Got Mum steak pudding With chips The pudding was squashed and the chips were greasy and stale when I opened the tray. Disappointing

Steak Pudding and Chips. I really liked the rich, soft pudding. The chips were excellent and a decent portion size with a good amount of salt and vinegar. Exactly the kind of food expected from a proper chippy and great quality. Fast, efficient service by friendly staff. A clean, modern place. Quiet around lunchtime.

Decided to try here for a change from the usual chippy we go to as I'd read the good reviews but it was disappointing. We shared SMALL fish, chips, peas n sausage £9.60. There was loads left as it was greasy and unpleasant. I don't know if the oil needed changing? On the plus side the peas were nice!

I had a lightly battered fish. It was delicious. Can't fault it at all. In fact it's the best fish I've had in a long time

For the best part of twenty-odd years, this place was poor, but fair play to the new owners. They've filled a hole in what has been a dreadful town for proper chippies in recent history. I always give somebody two or three chances before offering opinion, but after the third time I'm happy to say that the chips and the gravy are the best I've had in years. Anywhere. If you haven't been since it became the New Fishician, give it a whirl. You won't be disappointed.

Best place in Newton. Fish was huge, curry and chips were delicious. Great service with a smile. The young lady who served me was very pleasant. Would highly recommend

Wow, I take my lad to hope academy on a Thursday so always have tea while I’m waiting. Stopped at this Chippy. I’m not exaggerating the best fish n Chips I’ve ever had. Staff really friendly clean and it’s run like a well oiled machine 👌👌👌😁😁😁

Having lived in the south for many years and here for a family visit, we were recommended this venue for classic "northern" fish and chips. Not disappointed. Beautifully fried large fish with a plentiful helping of chips. Nice people. No brainer.

This place has taken advantage of the new plastic legislation by increasing prices and getting very little for you money. £3 for large chips which is basically a tray of chips that was considered a small portion a 18 months ago. Rip off.

£3 for a large chips and this is what you get. Yes the cost of living has risen, but so do the prices. Pure greed. The chips were not good, lots were hard and tasted raw, and they were stupidly greasy. Everything we had was greasy. We won’t be back!

Fantastic lunch today from this excellent take away. Had the sausage chips and gravy. Great portions, very tasty. Go on give it a try. I'll be back for more. Keep up the good work.

Called in for 2 fish n chips, £14.80. Won't be calling again , fish n chips was very nice, it's the price , once fish n chips was a cheap meal , now it's not here.

Fish, chips and curry £9 ! More batter than fish, soggy chips cooked in aged oil. Topped with the tiniest spoonful of curry. I am 60 and single, why such big portions, (apart from the curry), no advice given at all. They take your money with a wry smirk. NEVER AGAIN.

We used to use this chippy every time we went to Haydock Races but will not be going again since our last visit. The food quality has deteriorated somewhat and I can only agree with a previous reviewer regarding the new owner. One unpleasant,miserable, ignorant man. I would suggest culinary tuition and an urgent visit to charm school

Best fish and chips in Merseyside.

Really nice chips but the scouse man (possibly the owner) is so miserable and unfriendly. Heard him bad mouth his customers on more than one occasion. Makes you reluctant to go in. Portion sizes vary depending who serves you but usually decent size. Every time I've been there's been a different woman serving whilst the miserable man ignores you until he begrudingly asks if anyone is having fish. Neutral review as I do think the food is good just a shame about the owner bloke.

Always friendly staff. Good menu at reasonable prices. A popular place to eat. I used to visit at least once a week with Grandchildren after swimming. More often it's hubby now yet when I visited after a break, I was recognised and made to feel very welcome. The owner asked about the grandchildren as he remembered them too. Our favourite chippy.

Really lovely female manager. We had a good chat. People in hospitality work really bloody hard, make sure you bear that in mind when you're using their services! Bloody fantastic tea by the way, best chippy in Newton by far.

So disappointed that this once excellent chippy has lost it for me. Don’t know what oil they are now using but it just overwhelms the food, chips really pale too. Given it two or three tries recently but won’t be returning unfortunately.

Fantastic chip shop we had a jubilee party on Thursday and ordered food they were really helpful and friendly and most of all the food was delicious would recommend the fishian and will be going there again thank you so much to all the staff

Went in on fireworks night, and my partner said he watched as the man behind the counter wiped his nose on a cloth, and then used that cloth to wipe down the whole work-surface. In corona times. Portion sizes were also small for the price, they only took cash, and they shut at 8pm.

