The Fox in Dover

Impromptu mid week lunch and so glad we went to The Fox. Excellent food and service with the added bonus of view out to sea. We chose Tapas, squid, chilli garlic prawns, cheese and ham croquettes and Serrano ham, fig and walnut bruschetta. Ordered mozzarella and garlic bread that was yummy too. Pudding, lemon posset with fruit. Can’t fault the food at all. Service with a smile. Really unexpected quality for the cost. Can’t recommend enough. 🦊 ❤️

We enjoyed a fine meal, friendly, attentive staff. Excellent ambience. Great views of Deal Sea Front. Will go again. Well done.

Went in was seen to a table, wait or cleaned the table spraying all the cleaning cutlery with cleaning spray. Took ages to be served. Totally different menu to the one in the window. Burger and chips was disgusting chips tasted like they had been fried over and over again and were cold. The burger was so over cooked and hard & so was the bun, sent chips back and got a fresh lot but had no taste ate the burger as I was hungry because we waited 45 mins. There is zero atmosphere in this place & the 2 waiters working were uninterested , we told the waiter we wasn’t happy with our meals and all he said was oh sorry about that and walked off. Would definitely avoid this place! Oh and male & female toilets all in together.

Have eaten here twice over last 3 weeks, dinner and also lunch. Both really good. Tasty food, a varied menu choice, friendly service. We will be regular visitors

I am sorry to say the meal was poor. I took my son and grandson as a treat before Christmas and we were all very disappointed. I will never go back. The staff were not that interested and Italian food shouldn't be too difficult to make tasty but it wasn't even remotely decent ( as it is an italian restaurant!) the coffee machine was out of order and had been so for over 2 weeks - did they not have one they could borrow? Everything was a disappointment but my son insisted on paying and even left a tip! Please look at what went so wrong - you have a wonderful view and this could be a very special place.

Firstly, the waitress (working alone) was doing her utmost in clearly difficult circumstances, it is not easy to do this job when you are not given the appropriate tools. Only instant coffee available - which was very disappointing. We then waited 50 minutes for the breakfast, which when it came was "ok" apart from the fact that the toast looked like it had been cooked with a hairdryer, and sadly was mouldy, which is inexcusable. Egg shells were also present in the poached eggs. Overall, a poor experience and would not rush back, however a shout out to the waitress who was polite and clearly trying her hardest with no help.

Very good mains. Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese and Penne Con Pollo. Both were very tasty. Would happily go back based on these. Desserts were a little underwhelming. The toffee sundae was ok but the Bailey’s Banana Trifle was a big disappointment. Too much whipped cream and not much else. Apparently it had brownie chunks but I didn’t find them. It lacked that oomph and body - trifle is definitely not how I’d describe it. The syrup just stuck to the glass and was basically unreachable, partly due to the terrible spoons that don’t fit the sundae glasses. Staff polite and amiable. Did say they’d pass on my comment re: dessert to the chef. Almost charged for another tables meal but this was a mistake, caused by a WiFi blip, and quickly rectified. We will go again, because we enjoyed the mains. Maybe try a starter rather than dessert.

Absolutely fantastic the food was amazing. The breakfast was so good we went back for lunch and we weren’t disappointed. The carbonara was the best we had had by a mile. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

Not bad but needs tweaking. Visited last week with family, our starters turned up. I had Calimari which was lovely, my mother the fox board again lovely and brother a prawn dish which again was great. When it came to the mains my mother mentioned to the server that was not a fan of Chilli so may pick something else, on which his reply was “don’t worry we make all our dishes fresh so we can do yours without” On serving the dishes turned up, I had the pulled pork, don’t get me wrong it was nice but for £22 I would have expected fresh pulled pork (not out of a packet) and freshly cooked onion rings etc again not premade frozen. Unfortunately guys being a Chef I can tell the difference! I’m not overly bothered as was nice but I would suggest tweaking the price or product! Unfortunately for my mother when the dish turned up it contained Chillis so although tasty was spoilt but the fact she had asked for them not to be in it as they over powered the overall taste. With this we let slip as wasn’t going to let it spoil the evening by a few minor issues. Next came our biggest issue! On desert before even looking at the menu we specifically asked “ have your dishes any nut products?” As my brother has a severe allergy to point in which it could kill him! The server kindly asked the chef to which on his return stated “NO, non of our dishes contain nuts!” In the meantime we had read the menu and seen one contained Nutella- so our response was - oh apart from…. That dish! Slightly embarrassed we got a oh yes that one has 🙄 “OK we replied - well are you sure then that no other dishes contain nuts??”” “Err I’ll check again with chef” “Ok” “Apologies for that but no, no other deserts contain nuts!” Our response was ok as long as your certain we will order the bannana with baileys desert as long as you can ensure no nuts!! “Yes no problem. Here’s where the issue again arose. Deserts came out! I had ordered the same dessert as my brother. Server - “hi sir here’s your dessert, Baileys bannana sundae with Pistachio sauce 🥜” Errrrrrrr ….. what!!!! “Oh but your brothers don’t have the pistachio sauce!” Tell you what cancel his blooming desert order!! Not good guys!! To cut this short this was not good! You could have basically killed someone, even the smell of nuts can cause anaphylactic shock! I felt for the server as he was very good! But the chef in my opinion should be sacked!! If they can’t tell the difference between ice cream and a nut they arnt worth the paper - save yourself a law suit. Make sure your allergen list is up to date and they know it! Sorry to be the barer of a sad review but this needs addressing before the dreaded happens! - (Read the Prett Story)

Filthy dirty paper menus weren't a great start. Waited ages for starters, don't know why because they weren't hot. No plate or finger bowl for messy fingers after prawns ,and don't serve mussels with broken shells when there are only 4 on the plate. Girl at front of house really struggled to show any interest in serving us. Turned potential customers away at the door saying shut from 3 to 5 when it was only 2.30. Really disappointed, won't be returning . Food was OK, but that isn't always enough

Came for an evening meal, had a great pizza. Back again for breakfast, which was genuinely excellent. Sea front view made it extra special.

Went for an evening meal, wasn't sure if we should have booked but was plenty of space. We sat down but had to move table as very cold with the air con on in the middle of the ceiling blowing on us. The next seat was ok but still a bit cold so kept our coats on throughout the meal. The food was ok, service a tad slow, and olives arrived same time as food. Also it was half olives and half gherkins , so just as well as both liked gherkins. The salad was very large for one person as a side salad , but will say a nice choice of items in the salad and was noted that I didn't want tomatoes. There wasn't a nice salad dressing to go on it unfortunately, I did ask and was bought balsamic vinegar and oil. Apart from eating in a cold restaurant. I did not like the unisex toilets. I found the whole styling of the place strange it looked more like a ladies hairdressers with all the colourful fake flowers etc, than what the restaurant is named. Apart from a very bright neon sign saying the fox, which I had to look down from as in my eye line when looking up. I just could not see any other reference to a fox which I found a bit odd. Maybe some nice fox pics All in all I am not sure if I would make a return visit at present. Not saying never. I hope reading some of the comments which are not meant to be horible, more constructive will be helpful. It's early days so maybe a few tweeks here and there will help see it from a customers point of view.
