WOW. What a wonderful Sunday lunch. Must be one of the best roast dinners we've ever had. The locally sourced roast beef was out of this world tender & so tasty. The mixed veg and cauliflower and brocolli gratin were exquisite. All this served with delicious roasties - to die for. We just love the welcome and friendly service in this comfy, traditional, cosy country pub. Thank you Alison, Molly and friends for making our Sunday lunch so exceptional. Be back soon. Five of us visited The Fox for lunch following a recommendation and we enjoyed a superb pub lunch. Choice of 3 well kept real ales, We had fish cakes and chicken ham and leek pie. Spoilt for choice on the desserts, I opted for the apple crumble and custard, and was not disappointed. Just left wondering how good the bread and butter pudding would have been. A perfect pub lunch, traditional, wholesome food served by a very personable Molly who added to our enjoyment.

First time here and won't be the last. Lovely old fashioned pub with outdoor seating, covered and uncovered. Warm welcome from the lovely lady behind the bar and we were doted on. Service was excellent. The difference in a trip out when people actually engage with you rather than just plop your food down. Grub was excellent and the low prices made it a double win. After our plans were postponed my boyfriend suggested we drive to Carlton as i had not been to the area before and stop at The Fox for a drink or two during the lunchtime. Situated in a sweet little village, we fell in love with the character of the pub with its thatched roof and cosy feel. We sat out in the garden and enjoyed our little time to relax and chat. Staff were friendly. We shall be back another day to sample the grub and we also learnt they have live music so count us in for that too!!

We booked in the morning as booking was recommended on the website. Good job we did, we got the last table. What a wonderful experience from beginning to end. Tried to book at 9am and left a message. Alison called me back and booked our table. We arrived to a very full car park (Wednesday lunchtime!) and asked Jade if it was alright to leave our car in a small space. She went to the car park and reassured us that it wasn't a problem. We already had a feeling of wonderful service. We weren't wrong. A warm, homely, family, traditional pub and a very friendly, kind and efficient welcome from Jade. The service was unbelievable and the food exquisite. All cooked to order. (Chips next to none) Marvellous value for money. Thank you Jade & Alison for a superb pub lunch we'll be back very soon with our friends. xx

My girlfriend and I visited after finding it in the 2018 Good Beer Guide and it was voted local CAMRA country pub of the year in 2016 and 2017. It was a snowy Sunday in January so perfect for visiting a pub for hot food and a couple of real ales. We'd booked a table in advance which thankfully was the last one available. There was a a choice of specials and a lunch menu menu offer which we both went for. Both the chicken and roast beef with roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were great and the two styles of vegetable sides really made for a great meal. We shared a bread and butter pudding for dessert which was nice too. The young staff and lady working behind the bar were very friendly and helpful. Both ales I had were in good condition, one I hadn't tried before (Fork Handles by Vale Brewery Co.) and the other a London Pride. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and enjoy real ale and/or good value food.

I'm not sure what the review by 'Nicki' about the beer festival is on about!! She's talking complete rubbish. I'm not local but make the effort to get over to this little gem of a pub as often as possible due to the friendly, relaxed and village feel it provides. The food is home cooked and delicious, the service is excellent as are the beers and the lady lady is lovely. I went over yesterday to the beer festival for a pint and a hog roast with my 5 year old daughter (coca cola) and had a lovely time. There was no cider left outside but a huge choice of real ales and plenty of cider available inside. As a non local I have never been made to feel unwelcome here, the complete opposite in fact! Popped in here on the way back from nearby Emmaus. Last visited this pub in the mid seventies when scampi and chips in the basket was all the range.Very impressed with the recent refurbishment and improved internal layout which has been completed to a high standard and very stylish. it was nice to see that the character has been retained with the old photos of Carlton. The owner, a lovely friendly lady, was happy to tell us about how the toilets had been moved and modernised and new windows put in. The food was superb from the 2 course menu with lots of choice. my salmon was delicious and my husband said his rare beef was the best he had tasted and he is very particular! All the vegetables were served really hot and the cheesecake very tasty. The waitress was friendly and attentive. There was a nice atmosphere in the pub and though the locals were enjoying the rugby there was no swearing or bad behaviour to spoil our meal ( unlike some other pubs ). Only minor negative ( not pubs fault) was that several customers couldn't bother to close the door behind them and one chose to smoke just outside the back door which was annoying with the door open.

