Trades House Bar in Dundee City

A childhood friend and I meet up regularly for a 'Gin O'clock', we have been heading to the Counting House in Dundee. For the last few occasions the breakfast has been quite frankly stale, cold and inedible... (Have a word with the chef its shocking). We instead decided on the Trades House in Dundee and boy was it a very different Gin O'clock. Breakfast was one Traditional Scottish & the other a Veggie Breakfast. Cannot recommend enough, hot food, great poached eggs it was lovely including lashings of butter for our warm toast. It felt like a luxury compared to that of Counting House. Steph our fantastic server could not have been more welcoming, helpful, fun, informed and a credit to the bar. After our lovely breakfast we moved into the main bar to allow others to enjoy the food area. However Steph continued to assist us for the whole day accompanied by Paula, keeping us topped up (spoilt us, entertained us, engaged with us). Both ladies are a huge credit to the company, provided fantastic customer service and frankly showed us exactly why we should and will return. Our Gin O'clock days have been a fun event for a number of years but this really made our day such fun. A shout out to the team behind the bar also who were engaging too. I always thought the Trades a very male environment but times have changed and there were lots of 'ladies who lunch' enjoying the warm atmosphere also. Early afternoon we chose some snacks from the menu, the Halloumi with soured cream & Chilli jam is gorgeous along with the Humus & Flatbread.. Again the ladies (Steph & Paula) provided a fantastic service. Just wanted to say a huge thank you, show my appreciation of Steph & Paula and tell other ladies out there, head to the Trades. Foods good, staff are fab and it beats many of the other Dundee bars hands down. Us ladies appreciate great service and that is most definitely what we received on that day. After a week's holiday touring Scotland, the best pub of our stay. Or everything is perfect. Excellent fish and ships With a typical Scottish atmosphere. A place to recommend without problems.

We travelled up from Worcester to visit our granddaughter. We used this pub on 3 occasions. The last one on the evening before we left to return to the Midlands. We were impressed with the staff. All very helpful and polite. On the last evening we had a meal there. I can only say it was one of the best meals we've had in a long time. Thank you all. We will see you again one day.

Nice old style pub with live sports and a good atmosphere

Four ladies went for lunch at Trade House Dundee yesterday. It was a miserable day. Raining most of the day. Absolutely loved it from the time we entered.. Pauline our waitress was so kind, helpful and went above and beyond her duties. We would give her 11/10. Food was superb so thanks to the chef. too. We loved the beautiful glass windows and the pub atmosphere and we are pensioners. We will be back. Hope you enjoyed your Easter eggs Pauline. Thanks for making our visit from Aberdeen so memorable.

Always buzzing. Good prices. Lots of men and screens but there are two snug areas for a bit more peace. Food is ok. Cheap and cheerful. Staff are friendly. Toilets are downstairs but there is a disabled toilet on bar level. Can be loud but is generally a friendly place.

Very busy pub with a huge range of draught beers and lagers. It's a Belhaven/Greene King pub. Lots of tasty looking food being served.

Paramos en Trades House para un almuerzo ligero cuando visitamos Dundee. Pedimos un plato mixto de 3 para compartir con los Goujons Haddock, los buñuelos crujientes de Calamar y Haggis. Compartimos un brownie de postre. Muy buena comida y los haggis buñuelos que tuvimos abeto la primera vez eran particularmente agradables.

Amazing traditional pub to watch sports and some eat only sections with tables to eat top class pub grub. 👏🏻 We booked a table for the England Vs Scotland 6N match. We ate starters of nachos then mains of 6 small portion dishes (see pics 😋). We had two rounds of drinks, all for under £60. The food was great and the staff were very attentive. Unfortunately Scotland lost by a point. ☹️ Highly recommended 😎

One of the best Scottish pubs I've been so far. Full of (mostly local) people, great interior and really cool atmosphere. Meals are standard british pub-food fish&chips etc. Nothing extraordinary but nothing bad at all. Good selection of beers.

Enjoyed the fish & chips and mac & 3 cheese. The batter was great. TQ for replacing our cafe latte, which turned cold.

Vibrant city centre pub with good selection of beers, sports channels and pub grub. Always busy but definitely a relaxing bar.

Aimee is a wondercul server, made us feel very welcome. Great drinks and food choice, would come back in a heartbeat with the service given.

We have been here before but it is some 25 miles from where we live so too far to visit more often. The food has always been very good and served hot by very polite staff. It is great to have a menu which offers meals without chips which is very rare these days. We will go again as we thoroughly enjoyed the food and accompanying drinks beer and cider. The whole pub has a wonderful atmosphere and as it was also decorated for Christmas 🎄🎄 it made it extra special.. thank you

Opens at 10 am for breakfast and coffee. Good selection on menu drinks served from 11am lunch menu from 12 noon. It's worth a visit. Extensive menu. Good place for a catch-up and large beer selction. Advantage you can book tables for meals or drinks

Had xmas meal from menu and never seen portions as small. Had to buy sandwich after meal from a bakers....total rip off i go out for meals a lot but never go back to trades bar....

