and friendly despite the obvious pressure points however, the main challenge being the initial wait to order our food, after that everything did flow. It’s the same Hix experience we have always enjoyed in a stunning country pub location. Beautiful location, loved the tent which was heated and felt COVID safe. Food couldn’t be faulted, good selection on the menu and quality drinks on offer to accompany the food. The downfall was the service which, when paying 12.5%, should be exceptional. Lack of proactivity and visibility amongst the waiting team, difficult to get anyones attention to order drinks, puddings, coffees. No one checking to ensure everything is ok throughout the visit, seems to be driven by the customers having to ask .....hopefully something that will be sorted quickly.

Having been to the Fox inn for many years we were looking forward to returning as lockdown lifted... Having a seat outside next to the babbling brook was idyllic... However, we had not realised it was under new management until the menu arrived. Now part of the Hicks chain I am afraid this has come with an unacceptable premium; definatly a case of paying for the ‘name’. We ordered the monk fish cheeks with mushy peas and chips at nearly £15 each so our expectations were high. Although nice it was not worth the money, unfortunately trying to produce and charge for high end food when sat outside on a normal UK chilly evening is just not appropriate.. This is a country pub and not a London chic indoor venue..There was no more pub like options on the menu which should be available to cater for those that do not want such high end offerings.. The icing on the cake however was then to have a 12.5% service charge added to the bill. What exactly was this paying for I ask - we were sat outside and had one drink and our food brought to us - there was no check back and we got food before our drinks.... there appeared to be a lot of staff and yet this is not reflected in the experience. In summary this venue has now become spoilt and having read the other reviews (which I had not read before we visited) our view is not along. We will not return again until there is a more realistic adjustment to the prices and some positive views appear. In summary my advice is although great to pop in for a drink to enjoy sitting outside don’t go for the food unless you are happy to pay top end prices for an average experience....

I was really looking forward to eating at The Fox on Wednesday 21 April, but left feeling really disappointed. The service was so slow. Food came out before drinks, we had to ask for everything at every stage. We were going to have a pudding, after a long wait for the menu however, we were left for over 20 mins at which point we decided against pudding. We were not given glasses for water..... there were just lots of really simple things that did not happen with regards to the service that did not make for a great experience. I think this venue has a great opportunity to get it right but with this sort of start it will soon fail! Come on The Fox, it would be great to return and see some improvements.

We were looking forward to an alfresco lunch under the new Landlord at The Fox having been a regular for over 20 years..Drink orders slow to be taken bit too much faffing about with the staff and they all looked uncomfortable and till issues did not help and the Landlord lurking! ..Food a little slow to arrive but good when it arrived. Maybe a few simpler dishes for the passing lunchtime trade ?My husbands beer glass remained empty for some time before we could flag up our needs......empty glasses in the pub trade surely are not to be encouraged Even the Landlord walked past us on 4 occasions having spoken to everyone but us ..perhaps we looked dodgy !! But a simple "can I organise another Beer for you " would have gone down well.A little more training in service would be good particularly with the high gratuity on our bill. The lovely young man who bought out the card machine was unaware that contactless is only up to £45I am sure these problems will be ironed!... its early days! The Fox is in a lovely rural position and has historically been very much a village Pub welcoming all and relying heavily on the Locals during the Winter months to keep things going. It does really need to be an amazing eating experience to warrant the prices and the trip out !Good Luck!

We sat outside on the grassy area which gave us a lovely view of the pub and a bit of people watching as village life in the shape of horses, tractors and walkers passed by. It was busy with locals, always a good sign, and everyone was friendly and welcoming. Covid restrictions were taken very seriously but didn’t ruin the feel of the place.I can’t comment on the food this time but I’ve heard good things and I’ll definitely be back.

This is a good rural pub. Well kept ale, delicious food and great service. The team here are friendly, attentive and very covid-aware. We will be making another visit soon.

We paid two visits to this lovely early 18th c. pub in Corscombe. The landlord was the or original genial host and the Sunday roast, sticky toffee pudding, wine, Wild cider and ports went down a treat. Reasonably priced and such a pretty location with lots of outdoor tables on both side of a tiny road. I loved seeing a lady on horseback nd her little girl order drinks and consume them without dismounting, Lots of locals up for a chat. and a great atmosphere. Post-Covid the pub is only open Thursdays to Sundays but the pub have tried very hard to create a safe atmosphere with a separate entrance and exit, nice loos, contact list and limited numbers inside. Highly recommended. And the pub sells gorgeous fresh baked granary or white bread on Saturday mornings!

We popped in for some food, which was lovely. On entering we were greeted by an unfriendly face from the bar woman, think her name was Sophie as overheard some of the locals calling her. The whole visit we did not see her smile once, just not good customer service at all. Even when clearing our plates she just said “you done?”, no “how was your food?” Or any kind of acknowledgement of the fact that we were actually customers. Not everyone loves their job, I know, but working in customer service you should at least put a fake smile on, she just couldn’t be bothered. There was however a man (I believe he was the owner/landlord) who was very enthusiastic and helpful, who did slightly make up for this unpleasant experience. Wouldn’t be overly excited about going back here to eat, which is a shame because it is good food.

