Emily was our waitress today and she promptly served our drinks and took our food order which arrived quickly. Emily was courteous and professional throughout and is clearly a credit to the team at The Fox & Hounds.

Stayed overnight in the car park in a big group of Orange Campervans! Very well looked after - food for our evening meal was fabulous and had lovely bacon baps in the morning. Our dog, along with all the other dogs in the group, were welcomed and were well looked after, with snacks and water available at all times. Lovely pub with great service.

We came to celebrate our son's 40th Birthday. He has learning difficulties. He appreciated the warm welcome that we all received and the many smiles throughout the service. We felt valued and were not hurried in any way. The serving staff brought candles on desserts and sang Happy Birthday and this was a highlight of the meal for our son.

A great evening. We had the camembert as a shared starter, the bacon burger and then the sticky date pudding. All really well presented and tasted amazing. Emily was serving us tonight and was really friendly and helpful. If you get a chance to go, do.

Popped in the other night for a meal, quick to be seated, and order taken. The food was really good, couldn't fault it. Nice cosy pub, not many people in. There is a 10% service charge on the bill, I couldn't see what extra service I got for it, though. It's cheaper if you got your drinks before sitting down. 🤣👍

Went here for a birthday Sunday lunch with my extended family. All the adults had roast dinners and they were superb. One child had a burger and chips, she is a bit fussy regarding food and our server ensured that the burger came minus all the bits she doesn’t like. The toddler had fish goujons with chips, he loved them. Fantastic Bloody Mary’s, nice and spicy. Claimed my birthday reward as a loyalty club member and received £20 off our drinks. One member of my group joined the loyalty club there and then. She will definitely be back as I will.

We went for dinner at The Fox and Hounds. Emily our waitress was fantastic! We took our dog along and he was very welcomed. The staff made plenty of fuss of him (which he loved). Other dogs were in the pub too. They had plenty of treats available to give to the dogs too! The food was really nice and tasty. The menu had plenty of choice. Also a nice few options on the specials menu too. We (and the dog) will be going back again in the near future.

Un lugar perfecto para llevar a la familia a comer. Éramos once adultos con tres niños de 6 - 8 años. La mesa estaba lista para nosotros y las bebidas pedidos tomados tan pronto como llegamos. We absolutely loved our family lunch at The Fox & Hounds and Maddie and the team were fantastic! We were a large group of 14 with children included and a dog. The service was slick and extremely pleasant and the everyone enjoyed their food. We will definitely be coming back.

A quick meet up lunch at the Fox and Hounds. Good food, friendly staff, shout out to Emily, who was extremely helpful and even made some time for Ted our Labrador, definitely a relaxed dog friendly pub, we saw so many there of all shapes and sizes!

Emily was very friendly and a good laugh, my dad said it was the best fish and chips he’s had in his entire and trust me, that’s a long time.

We happened across The Fox & Hound purely by accident, but what a happy one! A very traditional looking village pub in-line with Home Counties traditions, we were delighted by the sympathetic yet modern interior, the abundance of space (no tables jammed in for profit here) and the incredibly friendly staff. Being a Butcombe pub I was pretty much in love instantly but, being valentine’s night, shyed away from youthful exuberance and settled comfortably for dinner and some vino. The food was wonderful. I could niggle about a few things - curry sauce is a bit thin and the mushy peas aren’t mushy - but these are subjective so ignore me if you wish. On the plus side, everything (apart from the ice cream) appeared from the on-view kitchen piping hot and delicious. We were served by a very personable and at time hysterically funny young lady called Emily. Best service I’ve had in a while and thoroughly enjoyable. Will we be back? Well, what do you think?!

Love the food and service. Always very friendly and helpful staff. Very dog friendly with a great beer garden. The pub decor, tables and different areas are well presented too. An all-round winner in our eyes

Really very disappointed with the buttermilk fried chicken burger, the waitress did mention when I ordered it that it was chicken thigh rather than breast, which in hindsight was clearly a warning. I said that was fine as long as it wasn't slimy. After the fried coating was removed the thigh skin was slimy and the amount of edible non chewy chicken extremely limited, so I left the bulk of it. I did mention it to the waitress and said it was an odd cut of meat to serve in a burger and she agreed. I think it clearly is a poorly though out cost cutting exercise, given the price of the meal, it would be a hard no from me to go back there. If there had been the offer to change it for another meal, or even offer a free drink or dessert that would have been a least something.

Great dog friendly pub, food is always excellent, service too. Chris and the rest of the team are always friendly and attentive. Emily looked after us on our most recent visit and she was great, we have also been looked after by Maddie, she is always very helpful and friendly providing brilliant service. Highly recommended.

We visited here on Sunday for a roast dinner and it was the best roast we have had at a pub . Could not fault it, highly recommend the desserts too. Thankyou we will be back again soon 😊

An excellent pub efficiency run with attentive staff. A wide menu choice of really tasty food. Very popular, so best to reserve a table to avoid disappointment. But equally a cosy setting if you just fancy a meetup with friends for drinks. A good summer venue with it's outdoor seating.

Nice pub and food good qquality. Service could just be a little better especially as they add a service charge on. Ask the customer if the food is ok and also if drinks are low or running out don't leave it to the customer to try and flag down a waitress to get more drinks. Also clear the plates away and don't leave them on the table for ages after.

Good food good company served by Emily

We had an excellent meal and the pub has a lovely feel and even though the pub was very busy, on a Tuesday lunchtime, Maddie and the other staff were helpful, cheerful and friendly! We had Sausages & Mash; Avocado, Bacon & Blue Cheese Salad; Cod Fishcakes, leeks & Hollandaise Sauce. All were very tasty & presented well. Only tiny niggle was that the fishcakes main was a lot smaller portion than the other mains. The pub is very dog friendly with a water and treat station near one of the entrances. I would definitely go back and this is our 3rd visit.

Came here with my family for lunch on a Saturday. The food was ok but pricey for the standard. Marked down on service as my wife overheard the waiting staff gossiping about us as we were leaving.

On the expensive end, especially for weekday lunch, bit was good quality, and the service was good.

Somos estadounidenses en Reading dejando a nuestra hija por un semestre en Uni of Reading. Queríamos llevarla a un lugar agradable que podría ser más difícil para ella llegar por su cuenta. Fuimos desde Reading en nuestro coche de alquiler y fue fácil de encontrar con la ayuda de Waze. Nos pareció deliciosa la comida, el ambiente encantador y amable y el servicio excelente. Teníamos el eglefino con patatas fritas y la hamburguesa de pollo frito con suero de mantequilla. Las porciones eran amplias y cocinadas a la perfección. Marido disfrutó de su cerveza. Los precios fueron moderados. Muy recomendable.

They were able to cope with 40 of us for our annual club dinner very efficiently and attentively by very friendly staff. We ordered a few days in advance and everyone got what they asked for and were more than happy with it. Excellent Butcombe ales - including a tasty draught low alcohol IPA.
