Love it! The folly is a fascinating, welcoming and comfortable establishment.

Just had a Latte. The whole place is very much improved since its closer. Will call again when passing through. Settle was my destination on a rather grime day.

Stopped for a quick loo break but obviously bought coffee and cake. Sadly the museum was shut but the building is so lovely to sit in and a lot of history to it. Hubby said the jewelled fruit cake was delicious

Great home cooked food, friendly staff, recommended.

Have enjoyed day trips to Settle since Covid and discovered the Folly by chance walking from the Greenfoot Car Park. It is definitely worth your while searching out if you arrive by train and find yourself in the centre of Settle. Ignore the temptation of those more prominent cafes and find the Folly. We sat in comfort in front of burning log fire and ate delicious very reasonably priced food including parsnip and apple soup, mushrooms and scrambled egg on sourdough toast, ginger scone, fat rascal, teas and a variety of coffees. Wonderful relaxed ambiance with friendly professional waiting staff.

What a magnificent building. Absolutely lovely. Thank you so much for the great selection of gluten free cakes and sandwiches. So happy to find this place.

Warm, friendly staff... Coffee was a little bitter, but the atmosphere made up for that . Will be going again.

What a fabulous place we found it by accident but was so pleased we had we will be going back. The food is fresh and delicious We had the beautiful scones.

Nice garden area and dog friendly, but a very strange system of finding a table, walking back down a steep incline to the main cafe to order, back up to the table with a buzzer and then back down to collect your order when the buzzer alerted you it was ready. No problem for us, but for those on their own, with dogs or young children, or with reduced mobility what a long drawn out way of getting served

We went for the audience with Father Christmas and it was absolutely fantastic! We got the room to ourselves and Santa told a story and we sang jingle bells (with the help of his elves). We also got a little present to open on Christmas day. The folly itself is a beautiful building and was decorated wonderfully which added to the experience. We had a couple of coffees in the cafe whilst there and will definitely be back as the cakes looked delicious!

Great coffee by the fire on a cold day, perfect. Needed two coffees to warm up though... Museum next door free entry.

We had such a lovely visit to the Folley. The staff were sooo friendly and also especially lovely to our dog ‘ Mr Fox’. Giving him a gravy bone to enjoy ❤️🦴Will definitely visit again when we are in the area. Lots of gluten free options too which was such a breathe of fresh air! A gf biscuit came with my coffee too! Slow service, the cheesy crumpets were clearly just microwaved but still took over 20 mins to arrive. No servers came around to check how things were at any point. Coffee was okay

Came here from a recommendation from our campsite and it did not disappoint. Dog friendly, have a lovely secret garden to sit in and the food we ordered was delicious the one problem then was we were too full to try enjoy one of their amazing looking homemade cakes, Also a great gluten free selection available. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Settle.

Service and food are exceptional each time I visit. The coffee is a local blend and always served with a small homemade shortbread,lovely touch. The bacon sandwich on seeded granary bread is of the finest quality,no watery processed bacon or dry roll here. I recommend this coffee house to everyone who I meet visiting Settle .

Called in for lunch and had a delicious sausage, black pudding and apple roll. The pastry was light and flaky and very enjoyable. I bought a cheese scone to take away and ate it when I got home. Again, home made on the premises and you could tell. Will definitely return next time I’m in Settle.

Visited The Folly Coffee House yesterday afternoon for coffee and cake. It was obviously popular and the staff were very busy yet served us in a very cheerful manner. The walnut and pear cake was lovely, light and fresh so have to disagree with previous reviewer on that. Would have had another slice to take home but unfortunately it all sold out. This is our go to place in Settle and understand why it has won Museum Cafe of the Year Award. I suspect that is why it can get so busy but the staff seem so hard working in maintaining standards despite being so busy. Our favourite coffee house in Settle. Worth detouring slightly off the main square to find it. Shame about the recent weather as we like to sit in the garden at the back of the building too.

