Recently visited the Forester when visiting family locally. Sampled both the lunch and dinner menu’s. Food on both occasions were consistent and delicious, good variety on the menu. Incredibly warm welcome, quick and incredibly friendly service from both the manager Debbie and her staff. Cosy atmosphere, locals very welcoming. If we were local we would be here regularly. Thank you team for a wonderful visit

We went out to the Forester when the previous management were there and quite enjoyed it. But what on earth has happened since they've gone??? Beautiful village and attractive country pub, but dark and dingy bar area, no atmosphere and very average pub food. Friends went out for a late lunch yesterday only to discover the chef had walked out...Great article in the Daily Echo last week, but that interior photo used by the Echo wasn't even inside the Forester... Very odd. One to avoid for us now I'm afraid 😢

I was part of a large family party on Sunday lunchtime and had an unfortunate accident, falling down the stone steps….. I cannot praise the staff more highly for their concern and Nick in particular who went above and beyond helping me… a huge thank you Nick! In spite of the fall ,We all had a most enjoyable gathering and lunch . Could I just make a few suggestions in the interest of others with a disability enjoying their visit to The Forester..… A front flat accessible entrance, disabled toilet and a few chairs with arms. Thank you so much for giving me this window of opportunity. With best wishes Moya Botterill

For those of us who have known this pub for twenty years or more, it is a pale shadow of its former self. The food is honest enough but entirely unspectacular. The specials board seemed to add little but more burgers. Atmosphere is a bit naff now with all year Christmas lights, but the staff are friendly and efficient. Part of a small pub chain, it offers what one might expect but nothing to hurry back to.

Been to the Foresters many a time for Sunday lunch and the food has always been decent. However today the Sunday lunch was poor. Veg was a mixture of over and under cooked. The pork belly was awful, consisting of just a blob of fat with a piece of meet the size of an oxo cube.

Yum! Have left the Forester feeling extremely happy with our Sunday dinner! £18.99 for one meat or £21.99 for two meats and trimmings. It was a very generous portion and very tasty (aside from the stuffing which was a bit dry and chewy). The cheesecake was presented beautifully too. The two workers (a young girl and a guy) were the only two serving today and they did a smashing job! Hospitality is stressful at the best of times but these two remained professional and made us feel very welcome! Only cons - you could definitely have some handlebars in the toilets for older people who struggle with mobility. The stuffing could be a lot moister! Aside from that, it's very good value for money in a lovely country pub, with great service. Would definitely recommend. :)

Whilst visiting family, who live in Shaftesbury ,we decided to book for Sunday lunch. Luckily we pre booked. This lovely historic pub was very busy. 3 starters followed by 4 mains. My brother had ham egg & chips ( typical Sunday fayre) my sister the stuffed chicken whilst my husband had the belly pork and I had the small roast chicken. Portions were generous so who knows how big the normal size Sunday roasts would be. We had a lovely welcome from an extremely busy Ronnie. Served also by a very pleasant young waiter, whist Jonathan brought us our wine. Silly question what size?? Only comes in large I thought!. Certainly no room for dessert. The setting is quintessential rustic England with beautiful views. The pub quirky and interesting. The staff, though very busy, we're attentive and welcoming. We all had a lovely time and enjoyed the flavoursome food. Definitely well worth a visit and we will return.

Very picturesque pub with several areas to either enjoy a drink or have a meal. We went in the week so it was quite quiet and the landlord was running the place on her own, with her husband somewhat sozzled and chatting everyone up. The food was great - we both ordered from the blackboards so check those out - the other customers were friendly, and it was pretty easy to get to apart from the last 50 meters or so was a tiny single lane road. But there's plenty space to park once you get there.

What a fantastic place. I visited the Forester with my parents and my German partner (this was her first trip to UK). This was my first time back in UK in nearly 5 years. We went on Sunday for a roast which was superb, so much so that my partner and I decided to sign up for their James Bond themed live entertainment night on Wednesday. Wednesday was absolutely sensational!!! We were laughing and dining for 3 hours straight and we honestly couldn’t find a single fault! We enjoyed the food, the pub, the entertainment and the staff so much that we are planning to fly back over in October for another entertainment evening with Ronnie and Johnathan (Landlady/lord). It is a lovely house in the English countryside. Nice decor and ambience. Unfortunately it was our first time there and we were treated as foreign, sat all alone in a separate dinig room, while all the rest were in another dining room with plenty of available tables. I am sure it was not intentional but it looked weird. Very stiff waiter and not making us welcomed. Average food, average presentation, nice owners, but not enough in my humble opinion. Took my Dad out the day before fathers day to this lovely pub. Firstly, the service. What a lovely team! There were two chaps working and as soon as we walked in the door we were greeted cheerily by both. They were very attentive, smiley and chatty for the whole of our stay. I don't usually leave tips these days as restaurants seem to have lost that personal touch but not here - these guys well deserved one from me! Even the chap who took my booking over the phone sounded lovely and cheery! The atmosphere was very chilled and relaxed. Even at the start when there was us and one other table there was still a lovely vibe somehow. We sat in the bar area where there were low ceilings and twinkly lights. The pub has lots of little areas and is so much bigger that it appears! The food was lovely. I wouldn't say out of this world but most definitely pleasant. I opted for the pork fillet which was smaller than I expected (I cant imagine fillet is cheap though so I understand) and a little more cooked for me personally but, the peaches with the teriyaki sauce just.....worked! My Dad had the liver which was of a good size and he said was very nice. We were naughty and had puds as well! Dad had the choc and Courvoisier cheesecake which he was very impressed with (he has chefed in his time) he loved the fact it came individually and not sliced. It was super light and had a good kick of booze (I wish I'd had it 🤣). I had the hazelnut brownie. I was only a little disappointed as I couldn't taste the hazlenut but my word, if you like a rich, dense brownie then this is for you! A good chunk smothered in chocolate sauce with some very tasty vanilla ice cream. I'm not big on chocolate so it was a tad too rich for me but don't worry, I ate it all! Price wise pretty reasonably. Desserts are maybe a tad more than some places but generally speaking pretty standard. We had 2 mains, 2 desserts and 2 alcoholic pints and it came to roughly £65. Would I come again? Without a doubt! I know my Dad has already spoken with his Wife about visiting together! Thank you Foresters!

