Enjoyed the best vegan afternoon tea we've had since moving to the Dales. We called on the off chance they could fit us in (despite it not being 24hrs notice) and were delighted to get a booking. Heather couldn't do enough for us from service through to some recipe ideas. Such a helpful lady despite being really busy. The vegan cheese/chive scones are so light and tasty. The sandwich fillings were varied and the cakes home-made and absolutely delicious. The Folly is a beautiful, historical building and has a relaxed atmosphere. Great place to meet for a coffee. Well worth a stop off on the Settle - Carlisle line. We will certainly return for another take-away of the savoury scones - great baking skills Freida! 👌

The food was ok. Ordered an oat milk coffee and the milk was off but unfortunately nobody came to check on us to see if everything was ok and being in the lower area for dining with a baby I was unable to take back to the counter. No one also turned up to take plates cups and glasses away when we were well finished with them. Other tables were still full of dirty plates with nobody sitting there. The first area of the cafe is quite warm looking and welcoming but the area at the bottom is not as atmospheric unfortunately. The high chairs were also all dirty and needed a good wipe down with a baby wipe before I would put my child in it.

What a gem of a find. Popped in for a brew and scone, the scones were amazingly fresh and the coffee was delish, all set in a beautiful 17th century building. There is also a secret garden. We visited Folly coffee shop today in Settle but wasn’t impressed by the taste of their coffee I ordered an Americano and my wife ordered a Latte as well as sandwiches and scones. I would not recommend the coffees there -my americano was weak and my wife couldn’t taste the coffee in her latte. We sent both back.I told them I’m used to good strong coffee in the cafes I visited, the reply back to me was sharp and abrupt and informed to order a second shot.We had replacement coffees but they were no better and I was told if I wanted stronger coffee then I needed to pay for an extra shot. Why should I be told to pay for 2nd shot when I was already paying above and beyond the local price not to mention it’s the price I would pay in any large city and even then it would taste perfect - all I wanted was a coffee that tasted of coffee and wasn’t just brown water. On my conclusion of coffee tasting I suspect it’s inferior brand or pre measured and no doubt a tightness that would leave Scrooge gasping . Avoid certainly on the coffee.

Have enjoyed day trips to Settle since Covid and discovered the Folly by chance walking from the Greenfoot Car Park. It is definitely worth your while searching out if you arrive by train and find yourself in the centre of Settle. Ignore the temptation of those more prominent cafes and find the Folly. We sat in comfort in front of burning log fire and ate delicious very reasonably priced food including parsnip and apple soup, mushrooms and scrambled egg on sourdough toast, ginger scone, fat rascal, teas and a variety of coffees. Wonderful relaxed ambiance with friendly professional waiting staff.

Nice garden area and dog friendly, but a very strange system of finding a table, walking back down a steep incline to the main cafe to order, back up to the table with a buzzer and then back down to collect your order when the buzzer alerted you it was ready. No problem for us, but for those on their own, with dogs or young children, or with reduced mobility what a long drawn out way of getting served

Visited The Folly Coffee House yesterday afternoon for coffee and cake. It was obviously popular and the staff were very busy yet served us in a very cheerful manner. The walnut and pear cake was lovely, light and fresh so have to disagree with previous reviewer on that. Would have had another slice to take home but unfortunately it all sold out. This is our go to place in Settle and understand why it has won Museum Cafe of the Year Award. I suspect that is why it can get so busy but the staff seem so hard working in maintaining standards despite being so busy. Our favourite coffee house in Settle. Worth detouring slightly off the main square to find it. Shame about the recent weather as we like to sit in the garden at the back of the building too.

We ordered 2 hot drinks, a bacon roll and a cheese scone. The drinks came a few minutes later and were very good; we drank them and chatted, but, a half hour later, the food hadn’t arrived, so I went and asked. The helpful girl at the counter said she’d check, went to the kitchen and told us it would just be a few minutes. The bacon roll arrived a few minutes later, but the scone took another 5 minutes, by which time my husband had nearly finished his roll. The scone was very good, but came without any butter, which I had to go and ask for. We have no complaints about the food, which was good, but the wait wait seemed lengthy, and especially as several couples came in, looking for a table, but left because there wasn’t one

Whilst the garden was nice, they only serve food in takeaway containers out there. They did make this clear, but nonetheless this sells short what should have been nice food; putting aside the environmental concerns. We were a large party of two families which appeared to cause an imposition to the staff who reminded other customers of how massive the order they'd just had was, which meant there would be a long wait.

A pleasant cafe with a number of rooms. They have some delicious looking cakes, though my fruit scone was a little on the dry side. The other food that we saw looked very nice but was slightly on the high side, price wise. The coffee was the biggest let down. My Cappuccino was completely insipid and tasted of luke warm milk minus any noticeable coffee. I ended up leaving half of it. As nice as all the cakes look, coffee is the most important thing in a coffee shop.

Lovely experience at The Folly. I’d had a long walk up Pen-Y-Ghent with my dog and was looking for somewhere to get a coffee and cake. I was surprised that many of the shops/ cafes aren’t dog friendly as in Norfolk most of them are, and given that walkers are expected in the area. A stranger gave me a tip to head to The Folly when he saw I was obviously looking for somewhere to get a drink with my dog. I’m so glad he did! The Folly is gorgeous, a beautiful old building, lovely coffee, superb spiced apple cake. Best of all though was the staff. 2 lady’s and a younger lad all gave exceptionally friendly, genuine service. They really made me and my dog feel welcome, as did the gentleman in the book shop side. Wonderful dog friendly cafe. Clean and spacious. Good coffee in decorative cups and saucers (large or regular). Very impressed with the Scallywags (a dark, fruity type scone) bursting with flavours. Also, the cheese sandwich was spot-on. They even have North Riding Brewery beers (bottles) as part of their alcoholic beverages range. Friendly atmosphere, popular with locals and walkers and set in a large historic building. The cafe itself is a means of charitable support for the building and museum. The entrance to the cafe is up about 3 steps. At the front of the building. So, wheelchair access will probably be difficult (But, check this, as they may have a contingency plan in operation).
