Decided on our wY home to pop into this place for Sunday lunch. What finally arrived in front of me I was shocked for £17 I could have cooked better than this for our bill of over £40. Dried up piece of chicken, over cooked roast potatoes, 1 large brown parsnip, brown over cooked cauliflower cheese and a few carrots, 1 pieve of brocoli and a slice of savoy cabbage. This was poor and basically was fit for the bin. If you're going to offer a cooked Sunday roast all day at least make it edible and look appetising. I Won't be going back here this was very poor food today and Jamie Oliver would give you a very poor rating if you dished that kind of meal up for him.

I used to come to this pub as a young child in the early 1960s with my parents and grandparents. I am now 70 and it has hardly changed at all. How many places can you say that about? Proper pub food, none of your expensive gastro pub stuff. Wonderful old rambling pub inside with little rooms and unexpected steps and twists and turns. Dog friendly too. Also lovely to sit outside by the canal. I hope it always stays the same

Staying locally we ate here four nights running. It's a pub so busy with locals and visitors from the canal. Dog friendly so that's a plus. Menu a bit different and excellent quality for a fair price. If there was one negative its simply sometimes the portions are too big.

We visited as a party of 6 on a Sunday for our first post Covid meal in a restaurant and we were so pleased we chose the Fleur for this occasion! Fantastic Covid measures in place, great signage around the one way entrance and exit system, hand sanitising stations throughout, and the staff were super aware and didn’t encroach on your space when serving food and drinks. Well done all!! We’ve visited here a few times before, but this time instead of a roast I opted to try the Steak and Red Wine Gluten Free pie and I can honestly say it was the best pie I have had since having to cut gluten from my diet and perhaps even before! The filling was delicious and the pastry was perfect! Served with chunky chips and veg. The Peanut butter GF brownie was also a total winner! Everyone else in the party, thoroughly enjoyed their meals and desserts too and it was such a nice experience to be out inside a restaurant again! Thank you Fleur De Lys!

After walking in the wind and rain and finally locating my husband in the lock just south of the Fleur De Lys it was great to find a free table to order some food on the evening of Tuesday 25th Aug. Great mooring and food stop. Staff were all very helpful and lots of care has been taken to be COVID secure. They are also extending the Eat out to Help out into September.

Having been yesterday, and both of us trying what was supposed to be your famous pies, there was a big element of disappointment,The pie I chose was steak and ale,the filling was dry,the shortcut pastry was hard and the lid overbaked,I would not recommend this to any one.The staff were polite, but I had to wait 320 mins before I saw any one to order a desert and even then the spoon was supposed to be in the ice-cream and wasn't,so found one myself.this was a disappointing visit for us ,the pie I am sure had been in the microwave and the vegetables from Iceland, wouldn't recommend your famous pies to anyone, and no one on the floor to complain to.

An afternoon in the sunshine I’m watching the barges go by was the perfect way to enjoy our late lunch. The pub have organised superb social distancing whilst maintaining excellent standards of hygiene. Hospitality was excellent and food was delicious. Generous portions of fish and burgers served with hearty chips. The price range is brilliant and a menu to suit children and adults. Another visit will be a must. This is an excellent pub with customer service at its heart. Well done to all and keep up the super service. Thank you.

The gardens have well placed out tables, with a number under cover and a food and drink ordering and collection process which avoid you entering the pub - we didn't go inside but from a quick view through the serving hatch it looked as if tables were well separated inside. The major difference is the full menu inside, limited menu outside option. The latter does include some of the pies for which the pub is renowned.

Disappointing- have visited Fleur for years, but (due to family) 2 visits yesterday, both prebooked inside, let down by service. At lunch, had to keep flagging down our un-busy waitress to ask for menus, water, to chase food....waited nearly an hour for food, which with 2 hungry 3-year-olds was less than good! Two of us in the evening variable: again we were prebooked and rain meant few outside diners. Starters were speedy but then very long wait for mains (although not as long as the 80 minutes at the next table!) 3 requests for the bill initially produced one which double- charged the wine and had no Rishi discount.... Yes they amended it, but all added to underwhelming experience. Their Covid arrangements are excellent - as our their chips!- and really don’t like criticising a beautifully located and well-loved establishment, but would eat elsewhere next time!

