Been here several times, always had to reserve a table. Excellent food with good gluten free options. Will definitely eat here again.

We drove here for lunch and was not disappointed. Really good selection of meals from fish and chips to house curry. They also have a good selection of gluten free meals. We had liver and onions, fish and chips with gluten Free onion rings and a gluten free steak pie and mash. Friendly service and good value for money

Visited on a Sunday in late January 2025. Nice place, warm and friendly. I'm not a fussy eater and could easily have eaten anything from the menu. I chose the steak pie with chips and veg/gravy. Absolutely delicious and washed down with a nice beer. I'm looking forward to trying the haddock and chips next. Highly recommend.

Had a lovely time celebrating my dad's birthday and my aunt's belated birthday. Food was delicious was and very filling. Wonderful portions, and just beautiful quality. The service was excellent, we all had a wonderful time. Thank you to the staff who carried the birthday cake out, it was very appreciated.

I have been coming to this beautiful pub for years and never had a bad meal, but unfortunately tonight we were all disappointed. The fish was full of bones to the point the 3 people who ordered it gave up. I had the salmon with potatoes and brocoli which wasn't very hot when it arrived. The service was slow, we waited a long time for the food to be served. Not a cheap meal to have so many problems.

A hidden gem of a Sunday roast venue, I've visited on 4 occasions throughout the year, and each time the Sunday lunch is as close as you get to home-made roast. We visited with relatives who live nearby and I always ask that we use the Railway for lunch when we visit. It is also very reasonably priced.

Never fails to deliver on 5 star food stake pie melts in your mouth.i ordered the fish and chips with mussy peas. Take note proper chips done just how they should be nice and brown staff so professional in what they do .this is why railway is so popular .

It was my dad’s 80th and we had Not been to The Railway for a long while but Due to our Normal go to Pub for family meals and celebrations being full we ended up at the Railway and how glad we did , the food was absolutely outstanding at very reasonable prices, Really friendly staff , my brother leaned across the table and said to me “Did you know it was this good “ 🤣 we know were we will be going the next time we want some nice food 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🍺🍺

What a beautiful place went for an evening meal. Very cozy pub. The food was excellent. Staff great. Didn't stay over so can't comment on the rooms as we didn't stay.

Lovely Sunday lunch excellent service especially Chloe who is very professional,efficient and friendly. My husband had the steak,Guinness and blackpudding pie which was the special, best pie he had ever had!! Highly recommend

It's been a while since we last visited the Railway Inn - It's always been one of our, if not our top favourite place to eat. Well after a break and fancying a Sunday roast after the gym, we made our way to this beautiful pub. As per usual the quality of the food was first class, and this was also the case regarding the price. I had the mixed meat roast, and my partner the roast pork. Both were piled high and presented lovely, and piping hot. We washed it down with 2 pints of Inches Cider, and 2 half a lager & black - this made way for the apple crumble & custard that followed. We won't leave it so long to visit next time.

Fantastic food, value and service. Completely recommend but please book to avoid disappointment.

We booked for family meal to celebrate our 50 th anniversary. There was 21 of us and we were looked after brilliant. The staff were excellent and the food was great. The food was all brought out at same time. We have not been for quite a while but would advise booking as it's gets very busy from opening till closing. Lovely country pub.

Great location to have both refreshments inside and out, which serves excellent food, closed Monday and Tuesday. Comfortable sitting, great refreshing lager with the dog. All in a good refreshing stop while doing the old railway line walk or having a meal. Update Had a birthday date tonight. Yes, CJ came along as well. Couldn't leave him after his recent operation. Food, service 5 star, the dog bed for CJ was a lovely thought from the staff, made him extra comfortable. We never heard a sound from him all night. Fantastic!

Super pub restaurant in a rural location, excellent food with excellent value for money, staff are always very friendly and helpful.