We ordered 2 hot drinks, a bacon roll and a cheese scone. The drinks came a few minutes later and were very good; we drank them and chatted, but, a half hour later, the food hadn’t arrived, so I went and asked. The helpful girl at the counter said she’d check, went to the kitchen and told us it would just be a few minutes. The bacon roll arrived a few minutes later, but the scone took another 5 minutes, by which time my husband had nearly finished his roll. The scone was very good, but came without any butter, which I had to go and ask for. We have no complaints about the food, which was good, but the wait wait seemed lengthy, and especially as several couples came in, looking for a table, but left because there wasn’t one

Food very tasty, but quite expensive for what you get! Prices about 1 third higher than what I would expect. However the renovations must have been very expensive.

Whilst the garden was nice, they only serve food in takeaway containers out there. They did make this clear, but nonetheless this sells short what should have been nice food; putting aside the environmental concerns. We were a large party of two families which appeared to cause an imposition to the staff who reminded other customers of how massive the order they'd just had was, which meant there would be a long wait.

Nice food, simple menu we ordered toasties served with side salad and some crisps, good spot for lunch. Dog friendly too.

Lovely place. Very friendly staff. Amazing scones. Loved it. I had a rhubarb scone with ginger preserve and clotted cream. It was possibly the best cream tea I have ever had.

A pleasant cafe with a number of rooms. They have some delicious looking cakes, though my fruit scone was a little on the dry side. The other food that we saw looked very nice but was slightly on the high side, price wise. The coffee was the biggest let down. My Cappuccino was completely insipid and tasted of luke warm milk minus any noticeable coffee. I ended up leaving half of it. As nice as all the cakes look, coffee is the most important thing in a coffee shop.

Lovely food and drinks in this quirky place. Staff always friendly and cheerful. Probably my favourite place to get coffee and a snack in Settle.

Had lunch here, and the food / service was excellent. Unfortunately, we did not have time to look at the museum as we had a train to catch back to Carlisle. We will be back 😊

Excellent Scallywag and Scone with clotted cream. My favourite 👍👍It’s a lovely grade one listed location worth finding. A huge fireplace with log fire.

Lovely little cafe, great food reasonably priced, tasty drinks and good portion sizes! Lovely cake selection although we didn't have room to try one after lunch. Book a table if possible as there aren't many seats and it was packed at 2 on a Saturday.

I love my visits to the Folly - my favourite cafe in Settle. Avocado, egg and sourdough toast is beautiful! The cakes are always delicious too. The staff are wonderful.

We called into The Folly coffee house on our way home from the lakes . We decided to eat off the specials board . Butternut squash soup with roll. Brie and pear toastie . Ginger and parsnip cake .and a orange lemon.and lime cake and two teas. All Beautiful . The cafe was very popular with locals and tourist . Nice staff.

After a lovely walk I called into the cafe in this historic building. It serves a lovely selection of drinks and food. Can recommend.

Brilliant. Dog friendly, good food and caters very well for gluten free diet. Most of the menu was adaptable for me. There was a choice of gluten free cake, and it was good cake that didn’t look or taste gluten free. And what really made me feel welcome - my cup of tea came with a complimentary gluten free mini biscuit, just like my gluten eating partner’s.

Great building and a nice space for eating but we must have gone on a bad day. Even though they were running a reduced menu we didn't get what we ordered. Bread wasn't what we asked for and there was no ham in either of the cheese, ham and chutney toasties. Wasn't cheap either. Coffee was good.

A delightful cafe in a really stunning building. The food and drink were lovely and very good value for money. The staff were all extremely friendly and welcoming on the two visits we made here during our stay. Dog friendly too.

