The Fox Inn in North Dorset

Birthday get together with the family. Visited the Fox years ago and it was great. Not so much today. I had a rare steak and the cut, (not the fault of the chef) was very sinewus, if that is even a word. Cooked and seasoned well but disappointing. Onion rings were great though. Desert however, wasn’t great, the brownie tasted like the chocolate had been burnt and the sticky toffee was very dry. Service was not fluid and brash to say the least. Very defensive when I mentioned about the steak and was interrupted when explaining. This let the experience down. Food was ok, service, very poor and non attentive.

Great fun, good drinks, quick service - excellent chips. The soup and pie specials looked great as well, as did the rest of the extensive menu

After driving for 7 hours from home , the fox inn was recommended by our local air b and b hosts in Milton . Staff are very friendly and was nice and quite on a Thursday night . We was quickly seated . Pleased to see they are dog friendly The food was very nice and my daughter has the apple crumble and said it was the best one yet .

Our room was nice, changed room from the one we were first offered which had no view, bar was nice, staff very attentive, dinner in the restaurant was very limited, my husband asked for a rare sirloin steak, which it was not my , fish and chips was ok but too much batter, food very average and quite expensive, no change of menu for the second night, no specials board, breakfast was ok, very disappointing that the brewery mentioned across the road, was no longer, the fox inn is in a very rural location, will not be returning

Visited with our in laws on a Friday evening. Given that I had booked online and made a faux pas by booking for Saturday in stead of Friday this was no problem at all thankfully! Great service, great food, as usual can’t fault! Look forward to returning again!

Dined here on the first evening of our week in Dorset - so good, we came back two more times. Food was excellent - big servings - all fresh and very tasty. Staff were excellent. A popular place - we never pre-booked, but they were always able to seat us straight away.

The staff are all lovely, the food is amazing (scrambled eggs and salmon for breakfast etc) and our room was spacious and very clean. Would highly recommend

We stayed one night on a short golf trip we only had bed and breakfast the pub is very nice clean and nice the decor is good our bedroom was extremely nice views to the front the breakfast was good very tasty I would recommend staying here if you are looking at this area a shop across the road stocking everything for you needs the staff where helpful and friendly

Lovely setting for a family evening meal. Warm reception and very accommodating staff who catered for our needs with a large table for a disabled guest plus dog! Excellent service and an interesting menu which catered for all our different tastes. The food was good and portion sizes reasonable. Would definitely visit again and recommend

After waiting an hour the adults meals were cold and the kids meals roasting hot Ordered a steak medium it was so tough and well done After mentioning to the manager she replied they were busy and the Chef said he sent 3 steaks out and at the same time but only ours was cold . Then was told they were busy ! Rude and poor service

Nice to sit outside in the late afternoon/early evening sun. A pity that the barmaid at the outside bar was bordering on rude, and not only to us! Thankfully she finished her shift so going to the bar again was much nicer. Foodwise, the Fish and Chips option was tasty, and other plates of food looked very nice.

Got off to a bad start. At 18.45 only diners were to couples seated together. Despite this the server directed us to the adjoining table. I asked if we might have the vacant table near the open door. Already taken she said. I then asked if I might have a table away from other diners since I do not wish to hear their chatter. She seated us out of the restaurant area near the servery. OK but then 20 minutes later a couple arrived who, i heard them say, had booked 1 hour earlier. in contrast to my booking by email (unanswered) and follow up phone call the day previous. They were shown by another waitress (the friendly and attractive one) to the very seats I had requested. They had obviously not booked it because they were on the same campsite opposite as we were. I have no idea why this server lied and why she lied about the restaurant being full - it never got full - but she lessened our enjoyment of the evening. The food was nothing special but unexceptionable. Tip. If there are two servers and one is markedly more attractive the the other, try to catch her eye. She has a pleasant demeanour to match her appearance. Not so the other one.

Excellent Mother's Day lunch, the whole atmosphere under new management with fabulous happy staff and professional service makes for a lovely visit.

Sunday lunch, booked but plenty of room, now we know why ! Roast pork and roast beef whilst the meat on everyone’s plate was tender and fine, the potatoes could have been fired from a cannon ! Hard outer but soft in the middle, the vegetables well who served veg for three and only gives you two parsnips ! Had to ask for more, wish we hadn’t bothered carrots dried up and limp, broccoli tough as old boots, up side the Yorkshire pudding was crispy and nice. Certainly not up to previous visits although not been at a weekend before. Staff pleasant and attentive though, not the best Sunday lunch so might give it a miss at weekends. We felt it represented poor value for the price.

Now under new management, friendly, helpful staff and pleasingly used by locals on a Monday night. Enjoyed an excellent meal, flavoursome, tasty and cooked to perfection duck faggots. You don't see them on the menu every day and it is a shame. Will definitely be back with far more enthusiasm than has preciously been the case. Well done the Fox Team.