So nice to go to a traditional pub not blanched with corporate branding and the food is lovely. Fairly limited menu owing to COVID but who needs an abundance of choice when you’re faced with pure quality anyway? This pub is known for its amazing pies and finally my husband and I acted on recommendations and headed here for date night. The pies were great. The staff were great. The ambience was lovely and the ale (my husband tells me) was fantastic! If you want decent reasonably priced pub grub and a friendly atmosphere definitely visit here! We’ll be returning! Next time we’ll head there with our kids as we noticed and enclosed play park in the beer garden when we arrived.

Ordered and paid for four take out pies, turned out they didn’t have two of them. Several items on the reduced menu weren't available! Dirty cutlery as well!Well done on the social distancing, felt extremely safe and the Pub/outside are well designed for covid, new toilets are a delight as they did need an upgrade. Shame the food has been left behind after lockdown. Thanks for the past experiences however on our recent one we will not be coming againRich.

Following a walk along the Avon Canal, my wife and I stopped for a well earned drink at the Fluer De Lys. The outside white washed walls, decorated with old coach lamps and full filled hanging baskets.A beautiful Oak beamed English pub, classic ale's and cider, outdoor marque, seating inside, covid 19 rules properly managed. Single route in and out, managed bar , in and out, with necessary segregation and anti bacterial station, all with a smile from staff. Food elegantly prepared , fresh produce , something for everyone. All food and drink brought to your table, no queuing at the bar.

Having experienced several local pubs/restaurants following covid restrictions, the Fleur de Lys is by far the worst experience by far. Wishing to eat outside, we were not allowed to use the toilets inside - there was only one portable loo outside which smelled horrible. Meal was served in a cardboard box with cardboard cutlery. However, the prices were extortionate for the experience!!

This is a restaurant we have been to before lockwood and was really happy with the experience, but post lockdown, they haven't got it right. On first appearance they seem to have made a real effort with hand sanitiser, social distancing etc. Internal and external diners are treated very differently, with those of us outside, being treated as the poor relations. Why there are two different systems for internal and external diners, I don't know. If you eat inside you get the usual service, if you eat outside, you are provided with a buzzer which lets you know your food is ready, you then go and fetch it.The menu outside is reduced, again don't know why. There are a selection of pies which the menu states is served with gravy, which seemed a bit strange as it is served in a box, but I thought they knew what they were doing. When we placed the order we asked if the pie came with anything else other than chips. We were told it came with vegetables. When we collected the food, it came in a box and consisted of a pie and a few chips. £10 for the privilege of having your food in a box, with no gravy and no vegetables and no service!!! Seems excessive to me. We have been to other pubs/restaurants since lockdown was eased and there we got plates and proper cutlery, here it was a box and a wooden disposable knife and fork. When we asked a member of staff about the lack of gravy and vegetables, she said "I don't do food" and left it at that rather than asking someone who does "do food".If you eat outside you are supposed to use the outdoor portaloos and not use those inside as these are for inside guests. Some guests did arrive later into the evening and they asked what time the bar closed and was informed 9pm. One of them went inside to order drinks (as the outside serving area had closed (around 7.30pm) and came out wihout anything. As we left, they left too.Although the Fleur de Lys seems to have made some effort since lockdown, it seems they have a long way to go.

Very disappointed. Ordered a ploughman’s £10. In the box was a bit of salad covered in dressing. Small amount of not so good Stilton and cheddar. Blob of Branson cheap sliced bread and packet ham. We were so excited that at last we could have a meal out (sitting outside) that we rushed to the Fleurde Lys. Friendly greeting, a huge amount of measures had been taken to make the place Covid safe. The food was served in disposable cardboard containers with wooden knives and forks (well done for no plastic). The menu is very much more limited at the moment, especially for the one of us is gluten-free. The 'normal' pie was great, but as is usual with gluten-free pastry, the pastry itself was almost inedible; I am not blaming the pub, it is just the nature of the beast. The fillings of both pies were delicious and a generous quantity.Well done to the Fleur de Lys for opening; I think we will be back when there is a more extensive gluten-free selection.

