A group of us booked a meal at Fox House for Sunday lunch. The booking wasn't d badly smooth sailing with the table provided not fitting the number of people booked on but we sorted that ourselves. The main issue with our visit was the service, . .absolutely appalling. It was Sunday, it was busy but this isn't unusual for this restaurant and there were lots of staff. Our table ordered Sunday lunch, which the menu boasted came with all the gravy you could want. We also ordered some sides of herb crusted cauliflower cheese. After a long wait for our food'gt arrived, with minimal gravy and without the cauliflower cheese. We asked for more gravy (which the menu encourages you to do) and it never arrived. The cauliflower also never arrived.we'd all pretty much finished, so i went to find a server and they said they'd run out of cauliflower cheese and were just making it, and the gravy was on its way. The cauliflower cheese did eventually come but it had obviously been rushed, it wasn't cooked, the cheese sauce was floury and there was no herb crust. For nearly 5 quid a pop this wasn't acceptable, and we complained and they did take it off the bill. However why not just tell us they'd run out rather than offering a poor version of the dish? The unlimited gravy only materialised in small jugs as we were finishing our dry roast dinners. . . Again not great! The time between being offered dessert menu and taking our orders was along time and to bringing out the deserts was nearly 25 minutes. Overall a really poor experience. The meat itself and roast was good, but the lack of gravy,sides and poor, slow service just put a negative spin on everything. We weren't even offered an apology. Unlikely to returning in a hurry

Having ordered and paid for our meals at the bar , we waited for an hour before we went back to ask where our meals were...? They arrived straight away but were sent back as they were both cold...! When the second meals arrived we then realised we had no cutlery.. food was warm but bland and over priced. So all in all a very disappointing experience

The waitress and the desserts were good. 3 of the 4 meals ordered were much below standard and that is being generous. The rating would be below one star. The Penang curry was 2 long pieces of tough hard to chew pieces of chicken sitting on the small amount of veg curry. The chicken in breadcrumbs tasted of old oil only and was fried far too long and the chips were dry and shrivelled and almost cold. Very embarrassing and extremely disappointing. We will not be booking a meal there again.

Family weekend away, 3 family rooms and a double, 14 in our party in total. Great location for a weekend of leisurely walks. I agree with previous reviews, the beds are really hard and the sofa beds are very springy (squeaky whenever our boys moved)so two nights of discomfort, but we were prepared for that. Friday night dinner took an age to arrive, which we were compensated for on the Saturday, however we pre-ordered Saturday night's dinner and it still took a long time to arrive and as with the previous night it was the children's food that came out last. We have a food allergy in our group and when we asked the waiter if it was the vegan option (which is the safest option for his allergies) he just sighed, shrugged and said "no idea" and when asked about a side order of veg he returned with it and launched it across the table. (I'll be fair the pub was busy and we were a large party, he may have been having a bad shift, but unfortunately this let the rest of the waiting staff down). Breakfast on the other hand was dealt with by one chap alone and he was cheery, organised and pleasant to everyone. Shame about the evening meals (this was dealt with whilst we were there) otherwise good food, clean rooms and on the whole friendly staff.

A beautiful spot and atmospheric pub. It was a Bank holiday and we hadn't booked and just managed to find a table outside. The sharing platters took an hour! We weren't warned about the delay. The food was lovely but there wasn't a lot for £20. The mains took another 40 mins and we're not that warm. Food good and young waitress did apologise for the delay. No refund given.