The wait staff were friendly and prompt. My husbands fish and chips was good, but my roast turkey dinner was mediocre. The turkey looked and tasted kikedeli meat. It was served with brown gravy rather than turkey gravy. Our mulled wine was served tepid rather than warm enough to enjoy.

Spent a great afternoon in here watching the various sports with my wife and we were both astounded with the excellent level of service from the bar staff as it seemed nothing was a problem for them especially bar manager Scott. Food was lovely, pints were fresh and the friendly locals were fantastic. Thanks for a great afternoon guys and we will be back.

Obviously a popular pub as is very busy. Nice pub and worth the visit. Good food. Prices for food a bit high but not unreasonable. Prices for drinks seemed a little high. Will most likely visit again. Liked the vibe! Give it a try!

A warm welcome on a freezing night with time to kill and work to do before a work event. Excellent coffee and lovely surroundings and atmosphere. The toilets were immaculate too

On today's visit , the chef over-did the salting of the chips (used rock'salt). It's best to leave the salting of a meal to the customer, me thinks. Service remains good.

Very busy, beer OK.. Waited 25 minutes for steak and ale pie. Very poor offering, little steak and little ale, mushy peas were almost non existent, pastry poor also..No recommendation.Waitress was very helpful.

Been a customer here since it opened, forever ago but no longer a regular. Theyve forgotten what makes a good pub. Service and food have continually reduced in quality over the last few years and this latest visit was no exception. Second experience recently of them running out of a standard spirit mid evening. Other than a couple of their longest serving staff, they seem disinterested. Food is poor value and quality and the pub just feels tired. Its location will keep it going and no doubt I will still drop in occasionally but its a better experience at the Phoenix or Tickety Boos where they are really engaged with customers.

Hands down my favourite bar in Dundee, not only because i stay on the street but it also always has a good atmosphere and is guaranteed to serve a nice pint. Draught selection is ridiculous (in a good way) and staff are pleasant. Couldn’t recommend more.

The manager is very unpleasant and responds very poorly, not only to customers but also to servers. The service is catastrophic, I do not recommend this establishment at all.

Was up in Dundee on holiday from England, was suggested by a local taxi driver to go to the trades, we had lunch my husband had the steak pie while I had a cheese ham and tomato omelette, my son had kids fish my daughter had flat iron steak she doesn't like chips so they offered her a baked potato which was beautiful. The person who served us was Sean he went into the kitchen to ask about my daughter's chips and it was the chef that suggested the baked potato instead, The chef's name was Gloria and the food was beautiful. We would like to thank your staff for making us feel most welcome, we will be back and will be recommending here to our friends back home. Keep up the good work. Tina x

Me and friends have been meeting here for lunch and wine to have a wee catch up for the last year and honestly, don’t think that we would go anywhere else now, the staff are great and always look us, it’s great because we can book our table online so we don’t have to wait for a table on the day. Trades House is a nice pub, lots of character and very clean. We booked a table as there were 6 of us, located in a nice snug area. Service was pleasant throughout and food was very good and large portions. Pub was busy with a good atmosphere.

Usually have breakfast which is great. But decided to have lunch, equally as good, service great. All round great pub.

Really nice visit, had a table booked. Great service from the waiting staff, very friendly. Wide variety of options on the menu, good for those with allergies or intolerances. Nice atmosphere it was busy but not too loud. Lastly the food was delicious and we felt it was very fairly priced.

Classic Scottish pub in the center of Dundee. Excellent fish & chips and then haggis accompanied by a truly phenomenal whiskey cream. Chef soups also available. Young and friendly staff. There is the possibility to watch sporting events and make requests for channels!

A wonderful and interesting pub. Stunningly decorated. Customer service was first rate and felt very welcome. Food was well cooked and hot, a great portion size and delicious. Highly recommend going here for a meal or just a drink. Great atmosphere.

Highly recommend. Food was amazing! I had the fish and chips. The battered fish was amazing! Wife had the Belhaven steak and ale pie which the gravy was to die for. One of the best meals we had while touring Scotland!

My buddy and I stumbled upon Trades House when we went out for a late night drink. Met some locals there, Shannon, Steve, and Jack (the off duty cook). They shared so much information with us about things to do, see, etc. We had a wonderful time. The bartenders, Scott and Sam, were great also. They recommended to us to return there in the morning for an authentic Scottish breakfast. Indeed it was!! Wow, it was incredible!! The atmosphere is beautiful. I only have great things to say about Trades House!!

