chipmunk in St. Helens

So firstly we are a family Of 5 and who decided on a chippy tea this evening. I usually go into the shop and order from there, however there has been parking issues of late due to building work opposite the shop. I decided to order online and placed my order through Uber Eats. After placing order I realised I had forgotten to add a steak pudding. I navigated through the app to see if I could add to the order. The app suggested to contact shop directly, which i did and I was met with a very negative well you will have to either cancel through Uber or order again (for one steak pudding). Bearing in mind the order was less than 5 mins made. I suggested to pay over the phone and they could simply add in the pudding rather than cancel completely. Bearing in mind I would have to apply for a full refund through Uber, then effectively pay again for same order. As a result I decided to leave the order. The staff had no interest to resolve problem repeating to get in touch with Uber, despite Ubers recommending to contact shop. 2nd problem when food arrived donor kebab I had asked for MILD CHILLI AND GARLIC MAYO. They out SWEET CHILLI instead. Again wasn’t interested when rang shop to try and rectify. Very poor .

My mum just ordered at donor kabab with garlic mayo but they put sweet chilli instead of mild chilli sauce Terrible service and said they won’t do anything about it would not come back here again Chips were just warm Would not recommend

Freezing cold food and soggy on delivery had to bin :(

The large chips left with skinny oh who you get more the burger with very very nice I'd recommend the service I would use it again value from money

4.50 for large chips and the portions are abysmal. Any other chip shop we get one large portion of chips between 3 of us. There must have been less than 15 chips and they didn’t even fill the tray. The fish are nearly 7.00 and also extremely small.

Was short of time in my lunch break but decided to try the place for the first time. I was really glad I did! Great place for a quick bite to eat. Has a lovely sitting area in the back, so was great to sit down and have hot fresh beautiful fish, chips and gravy. Staff are really friendly and the place is lovely and clean. Has to be one of the best local chippies. I will be back!

Portion sizes are terribly small! Not like that when you come to collect personally! And curry was very watery for some reason :/ abit disappointed!

Terrible. Ordered from uber, not allowed to leave a review. Everything arrived freezing. A sticker inside the bag says no curry sauce ordered. Well up here sauce is included with fish dinners, your picture shows with peas (fish dinner on picture) if its not a fish fish dinner why have the option to buy them together and separately? Con. and we had no peas. If you had a problem with the way we ordered then you could have rang and told me there was an extra charge for sauce and I'd have paid it at the door because I'm not going to eat a dry, cold fish. The smallest fish I've ever seen, the smallest chips, a children's size infant. Everything was cold. Not sure why people rate this place at all. We also ordered 3 sausages and a large chips, large chips was laughable, that was more like the 1 person serving that you'd get elsewhere. Almost £30 for a few chips as I said the fish will get binned as it's freezing and dry. Will never order from this place again.

Really enjoyed food which I thought was good quality and cooked well, just the right quantity as well. Mushy peas spot on. well done Chipmunk.

Took an hour to find a driver, chips were really oily and undercooked. Won’t be ordering again…

Late to arrive and went came shocking paid for large chip for family to share wasn’t even a cone of chips and all scraps I had to go without then tried to call restaurant but had closed half an hour before I spent the same again on the side to go with chips but where no enough chips so side where waste worse ever just eat order

Understanding it's Friday, expected to wait a bit longer, but not an hour and a half. Chips- small portion sizes for the price, fish- small thin- battered & greasy, as were the other items such as the Spam fritter. Very mediocre at best.

Amazing food crunchy but also soft chips fish has an amazing taste but there isn't much atmosphere and the shop is always roasting because the cook everything in the same room

Great place for a quick bite to eat. Has a resturant in the back. Staff are always friendly and work quickly. Has to be one of the best local chippies as service in great and food is lovely.

I have a favorite meal called a sausage dinner we were going home but instead of going to the excellent chippy on four acre we decided to try the chipmunk firstly the prices are sky high. second a sausage dinner has 4 components chips, sausage, mushy peas & gravy so what happened to the mushy peas I did not get any will not use this chip shop again

State of that sausage, looked and tasted like it had been there for a week. Never get a simple, small order for one person correct. Must be a lucky dip if your getting tea in for the family. Last 3 orders have been incorrect. Won't be returning

Amazing chippy. Thatto heath is the best of the chipmunks the other stores could take a few tips. Delicious chips all the flavours they do and it's a pretty good burger too.( Could lower the price on it as McDonald's seems to be cheaper)

Chips are way undercooked. The curry sauce tastes off. Not sure what happend to chipmunk standards of food in the last 12 months but its definitely gone out the window. Apart from that the staff who serve are excellent.

I've been coming here once a week for some time now. I've tried almost everything and have no complaints whatsoever. Good food served by friendly efficient staff. Orders always right and quick service too.

I love this place the fish is always freshly cooked and delicious.the place is bright and clean and the service is good too.

