The Fox at Shipley in South Staffordshire

Well I should have taken a photo but I was too hungry! I ordered a large turkey roast and my husband ordered a large all day breakfast. Food arrived piping hot on a hot plate and was delicious! Couldn’t find fault. It was extremely busy too so great service.

Meal was good but spoilt by annoying dogs barking

Walked in, staff were kind enough to find us a table after just a short wait. Food is amazing and service 5* Will definitely return.

This is an excellent pub, very accommodating, friendly and helpful. Lovely Sunday roast.

We spent about £100 here for food & drinks for the 3 of us and we definitely wouldn’t return to spend it again. Mixed grill - most of the meat was tough. Burger was over cooked and rock hard and dry around the edges. Childs Mac & cheese tasted awful, had a side of ribs and they looked like they had just been reheated in the microwave and were snotty and fatty.

Rump stake was very tough. I couldn't cut it. No stake knife was provided with the meal

On Sunday 4 May 2025 my family and myself decided to try the Fox, having heard good things about it. We were greeted very abruptly by a mature bland haired woman and told we would have to wait 1 hour if we wanted to eat, this was despite empty tables. We asked if we could be seated outside, she replied you can only have basket food, we asked how long was the wait for the terrace, she said half hour, so we said ok we’ll sit there, she flung the menus at us. Having waited 45 minutes, two children hungry, cold and upset, we decided to ask for a refund, the same woman miraculously found us a table, her very words being you’ll have to leave in 45 minutes we have another booking. This woman turned out to be the manager, she was rude, from observation she was bossy to other members of staff, unprofessional stomping around in a strop with attitude. Surly if you choose to work in hospitality you would at least be hospitable. The whole experience was awful, we won’t be going back. The atmosphere was chaotic thanks to her darting around like a headless chicken or should I say old hen and unfriendly.

Great pub, always have a good meal there. This time I had the mixed grill and the Eton mess sundae. Have to say the mixed grill is one of the best around.

Can't fault the fox every thing was bang on.

Good food and plenty of it!! nothing fancy but well presented and well cooked. Priced about right.

Not like it once was, used to be a great place, service was poor, we gave waiter our menu order, don't know what he done with it, when we asked he hadn't passed it to the kitchen. And dogs everywhere, most where ok, but we had a massive slobbering one, which was a put off. Won't be going back

Kids park and dog friendly. Steaks are great.

A good friendly pub with good food and a good menu. The pubs dog friendly which is great and has 3 garden centres next door which me and my family enjoy! There is also a kids park out front, this is a good pub i would definitely recommend.

Food as always excellent. Parking adequate but disabled spaces limited although marked as disabled they are not as big as should be expected but the are close to the building albeit by steps.

We visited on a Sunday for a roast, we were overly impressed with both the food and the service, so much so that we came back this evening for another meal, all the staff were absolutely outstanding especially Jodie who served us our food and Katie on the bar, despite being extremely busy on both visits they made it all seem like second nature. Hats off to the chef and the front of house, we’ll be back!

Proper pub grub!! Food was delicious and plenty to choose from. The staff were welcoming and friendly. We went in with our dog and the lady on the desk was very quick to bring out treats and water for her, which she loved and we really appreciated. Order and pay at the bar which we actually prefer so don’t have to mess about waiting!

Went this evening, a party of 6. My meal was fish pie. Only found one piece of fish, it was just melted cheese which was stuck to the dish. Complained but no comment was received. Also no towels or dryer on the toilet. When this was mentioned to the staff, the reply was 'yes we know' Will definitely not go there again.

Stunning food with an excellent range of choices on the menu. Dietaries catered for and the staff are knowledgeable too, which makes a huge difference. The place is really popular so booking is advised. We hadn't on this occasion and waited about 25mins, but it was definitely worth it!! Will definitely be back!

Great meal well cooked frendly staff

Came here for my 21st birthday meal with a few friends who recommended it to me, the food was amazing I had the homemade cottage pie and apple & blackberry crumble for afters and it was to die for! The staff were really friendly and even sung me happy birthday. Dogs are allowed in as well and the staff were really friendly towards them, they even got some treats.

Massive portion size, staff very welcoming and a pretty busy pub.

It was our first visit for our 55th wedding anniversary and it was such a nice atmosphere, the staff are very helpful and the food is amazing. We will definitely visit again soon and have already told family and friends what a lovely place it is.

We go as a fairly large group who don't arrive together, but the Fox keep the orders together until we tell them we have all arrived, when they come to the table and run through all the orders to check before sending them to the kitchen. This means that we are generally served within a very few minutes of one another. This works well for us. Staff are always helpful.

7 of us had a booking at 4pm on a Sunday, you have to book over the 📱 and order at the bar. Actually bette if you ask me. Menu is quite extensive and they don't mind making substitutions either. Staff are very friendly and happy to help. Can't wait to come back.

Had Sunday Lunch, food was very bland. The beef had zero flavour. Very expensive too. Wouldn't risk spending that much again for such a poor meal.

Lunchtime visit. We were seated in the corner with a wonky table. Food was average but two things we ordered were not available. Service was quick but one member of staff was surly. We were disappointed as we had always heard good things about The Fox.

Nice place to enjoy a lovely meal, there wasn’t much choice on the lunchtime menu (my opinion) but was more to choose from on the evening one. Meals were basic but enjoyable. Atmosphere was good, plenty of parking spaces but only two disabled. I didn’t see a ramp up to entrance only steep steps, but not saying there wasn’t one as I’m sure there is somewhere. Overall was good.

Great food and service, as always. Very accommodating for my sons 8th birthday.

Welcomed on arrival and quickly seated. Ordered food and waited about 25 mins which is good for a busy Sunday afternoon service. Food was very nice with no issues. Sunday dinners are massive so if you're a light eater may be better to go for a lite bite option. Overall, staff very friendly and food was good. Will return.

Takeaway Sunday Roast, either Turkey or Beef and range of Vegas etc. Collected at time agreed, and completed within a few minutes. Excellent value

Popped in for a light lunchtime drink and something to eat. A couple of ciders and a beef lasagne each hit the spot just the job great fast service and friendly staff. Food was tasty and the cider was very refreshing sitting outside in the 🌞 sunshine.

Came here with family - atmosphere was buzzing! Service was really friendly, they couldn't do enough to help you. It was great that we were able to have a tab at the bar as we were a large party. Food was absolutely lovely (I fitted in a dessert even though I was full!) and drink was good quality. I had a steak which I asked for medium rare - it came out perfect and I'm a fussy steak eater!! None of us had a bad meal which was great. Reasonably priced too - would highly recommend. We will be meeting family here again, that's for sure! Thank you for a lovely evening x