Firstly the girl sitting in the doorway ready to take your name for your reservation was strange and quite rude. Secondly the waitress we had didn't even introduce herself, she just skimmed our menus at us and walked away. The dish we wanted was sold out but this wasn't pointed out to us when the menu's were skimmed at us, the chicken on the cajun chicken burger was pink and full of veins, cheap quality chicken, pies aren't anything I need special, veg is hard, gravy is tastless and all staff (all quite young) stood around moaning they had to stay and do overtime, giving the circumstances with covid, they should be thankful they actually have a job. The location of the pub is beautiful and given the right management, staff and good quality food, Fleur de Lys could be a absolute goldmine but it's such a waste, it's ashame really, it has a lot of potential. We have visited the Fleur de Lys twice now and had two very different experiences! The first time we visited was a Wednesday evening, we reserved a table prior and arrived on time, was seated and served in amazing time and had a brilliant experience, excellent food and fast friendly service. We fell in love with the pubs friendly atmosphere and traditional feel. We visited for the second time on Sunday after booking over a week prior and didn't have the same fantastic experience. We booked for 2pm for Sunday lunch and was seated straight away by a lovely lad. He took our drinks orders straight away and they came promptly. However when it came to ordering food we waited for 20 minutes being ignored until my husband asked a waitress if you ordered at the bar or not. (we honestly was unsure at this point). The waitress actually looked annoyed whilst taking our order and I did feel like we had put her out. The meals came in good time and the roast was amazing however this time I just felt the customer service magic was missing. It was incredibly busy and granted it was a Sunday afternoon - the staff were all running around like crazy so I think more staff would be more beneficial.

After a gap of some 60 years, and a move up to the North, I finally returned this country pub that seems to have changed little in that time. The interior has been opened up and is much brighter. The exterior is how I remembered it - a lovely old building with canal-side gardens and plenty of parking. We got there early, which was just as well, as it soon filled up.Sensibly, dogs are only allowed in the lower bar.60 years ago I can remember only 2 sorts of pie - Chicken & Mushroom and Steak & Kidney. Now there is a full menu featuring pub classics, a whole range of pies, and some good vegetarian choices. I recommend the Moo and Bloo pie! we'll be returning again as soon as possible.

Following our visit this evening I find it necessary to advise all potential customers of our experience regarding the the amount of dogs and there owners cluttering within the eating area to the degree that on three occasions it was difficult to get to the bar area.To be a dog friendly pub is one thing, but surely to serve food in such an obvious un hygienic atmosphere is simply not on, I suggest you either allow dogs in a certain area or stop serving food in such an un hygienic environment. To have so many dogs and there subsequent habits being allowed certainly ruined our visit and I strongly advise to all potential customers to steer clear of this venue unless you want to find a haven for your dog.

Lovely country pub, great for a light bite at lunch or a pint in the beer garden in summer. However, went on a Saturday night and unfortunately the service was pretty poor. Pub was roasting hot, and we were given a seat next to a radiator too. Asked the staff to turn the heating down or turn the radiator off but they managed neither. After around an hour we moved tables but the whole place was just unbearably hot. Really ruined the experience for us and we couldn’t wait to get outside. The actual table service was quite bad too: Desserts took 30 minutes to arrive, no welfare checks for drinks / sauces / “how is your meal”. Sat for most of the evening with empty glasses. Really feel let down by our experience which is a shame as we’ve been plenty of times for lunches and for drinks in the beer garden. Likely won’t return.

Lovely characterful old place, several rooms leading into one another. Pies were great, good choice of potato and fresh veg or salad accompaniments, reasonably priced. Beer well tapped. Coffee was good quality. Despite booking ahead for 3 people we didn't get a good table - ours seemed made for 2 but they had added a 3rd chair which blocked the main passageway as did an apparently extra chair on an adjoining table. They were full (on a weekday) and had a large pre-booked party in, which may account for the "extra" chairs. Heating comes from log fires which warm nicely in parts but other parts are cold.