Inside the atmosphere and ambience soften the customer from the daily grind, complemented by the welcoming landlord and landlady. Eating and drinking here is a delight, the food is very good and filling, you won’t go away hungry. Intruded on our meal demanding knowing where we had been as well as what we we're doing. Insisted on standing talking at us for us for at least 20 minutes. Lovely welcome by great staff and really attentive throughout the meal. Ordered the mixed roast...... and wow👌 Honestly one of/if not the best roast we've had!!! The pork is to die for!!! Lamb and beef also lovely....and not thin slices Good selection of vegetables which were cooked perfectly! The Forester is a really comfortable, well furnished pub/restaurant in a very pretty part of the world. The range of food on the menu is huge and cooked in an unashamedly English country tradition but to a very high standard. I had Liver and bacon, with bubble and squeak and perfectly steamed greens were tied together with a red wine gravy that you would expect to pay a lot more for. Two of our party had the 2-course 'light lunch' option for £15.99 which was excellent value, featuring dishes from the full menu in slightly smaller portions, and cooked to the same high standard. Friendly and efficient service on top of all of this, we will definitely be returning....

My wife and I had a last minute hankering for a Sunday roast and managed to get a table at The Forester’s at short notice. Early table (12:00) so no issues over availability and quickly seated with drinks order taken. We have always found Jonathan, Ronnie and the team attentive with good service being our normal experience here. The roast dinners were magnificent, generous portions with plenty of meat (1 duo of beef and lamb & 1 single lamb) that was melt in the mouth tender with proper gravy. Veggies were crisp, fresh and cooked just right and with great crunchy roast potatoes. Would not hesitate to return as feel that the service, quality of the food and its preparation all give great value for money. Can you find cheaper, yes…but you won’t get the quality on your plate as you do at The Forester.

Went to this pub as the menu online showed several vegan options. Chose the vegan lasagne. Was then told this is supposed to be off the menu but they haven’t updated it. Chose the vegan Thai curry as the only other option. Waited 45 minutes to be served. Curry arrived. Was not as described. Just lots of pepper in a creamy sauce (suspect no vegan cream after this experience!). We were also forgotten about in a corner table so service was very slow throughout! A pretty poor experience.

Seven of us visited for Sunday lunch. The experience from start to finish was horrendous. Firstly, we arrived at 12:30 and we were all looking forward to a nice beef roast but the beef was not on the menu that day. They had beef brisket but they were not willing to put the beef brisket on the roast menu so between us we settled for lamb, pork and chicken. The lamb was so fatty it was unedible the pork was better but nothing which warranted 25 pound per a roast. The rest of the roast wasn't any better it consisted of a few spring greens and three bland roast potatoes. All 7 of us decided to comment. Clearly we were not listened too and the waitress literally said I don't care about your meat because I'm a vegetarian. So we tried another waitress who then said we could have two free desserts baring in mind, this was between seven people. The lead booker didn't fancy the dessert so I said could she have a glass of wine instead and unbelievably the bill came at the end and they charged for the wine the person who did have their dessert said it was very poor and tasteless and to end all matters. Throughout the meal we did not get offered water once we had to ask for every drink and when the drinks did come, they were just placed at the far end of the table rather than to the person who ordered the drinks . I would avoid at all costs you would get a better roast and service at your local wetherspoons.

We stayed for a couple of nights here. The room was really spacious and the bed comfy. Good ensuite with shower. The full English breakfast was really tasty. And the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a main meal as well. That was very good. They were able to accommodate my dairy intolerance. There were a few vegan options on the menu as well. A fab place to have a drink as well. Apparently the roasts are really special there. But we weren't there on a Sunday...just have to go back! It is dog friendly as well. Wardour Castle is nearby. Saw that on our last day.