Lovely experience at The Folly. I’d had a long walk up Pen-Y-Ghent with my dog and was looking for somewhere to get a coffee and cake. I was surprised that many of the shops/ cafes aren’t dog friendly as in Norfolk most of them are, and given that walkers are expected in the area. A stranger gave me a tip to head to The Folly when he saw I was obviously looking for somewhere to get a drink with my dog. I’m so glad he did! The Folly is gorgeous, a beautiful old building, lovely coffee, superb spiced apple cake. Best of all though was the staff. 2 lady’s and a younger lad all gave exceptionally friendly, genuine service. They really made me and my dog feel welcome, as did the gentleman in the book shop side. Thank you

Wonderful dog friendly cafe. Clean and spacious. Good coffee in decorative cups and saucers (large or regular). Very impressed with the Scallywags (a dark, fruity type scone) bursting with flavours. Also, the cheese sandwich was spot-on. They even have North Riding Brewery beers (bottles) as part of their alcoholic beverages range. Friendly atmosphere, popular with locals and walkers and set in a large historic building. The cafe itself is a means of charitable support for the building and museum. The entrance to the cafe is up about 3 steps. At the front of the building. So, wheelchair access will probably be difficult (But, check this, as they may have a contingency plan in operation).

Just called in for a coffee and I thought I would try a Folly Scallywag with clotted cream and jam. I'm so glad I did, would highly recommend this for a treat.

I enjoyed my coffee today. I am not an expert but wonder if the Scallywags need less nutmeg? Seemed to overpower the other flavours.

Part of a museum this is an excellent clean cafe. We had very good coffee and my wife had what's called a scallywag cake. Like a fat rascal from Betty's but with added ginger and cinnamon. It was really tasty. Would certainly call again if...

A warm welcome from the coffee shop team at The Folly. Lovely jacket potato, coffee and chat on places to visit in the area. Our dogs received dog treats. The history of the property is fascinating with art exhibitions. Highly recommend

We stood in the doorway waiting to be seated (as the sign asked) for a while, before the young servers shouted across “just sit anywhere”. The menu is limited but has the usual cafe choices. I thought the prices a bit steep, but believe this...

Great place for coffee and bun!

We came in as a group of 12 after traipsing around settle looking for somewhere for lunch; we arrived at the Folly and the staff were very happy to make room for us. They made sure we had everything we needed and rectified 1 incorrect...

Had an amazing afternoon tea today. Great sandwiches, sausage roll, scone and Christmas cake - vegetarian options too. Thoroughly recommend.

Great café in Settle ran mainly by volunteers good selection of coffees and hot chocolate and cakes,scones and Yorkshire rascals.

A very pleasant place . Good service and good coffee and pastries. My only criticism was the cold seat near to the door and fire. Perhaps a porch door would help this problem. Nevertheless a place I would definitely recommend for a morning break.

Very pleasant and efficient staff. Service was good as well as delicious coffee and pastries. The only negative comment was the cold draught blowing around our table near to the door. When funding allows an porch door would be helpful in the winter time. Hence the 4stars not 5.

Lovely cake and coffee, interestng museum too

Met family for breakfast here, as they had no electric, after storm Arwen. Super friendly staff and great service, even happy for us to use sockets to charge phones. Food looked really good too.

This is a cafe attached to the museum and had a lovely welcoming inglenook fireplace and friendly welcoming staff. We only had a snack but it was reasonably priced and tasted good and we had a wander round the museum

Friendly cafe full of walkers and locals alike. Wood burning stove, home made cakes and a nice selection of light bites for lunch. The cream tea scone was huge and very tasty.

Found the Folly by chance but what a find. We had drinks and Tea Loaf accompanied by a wedge of Wensleydale cheese which was delicious. Friendly staff and good prices.

Lovely welcoming staff allocated our own private seating area for a group of 11 people . We selected cakes and other home cooked refreshments all tasted divine.

Not been here before seemed a bit quirky, had a secret garden! Hmm wasn't sure we'd find it, yeah is was out the café around the side to the rear, very quaint walled garden, peaceful. You order in the café (which also has seating) then...

We visited for afternoon coffee, my wife having a scone and myself a slice of victoria sponge, both were very light and very tasty, and we both had very nice cappuccinos. A great find!!
