The Fountain Inn in Forest of Dean

We were staying at Whitemead Forest Park and went to the Fountain Inn for dinner on two evenings. WE didn't take our dog with us although the pub welcomes dogs in the bar area. We had to book 24 hours in advance for both evenings and it is nice to see the pub being so popular. The welcome when we entered was warm and welcoming, and after ordering drinks we were shown to our table. Food service was very good with friendly staff. We had spring rolls, bruschetta, pork tenderloin, steak, moules, whisky chicken and chicken and mushroom pie. All were really good with portions that were generous. On our second night there were three menus: Valentines, Main and £10 Winter Warmer. What was so good was that we could mix and match from any menus, and the menu prices were sensible. Overall a nice place to spend an evening with good food and drink and friendly service.

We popped in for a drink after a long walk and ended up staying for lunch as the place smelled delicious! Was quite busy ( a good sign) & staff said it was fine to sit at a bigger table despite only the 2 of us. Very dog friendly & brought over a bowl of water for him. All of waiting staff were friendly and helpful. Food was hot , plentiful & good selection of choices. Very reasonably priced.

Lovely pub. Warm and comfortable. Was very busy but we had a table without booking. Friendly staff. Lovely good value food. We would go again but just visiting the area.

Beautiful pub would recommend that you book very busy. The waitress was lovely and her wise advice was most welcome. We had cheesy Garlic bread and a Bruschetta to start then a Whisky Chicken with veg and a beet madras curry and rice with a nice bottle of wine everything was tasty and perfect. We then went into the bar and enjoyed a great evening with the fantastic staff and entertaining locals. Add all this and decent prices you won't go far wrong paying a visit.

Great quality food. Plenty of choice. My Daughter absolutely LOVED the lemon posset. Fantastic service. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Spotlessly clean too. We’re visiting the area over the New Year and we were so impressed, we ate at the restaurant 2 nights in a row! They even managed to squeeze us in following a last minute cancellation on New Year’s Eve. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Went here for a girly Christmas get together. From the moment we walk in the door we were made very welcome. The pub had a lovely friendly atmosphere and all of the staff were a delight. The food was fantastic and the prices were reasonable. Thank you for enabling us to have such an amazing evening. We will be back individually and collectively I'm sure.

Lovely warm welcome fire alight so nice and warm food was very good would of had starter or pudding but nothing really appealed which was a shame

A very warm welcome for us last night (3/9/24) with help for my daughter who uses a wheelchair, the lady had no issues with putting a ramp out for her. Our two dogs were also welcomed and they slept (mostly) well under the table. The food was really good quality and the rump steak was excellent, well seasoned and a great cut of meat. Friendly atmosphere with lots of dog owners enjoying themselves, The staff were excellent as well and nothing was too much trouble. Well worth a visit in my opinion

We enjoyed an excellent family dinner (for 22 of us!) to celebrate our Mum's 80th birthday. Michelle and her staff were so welcoming and efficient. We chose our meals in advance and everyone agreed the food and service were absolutely perfect; as ordered, delicious and very good value too. The chocolate dessert was exeptional! We would highly recommend this family-run pub especially if you are staying at the nearby Whitemead Forest Park.

We were staying in the area for a few days and this was within walking distance of our accommodation. We booked the bank holiday Monday, which was our wedding anniversary and it turned out to be ‘steak night’, which turned out to be great value. There was an extensive menu aside from the steak option but we both opted for that and we weren’t disappointed. Our meals were very tasty and the service was very good too. What a great find this was.

WOW! me & my boyfriend came here for food for a date night and it was absolutely incredible.. not only was the food just delicious but the customer service here is perfect. staff always happy to help and always smiling, the friendliest people !! 🫶🏻 not to mention the atmosphere here is also so cozy and welcoming. just the most perfect little pub really!!! couldn’t recommend it more x

I've eaten in places before now where the staff are either abrupt, surly or just don't seem interested in their customers, and no matter how nice the food may be, it spoils my meal. The friendliness of the staff at the Fountain Inn make it a great place to dine, so along with the lovely food here, it's definitely one I'd return to if I'm in this area again.

We were on our way to our holiday and taking a slow but scenic drive to get there. The Sat Nav found the Fountain Inn so we stopped for lunch. The Fountain has many items of railway and, including some seriously large spanners, photos etc. Parkend is one end of the Dean Valley Heritage railway. We only had sandwi he's and a drink sandwiches looked expensive but in really were good value for money. The staff were friendly and polite I can't remember any designated bays for disabled parking. All in all a very pleasant experience. If we are in the area again we would revisit.

Excellent Sunday lunch. After recent experience at Inn on the Wye I was reticent about dining out again. Faith restored. Good service happy staff organised and friendly. Food was excellent and generous portions. Thank you a true reflection of honest description and what was provided. Definitely will go back and recommend

Stopped for a quick drink and some chips after the train ride staff were pleasant and chips was tasty. We sat out the front and all the locals were friendly. The toilets down stairs could be tricky for many.

Attender for a a family Sunday lunch . Good service , good food, good prices . If we are in the area again we will return as we all enjoyed it.

After a walk round Mallards Pike we stopped here for lunch. We both had a light lunch. Chicken Goujons and Baked Camembert with a side of chips and onion rings. All that was an ample meal, unusual , well cooked and beautifully presented. Staff were very friendly and efficient AND the pub was dog friendly. Highly recommended.

Very good food served in a warm and friendly atmosphere which was very reasonably priced. 3 courses for 3 people with a bottle of wine and a pint of lager shandy for just over £100. Would certainly go again.

Met friends for lunch in the Fountain Inn today. Staff were very attentive and had our table all ready for us. They even got us a bowl of water for the Dogs. The food was absolutely delicious and served promptly. Will definitely go back.

Fabulous overnight stay, with delicious breakfast. Comfortable and cosy room, very clean. We also had dinner which was superb - varied menu at very reasonable prices and a well stocked bar. We would highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Fabulous evening meal for 17 of my close family & friends. 24/10/2023. Lovely meals for all of us (especially the vegetarian options) All the staff were incredibly cheerful, friendly & helpful. Ps - the Butty Bach was great.

We stayed for one night, but would have happily stayed for longer. Our room was clean; the beds comfortable; the shower powerful with lots of hot water; soft, absorbent towels; and high quality toiletries. After a very good night's sleep, our pre-ordered breakfast was first-class - fresh fruit and juice, delicious hot cooked eggs, bacon, sausage, black pudding and mushrooms, toast and excellent coffee. We could have ordered a continental breakfast and that looked as good. Add to this, friendly and helpful staff.

We keep Coming back and as always the food and staff are excellent, definitely need to book as it was very busy. I opted for fish and chips and hubby had the tarragon chicken and it was not as issue to swap potatoes for chips.

They were busy tonight. Couldn't get the kitchen to cook me dinner. They were fully booked with people tonight. But that didn't stop them from giving me a great welcome and friendly service.

Called to book at the last minute and managed to get a table outside, which suited us and our dog. The landlady was super helpful and very friendly, as were all the other staff members. We were made to feel like welcomed and valued guests. Great choice on the menu as well as a specials board. I had several vegetarian options and the Chickpea Tagine that i chose was delicious. I was even too full for desert ! We will definitely return, but will book in advance, to ensure a table because this is obviously a popular choice with locals and holiday makers

We used this pub as a stop on a walking route through the forest , despite a slightly " worn " exterior this is a smart , tidy and very welcoming hostelry. Super local ales and large portions of interesting meals and snacks. Great.