Lunch on 30th December. It was busy, but even so, the food order was taken within five minutes of getting the drinks and yet we waited over an hour to receive it, after prompting the staff. To order a dessert took another 15-minute wait at the bar, another half an hour's wait for the ice cream itself and then another queue at the bar to finally pay. Food was standard pub fayre. Like so many dining pubs in the UK, it is neither pub nor restaurant, staff are probably mostly part-time and as a consequence it was just the usual blah. Always a pity that these fabulous old places in wonderful locations just all tend to be the same at the end of the day.

The online booking system worked well, so our table was ready for us beside a nice log burner to keep us warm! The staff were all very friendly and attentive, we were in the dining room which we'd not been in before which was nice and never felt too noisy. Place itself was rammed, very glad we'd booked! Food was great, I had the roast beef which was as good as any pub I've had recently. Everyone on our table commented on how good the food was. We managed to keep some room for dessert, and again it was great. Kids loved the waffles, with a bit of indecision on the toppings! Nice pub next to canal and good size beer garden, nicely furnished inside. We ordered two moo pies (steak and ale) no choice of potatoes the food came within 10 mins supper fast so obviously not cooked to order. The pie which was raved about on the menu was just very ordinary, a few chips from the freezer a small jug of very ordinary gravy and some carrots and green beans. the portion size was ok but not spilling over the sides as per the menu. Basically the enthusiasm and passion about the food on the website and menu did not reflect the food we received which was disappointing and what you would expect in one of the chain restaurants. I think they either need to tone down the menu or very much improve the food.

Always willing to try again so booked a table and told staff that we would be bringing a dog (which they are happy with) and asked to be seated downstairs as it’s out of the way and our dog could be kept such that she wouldn’t be in the way of others, as before when we’ve asked the same, we were then seated in a passageway which was clearly a problem for us with the dog but more importantly it could be an issue with other customers and staff (carrying hot meals). For the second time we made this absolutely clear and made the same request when booking but yet again on arrival they insisted that we had to yet again sit in the passageway, fortunately this time on an adjacent table which was slightly better. Service was slow, as was evident from the number of people asking when their food was going to arrive and whilst my partner enjoyed her dish I have to say that the pie I ordered was nothing special. The pub itself is lovely and second only to its surroundings but the service and food has lost its personal touch and wouldn’t be out of place in a Wetherspoons.

The Fleur de Lys provides high end bar food in a lovely setting next to the canal. The food is tasty and is served in very good portions (salad pictured below). I'm told that the pies are great too although I have no personal experience.Service is very slooooow, especially on Sundays at lunchtime, but that's not such a big issue if you expect it and have the time to wait circa 50 minutes after you place your order. What is harder to understand is the order queues which are frequently more than 15 minutes. Solved easily by a couple of extra staff I'd have thought.Good despite that but more of a 3.5 than a 4 star for me as a result.

I have been visiting the Fleur De Lys for years and have never had a complaint against it. However, in recent months it hasn’t been up to its usual standards. 1. You need to decide whether you are a table service pub or order at the bar, as sometimes we get waited on and other times when we are promised a waiter/waitress will see to us, they never appear. 2. Some tables seem to be neglected more than others (the table for two on the stage for example) no one seems to come and ask if everything is ok with meals & other tables who are seated after seem to get seen to much sooner. 3. Collection of plates is very slow - we had a nearly 20 minute wait after our dinner was finished before anyone came to collect the plates, once we finally got someone’s attention, the waitress took our plates and didn’t even bother to ask whether we would like desserts or if the meal was ok. These experiences will not make me stop visiting this pub however it will be a while until we return.