Really disappointing visit to the Railway Inn, it was recommended to us so we thought we would pay it a visit. We was rudely welcomed and just sat down(which seemed to be some effort to the staff) the owner was rude to our children as they was on there way back from the toilet and we felt rushed throughout. The food was below par, undercooked potatoes and veg and fatty meat was really disappointing when paying £15 for a Sunday lunch, you can’t charge premium prices and deliver sub par food. I wouldn’t recommend!

service was a good standard and the food was excellent, Went for a family sunday lunch while down in skirlaugh for a wkend family birthday. All fresh home cooked food, decent sized portions . It was very busy so waited a little while to get food but i cant say it wasnt worth the wait, and very reasonabley priced

Donna and i visited Sunday 13th October for Donna's birthday. I went for a Sunday lunch of Pork, and Donna decided to have the homemade steak pie. Firstly both were presented beautifully and far above what you would expect in a pub, if that does not sound insulting to the hosts. The Sunday lunch was absolutely beautiful, the meat was tender and plenty of it, the veg was cooked just right for me, well every part was so very nice and moreish. Donna said her pie was stunning with the meat so tender with melt in the mouth pastry. We normally do not have puddings but just could not resist, the apple and rhubarb with custard was a lovely treat for me, and Donna had the cheesecake of the day, salted caramel, and as an added extra the staff who were lovely and attentive and friendly throughout, brought out her pudding with a lit birthday candle in, which really did show that special touch. A big shout out to the chefs behind the scene for a cracking job, and to Luke, Phil,Rhys and the lady who tended our table and made our visit so relaxing, didnt catch her name, but thank you so much to all. It was our first visit but wont be our last.

What a lovely little find! Family run business for 25 years! The food is incredible and service was impeccable. Very accommodating on a Saturday evening despite us not having booked in and staff were great with the kids too. Highly recommend, we can't wait to go back!

Lovely food in relaxed atmosphere

Had a very last minute visit here on recommendation, did not disappoint. Roast and one other meal too full for dessert. Staff muti tasking and busy, attention to needs, nothing too much trouble even on a bank holiday. We will be back.

Just got back from The Railway Inn at New Ellerby. My friend and I both had the roast beef dinner.Plenty of beef and veg,the cauliflower cheese was very nice too.Yorkshire puddings were enormous,an excellent meal ,no room for a sweet.Staff all very friendly helpful and worked hard.Ive never seen so many people having a Sunday meal like today its a very popular restaurant.

Sunday lunch is excellent so much so we go regularly. The food is always high quality and there is plenty of choice. Staff are friendly and attentive especially Sharon who goes above and beyond.

Outstanding roast dinner with all the trimmings. Perfectly cooked meat with fresh vegetables and a huge Yorkshire pudding. The service from Sharon and the girls was faultless. Highly recommended.

We visited this pub for dinner whilst on holiday. We were greeted by Molly who was very friendly and quickly showed us to our table. Food and service was so good, we returned the following evening. Again we were served by Molly and Sharon. Will definitely return when visiting the area again.

Called in for lunch greeted by Molly ordered drinks were at our table in no time the pub was very busy which is always a good sign we are here on holiday we opted for the steak pie seemed very popular and hi can see why tasty with plenty of steak in both staff that we’re serving on front end were very pleasant and efficient wish I had a local like this .

Went for a lunchtime celebration with wife for our anniversary. Can't praise the meal enough. Tasted fantastic and they don't scrimp on the portions. In fact one of only a few places where l couldn't finish everything. If your thinking of going l would recommend booking as it filled up pretty quickly while we were there.

Lovely bike ride from Hornsea to the Railway Inn at New Ellerby along the transpennine trail. Called in for lunch. Food was great - home made and big portions. Molly was really friendly and welcoming. Definitely will go back next time we're here 😊

Farmhouse pie has degraded in flavour and filling since the last year. I'm not saying the pie was 365 days old I'm saying over the course of a year since I last arrived. There's not much flavour in the pie as to when I very first arrived last year then July this year portions got smaller, the filling had lost its nice taste. Work needs to be done to make these pies top notch again

We were in room 3 with the roof balcony which was lovely, views amazing. It's onto a road but very quiet not a busy road. Food was lovely. We stayed for breakfast, highly recommended. Staff lovely. Dog friendly too. Perfect!