A shadow of its former self and now one of the worst pubs in Dorset, the Fox continues its sad decline. There is now no welcome, only a hostile stare. The food is notoriously terrible, the beer atrocious, and the staff couldn't care less. This pub has now returned to its function under the previous ownership as a hangout for the local alcoholics, to whom all care and attention is devoted. Once the local community was pleased to hear that it had been rescued from closure. Now they wish it had been closed down.

Always wanted to go here as seemed so idyllic and the archetypal English village pub. Unfortunately had always been closed as we had previously headed past. Managed to visit yesterday as we were passing on the way home from a day out in Devon. Probably the most unwelcome I have ever been made to feel in a village local. Aside from the usual strange looks from the locals when someone unfamiliar walks in (which you expect to some degree), the young lady’s manner who served us left me wondering if we had done something to offend her. After this uncomfortable exchange withdrew to the cold side / back bar where our attempts to discuss what had occurred were somewhat drowned out by what sounded like Kiss FM blaring out the speakers. Managed to drink half a pint of the Bath Ales Gem (which tasted as if it was mixed with vinegar) and for the first time ever gave it up as a bad job and left a pub with more than half a pint left in my glass. Pub looks nice from the front though.

Called in for their Sunday roast having phoned beforehand to book as didn't want to be disappointed. We sat outside in the sun having a drink before we were called in to eat. We both picked the Roast Pork which came with Roast potato's, crackerling and a medley of veggies. For pudding we had the lemon possit and the sticky toffee. All were delicious. Our beers were good too. We'll defineately return again and maybe call in on a Wednesday evening for their special Chicken and Chips and a drink for £10.

Called in for lunch. We took advantage of the Sausage, Mash and a Pint offer for a tenner and Ham, Egg & Chips. All pretty good especially the local real ale. They have a blackboard showing the provenance of their ingredients. It’s a lovely venue and worth the trip from Bridport and reasonable value in the middle of the day.

Welcoming arrival from the staff after a 30 minute drive a across the Dorset countryside. With riverside tables and a cosy conservatory. The staff were extremely polite and attentive. Two of us had had the rib eye, which was delicious. The menu choices were just right, hard to decide though as didn't want to miss anything special, there were 2 vegetarian options. Really pleased that all the food was locally sourced to support the surrounding areas. Definitely worth a visit and would recommend it for quality and attention to detail.

A good country pub with an archetypal jovial and accommodating Landlord with a very efficient young staff. Despite the Fox being inundated with a large group event, we had the warmest of welcomes and a very relaxed approach to our small group ordering and paying as individuals. Meals were produced in reasonable time and if the quality was a little below that expected by the pricing, that was more than compensated by the lovely atmosphere and ambience,

We arrived without booking for a quick bite before we went to a local music event. The pub was heaving and had a great atmosphere. We ordered a single course. Our drinks were very good and served promptly. Our timing was not the best, due to the sheer number of people ordering food, so we had to wait a long time to get ours. We were offered more drinks and when my moules frites arrived and my wife's burger, we were very content with the food. The staff were suitably apologetic for the understandable delay. The pub was nearly empty by the time we ate and then we saw the same people at the music event up the road!

The food was delicious and we shall be rebooking before Christmas as its half way between us all- what's not to love?!

We've had supper here with locals quite a few times and this is my second review of this lovely quaint old country pub. There is always a chatty atmosphere from locals drinking at the bar as you wander through to the conservatory style restaurant. Service is quick and efficient by friendly young staff. The tempura prawns as a starter are simply yummy and ours quickly vanished. Two of us had the pan-fried hake main course from the specials menu served on a delicious sweet potato cake with crispy onion rings. The fish was perfectly cooked and flaky. We all had ice cream to finish. The bill including for three courses and drinks with a tip came to under £30 per person which we think is very good value for money.

We visited on a recommendation and were pleased we did. The pub looks lovely from the outside and is also lovely on the inside. There's seating outside the front and back for warmer days. The food was delicious and the service was friendly. Price wise I think it's about average. I would definitely recommend this place if you're in the area.

after a wind blown swim in the sea we decided we wanted some comforting food and hot drinks - initially sat right on the front of the patio and the lady in charge was there in a mo with menus and a brush to wipe sand off the table top - we decided it was still to windy there, so moved back against cafe wall. Orders quickly taken - food wasn't fast, but my golly when it came it was fresh and delicious - from bacon sandwiches to american pancakes and bacon - all piping hot and full of flavour.

Ate here Friday evening three of us had wood fired pizzas which were delicious, pleasant staff as always. On the Saturday two of us visited for lunch. We had crab sandwiches with a mixed leaf salad, they were tasty enough but £11 seems too much...

We were camping just down the road this past weekend and decided to have a browse - I'm glad we did as there was much more to this farm shop than I was expecting. Lots of different produce and gifts type things all quite nicely set out. Some things were sensibly priced considering you do expect to pay a slight premium at a farm shop (postcards 50p, fresh scones £1, clotted cream £1.99), but some of the prices were a little shocking - there were loaves of fresh bread at £4.50 and I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the price of ice cream being served at the side of the car park! Overall a worthwhile trip - the scones were delicious, good selection of ciders and got some lovely warm slipper socks. I'd recommend popping in if you're passing (the views are fantastic too) just don't expect any bargains.

Lovely hotel and friendly helpful staff. Pricey at £350 B&B with very average rooms but good breakfast, although service very slow. Sadly not accessible for those with mobility disorders as no lift, steep stairs and few accessible bathrooms However, marvellous for lunch or dinner on a day out