We went here because the website said it was dog friendly in the bar. When we arrived there, however, a group was taking up the only table large enough for us to sit at so we were allowed to take the dog into the 'posher part' We kept him in the corner under the table and I doubt anybody noticed him.The food was obviously cooked fresh and the chips especially were very good. The fried egg on the ham, egg and chips was hard but that's the way it goes sometimes and for £4.99 I wasn't complaining. I had the burger and chips and this too was very good. Dad had the fish and chips and was not quite sure about the mushy peas - when Mum tried them she declared them as processed but Dad said they were ok he just thought they tasted a bit different. But again, at £4.99, it was lovely to have a clean, pleasant place to sit and have a decent meal. Definitely worth the money.

There is a lot of community spirit, that would easily be seen if you were to pop in on New Year's Eve. They had a DJ set, free nibbles, and the new year was bagpiped in by a local. On various occasions there are also live bands and entertaining beer festival.

Still a village local, and long may it continue to be. Nothing fancy, a bit worn at the edges, but full of charm that makes a British pub so special. Previous visits on a Saturday for a quick drink have found the place packed and buzzing. Not so lively on our most recent visit with a few stalwarts at the bar and a couple of others, like us also looking to quell their pangs of hunger. There appeared to be a restaurant, but it was not obvious if or when this was open. The bar menu was offered which promised the usual pub basics with sufficient variety to make mulling what to go for an excuse to order another well kept beer from the handpumps. My 'pie' was the infamous 'meatinnadish witha pastry roof', but it was hot served with decent chips and fresh veg. The missus' cod and chips received a "not bad". I'm sure we will be back!

Hand cut chips, the 'best roast potatoes' my husband has ever eaten and a tasty range of real ales! Food is simple and tasty and very well priced. The interior of the pub is traditional and not at all over styled and the garden is a lovely spot for a pint!

I've been to this pub a few times. They always have a great selection of real ales to choose from. Today, I had the DNA which I highly recommend to any real ale drinkers. We also had the Sunday roast which was just absolutely delicious! My son and I had the roast beef which was tender and cooked to perfection with Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings. They will do a child's portion if you ask which I find very good. My husband had the roast pork with crackling which was also delicious! The desserts were lovely as well. My son had the Lemon Meringue pie and I had the Treacle Tart with custard. Both were delicious! The staff were very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. At the end of our meal we were brought these absolutely fabulous homemade fox shaped shortbread biscuits! Really was quite impressed! :) We've also been in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon in the past and have also found the sandwiches and burgers very tasty. Highly recommend this pub. Great and non pretentious. Good old fashioned family pub!

We heard about The Fox when some friends bought a bungalow not far away and when we visited we all decided to try the pub for lunch. There was no menu but the owner brought one out for us and although everything seemed to come with chips we all chose something. I had the Ham, egg and chips as did one of the friends, my husband chose the sausage and mash and our other friend had fish and chips. As it was one of the friends birthday we ordered a bottle of wine which wasn't too expensive and settled in to chat while we waited for our food to arrive. The bar was filling up and everyone was ordering food. The Ciabetta sandwiches looked nice but also came with chips quite a few people were ordering this though. When our food arrived we tucked in and it was delicious. The sausage and mash was the best my other half said he had eaten for a long time. The ham was lovely and the two eggs that came with it were beautifully cooked. The chips were homemade too (no frozen ones here). The fish and chips looked really nice and were enjoyed by the birthday girl.We all had desserts and they were really good too although my husband said the ginger in the pear and ginger creme brulee was a little too heavy for his taste!! The apple crumble was superb and the custard delicious. We will definitely go back to the Fox and our friends said they would be frequent visitors when they had finished renovating their house.

