Went for a meal last night while staying locally on our holiday and the food was excellent. Homemade pies made and cooked perfectly. The landlord keeps a good cellar and the Theakston went down a treat. Staff where very friendly and happy in their work. A lovely evening! Returned this weekend and yet again a lovely lunch, fabulous home cooked meal and excellent service. We love coming here! See you in October when we are staying local again. Thankyou ! Had Sunday lunch here today. The menu offered excellent choice of starters and main course, especially for my vegetarian friend. The starters were excellent as were the main courses of brie and red onion tart, and traditional roast beef. unfortunately too full for pudding from the tempting selection on offer. We were impeccably served by the waiter, Bradley who was polite and efficient, and by Grace ( manager?). We were very pleased that the Fleece is dog friendly, and indeed the whole atmosphere was friendly and welcoming for humans too.

The room we stayed in was in the courtyard, separate from the main building. The room was lovely and clean with a comfy bed , and the bathroom was massive . Nice touch with biscuits included with the tea and coffee facilities. We ate here in the evening and the food was good and the staff were all lovely and friendly. Out the back is a large outdoor seating area which was really nice and the surrounding village was pretty with a little beck running through and so peaceful.

Rooms where lovely and clean with huge bathroom. No wifi. Food was nice but took nearly an hour to get it and only us that needed food but my father wanted fish and chips and we got told they was no fish left and I wanted pie and potatoes but sadly had no potatoes. Service was very friendly, a young man who brought the food was so amazing and kind and apologized for the wait. The lady at the bar was chatty and knew the locals so was nice.

This turned out a little disappointing which was not what we expected given its great reputation. We went for Sunday Dinner which we thought we couldn’t go wrong with. Firstly the Yorkshire Puddings were burnt to a crisp which we mentioned to the girl serving . However at the end of the meal we were asked if we had enjoyed the meal and we said that other than the burnt Yorkshire puddings yes ! The response was if we hand mentioned it they would replaced them . We had mentioned it !! We had ordered lamb in the main and asked for mint sauce we were told that they had been particularly busy on lamb and as such they had ran out of mint sauce!! Surely if you are serving 40 portions of lamb you would carry 40 portions of mint sauce?? The roast potatoes were super and the vegetables also were good but burnt Yorkshire puddings is unforgivable and not having mint sauce……

A true East Yorkshire hidden GEM. I was doing a walk and we stopped in the village, we had pre ordered our food, but this did not take anything away from the quality of the service. We were welcomed on our entry by very attentive staff, who asked how the walk had been and answered every question asked by the group. The range of beers was good and reasonably priced. I had the Veltins and it was really nice. The food came out on good time after our arrival, I had a pie, chicken ham and leek and it was served with chips and the most delicious gravy, that given the chance I would have drank it. The pastry around the pie was beautiful and the entire meal was really really nice, all the food that came out was good. The pudding menu has a broad selection on that all sounded nice. I will go back and take the family there as it was that good

Called here for an evening meal, to say the least I won’t be returning. Ordered 3 sizzlers and one steak. The sizzlers weren’t even sizzling and the sauce was watery, not tasty at all. The steak was poor quality, chips were nice think that was the only good thing. Asked for no peas and it came with peas. Slow service, had to ask for menus, very old decor. Beer garden looked nice. Waitress was in a hurry to take our order and recommend something that was only going to be fast in cooking rather than anything that would take time. She wasn’t very clued up on the menu. Overall just average pub food and will not be returning.

However our Friends were held up due to an incident on the Motorway and arrived later than planned. I explained to the young lady behind the bar and they were great and held our table until our friends arrived despite being busy. Lovely ales and meals followed and service was great. The Saturday night we had planned to eat in York but one of our party didn't feel to well so three of us turned up at the Fleece without booking but again they did us proud. We did notice that the pub is up to let as the current landlord and family are off to pastures new in the new year. I hope that who ever takes the helm will maintain the standard as it is now.

Called in for a drink following a 2hr walk. Sat outside in the beer garden which was nice (lovely weather too). The Ales were very delish. We visited again on Wednesday evening for dinner and were greeted and served by very friendly staff. Good choice of menu and good portion sizes and reasonable prices. Hubby and I both enjoyed our food and wouldn't hesitate in returning.

An excellent Sunday lunch with all the trimmings. Old style layout and hand pulled pints if required. The sign outsides says to let so lets hope it continues in the same vein.Well worth a visit.

We had dinner here with three generations of the family. The food was excellent - good home cooking, and the service was both efficient and friendly. We were all very happy with our meals.

Had a meal here whilst staying at Wolds Edge Shepherds Hut, nice traditional pub, very welcoming & good food. What more could you want.

An authentic and cosy country pub. We spent a very enjoyable Friday evening at the Fleece. It has a great atmosphere - it was busy but not overcrowded. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was also very good. In particular I recommend the black pudding starter - absolutely delicious, though it is huge!

£50 a head bought dried up pate, shoe leather duck breast, mediocre veg and microwaved portions of Christmas pud. This was supposed to be a treat to save all the prep and clearing up for us - a very expensive mistake and an abysmal offering from this village pub. First and last time!

My partner and I had a good evening meals at The Fleece Inn. My partner had the steak and stilton pie and I the goats cheese tart. When my partner placed our food order at the bar, he was informed that the pie was still cooking in the oven if he did not mind waiting. He said to me that definitely shows this is a home made pie and was definitely worth waiting for. Good portions all round, but we found that everywhere we ate in York was good portions, it must be the "Yorkshire way" Would recommend to anyone this establishment with it's, good food, good wine and beer, friendly staff and a very good atmosphere (and that is not all down to the ghosts that walk these dwellings).

Visited for our evening meal over the weekend. Food was lovely and plentiful. The garlic mushroom starter was lovely but not enough garlic for my liking - however that is my own opinion.I had the fish pie for my main and it was divine! Lots of fish (I've eaten the same dish in other restaurants and there has been the tiniest amount of fish which is disappointing given it is supposed to be fish pie!) My husband had steak pie and again he said the amount of steak in the pie was enough to feed a small army! (although he ate the lot :-) )Staff were friendly and prompt - all in all a good experience was had.We did hear a few dishes were sold out but as this didn't affect us directly, we weren't too fussed. I can imagine it would be disappointing if you did want those dishes though.
