Average. Nothing in particular wrong if you're happy with very ordinary pub-style fish and chips. Companion happier with his choice of monkfish and prawn curry, which he thought excellent and I pricey.

Our experience at this restaurant was mediocre. The food tasted like something had left the pan a while ago, which was very unfortunate.. Staff promptly provided us with the bill when we mentioned that we didn’t want the dessert menu. The overall service felt rushed, as they were serving a lot of customers simultaneously.

Travelled 36 miles specifically to eat in this restaurant. However, it was quite disappointing. The prices are very high. The fish and chips were OK but we have had better. I had to send mine back, as the chips were not hot, and the mushy peas were cold. When my plate came back, the chips were better, but the mushy peas were still cold. The drink I had (Bon Accord Rhubarb Soda) was really good. The food was very average and our bill was almost £47. We'll not rush back.

My Wife and I decided to visit the Fishmarket for an outdoor lunch on 8th May. We waited approx 20minutes to be served which is quite normal and expected. The two battered Haddock and chips were cooked fresh and to order. However, it all went downhill from this point onwards. My wife's fish was well overcooked, making the fish very dry. The batter was dark brown, hard and inedible. We thought about returning the fish, but decided against waiting another 20 minutes as we had another pressing engagement. This is really disappointing as we have visited the Fishmarket before and never had this unsatisfactory experience. The takeaway was much quieter than usual, however, we were past peak service time placing our order at approximately 2:15pm In conclusion. Disappointing experience especially from a Fish' chip takeaway that prides itself on it's usually excellent reputation

We chose this place based on the excellent reviews that have been confirmed to be right. The food is excellent and the staff very kind. Highly recommended

Would give this no stars if I could. £63 Spent on a fish supper and two calamari suppers and monkfish supper, to be served alongside frozen chips. The batter on the fish was all batter hardly any fish Don't get me started on the calamari that was basically Also all very greasy. We all ate a bit of our suppers as we were hungry but the rest went in the bin. Should have went straight back in with them. Absolutely disgusting. This place used to good and I would have highly recommend it but now avoid!!!

Late afternoon meal. We were seated and offered water. I opted for sparkling. I got still. Two of us ordered large breaded haddock, I took standard. There was little difference in size and the large wss not as big as expected. Our friend's fish was thin and dry and although the batter was tasty, my fish was also on the dry side. Chips were good. After the meal, when plates had been removed, we were not offered a dessert menu or coffee. There were plenty of serving staff around yet no-one offered the bill, even after we had put our coats on. Only on looking at the bill when we got home I found a 10 per cent "discretionary" service charge had been added. All in all, not a memorable experience.

If you visit the Royal Yacht carry on to Newhaven for lunch here. Amazingly fresh fish, the monkfish curry was so tasty and my mussels the best I’ve had. Very unpretentious simple decor friendly staff. Can take away fish and chips and sit outside but rather chilly in February although people were sat outside.

Me & my wife Went in the other day, we had toast with crab sourdough bread , 2 beer's one gin & tonic. two cod & chips with mushy peas & tartar sauce Nice food but then went to pay the bill And a man possibly called Robin with a mask & cape took £78 off up Over priced

Our go to place when we are in Edinburgh meeting up with a friend. Never been disappointed with the service or the food, and once again we had spot on service and delicious food. Thank you!

I have been to The Fishmarket many times and have never been let down - it is simply the best Chippy in Edinburgh. The food is cooked fresh and the service is friendly and efficient. To be honest, I have never sat in, as I tend to go when it is nice weather so that I can sit closer to the sea - fish always tastes better when you are as close to the sea as possible. I always have the fish - which is always flakey and tasty. But my partner has often had the squid which comes with a wonderful dipping sauce (so much so that my Nephew kept a piece of the squid in his pocket whilst he played on the park so that he could have it later).

Excellent service, great food, very friendly but not over attentive staff, great atmosphere and buzz around the place. Look forward to visiting again

We called in on spec and were lucky enough to get a table, only just surfing the formation of a queue. Really affable, friendly staff. Attentive without being intrusive, enquiring without pressurising. And now, onto the best bit, the food. We had the monkfish curry. It was, without doubt, one of the most pleasant curries we've ever had. Tasty, spicy without being oppressive and full of fish. Having this with some bread meant we couldn't find room for a dessert. Well worth a visit - and probably a revisit!

Estaba en la zona de negocios, así que entró (a las 3 pm) para una comida rápida, ya que se veía muy bien desde el exterior. Sólo una persona delante de mí y un par detrás. Pedido una pequeña porción de patatas fritas (£ 3. 50 - bastante justo) y mayonesa (£ 1. 50 -pensaba que debía ser casero- no lo era! ) Las patatas fritas se cocinaron bien sabe cuándo y recalentado - seco / arrugado y probado de grasa vieja. Comí unos pocos solo para saciar el hambre y tiré el resto - ¡tan contento de no gastar más!

Pasé más de 18 £ cocinado peor que una comida económica de supermercado. Como algo fuera del congelador y sobrecalentado que pedí en Uber come lo único decente fue el mayo la comida estaba todo cocinado y duro.

Fabulous Service = superb, stave very attentive- Amy was particularly nice. Menu = great Food = Spot on, my bass over new potatoes and samphire was cooked to perfection View over the estuary with the sun going down topped it all. Went last night for a large fish supper. Usually brilliant. Not this time. Fish batter was rock hard and actually splintered when cut into. Fish inside was dry and tasteless. I think the Fish must have been sitting under the heat lights for far too long. I did order a large fish supper to the fryer as I went in. Don't know how I ended up with such a disaster of a fish. The batter just crumbled away leaving the dry fish. So very disappointing as usually enjoy fish supper from there. Not this time. At this price going yo give somewhere else a try. Actually threw most of it away - so very expensive for some chips !!!!! Get back to serving delicious fish and chips.
