Ordered the steak 'pie' with 'Hispi' cabbage and chips. The wedge of cabbage was half the size of the plate, rock hard and stone cold. It was definitely NOT Sweetheart or Hispi cabbage but the run of the mill green variety. The PIE was not a pie but a stew, with a slice of pastry underneath and a ' LID' plonked on top, and not, as the menu describes, " encased in pastry". Please, please please, you chefs and menu compliers out there. Look at the definition of a PIE!!!. If I'd known it was not a proper, traditional stek pie, I wouldn't have ordered it. The young server agreed with me. He was delightful. Oh. The big, fat chips were scrummy and the beef was melt in the mouth.

I would recommend it here for a meal 11 months on I would still recommend the fisherman's but avoid the muscles (bland) and don't order the cabbage ,chips, pastry, gravy, steak - pie, listed in order of main ingredients as it should be.

We ate at the pub - Least friendly service I have ever received. Server practically threw things onto the table and said we can sit anywhere, but when we did told us that we had to clear the table in an hour. While the food was good, it wasn't worth the overall awful experience. Bathrooms were dirty and even though they only open at 12, everything was disorganized (they couldn't even tell us what the specials were for the day). Would not recommend

Staying one night in the area we popped in on Tuesday evening for a meal. So glad we did. Nice warm welcome and really good food. Lovely friendly staff. A big thank you to the nice lady who served our food (sorry we didn’t get her name) for the recommendations of places to visit in the area. My wife's chicken and mushrooms pie was very tasty with a delicious sauce and a real plate full. Dessert, sticky toffee pudding & ice cream was lovely. Blackberry & Elderflower Eton Mess could not have been better. Not too sweet or sour and a great balance of meringue to cream. Excellent food and sevice with the bonus of being great value for money.

We have eaten so many times here and NEVER had such awful food!! The service from the young waitress was lovely. The manager on duty was vile and so incredibly unprofessional. I asked for my steak to be blue and it was served stone cold! The tomatoes were laughably not as described on the menu! I was offered an alternative and I opted for the cheese toastie as this is usually so delicious ! It arrived minus the béchamel sauce and was dry. ( again not as described on the menu) We left before I even finished my Malbec and I could not of been more shocked at the response the on duty manager / supervisor gave me when I went to pay. She was extremely rude and said that the steak was asked to be blue so of course it would be cold!!! I cannot express just how upset we were with the awful food and even more so the disgusting attitude of the manager. She argued with me when I said I was not paying for the steak. I did not ask for the toastie to be removed from the bill! Overall an absolutely shocking experience at a place that we usually love to go to.

What can I say, we stumbled upon this pub/restaurant for the first time today and what a fantastic, friendly, characterful place it is. We both eat a "lot" of fish and chips, and the fish and chips we had at the Fisherman's Tavern were exceptional. Probably the best in recent years. The food was delicious and not my first lovely meal here. But… It was bloomin’ freezing!!!! We did ask a few times about closing the door between us and the beer garden but were told it wasn’t safe to do so. I totally get that it might be inconvenient to open and close the door to serve… But we were all literally shivering! We asked the other diners in the same area and they all said they were freezing cold too. The other end of the restaurant, closer to the loos, it was perfectly cosy. Outside was a lot warmer too (but all tables were full or we would have just moved place). The Fishermans needs to tell folk it might be chilly when they book in, or stop taking bookings at that area. We were mix of ages, 8-72 and we were all sooo cold! It’s a great place and the staff are nice, but it’s definitely not reasonable to expect people to be uncomfortably cold. I’m not exaggerating, my feet still haven’t thawed out and we left 2 hours ago!

Always like the Fisherman’s, went for dinner with my wife. Ordered the special, chorizo, chicken and potatoes with sour cream. The wife ordered fish and chips. Just before they arrived the waiter informed me that they had no sour cream, rather than wait I said I would have it as it comes, which on arrival looked very disappointing. The three ingredients were basically all the same size (cubes, dice size). It desperately needed a sauce, not sure sour cream would have worked. As it was the waiter was very apologetic and didn’t charge me for it. The wife’s fish and chips was as always spot on

Lovely wee place with friendly staff to stop by for drinks. We had a couple mid afternoon and decided to order the sharing nachos to try. Complete waste of money never seen nachos like them. Small amount served on a dinner plate and definitely seemed microwaved as soggy and cheap cheese sauce poured over them. As locals to Broughty Ferry we went to the Fisherman’s (The Fish) to meet another couple for a nice meal before they headed home - The young lad serving us was very polite, informative & efficient. To start the boys had the Halloumi with a chilli kick which was very nice, the girls declined a starter in favour of a dessert. For mains the boys had the sirloin steak, 1 of the girls had the chicken salad & the other the fish cakes. Both the steaks were very disappointing, lots of gristle meaning that only the very centre of the steaks were remotely edible without hurting your teeth, the triple cooked chips were ok but not really great - But to be honest the steaks at £16 a go were a let down. One of the girls had the fish cakes but reported that they were really potato cakes as there didn’t seem to be much fish in them, but the fries that came with them were good - Again disappointing. Lastly the chicken salad was reported as being good & was demolished by the other of the girls. At the end of service the young lad collected the plates & asked if everything was ok, we mentioned the above but it was only a cursory question as no-one came to ask what the problem was & this is why I am putting this review on. Sadly the girls declined pudding & just wanted to leave which we did. There are some great eatery choices in the Ferry but judging by our experience at The Fish this was not one of them - It’s a shame really as it’s a lovely pub in a great position that serves a great pint - Next visit I’ll stick to salt & vinegar or cheese & onion

We booked for a lunch for my family and we’re happy with the setting itself. Staff were friendly as always and service was good. The food was a disappointment however and for this reason we won’t be back. Fish and chips- fish was soggy and the fish itself had an aftertaste. Macaroni was “like a ready meal” according to my daughter. I don’t eat the stuff but it did look pale and bland with no cheese or crust on top. My fish cakes were ok, the salad was the best part of the meal to be honest. It’s a shame, it’s a busy pub and we have been often for drinks. Shame food was a let down.

Found this place by chance. Went inside and was welcomed nicely. Had soup, which was leek and potato. Service was friendly and efficient. Bill did have a 10% tip on it, and I was informed of this and had no issues with it. My partner had fish cakes and enjoyed it and wished there was more as it was that tasty. Would I go back again? Definitely.

Hands down my favourite bar in Dundee, not only because i stay on the street but it also always has a good atmosphere and is guaranteed to serve a nice pint. Draught selection is ridiculous (in a good way) and staff are pleasant. Couldn’t recommend more.

So this is the nearest boozer to Dundee Train Station. It's small and very cosy. Some outdoor summer seating. All walks of life. Great no BS staff. None of that matters though. The Guinness is absolutely spot on. Mate just back from Dublin said he couldn't taste any difference.