Was in for lunch today at the this lovely pub, meal was amazing, my wife had the cheese and onion omelette and I had the flat iron steak both cooked to perfection, the food and plates were nice and hot, my server Sean was very helpful and very attentive made us feel most welcome ,Sean said the chefs were Gloria and Jackie, we told Sean to let them know it was a lovely meal and next time we are in Dundee we will visit this lovely pub, thank you

Really nice pub clean and quiet, staff super friendly. Went in for breakfast, good portion for under a tenner, very peaceful ✌️ recommended if you visiting dundee, reminds me of Shakespeare's in Birmingham classy but not posh.

Lovely day out at the Dundee Food Festival and chose Trades House for lunch. Food was lovely and beer was good too.

Had a very good coffee. Fantastic friendly and efficient service. I would highly recommend the Trades. It’s also very central and close to the shopping area.

We were in Dundee and went into this bar for some food. The barstaff were very friendly and welcoming. I had the flat steak, and Susan had the fish and chips Both meals were cooked to perfection and the catering staff were warm and friendly

Had lunch here yesterday, small plates - 3 for £15, good value for money, good atmosphere, great old fashioned service from Paula, fantastic attention to detail, couldn’t be more helpful. Recommend for a pub lunch.

Very nice traditional bar with good food. Ambience very good. Decoration very authentic. Ordered the 5 small plates to share and a soup of the day. More than enough food for 2 adults. Haggis was hot and crispy - tasty. Chicken soup too salty. Kung Po chicken bun can give it a miss. Chicken karrage was crispy and tasty. Fish and chips and onion rings very good as well. It’s a must try if in Dundee - for the food and authentic bar feel. Was full house.

Very disappointed, were recommended by our hotel (Strathmore Premier Inn) that this would be a decent place to go for a meal. Food was dreadful, I had Balmoral Chicken which was a very small portion and tough as old boots and very little haggis filling, the chips accompanying the meal were good. One of companions had fish and chips which was hard and dried up, another had a hamburger which appeared OK, the other had macaroni which again appeared OK. Toilets were stinking !! Unlikely to go back and would not recommend.

Been going to this pub for over 20 years was there last night for dinner and it was the worst meal I have ever had had to send the soup back as it was cold bread was stail when it came back they forgot my spoon and brought back a dirty spoon hygiene bad.the fish was over cooked and was not a piece of fish was bits of fish.my husband had a really upset stomach after this meal it totally spoiled our night. Very disappointed.the staff that served the table were great .I have tried on several occasions to call you the line rings out have left messages and no reply very disrespectful.

Got refused a drink at about 10.15pm on the 3/6/2024 Wasn't drunk or casing any trouble The was absolutely no reason to refuse we go there a few times a month Won't be going back

Four of us booked a table under dawn Harris myself who travels two hours and my friend all the way from Australia and two friends from Dundee . We had an amazing meal the service was fantastic. The staff went over and beyond nothing to much and making sure we were happy with small extra touches with our drinks . I will travel two hours on a weekly basis to visit again . Thanks so much

Was there for my birthday last week my husband had the steak pie said it was delicious. Went back today with my husband grandson and his girlfriend. The steak pie wad absolutely disgusting couldn't get my knife through the beef, we sent it back and no member of the staff came near us to explain or apologise. Won't be back

A classic pub that fits every cliché. Friendly, courteous staff. We had fish and chips. Friends Burgers and Natchos. Everything was tasty and sufficient.

Been here now 3xs and wow the food is amazing always cooked to profection.. pints of draft juice are amazing burgers are soo good cant wait to go back

Had the Balmoral burger. Absolutely delicious. Highly recommend. My friend had the steak pie she also highly recommended this aswell. Definitely try this place out.

After one of their extremely drunk customers knocked over the drinks I had just purchased, the duty manager, who was very rude, refused to have a meaningful discussion with me. I note a previous customer’s review found the duty manager to be rude - possibly the same manager I encountered on the evening of Saturday 11 May 2024!!

Very disappointed with my meals. If it hadn't been i was with a group I would have found somewhere else. Monday they didn't care my Balmoral chicken was horrible. Wednesday had to return my steak pie it was cold.

Rude staff. Aggressive and inconsiderate to disabled people. We sat in area with couple other people only drinking, to then after 30 mins be told we had to move due to needing for customer who would be having food, yet nobody was waiting and others in area only drinking wasn't tiold to move, when mentioned I am disabled and can they help me find place sit get told you find somewhere if not.tough Wouldn't recommend We came here few years ago and place was amazing has.gone down since
