The Flying Dutchman in Waveney

My wife and I took my mum out for Sunday lunch and had a very enjoyable meal. We booked a table via Messenger a few days ahead and they confirmed pretty quickly. We all enjoyed a lamb roast...Mum had the child's option as it is still a good plateful but more suited for her smaller appetite. There was a little wait for the food to arrive (around 45 minutes) and was a good plateful, the only minor niggle was that it wasn't piping hot, more lukewarm, so perhaps it had been standing for a while awaiting service. The deserts were yummy - we all had the cheesecake, which is home-made by the manager...the cheesecake was Gold Bar, and it was amazing...I thought the portion might be too large for mum but she ate the lot and said it was one of the best cheesecakes she had eaten. Overall the meal was very good and the dessert was superb, the only reason for just four stars was the heat of the roast dinner and the slow service today. It was busy in the pub with lots of people in there for the football, but not too many tables were eating so I think the service could have been more attentive. I will keep coming back for the cheesecake though...did I mention it was really good?

Fantastic meals all the week, Sunday Roast is lovely, loads of meat choices, and plenty of it, without a doubt best Sunday lunch around, don’t really know how they do it for the money, ten out of ten. Great.

Fantastic, takeaway Sunday roast. Very good selection of vegetables, good portion of lamb and beef, slices. Lovley yorkshires, huge and light, finished with tasty gravy. Friendly delivery driver. Been some time since we had a roast takeaway, glad your still doing them. Compliment 's to the kitchen staff.

We've been for midweek lunches, which were excellent,so thought we'd try Sunday lunch. Glad we did. We had the lamb and the chicken. Delicious and plentiful, piping hot, with a jug of extra gravy. Such good value. We've since had the same meal delivered, no extra charge. It arrived bang on tinye and piping hot. We'll done! See you very soon!

This was our third visit in 2024, having previously had two Sunday lunch visits with family. It was our wedding anniversary and we thought we would try out the weekday menu as we had only ever had the Sunday roast dinners. As expected, the food was excellent, and my beer was nice too. My wife and I both had the steak meal, although I made mine a surf and turf with a side order of scampi. The steak was very good, served with a large jug of peppercorn sauce. The scampi was also very good. For desserts we both had the cheesecake (again), which is home-made by the manager of the pub...this time it was Battenberg cheesecake - somewhat unusual but was yummy and we both had really large portions. The service on our visit was friendly but a little hit and miss...being a quiet midweek evening not many were eating and we had to go to the bar to get attention that we wanted to order desserts instead of being asked at the table, however apart from that it was an excellent meal out.

Absolutely stunning food every time! My favourite place to go with friends and family! Manager and waitress are super friendly and helpful, nothing is too much to ask for! Chef, hats off! You take time to make sure each dish is not only presented well and the food is D.E.Licious! Keep doing what you're doing ☆☆☆☆☆

The staff were very friendly and helpful. We hadn't booked but that was fine. Both had the fish and chips, one round of drinks. It was great value. The food was very hot and well cooked. Husband wanted something different with the f and c and they accommodated him. Would recommend the pub. Good selection of specials and general menu.

Visited the pub today for lunch with 8 other family members and WOW. Made really welcome as we entered shown to our big table and we had plenty of room. Staff and service excellent. We all had a Sunday roast and it was absolutely delicious plenty of meat lovely roast potatoes and perfect vegetables Yorkshire pudding and loads of lovely gravy. I had the vegetarian option just to try it out and it was lovely. Ordered pudding and coffees and again puddings well worth waiting for. We all agreed this was one of the best Sunday lunches we’d had in a pub for a long time. As you might have guessed we’d all definitely recommend a visit. Compliments to the chef, landlord, bar and waiting staff. Excellent value for money. We’ll see you again soon.

Same as some of other reviews good food at a good price staff friendly but a 1 1/2 hour wait for food. Wouldn’t have minded if we’d been told when we ordered.

This pub is thriving. Is apparent to me that the great enthusiasm of the bar staff. Functions Manageress and the landlord is all that a good pub needs. I had booked the Barn Function room some time back to hold a reception buffet and celebrations following a christening in the local church. I think maybe the Landlord realised within minutes i had no clue how to go about doing anything like this so the planning of it was taken out of my hands and left to the team. and wow was i impressed. The food was plentiful, Presentation excellent and the function room decorated out superb. all the guests enjoyed the atmosphere and were very complimentary about the gathering. A massive relief for myself. Well done to all the team at The Flying Dutchman. Thank you.

Had our wedding reception at the barn on 16th September. The staff couldn’t do enough for us, becks was simply amazing, arranging the set up of the venue for our arrival, the food was out of this world! I would recommend anybody wanting that out of this world service and experience with any form of celebration to book the Flying Dutchman! My husband and I called in here for food We had previously called in and watched a band a couple of weekends a go and had said we would try the food next time. Well, we turned up on quiz night. It was really busy, however we were given a warm welcome and everyone went out of their way to get us a table. We ordered off the specials board, I had pork belly and hubby had venison medallions, both cooked beautifully, we followed this with homemade cheesecake. All the food was amazing, very delicious and good value too. Chris, Becs and their staff are great. Thank you.