Just had the Gyros from here and it was amazing. Whilst we were waiting for our food to be cooked we got to sample some very tasty battered curried fish bites. The chips were also the best we’ve had in a very long time. We will be returning very soon. Thanks guys 👍🏻

fish is nice when you dont get wire in it that cuts your mouth when complane you get no response also can not cook chips will not go to it agane

They are the best chippy I have ever been to. When I had no cash because I use card they gave me a burger. And asked me to pay later and I am 14 years old and they are so nice.

Went for a Gyros, as i recently experienced an excellent one in Mcr. Very disappointed.... No chips in it (Meaning it was just a chicken kebab) and a portion size for a dwarf on a diet. Ended up filling up on a few slices of toast.....

Doing the Pitta Gyros as a special is a great idea but it needs to be a bigger portion and include chips - since that’s what comes in a proper Gyros (otherwise it’s just a chicken kebab). Friendly staff as always and will give it another go for sure.

The food is amazing, especially the fish. It's under new ownership now and you can tell that he cares about the quality of food being served.

The chickhen Gyros is a must. Never tasted anything so good for a while,the sauce leaves a after taste that tingles the tongue. I also had a fish which was crispy n light. Cant wait to go again

Visited on a recommendation after a trip to Earlestown Market. Can honestly say, the best fish and chips outside of Whitby and Scarborough. The chips and fish were cooked from fresh, absolutely delicious, superb quality. The owners were really nice. After devouring the fish and chips, I had to go back into the shop to tell the owners how much we enjoyed it. I would highly recommend trying if you're in the area.

First time for chip shop chips for me in years! For some reason I fancied some so much it was worthwhile waiting in the queue. Luckily, an old neighbour was in front of me and we had a quick catch up. Only chips for me now that I am mostly vegan. I never liked fish anyway, but my husband enjoyed his and the mushy peas too. The cat even got some fish and devoured it.😄

I left work and traveled 25 mins on my lunch break to today. Time was about 12.50pm I qued up as normal for about 15 mins and ordered tray I donna meat and a carton off curry but was told my the lady they have been to busy and haven't had time to put any donna meat on?? I am not complaining about the food here because its outstanding but yo say I feel let down after me journey was understatement. If they don't have time to do donna meat on there lunch time opening please just let us know so we don't have wanted trips .

This is the best fish & chip shop around and has been for many years. Fish cooked fresh as you order, chips always cooked perfectly. We ordered fish & chips for 10 people recently and every portion was 100% perfection. The lovely owner even threw in a bag of chip barns to complete our meals. Staff here are always friendly. The place is spotless and the food fab... what's not to love!!

Have not had fish and chips from a takeaway for many years, so entered the Fishician feeling a bit unsure. I need not have worried. My order was taken immediately, with some helpful input from the serving lady about the amount to order (I was going to have ended up with far too much otherwise). As it was, one portion of chips was more than enough for the two of us as I had ordered two large fish plus peas. The fish was lovely, batter not too thick, flesh firm and white. In future if I order I will know to request a small size portion of some items!

I had been to a family event in Newton and I was walking back to the bus stop on the High Street. The beer had been flowing freely that day which gave me an appetite. There was a lovely aroma coming from the Fishician so I crossed the road to take a look. I ordered fish & chips in a tray and ate them as I walked to be bus stop. I had to let one bus go by as I was still enjoying this lovely food. Some of the best fish and chips I have eaten from a chip shop. A really nice find.

This is the best chippy in the area. Fresh and tasty fish. Light batter. Great chips and a good size portion even the small one is plenty and a good price for the quality. Definitely worth a visit

Best Fish & Chips I've found in the area, the only one I go back to again and again. The shop looks clean, the staff are friendly, it can sometimes be a bit busy at peak times but the service is still good. Not sure why they're closed on Sundays

Don't often eat take away food but if I do decide to treat myself The Fishician is my chippy of choice. Lovely Crispy fish and great freshly cooked chips. I like the fact that they do a cheaper, smaller portion for those with a smaller appetite.

The food is good from here, though the fish are a tad small IMO. Quality doesn't noticeably change during the opening hours - it's as good when it opens as when it shuts.

Always a good quality meal at the fishician for a reasonable price. The chips are spot on, fish always appears to be cooked to perfection and the peas/curry sauces are smashing.

Husband called on his way home and got fish and peas for each of us. Fish was freshly cooked and tasted delicious, batter was gorgeous; peas were proper mushy peas,no lumps or too much liquid.

Probably one of the worst chippies I've ever had. Sorry guys, I was stoned and i still didn't like it which means there's really something wrong.