A beef burger for £12 which is miniscule, no salad, just a few chips.... so-called SEAFOOD linguine and the seafood is pieces of cod, one mini bite of salmon without a single prawn, scallop, squid, mussel or any other real seafood... I don’t think it’s worth the bother. Very underwhelming indeed. It feels like they’re just exploiting their location on the canal in a disappointing way.

I am very sad to have to write this review but it needs to be written. On arrival the person we first saw was too busy lighting candles to greet us, no eye contact, no "hello" or "please hang on a minute "or "I'll ask someone to see to you" or even calling one of the bar staff who were not at that point visible - just an "excuse me" to get past us to carry on the lighting of candles task. We had to walk around to the other side of the bar to find someone. This lady turns out to be the manager.Attempts to get a sensible conversation later to give face-to-face feedback (as I do not use Tripadisor ever, prefer not to go public) were unsuccessful - just made it worse. No understanding, offhand, lighting of candles was very important to make the pub welcoming apparently - the irony of her statement was obviously lost on her. Unbelievable. A case study in how not to do it. Normally this is one of my very favourite places. I will probably hesitate now before going again. Luckily the bar and serving staff were absolutely great - young and inexperienced but friendly and attentive, authentic - nice people.I understand that Emma & Nick, whose pub it is, are stepping back from the front line for a while - I do hope my experience was a one-off - but reputation and customer trust are hard won and lost all too easily.

Came here on a busy warm Sunday afternoon to get some late lunch sandwiches. Waited at the outdoor bar hatch to order food for around 10 minutes before being told that I should then join the back of the line inside the bar with no signage explaining I could not order from this hatch. Seems a bit redundant.... My husband went on to order a salmon and avocado sandwich which unfortunately did not meet his expectations as the “avocado” was simply cheap smooth guacamole out of a jar. He went in to complain and the response from the manager was that no one else had found issue with this and it was in fact avocado. I don’t pretend to be a chef but I know the difference between fresh avocado and guacamole. No offer of a change of sandwich or a refund left us feeling let down and not wanting to go back there again!

My wife and myself called in for Lunch after walk along the canal. Because of the name we felt we should try a couple of the pies. I found them distinctly average . The pastry on mine was hard and I suspect overcooked. The portion size did not match up to the price tag. I am afraid £32 for 2 pie &chips and 2 pints of lager does not offer good value

Great menu with specials catering for all tastes - two had the Hake with a prawn hollandaise sauce - delicious also stuffed aubergines and a steak meal. Beautiful scenery to sit out and have a drink or some lunch. Be prepared that on a sunny busy day food can take a long time and there is a note on the menu to make you aware of this. I ordered nachos with chilli which was cold due to the sour cream and guacamole being put on top, perhaps better on the side.

Lovely setting, which clearly makes it popular stop - we booked a table for bank holiday lunch. We immediately were offered a drink at 1.10 and we ordered food at 1.20 - I appreciate it was very busy, but we were not warned of any wait - 50 minutes later at 2.10 I asked a busy waitress if there was any issue with our order, and she said it was being plated and would be out in 5 minutes - 15 minutes later it came out - my scampi was cold and soggy and had to be sent back . The others food was fine - I never write these reviews but I do think there are lessons management could pick up on if they are interested - no one asked us if we were ok, offered us a 2nd drink or forewarned us of the wait - in fact they completely ignored us. I understand they were busy but imo that is not a good enough excuse - Either cater well and and offer decent service under the pressure or stop serving so many covers if you cant cope.

How can a pub that thinks they are so good fail to put an order through the till? After over 1 hours wait for pub food had to leave in total disgust at the service. Never again will they see my money as a result of this shoddy, amateurish experience. Too much competition out there to bother with these jokers again.

The Fleur de Lys pub is located in the village of Lowsonford right alongside the canal and in summer must be an excellent venue. Plenty of carparking space and with the option of dining outside when the weather permits. At the time of our visit we could see three or four longboats moored alongside the car park area making for good photo opportunities. We visited on a very wet Wednesday lunchtime and were greeted by friendly staff. The menu offered plenty of choice and I was pleased with my beef lasagne, salad and garlic bread. A very nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc made for an excellent hour and a half. The inside of the Fleur De Lys is rustic and doesn't appear to have changed much since I first visited there almost 50 years ago.Would recommend.

