I could have and maybe should have left this review sooner, but I decided to calm down and write it when I wasn’t so upset and cross. Really poor, embarrassing experience, poor food, service. I’d booked Sunday lunch for 14/16 people to celebrate a big birthday. Arrived to find tables not laid. I asked for menus several times, reiterated that we had a vegan and a vegetarian guests. Starting with their meals…whatever was served looked like mashed potato with peas in coated in batter or something. Served with veg….eventually. However, the vegan was brought cauli cheese…..she’s VEGAN! Every meal was brought swimming in thick gravy, the veg arrived after some of the meals were eaten. I dread to thin’ id asked for a GF meal. My daughter and I asked for beef but were given lamb in disguise which must’ve been sliced off a lamb shank. Some people had a half of carrot, most didn’t. Ask for condiments…..no! Apparently they didn’t have them but the next day when I went to complain quietly (I didn’t see the new manager) I was told that not only were there vegetarian & vegan options in the freezer but there were also the sauces which had been asked for. Obviously they couldn’t be bothered with a large booking. Yes, I understand that there was a new ‘manager’ but as a new manager, she should’ve been ensuring the meals were served correctly instead of blaming staff. I spent a lot on money on the meals which, if the service and quality of the food had been better, would have been more. Thankfully, I had prepared things at home so we all retired back for desert and drinks. After speaking to the manager on the phone, all I got was a sorry and excuses.

Pre-booked for Sunday lunch at 12 noon as wanted a quiet time/area for our nervous dog to accompany us. Greeted by young, friendly & efficient front of house team. Served drinks at the bar and given the lunch menu. Ordered Lamb shank for myself and beef for hubby. Our meals were served promptly with on hot plates with: Roasties, Yorkshire pudding, gravy, stuffing and a HUGE roasted parsnip that was actually thoroughly cooked through! Other vegetables were served separately: Carrot + swede mash, broccoli and cauliflower cheese, ALL cooked to perfection. Couldn't finish all our meal so took half the lamb shank and a fair amount of veg home for later. BEST Sunday lunch I have eaten for a Lonnnnnng time! Thank you so much.

The Roos Arms is a traditional village pub. There is a good range of beers, lager and cider, including 2 hand-pulled cask conditioned real ales. The cask ale was excellent when I called in. There is a nice bar and room next to it with a pool table. Up some steps at the front, there is another room mainly for meals, which are served Thursday to Sunday. There is covered outside seating and a beer garden. A nice welcoming pub, also dog friendly.

We visited the Roos Arms for the first time as a party of three for Friday evening at 18:30. We had made a reservation in advance. When we arrived the car park and pub were full to bursting and we had to find parking on the road. The pub was noisy with music and chatter, a pleasant surprise compared to some pubs which are often empty and lacking atmosphere. Despite making a reservation it wasn't checked. We were a party of three but two of us arrived before the other and we were taken to a table for two. After explaining we were expecting another party, we were shown to a table in the back room which had to be laid for us. The waitress explained it was unexpectedly busier than usual which probably explains the quite slow service. Staff were very polite and helpful when you saw one. The menu is basic. Don't go expecting a big choice because there isn't one. Having said that, what we ordered was good, the starters being better than the mains. The majority of the main courses were fried. Towards the end of our evening the crowds had dispersed and we got talking to Caroline, the landlady. Who apologised for putting us in the back room. That hadn't been an issue at all though. We finished our meal sitting in the main pub area, with coffee by the fire. The pub is on several levels with steps to each. If you have mobility problems this could be an issue. I walk with a stick and did struggle. We all had one soft drink, a starter, main and coffee and paid £28 each.

Came here on Saturday 4th of September whilst we were on a family break, 2 adults and 2 kids. I found the pub on a random Google search so didn't know what to expect but the fact they had a small and fresh sounding menu meant we had to give it a try and we are glad we did. We rang and booked as we always do and on arrival we had a very warm welcome. The kids were offered games immediately so they was occupied for a while. The special was a braised beef ragu with homemade tagliatelle so me and my partner shared this as a starter along with a homemade bread board and delicious hummus. They was both very delicious and met our espectations. We also had a bottle of very delicious wine and I was happy to see beer from Camden brewery on tap. The kids had mac and cheese and chicken strips which were all clearly homemade and done properly. For mains we had a venison burger which was one of the best we've ever had. Our other main was a smoked garlic kiev with wild mushroom fricassee and pomme puree which again was all homemade, the flavours were very good but the 1 downside to it was it was quite a dry dish and we would have liked just a small amount of just with it or some sort of sauce (this is not a complaint just our personal opinion?) the staff were excellent and service was great, all in all we had a fantastic meal all in for just under £100, well worth every penny and we will return if we ever come back up this end. Big thankyou to you guys and big respect. We would have liked to see a nice fish dish on the menu but again its no complaint its just what we like. Thanks again for your great service and great food. Eating out is our hobby and it was really nice to find somewhere doing it properly.

Amazing food - far above normal pub grub - really tasty, hot and beautifully presented. The festive menu is so good. Roast potatoes are fab, the monk fish was cooked perfectly, the turkey was melt in the mouth, and the game pie was beautiful. A...

Fantastic village pub, more than welcoming, with a roaring log burner - much needed for the snowy weather in which we visited. We dined there for three nights whilst staying in Roos village. The food was excellent, nice and homely and plenty of it. I...

Worst pub ever, put into a room with a couple, couldn't eat because of there really bad attitude, felt so uncomfortable, felt very intimidated, because of the man saying he was going to smack someone, we all felt so uneasy, because of this couple, they were loud

Really disappointing visit to the Railway Inn, it was recommended to us so we thought we would pay it a visit. We was rudely welcomed and just sat down(which seemed to be some effort to the staff) the owner was rude to our children as they was on there way back from the toilet and we felt rushed throughout. The food was below par, undercooked potatoes and veg and fatty meat was really disappointing when paying £15 for a Sunday lunch, you can’t charge premium prices and deliver sub par food. I wouldn’t recommend!