Great food but long waiting times. We could see they were busy, running out orders almost constantly for home deliveries. That said we weren’t in any rush but plan to give yourself time if you’re on a schedule! The Sunday roast was outstanding, we had a pork and a lamb and they were cooked to perfection. Proper roasties a massive yorkshire pud and homemade gravy …we had room for crumble and cheesecake and they were equally tasty. Rated 3 as there was a footy game on so lots of coming and goings from the back bar so lacked ambience at times so won’t suit if you want a quiet dinner. Facilities good having recently been refurbed and staff were friendly. Overall we’d go again as the food was great and we do like to support local businesses. Note to chef - crackling with the pork would have been devine.

Been coming here one and off for years. The Thursday night quiz is great and has become really popular - it is a good atmosphere and think that this is a real strength. We were also pleasantly surprised by the food! I had never eaten here, but wanted alternatives to the expensive and overrated Moss Co. pubs (like Jolly Sailors etc.) - Ordered mushroom stroganoff and chicken/pulled pork burger from the specials menu - they were both very tasty and great value at £10.95 each. The wait was a little long, but it was worth it and so I will definitely return here for drinks and food.

I went on Sunday for a roast. I liked the meal it was nice but we waited a long time and there didn’t appear to be many people in the place. I thought the non meat version was pretty good but my plate looked pretty empty compared to the other people I was with. I would have thought that because they had to take certain food off my plate like the stuffing for some reason they could have replaced it with more of the other things. The staff were nice though but long waiting times. Would go again.

Visited today with My family for the first time. Staff were very friendly & welcoming. The roast dinner was delicious & presented nicely. The food was served nice & hot & lots of extra gravy. The desserts were yummy too. Bex was brilliant. Will be visiting again.

Realise we eat her fairly often and I never remember to write a review! We went this Sunday for Roast, as always it was lively, everything lovely and hit, all freshly cooked and nicely presented. So reasonably priced, makes you want to go back. As for the Desserts, they are fantastic, always a delicious cheesecake ans this week we were treated to cookie dough and home made biscotti ice cream!! Heaven on a plate 😀 it may be a bit rough around the edges, but good food, at a good price and fabulous service will always win the day!! Long may it last and looking forward to our next visit, which definitely won't be too long away 😀

Came here with a group of girls our waitress Becky was very attentive, we all had a lovely meal servers well and all together, prices were really reasonable and we took advantage of the great offers, I had the smoked salmon fish cake with Thai green curry and rice which was delicious, never had a bad meal here and as we live within walking distance so much the better.

I spent this afternoon as part of a large family gathering (approx 19) for both food and drinks. We had a mixture of food in terms of starters, mains and desserts and I must say everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. The portions were plentiful, well cooked and nice and hot. It was exceptional value for money and the Dutchman is certainly the place to go for a Sunday roast. The waiting staff were friendly and attentive and so a good time had by all. We had a carvery here. We booked over the phone. The service was quick in taking our drinks order. But was very slow in coming back over to take food order. Considering all the staff at this point were just standing at the bar talking. The wait for food was also very long. The food however was lovely. Good portion size

Phoned up on the spur of moment and booked a table. After a long drive back from Surrey we both decided to have a meal out. Lovely warm friendly greeting on arrival. Just in time for the Chelsea match. We ordered a roast beef and roast lamb. Clearly popular for takeaway meals. The meals arrived and both presented nicely. Huge Yorkshire puddings. Tender slices of our chosen meats and a good selection of perfectly cooked vegetables.; red cabbage. Carrots. Broccoli. Parsnips and of course roast potatoes. Lovely touch with a pan of extra gravy. All nice and hot. We did have desserts...Berry cheesecake and chocolate fudge cake again lovely presentation. Perfect lunch. It's a sports type pub. But well worth a visit. Great friendly staff. Thank you.

Delicious food, especially the pulled pork burger. Very friendly and helpful service. Dog friendly to which was a bonus. Would definitely recommend.

Ordered an Easter Sunday roast for delivery at 3.30. The food and portions were just great. Arrived hot. Presented well with friendly professional service. Desserts were to die for. Fell akip in front of movie for 2 hours afterwards. Kinda says it all.

Not a very friendly or accommodating pub, not very welcoming, and very poor beer and lager choice, And the Guinness brewery should definitely visit and educate the staff and owner on how to store , serve, and chill /Guinness.

Great staff, great drinks and live music. What more can you ask for. One of the last real pubs in the area. The landlord spends the time with the staff to give it that extra little touch.

Went in here to watch a football match on a Sunday afternoon as it is the only place in Oulton Broad that screens live Sky football. It was very busy but perfectly ok however we didn't fancy going back on an evening