Had a disappointing experience at The Foresters due to poor management in the absence of Ronnie and Jonathan. The fire alarm sounded during our rare meet-up, adding chaos to the situation. On top of that, the lemonade syrup had run out, making the drink unpleasant. I recommended The Foresters to my friends, but the experience left me embarrassed. Asked for the drink to be removed from the bill, as suggested by a friendly lady serving us. However, the guy at the bar was extremely rude, refusing to address the issue and even rejecting cash payment. It's a shame because the lady was lovely and understood the situation, but the overall experience has left me with no intention of returning.

A great pub. You get a warm welcome as soon as you enter. Food delicious, all home made, with plenty of choice, dogs welcome and the atmosphere is perfect. Prices are realistic and not stupidly expensive. Highly recommended.

Enjoyed a fabulous visit to The Forester with friends this evening (Saturday 13th January). The food was exquisite (I had the beef and pancetta cottage pie and the cheesecake), the menu catered for the vegetarian/vegans in the group, and the general ambience was friendly and welcoming. This was my second visit to The Forester and I’ll definitely be back.

The building it's self is lovely! But if you don't mind preheated and premade also salty food also over priced ... Then is is the place to go! It's not a drinking pub it's a food pub. Some people enjoy the land lord and lady having a good old chat with the costumer's but others would just like to go for a quiet meal!

Found this place on Google Maps, after fortunately not being able to get a table at Gritchie’s airfield and we were the winners! We chose the celery, apple & mustard soup and mushrooms on sourdough to start, followed by venison casserole and lambs liver with bubble and squeak on a bed of greens, with a red wine gravy. Delicious. No room for dessert but we will be back to try the 2kg tomahawks (if we remember to book 5 days ahead). It was a pretty quiet Tuesday In November but apparently all specials are half price on a Wednesday, which is incentive enough. I don’t understand others’ comments about it being hard to find, as admittedly the single lane tracks with grass growing in the middle were hairy, but Google Maps’ directions were straightforward and took us straight there. The pub dates back to the 1600’s and the chatty landlord regaled us with his stories of numerous encounters with the resident friendly ghosts. Definitely recommend.

I have stayed one night here and enjoyed a couple of meals. The room was clean and modern, very spacious and on two levels. Slightly difficult for me in that regard, so please check before booking if this will meet your personal requirements…however the owner was lovely and allowed me a late checkout as I wasn’t very well on the day of departure. The bar and restaurant are delightful, traditional and full of character. Great attention to detail on the decor e.g. vintage books in the alcoves which you can also read if you ask nicely! There is a large garden at the back of the pub and also a smaller courtyard on the quiet roadside this is a great place to have a relaxed drink of a summer’s evening … Food is tasty and very generously portioned. I enjoyed a late breakfast one day, and Sunday lunch on another occasion: I spoke to a very helpful person initially who helped find a suitable table for eight people, with access requirements for my disabled mother. They were also very adaptable as we had to change the time and the guest count twice! Ultimately had a really enjoyable lunch, good choice of different roasts with all the trimmings. No GF Yorkshire puddings but some desert options available. The service was perhaps a little slower than usual, but that’s to be expected on a busy Sunday lunchtime slot: TIP: book a later lunch slot if you can! Overall happy with the experiences I had and would come back anytime :))

Second time coming here, first time for a Sunday lunch, it was brilliant. Staff couldn't have been more helpful, attentive, smiley (even though they were super busy) and coped with our foodie questions brilliantly. We all (four) had the roasts - two opting for children's sizes as wanting room for pudding - clever them, as the portions are generous, no messing about here, this is proper food, perfectly cooked, plenty on the plate. Lovely roast potatoes, fresh and appetising vegetables, gravy TDF (more asked for and immediately brought), and the roasts were delicious. I had the two-mix together lamb & pork (greedy!), the others chose the pork. Two had enough room for puddings, which they loved. Just THE perfect Sunday lunch. Thank you for giving us such a great time with you. All best wishes :-)

We had dinner on Saturday night and have been to the White Horse quite a few times as we live locally but this time unfortunately, the food wasn’t that good. The staff were lovely but we were not impressed with the quality of steaks we had, also the chips on one meal were not cooked through. I had panna cotta for dessert and it was dry and bland. Overall we were disappointed. The bill for 3 people was around £146 and so we felt the food could have been much better. In the interests of fairness; one of our party ordered haddock and they did enjoy that.

I have experienced very unpleasant customer service at Culture Coffee when I went with my friends for a coffee and cake for my birthday. I have asked for cappuccino with a little bit of cream brûlée, making sure to specifically ask for only a little bit as I didn’t want it too sweet. My request was either ignored by the cashier or missed by whoever was making the coffee as it was unfortunately very sweet. I politely requested if they could redo it without anything this time. They ignored me for about 20 minutes and when all my friends were done with their coffees, the waitress brought me one and demanded myself to explain what was wrong with the first one while rolling her eyes at me. The whole experience was very unpleasant, and my last visit at this place.