Although I have previously had good service and food here, I was very disappointed with my latest visit. We were booked in for 1.45pm, lunch, and arrived at 1.45pm. Upon arrival, the staff were too busy to talk to us or even greet us, so we stood and waited, feeling a little invisible. Just, "hello, I'll be with you in one minute," would have been enough. We were eventually greeted and shown to our seats after a five minute wait and then waited again, this time for 15 minutes before our server asked us if we were ready to order drinks. We ordered our drinks and food around 2.05pm and our drinks arrived ten minutes later but our starters arrived 25 minutes later at 2.30pm. Another 30 minute wait followed and our main course arrived at 15.02pm, we waited another 30 minutes after our mains for the dessert menus to be brought over, 15.30pm, and after another 15 minutes, asked for our dessert order to be taken, 15.43pm. Half an hour later, our desserts arrived and as we had been there two and three quarters of an hour already, we decided to ask for the bill rather than wait at 16.30pm. Although we had responded with, "yes," when asked if we would be paying by card and needed the machine when the server brought the bill, nothing more happened for 15 minutes. We decided to go to the bar to pay, where we could see our server busy serving drinks to customers at the bar! Another server asked if everything had been alright, and when we responded with, "not really," we did not expect to come for lunch and it be dinnertime before we left, she laughed! The food. The starters were fine, nothing spectacular but nothing to complain about either - although I was a little confused that my pate was sat on top of a spoonful of relish rather than the relish being served in a pot on the side. The main course was also fine, the pie of the day was a good choice and I would recommend. However, the desserts did not live up to expectations. The chocolate bomb shell was not white chocolate, more a blonde chocolate colour, but was tasteless - we all tried it. The creme brulee could not have been served in a shallower dish! All in all, the food was satisfactory, but the service was shocking! It was my birthday celebration and it took 3 hours to serve us lunch. We honestly felt invisible from the start and almost an 'inconvenience' to be requiring attention. Although we did not receive one smile with the service and service was painfully slow, one of the servers seemed to have plenty of time to 'flirt' and chat with two girls on a table nearby rather than be attentive to all customers. Looking around the room, and we had plenty of time to do that, it was evident that they were not 'busy' as half the tables remained empty throughout our three hour stay.

We really enjoyed our roast dinners & appreciated the offer of being moved to a quieter table as a large party was coming in. Overall the service was really friendly, & we would particularly like to mention Vicky who went out of her way to make sure we had a good visit.

Disappointed- not sure what has changed? Service was extremely slow (it wasn’t that busy). Nearly an hour to get starters. We gave up after the main course even though we would have liked to stay for dessert. Serving staff holding a hot plate with a tea towel passed it to one of us to set it down with bare hands (and it was very hot). Food was bland and not the high standard it has been previously. Really difficult to get the meat off the skewer. Please look at what has made things go downhill.

The fish and chips were awful,fish was over battered chips were just warm and tasteless.My granddaughter didn't eat her fish as not good. Waiter was not a great guy. NEVER WILL WE COME BACK.

Friendly service, but had to remind them to come and take our order, so overall it was a bit slow. Food was reasonable, a good selection and was reasonable value for money compared to other options locally. I reserved because the Vintage Inns website offered a £10 time-limited discount on the next visit but only in the small print (you had to click to read) did it say you had to use the code at least six hours after activating it. While not a massive point it was a disappointing end to the visit. M&B should consider removing that time limit.

Popped into The Fox House after a very wet and windy walk. We were made to feel very welcome by Vicky who made us THE best coffee, not to mention the fab flapjack. We soon dried out in front of the open fire. Will definitely return x

Visited with my two dogs after a walk and was welcomed with a smile. Was served by a lady called Michelle who said she had only been working there a couple of weeks but you could not tell! Served me quickly and made friendly conversation - she even provided treats for my dogs. I would definitely recommend for a cold beer after a countryside walk!

I telephoned the Fox House at 7.30pm on a Sunday evening as the hotel that we were staying in had no food! They were fabulous. We arrived within five minutes and ordered 4 Sunday roasts drinks and followed it by a pudding. Service and food were great. Michelle was lovely. Very accommodating and helpful. 10/10 to the team and 11/10 Michelle. Thank you for making our evening, Michelle. Never change. 🙂

Went out on a damp evening for a meal.. thought we might try the festive menu , but two courses each just felt like too much when we actually looked at the menu .. However, we both enjoyed our main course choices, and we were amiably served by Ryan , and had a couple of drinks and soaked up the easy going atmosphere. We've visited here many times before, and always enjoy the friendly experinece. Thanks to everyone{incl the capable chef], for a nice evening out , and especially to Ryan , who was attentive and fun.

I took my elderly parents for lunch, neither of them have big appetites anymore, they both wanted fish & chips but the portions were much too big so they were allowed to share one between them which we thought was marvellous! All the food was wonderful, I had mushrooms in a garlic sauce & the staff couldn't have done anymore to ensure that we all enjoyed ourselves. We shall certainly be visiting again, thank you!

One of the best pubs in Sheffield. Stopped by after a hike and was welcomed to a beautiful festive interior, warm fire roaring, with great ambience. Drinks are reasonable for the quality you get, and I will return to try their menu. Staff were fab and I wanted to stay longer!

Pre-booked dinner for 2 with a dog. Nice atmosphere and environment. Staff friendly. Food is over priced as nothing overly special. Ordered a mini pudding and hot drink and a coffee. Received pudding and coffee and in the end had to cancel the other hot drink as over 20 min wait. Luckily had a voucher for 50% off mains.