We have dined here previously with no complaints so decided to treat my parents to a meal here. Upon arriving, we followed in what appeared to be a hen party of approx. 12 females who were staying at the Happy House behind the pub. At the time of the booking, a dog friendly table had been requested so we were seated within the ‘dog friendly’ area which consisted of two tables in close proximity to one another outside the entrance to the restaurant. We were then told someone would be across to take our order. The other ‘dog friendly’ table was occupied, with the occupants having two dogs with them. When we sat, one of their dogs and our dog did bark briefly at one another but soon settled. Unfortunately, as our dog moved, the ‘barking’ dog at the next table barked once again. We didn’t see this as a problem, but the young lady said she would take the dog outside. Within seconds of her saying that to us, a waitress was at their table saying how they have a bark policy – three barks and they’re out (we didn’t see this displayed anywhere) and more or less shamed the poor lady into taking her dog outside saying ‘people don’t like the noise’. The attitude and manner from this waitress were uncalled for and the lady’s friend quickly followed with the other dog. We exchanged comments saying if people shout or when the hen party gets rowdy (which it did) they would not be told to sit outside. Due to the lack of staff, no one came to take our order so my partner went to order at the bar where one of the hen party insisted on making it known that it was her turn to be served before he was. We did have about a 40-minute wait for the food, but it was fresh, well cooked and delicious once it arrived. Once eaten, we decided on indulging in dessert. One of our party asked a question about a specific ingredient in one of the desserts so a barmaid kindly went to find out. Two portions of this dessert were then ordered along with other desserts. After about 10 minutes of waiting, we were then told they didn’t even have any of that dessert left and offered an alternative. Before the desserts arrived, the waitress who’d previously shamed the dog owner to leave, came across and more or less threw the spoons onto the table. Unfortunately, dogs do bark and I completely understand that not everyone likes the noise especially if it’s continuous, but you shouldn’t welcome dogs if they are to be banished to the outside if a random bark happens more than three times. Although the food was delicious, the service and manners from certain staff members were uncalled for and due to this, we are unlikely to return.

Food was lovely and fast to come out, everything we ordered was delicious and more than we could eat! The only small detail missed was we were sat for a while with our finished plates wanting to order desserts and drinks. Other than that staff were polite and friendly

Called for lunch. Special menu very good and reasonable. Main menu very good too. Lovely place, very clean, cheerful staff and enjoyed it so much we have booked our car club event there in August. You won't be disappointed.

Fantastic traditional country pub serving delicious home cooked food. It's really nice to see an establishment so well looked after, clearly the owners care a great deal and invest money in keeping it looking great. Food was beautiful with large portions. Staff were friendly and helpful. Couldn't fault a thing. Thanks for a lovely visit, we'll definitely return if we ever come back to the area.

Unfortunately, a rather disappointing experience after having a friend recommend this local pub to us. We had pre booked a table and was pointed to where we were going to be sitting for the night. Before taking our seat, we were promptly asked if we would like to order a drink, having never stepped foot in the pub before, we did not know our drinks options. After taking a seat, a waitress immediately came over and asked us for our drinks order, we still weren’t ready. 2 more minutes after the encounter, we were asked again - however, bear in mind, we had never received a drinks menu! 3 times in under 5 minutes we had been asked for a drink, when we clearly stated we were not ready. Our food and drinks order was swiftly taken after about 5 minutes of being seated. However, the wait time for our food was very slow. Taking about 40 minutes to arrive, even though the pub was not in its peak hour. During our meal, we were not checked on once to see how our food was. If the waitress had checked, she would’ve seen we had left the majority of it, as we were unhappy with the meals. She clearly knew we were there as she was wiping tables around us. After we had finished, we made our way to the bar and the waitress was extremely rude. I asked her for our bill and she read out our bill total with no please at all! She cut to the chase with a simple ‘£50’, and handed the card machine over. Simple manners do not cost anything when working in the hospitality sector. With still no checks as to how our food was, and no thank you when leaving the pub, we left extremely disappointed and have no will to return.

My experience at the Railway Inn was one of the worst I've ever had at a restaurant. The staff were incredibly rude and argumentative when I simply asked to speak to the chef about a complaint I had with my meal. Instead of trying to resolve the issue, they became defensive and dismissive. I felt like I was being treated like an inconvenience rather than a paying customer. I would strongly advise anyone considering eating at the Railway Inn to think twice. There are many other restaurants in the area that offer far better food and service.

Had a lovely family meal here on new year's eve , everyone enjoyed there food and we had good service ,food came fresh and hot and not to long await considering there was 14 of us . Recommend the steak pies ,mine was gluten free and was delicious, thank you

This is a lovely rural village pub with delicious food. Brilliant steak pie, homemade & always spot on! Prices are very reasonable & it has a nice friendly & welcoming atmosphere. Never stayed there, as live local.

We had the pub recommended by many friends... We were not disappointed it was fantastic ...really lovely staff and a very warm atmosphere... My husband is gluten free and he was catered for brilliantly and the food was lovely (thankyou) We will most definitely be going back