This is an attractive thatched village pub with a small beer garden at the front, and it was good to see it almost full on a recent mid-week early evening visit, although it didn’t empty out a bit later on suggesting perhaps that many of the clientele pop in for a couple of pints before going home. Most of the punters seemed to be locals who knew each other or the landlady. It’s quite a small single room pub other than a restaurant area at the back, although this was in darkness when I visited. It has a fairly typical country pub appearance with a low beamed ceiling and the obligatory horse brasses dotted around. The flooring is a tartan carpet and there was a large brick chimney at one end which had a fox carved in to it. Seating options were limited with only five or six tables and a few bar stools. At the other end of the pub was a darts board and a table top (Northamptonshire?) skittles game along with a rolled up projector screen. I thought that was a bit out of place in this pub, but presumably it’s only pressed in to service for major sporting events. A small trophy cabinet and a few old black and white photo’s of the locale completed the interior furnishings. The food offering was a basic “pub grub” affair with options such as Haddock & Chips, Ham Egg & Chips, Burger, Sausage & Mash, etc., along with several ciabatta based choices. Most of the main courses were around the £7 mark although on a Wednesday they offer a few additional choices from a £5 set price menu. My Scampi & Chips did what it said on the tin. It was an ok dish, although the chips were somewhat soggy and overcooked. Overall I’d be happy to return and try something else though.Beers on tap were Eagle IPA, Tribute and Hurricane from the Buntingford Brewery. A fourth pump for Woodfordes Wherry appeared to have run out. The solitary cider was Aspall’s Suffolk.

We visited this pub for a meal on a Saturday evening. We had not eaten there before but the menus had a varied choice at a reasonable price. The menus really appealed as they were all chalk-written which indicated that the dishes may well be freshly cooked and not pre-packed warmed up rubbish. The dishes themselves were not the typical pub grub of scampi and chips, gammon and chips, chilli con carne etc. They seemed fresh and varied. We were shown into the adjoining dining room where we placed our order and eagerly awaited our first course. We were not disappointed - the starters were fresh, well presented, tasty and of a reasonable portion size. The main courses were even better – a homemade pastry topped pie with lovely light pastry. Likewise the fish main course was beautifully cooked. The homemade desserts finished the meal perfectly and used fruit from the local allotment. Drinks were reasonably priced and the service was very friendly and helpful. The chef and owner is clearly a well trained chef, it’s a shame that there weren’t more people dining that evening. The last review has been written by people who failed to stay long enough to taste the excellent food – their loss I’m afraid. The Fox was a lovely, quaint country pub and a welcome change from the big pub chains. We were so impressed that we returned on the Monday for an excellent ploughman’s lunch. Will definitely visit again!!

We were looking for a nice country pub for a drink and a bite to eat on a beautiful sunny day. There was nothing nice about this one. Outside seating looked like it had just been thrown randomly around garden, waiting to be used as fire wood. The entrance hall was covered in fag butts. Seating inside was less welcoming than the outside. Can't say whether the food was any good as we didn't stay to find out. I'm guessing it would have been prepared and served with the same 'couldn't care less' attitude that seemed to be applied to the pub environment.Oh, and it wasn't just us who walked out without even trying to get served - a family party of 6 who arrived at the same time as us exited just as quickly. Unbelievable that, as local pubs are fighting for their very existence, a landlord/lady can afford to be so disinterested in what could be a very sweet and idyllic watering hole.

It's great to see a pub that still is just that and not gone gastro. Website is understated, but we stopped there on Saturady after a delkightful walk to Stevington and back, and enjoyed an excellent pint of Charlie Wells Eagle, perfect simple sandwiches and ciabattas, and the warm easy welcome that you always expected from a pub.Well done The Fox - message to self - websites only tell half the story!

Being close-by in another local village I can't fathom why we never ventured to this pub restaurant before, having visited several times in the Summer for drinks??The owner, manager Alex was delightful. welcoming, accommodating to my fussy needs and flexible with her menus, no pretentious chef syndrome here!I booked online which was quick, easy and replied to politely and in a timely manner. The pub bar is warm, friendly and full of local villagers in the main who are very welcoming. There's a cosy fire but be warned we visited on a Friday night and the pub was busy but not over crowded, we managed to find a seat for us, having said that the restaurant was quieter, although I can't imagine why for such an undiscovered treasure in my opinion. There were two menus, one traditional and one specials. A good selection and variety cooked to order and mostly home cooked and fresh. A friendly wine list and welcoming, efficient staff made the entire evening very pleasurable. Alex took our orders herself which was helpful as I made a few small changes which she was more than happy to do without question. The food and atmosphere were lovely and for a very reasonable tarrif. We will return....now we know! Adds another one to our list of local favourites, thank you.

A lovely old-fashioned pub but well up to speed with coeliac needs. The Sunday lunch was delicious and I enjoyed gluten free Yorkshire Puds! What a treat! They even did separate gluten free gravy. Generous portions and good service. This was our second visit and we will definitely be back.

Really super little café. We stopped in for a slap-up breakfast and were not disappointed. Good coffee, great sausages and a friendly atmosphere. I'd definitely go back.
