Attractive interior, small menu but daily specials, good selection of drinks. Chose the veg burger and special Parmesan chicken which came with spaghetti. The latter was really nice, perfectly done and not dry. Pasta had a nice tomato taste & portion size was pretty big and filling. The veg burger was good, though for £15 lacked sufficient garnish (only lettuce) - would suggest pickle, tomato, etc. Chips were nice. Service was friendly, perhaps a little slow waiting for table clearing at end but this is not uncommon I find in many restaurants.

Had a pre-booking for Sunday lunch. Servers were all lovely. Told up front that food might be delayed because they had a table of 10 that was going to be give priority. Ordered 2 Sunday chicken roasts, two ciabattas and a burger from the kid's menu. Food arrived 1hr 20minutes later. Ciabatta bread was not fresh at all, fillings were ok. The pea soup (delicious) came in the smallest cup ever, about 6-7 tablespoons at most. We were given the desert menu but then completely forgotten about until we decided to just pay and leave. All in all disappointed and would not be back.

Average at best, potatoes were cold and the mustard sauce was pretty tasteless but the chicken was well cooked. Overall my dish was not too bad but not worth £23. The starters were pricey for the size of portions. The chicken burger was definitely not worth £17, no salad, one (chicken thigh battered out) and coated in under seasoned and tasteless coating, didn’t even reach the sides of the small bun! Second chance visit for us as the first wasn’t great. Won’t be back

Myself and my husband had dinner here and it was so delicious we both had the Pea Soup it had a lovely vibrant colour and tasted delicious, I then opted for the Lamb Tagine which was so flavoursome I didn’t have much room left for dessert but I’m so glad I had the sticky toffee pudding which had lovely little chewy nuggets of dates in they really added something to the taste and texture. The service was lovely too. Keep doing what you’re doing guys we will be back.

What a disappointing lunch to-day. We have been before and enjoyed the food and friendliness but to-day was something else. Very, very slow service and although food that was served was in parts good the 90 minutes wait for main course is not acceptable here or anywhere else. Staff blamed it on a big upstairs party and an understaffed kitchen. Our invited friends from Australia were not impressed and neither were we and the 25% off the bill was not enough to remedy the long wait. Will not visit again.

This place seems to be seriously understaffed and the service is odd. We waited a very long time for drinks and food, it was also mostly empty. I ordered a champagne and the glass was half full, food was nice enough but seriously slow. Very overpriced and that is with some items left off of the bill. Weird atmosphere. I doubt it will survive but I wouldn't return.

We went last night for my birthday/ pre mother's day, it was really disappointing. The leek and cheese starter bread is amazing and good value, other than that it was poor. My son and I had sausage and mash, a pencil thin tiny Cumberland sausage, on top of a slimy, again tiny, pile of mash. Slimy gravy and small scoop of onions barely decipherable. I have rarely been served such a paltry meal, and no vegetables too be seen. My husband had chicken burger and chips, which was a decent portion, but he said it was boring and tasteless. Dessert, I had sticky toffee pudding, this was a good size but hard and tastes burnt underneath, the chocolate fondant that my son had however was a roaring success. We won't be back, this was our second visit, last time was a couple of years ago. It has either gone down hill or maybe a bad night? However for the just short of £100 bill, of which consisted of the already added on gratuity of 10%, it was a massive disappointment. I wouldn't eat somewhere that forces you to top up the servers pay, even if the experience was rubbish. I will tip if it is deserved, on this occasion it wasn't. Staff were disinterested and just not very nice.

Service very slow, it took an hour and threequarters to have lunch. The starter was passable but not filling. The best beef pie was almost uneatable as most of the meat was gristle and the sweet, sticky toffee pudding, was the only part of the meal which was acceptable. All in all not recommended and will certainly not be back. If Mr Banks is putting his name to this, his reputation will soon suffer. After our visit, friends who live locally told us that the place has deteriorated badly since he took over.

We were there for the Dean Banks 5 course tasting menu, which was amazing! The food was spectacular as was the wine paired with it. It was nice to see Dean serving the dishes and explaining them. I am glad we booked for an early sitting as the service did slow as the night went on. To be honest it didn’t bother us as it nicely spaced the courses out. This will be my 3rd visit now and I’ve never been disappointed with the food, however the service seems to be a common theme. Get that right and what a place!