First & last visit here. Looked so promising from the outside and on entering. Bright, Modern and Clean, staff in clean uniforms and clean equipment. Then it went wrong. Wanted Fish & Cips. No Fish, they'd sold out, aswell as other menu items too I was told by a not too bothered employee. Settled for Salt & Pepper chicken nuggets. Got home the Chicken nuggets were a cheap variety formed out of pieces moulded into shape. Not a full fillet piece. Salt & Pepper coating was sprinkled on and was in the box loose not on the chicken. Didn't resemble or taste like any other Salt & Pepper chicken I'd tasted. Barely different from a piece of plain chicken. Nicer nuggets from McDs and I'm not a fan of their food. Chips were like warm ups and tasteless. A pretty disappointing meal, shame as the potential is there.

Great traditional chippy, went in while working up that way. Polite staff, place was spotless and nice food.

Absolutely awful, chips were stewed and brown, all soggy and limp yet still undercooked. Pie was freezing cold. I cannot believe how downhill this place has gone since my last visit. It used to be the best chippy in St Helens but now it clearly isn't, what a shame. I would not recommend and will not return. Sorry Chipmunk, but I have to be honest so others don't waste their hard earned money on inedible cold food

Have purchased fish and chips few times now. Hit and miss regarding the chips sometimes quite nice. But the fish are probably the worst I’ve ever had. They cremate the batter fish is ever very over done. They must be cutting them very thin. Never used to be like this, especially the price you pay. Curry nice and peas, but won’t ever buy fish again.

Wonderful traditional chip shop spotlessly clean. Fab service, beautiful high quality food. Also catered for a party for 40 people an order was perfect piping hot am perfectly packed, received full order on time and in full. Can’t thank you guys enough x great team x 5star plus for me x 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Number 1) They didn’t pack my Coke Can and apparently Uber Eats won’t refund for this order even though I didn’t even receive it. Number 2) Chips were barely cooked, smothered in oil and were just wet. What happened to crispy chips? Number 3) Mushy peas were watered down and inedible. The biggest waste of money. I want a full refund so please contact me ASAP.

Ordered off Uber, two fish, cheese and onion pie, sasuage and gravy and peas. I'm not very picky with takeaway especially fish and chips but this food was appalling. On the menu it showed a picture of the fish clearly with chips and peas and what arrived was a tiny fish with little to no batter on maybe around 5-6 inches long and NO CHIPS. I was shocked we paid 6 pound for a tiny fish and they wanted us to pay almost a fiver for a portion of chips separately?? And it was cold, with literally no taste at all. It tasted like soggy cardboard, not even salt helped it as it just then tasted like salty soggy cardboard. thought we could redeem it with some buttered bread with the fish on it but I couldn't even swallow it was that dry. How can something be soggy and dry?? We had to use the gravy to get it down but that was a mistake as the gravy was the consistency of jelly and left a layer of grease on the roof of your mouth, and tasted like burnt oil. The sasuage was ok, just standard chippy sasuages, the only redeeming part of the whole thing was the mushy peas which were tasteless but of a good consistency and warm. I cant be very disappointed however since I had heard so many bad reviews of this place but thought you know what won't knock it til I try it but jesus christ I will never go back to this place, local or not. Everything had to go into the bin as it was just inedible and we felt ill thinking of food for the rest of the night. Save your money, go elsewhere.

Carl and his staff are very friendly. In my opinion Chipmunk is the very best place for excellent value fish and chips.

My family were travelling to 4 Acre via Thatto heath we decided to give Chipmunk a try BIG MISTAKE compared to local chippy in 4 Acre we were robbed I ordered a sausage dinner universally this is chips, peas ,gravy & a sausage the portions were small & expensive and what happened to the peas they were totally missing with hindsight I should have carried on and gone to 4 Acre I will NOT use chipmunk again

Had chips and English curry very nice but actually shook a few chips back into the chip box chips were supposed to be large ended up small

Regularly eat here. Clean and bright. Good service, friendly, quick and well organized. Food is cooked well, hot and fresh. Very light delicious batter on fish. Does takeaway mainly, but small, nice, dining area too. Good value. Well worth a visit.

I go to here regularly. The place is clean, all staff are very friendly and are dressed smart and clean. The food is second to none, if you want a proper chippy it has to be from here.

The food here is fantastic. But I have experienced a lack of tolerance from staff and management for young adults with challenges. But again food is great

I was with my daughter who bought fish from this shop and when we got it home the fish was off , she took the fish back and was refunded £10 but whoever cooked the fish should be disciplined for selling this rubbish and causing 3 people to get food poisoning . This shop should be visited by health and safety officials

Absolutely rip off. Quality is good but quantity is non existent !! Fish are like sardines (fish fingers) and £5.50 for a donner kebab no bigger than the palm of your hand is daylight robbery. The staff will be still wearing a mask long after covid goes away !!!!!!