We've been regular visitors to the FDL for over 5 years and it has been our "go to" venue for good value food, friendly staff and good atmosphere. However our recent visit fell short of the standard we've come to expect. Service from the bar staff was adequate but with no spark of friendliness - possibly reflecting the demeanour of the bar supervisor (manager?) who appeared a little sullen. Our food was average - one of our main meals was incorrect although this was sorted quickly. The only high spot was the friendliness of the kitchen/table servers who did a great job. Overall though, this was an underwhelming experience. Since our visit we notice the recent reviews have been favourable so maybe it was just a blip. We do hope so

We wanted a brunch and two of our party asked for BLT sandwiches without the LT (just a bacon sandwich to you and me) and staff said "no problem". All of our lunch choices were complimented. Staff were pleasant and helpful and arrived with beer mats to put over our drinks to discourage wasps. We sat on a large patio with lots of tables all set out to allow lots of space for groups with children and dogs. Separated from the canal by a large lawn, the setting was quite idyllic on the hot summer day.One reservation came about when a table near us were served beer battered fish....the fish smell was somewhat overpowering and I would have chosen not to eat it (the menu does not say what kind of fish is served) ….you know what is said about fish...… if is smells wrong, do not eat it. Saying that I genuinely hope it was good and maybe a type of white fish that we are not used to in the east coast of Scotland.

We actually stopped here while looking for another Cask Marque pub. The setting was lovely, although was unable to enjoy it due to poor weather, and the sweet toothed Jaspers were out in force. The Inn has at least three ales on the pump. And also serve Aspells much to my Other half’s delight. We decided to eat here rather than searching for our initial targeted location. We ordered the white bait for starter to share, and glad we did share as the dish was more than ample. For the Main we both went for pie and chips. I had a chicken of Aragon and the Better half had The Freeranger. Seasoned very well and served with an abundant of steak chips. All Served piping hot. Will definitely come back again with friends and family. An idea for management: Jasper traps/deterrents around the garden area to be able enjoy it more.

We stumbled upon the Fleur De Lys whilst looking for another pub. It looked lovely from the outside so we popped in. We were not disappointed. It has a lovely country feel inside and the staff a really friendly and helpful. We drank Aspell’s which is our favourite cider so 10/10 for that and there was a good range of ales. We ordered whitebait to start and luckily we shared it as the portion was huge for a starter. It was absolutely delicious with a tasty side salad. We ordered a pie each for main and both of them were super tasty and piping hot. Can’t believe I live a 15 minute drive from here and have never been. Well recommend by myself and my partner and we will most certainly be back,

We returned here following a very positive experience in July 2018 - however we were disappointed with the service for my dad's birthday meal. The setting of the pub is lovely, and it's great to sit outside by the canal. However the service was quite slow, they would let regulars queue-jump at the bar and they missed part of our food order (luckily it was a side dish!) This might have been down to a skittles event being on, but the service was still very slow. Lastly, for the starter we ordered a sharer Camembert, which was served in container that showed that it was three days out of date. We only noticed half way through and, to be fair, it tasted absolutely fine, however we did point it out as an FYI rather than a complaint. Although the waitress apologised, she said she'd follow up with the chef - it was never mentioned again. Like I said, we weren't complaining but it would have been nice to have more acknowledgement. No complaints about the main dishes - they were very nice, hence the 3 star review. We will likely return at some point as, like I said, the first time we went it was great. However it's shame this time was so poor as it was for a birthday meal.

A pretty canal side pub which we never actually got to experience as we had such a poor welcome. It was pouring with rain on the day we visited and walked into the bar, we were meeting another couple of friends for lunch. The host/ manager looked up from where he was seated at the bar and said “We’re not open yet”, not till 11.00”. My companion and I both looked at our watches and found the time to be 10.56. We were rather surprised by this rudeness but asked “ Oh, okay then, may we use the toilet please?” “ Oh alright then” he replied obviously reluctantly. We thought he was joking but realised he wasn’t. So we decided not to risk a visit after all and went to the nearby Crabapple Mill, newly refurbished where we received a friendly welcome and excellent service.