Went to The Fox for a meal and can't rate it enough. Started with the cod cheeks, absolutely superb. After much deliberation chose the rump steak which is reared on the farm across the road. I am so glad I did, can honestly say it was probably the best rump steak I have ever had. The meal was superb, the service was fantastic. Thank you!

Lovely little inn well situated in the Dorset this place is ideal for those little get-aways when you need to unwind. Special mention goes to the showers in the superior rooms Food is good too, which is great when you want to stop in early on those winter nights.

As fellow publicans with a Destination food led pub The Forester near Shaftesbury, it was a delight to find an excellent Food Led business with such delicious food I had the Steak and Wine Pie and my wife had the Brisket from the Specials Board. Superb and couldn’t have been better We will be back and will probably book overnight stay so we can have a lovely bottle of wine too ! We were on a weekend break and booked in for an evening meal on the saturday - on arrival we were warmly welcomed and taken to our table, drinks were served prompty and the waiter took us through the evenings specials, we had pheasant pie, fish n chips and squash risotto - all were very tasty, well presented and delivered in fair time - staff all friendly and attentive - worth a visit if you are in the area

We popped in for lunch as we were in the area. Very friendly and efficient staff. My husband had the pie of the day (steak and kidney), which he thoroughly enjoyed. It was a twenty-minute wait as stated on the menu as they make the pies. Worth waiting for. I had sea bream with gnocchi and samphire. Also excellent. There was no need to order sides as both dishes were substantial. Unfortunately, we were too full for desserts. The drinks were good, too.

It was pouring with rain outside and wonderful to retreat into a cosy, welcoming pub, with long standing friends I hadn't see for years. The food was delicious, especially the fish pie which was packed with seafood and followed by a light meringue dessert. Thank you for making the afternoon so memorable.

A great place to have a reunion lunch with friends, which was delicious. Even better that I could stay the night there too, due to having a long drive home. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

I enjoyed a simply wonderful lunch, supper and breakfast here and slept in a beautiful room with country view and blissful peace and quiet! Choice of rain shower or regular (which was really great). Best place I've been in years. The staff were attentive but un-fussy and the service was great for all meals even though they were clearly very busy. The food was exceptional (the creamiest risotto :) mmmmm) and I breakfasted like a King (I'm thinking Henry VIII here - at his heaviest - on the locally produced sausages and bacon which I believe come from the farm opposite - couldn't be any environmentally better could it? The Fox is a little off the beaten track but absolutely all the better for it and you'd do well to try it out for yourself.

Delicious food and great service. The fish pie was packed with fish and prawns with a delicious hint of tarragon.

Lovely pub in deepest Dorset. Served up the most delicious fish pie I've had in a long time, with veg cooked just right. Staff were attentive and food came on time. Had a great time with friends at a school reunion. We were made to feel very welcome.

Thanks to all the staff for looking after us so well. Fifteen guests for a delicious lunch, seven stayed on for supper and the night. A wonderful atmosphere and roaring log fires. A lovely, rural location in the heart of beautiful, Dorset countryside.

A wonderful stay in this beautiful country inn.! The staff were friendly, attentive and welcoming. We had a delicious lunch with a large group of friends. In the evening the food was excellent and well priced. We are in a cozy ‘snug’ with a wood burner providing a lovely atmosphere. The room was very comfortable & looked recently refurbished, including a classy en suite bathroom. Good supplies of tea etc provided too. Delicious full English breakfast too! A lovely stay, thank you!

Booked for lunch so was surprised to be met by less than enthusiastic welcome. Waitress was helpful but the food was very slow to appear. There were three other tables occupied in a large restaurant. Steaks were exceptionally chewy for medium rare and salad leaves were past their best and do.e were actuslly slimey. Croutons were very stale. Chips had the appearance of being reheated and were verging on burnt. Coffee was ordered with one pudding. It arrived cold and 15 minutes before the pudding turned up. . My friend asked how long till the pudding and was rebuffed by "there's a lot to do"! My friends had visited from The Cotswolds and I was very embarrassed by my lunch venue choice. The place was clean and seemed well maintained but the good was definitely below par.

We'd booked a table for 7.30pm, got there on time and luckily we were shown to a quieter part of the restaurant/pub. We ordered drinks & food from the specials menu promptly. The drinks arrived PDQ but after waiting 40 mins, I had to ask when the dinner was going to arrive. There seemed to be plenty of waiting staff moving about, all pleasant & attentive, but why does the kitchen take so long to rustle up a bit of dinner. Many previous reviews have mentioned this point. Does the management not read these reviews? We cant fault the food as the quality was good & quantity more than sufficient, but to wait so long does spoil the experience, after all its only a bit of dinner. We may be back, we'll see.

Excellent warm friendly pub in High Antsy Dorset. A warm atmosphere inside with friendly attentive staff and full menu to choose from. We used the pub three times over our long weekend away and every time we very happy.