Dine in | Lunch | £40–50 I went with my friend from Edinburgh to try this place. I had emailed to ask if they had a gluten free menu. Returned email said yes. Waitress was lovely. I could have soup, no bread. I could have pate, no bread or oat cakes. I opted for beetroot and goats cheese salad for the starter. A dozen or so very small bits of beetroot, dotted around the plate was a mousse which I presume was the goats cheese. Doesn't say mousse on the menu it was Tasteless. Main meal was Forager chicken with mash and haggis. No haggis for me which is acceptable but nothing to replace it. Well not that I could see. The mash was so watery it spread out on the plate like a thick-ish soup. I phoned today February 15th, to say I was coming up next week and that I didn't want to give a negative review. The 'front of house' lady who would not give her name got rather annoyed with me. I thought that I would be given an apology with the promise of a complimentary coffee next time. Not so, she made excuses upon excuses. She tried to belittle my concerns. Boiling it down to having no GF bread. Not so. She also accused me of being rude. She did say, " they would TRY and get GF bread/oatcakes" The cost of this paultry food was extortion. Very overpriced. I give honest and accurate reviews. Hopefully they will change their attitude towards GF folk. I hope your visit (if you go) is better than mine.

It’s indeed a pleasure to find a country pub with no downsides. Our family enjoy exploring rural inns and hotels especially for Roast dinners. The Forager has to top the list so far. Tasteful decor and a friendly welcoming smile leads to high food expectations and we were not disappointed. Beautifully presented and delicious. Many thanks to the Foragers team for a thoroughly enjoyable experience. And the house lager “Auch” Is well worth a try.

Family roast at 4.00pm only 3 roast chicken left, which was overcooked, and the beef was warm rare and very tough. Service was poor, waited more than 20 minutes for a jug of water that didn't arrive. The disappointing concern was that after complaining, no chief came to us for feedback. Instead he was standing at the bar with 4 other staff members. This is not a one off disappointing meal but 4 now in the last 3 months. Pauline

I really like the ambience of the Forager, it’s a beautiful space. Have been a few times as it’s local and pleasant. Went with large party and were upstairs which was fine to start with v attentive waitress but then she seemed to go off shift and we were pretty much forgotten about for a while- given desert menus but no follow up to take our order for a significant period of time. Steaks and burgers weren’t available on the menu which was disappointing as I would expect plenty of those to be in stock as v popular items. The rib roast of beef was nice but the gravy was exceptionally sweet and I would have preferred the option to pour my own rather than have it in a gravy I didn’t particularly enjoy. By no means a bad experience but just a few little details leave it being a great experience. Could really do with someone manning upstairs more as it tends to be ‘ forgotten’ and as I left I had to ask for the bill to be delivered to the remaining party upstairs as I was in a rush to be somewhere. There were a few members of staff congregated at the entrance so unsure why we weren’t attended to more? ( initial waitress - lady from HK originally was fab tho !)

However, the last time was Sunday roast beef, and that was a huge portion! A nice selection occasionally drinks.

The meet and greet guy was pretty silent and not very welcoming. Not a great start to our lunch out with friends! The table we were shown to had been set for 5 and we were a 4 - obviously not the table we’d booked. We placed our orders after a fair delay but our glasses for water and the water itself were a long time in coming. One of our ordered starters was apparently not up to chef’s standards and so came well behind the others due to being done again. My main apparently suffered the same problem which was almost believable, if chef was having a bad day, except that it was the Sunday lunch roast! Hardly cooked to order. I was delivered an order of truffle fries to ‘nibble on’ while I waited for my delayed main. The roast of the day plateful, including side veg dishes, was a huge portion so to send me fries to snack on first rather than take something off the bill for our double inconvenience mystifies me. The waiting staff were lovely and tried their best, but for the price we were disappointed with the food delays. By the time we were expecting our main course food the restaurant was pretty empty so volume of demand couldn’t have been the problem. All in all - disappointing! We’ve been gifted a voucher for here so not too hopeful about our experience then!

The quality of the food was excellent on the whole. I had salmon which was beautifully cooked and the caper butter sauce was lovely. The portion size was good but the potatoes were too hard. My fellow diners both had the loin of venison, potato rosti and celeriac puree. The food was delicious though the potato dish was not what I think of as rosti. However, the main gripe was that the portions were very small indeed and this made the plates very overpriced at £31.95. We spoke to the manager who said that the portion sizes were correct with 4 ounce pieces of venison. I looked up some venison recipes online when we got home and the suggested weights of venison for one varied from 5 1/4 ounces to 7 ounces. As my friend put it, the meat was finished in two or three mouthfuls. The weights were included for the steaks and this 4 oz weight should be included on the menu so diners know what to expect. We each ordered 125 ml of Malbec and I thought the wine was OK but nothing special. Each glass cost £8.20 making the cost of a bottle at £49.20. The service was very friendly though a little slow. 10% was added to our bill making the cost of three mains, one pudding, three small glasses of wine and a pudding come in at just over £144 for three people.