Having heard several locals comment on the poor service received recently here, we wanted a quick supper after a busy week. We called and the pub was quiet, and it took longer to get a drink and someone to serve than the food to come. The tables were very dirty outside, again it was not particularly busy so should be no excuse. The wine was sharp and unpleasant and my usual tipple. The bar staff dont make you feel like you are welcomed customer - having had my own pub I realise that customer service is important. The food was disappointing, scampi that was overcooked and below average, the pastry on the pie crispy and lovely, but not a lot of meat, four pieces I think! The vegetables were very past their sell by date or had been cooked to within an inch of their lives. After a good start when these took over and up to a year or so ago, its really not a place that I will recommend or visit despite very local. Shame.

Popular canalside pub, we had drinks in the garden then came back for food in the evening. They advertise their pies strongly so it seemed rude not to try them, between four of us we tried three different pies, all were tasty and came with well cooked fresh veg and good standard chips, all in all a good pub meal. There was some confusion over our table booking, being shown to a table for three when we had booked for four and some difficulty with rining up four drinks in the afternoon

Although the pub advertises to be open until 11:00 pm, the staff refused to serve me drinks at 10:45pm (Saturday 6th July 2019). This was particularly annoying as my friends and I had left a function especially with the intention of having a last drink at Fleur de Lys. The staff however said last orders was a 10:30 and had no intention of being accommodating nor even apologetic. This establishment could have the prerogative to close when they wish, but not when they advertise a time (without condition) and then do something different. Not good.

We booked for a 12 o'clock Sunday lunch, on a recommendation from a family member, as we had a plane to catch from Birmingham later. We used Open Table to reserve on the TA site and it worked well even though two of us approaching from the Stratford direction were lured down lengthy single track lanes, favoured by pelotons of cyclists, and arrived over 15 minutes late. There are two carparks and my advice is don't go for the obvious one to the right of the pub as it is small and quite tight.A nice location by the canal, obviously a popular mooring stop for boaters, with many outside tables in a large well tended area. Even room for several horse riders and their mounts to graze while having a drink. We eschewed the traditional Sunday roasts as a bit heavy for our flight later. A feta cheese salad, a stuffed aubergine with cheese, and I split the healthy trend by having a very tasty home made steak and kidney pie with chunky chips and a rich gravy. The two hot dishes were served piping hot and delicious. And to cap it off, a well chilled Erdinger Alkohol Frei Isotonic drink, which was as tasty as a real Weiss Bier. The ladies shared a dessert and I had a decent coffee, made to order, a double espresso, hot and strong with hot water on the side to add to taste. A satisfying meal and the trip to the airport was easy and only took about 20 minutes.

We stayed at the marriot as a party of 6 and booked into the restaurant for our evening meal.Firstly let me just say that this review is not a critique of the few staff who struggled to make the evening work but of the restaurant management who left the restaurant so terribly understaffed. Upon arrival we where shown to our table in the centre of an incredibly brightly lit room..no table cloth..no place mats ..just cutlery ..then the harried waitress said that due to lack of staff it would be quicker if we ordered our own drinks from the bar and carried them through to the restaurant. The restaurant was chaotic and it felt at times like it could all erupt in chaos at any moment ( I can only imagine the madness of what was going on behind the scenes). The food arrived ..my £20 burger and fries was on a par with a wethetspoons effort..my sons £20 veggie burger was just slices of uncooked haloumi in a bun and my wife's fish was merely tepid..didn't have the heart to mention this to the waitress as it looked like that kind of comment would have resulted in aprons being thrown to the floor and staff going home....I felt sorry for a couple who looked like they where trying to have a romantic meal in a room that looked like it was offering emergency relief to the needy. We ate in the restaurant the next morning and that was a different story ..a lovely start to the day which was much needed after the overpriced wetherspoons the night before...
