Just fab all around and everytime... plus plenty of parking and cheap taxis available too if you get caught up in the wine or whisky selection

Service is not professional. So many untrained young waiting staff hanging around yet not many would pay attention to the customers. The starter squid and prawn dish was horrible in terms of size, presentation and taste. The batter was chewy because they're reusing the same batter over and over again and not making it fresh to order. A tenner for this poor show is a joke. The beef wellington was fair and I quite enjoyed it, but was well overpriced. I wouldn't really recommend it unless you are invited and someone else is paying for your food.

As a dining experience it was dull no atmosphere dated decor menu poor of choice. Waiting staff were fantastic very attentive and friendly. Food was basic bland at best average. Living in the Cheshire food belt I’m used to paying top price for good food but unfortunately this was priced high for substandard average food sorry to tell it like it is but come on fisherman’s retreat if your charging high prices then do better.

Two fish & chips and two burgers on our table, all excellent. Service V good too.

WOW What a place, haven't been for a long long time since it was the original small pub, the restaurant is magnificent, good quality furniture and napkins, the Staff are all lovely, friendly attentive young people who are a credit to the place, the food was delicious, good quality fare, we had mains and desserts, reasonable prices and not to leave out, the toilets were immaculately clean. Overall we had a lovely afternoon and will definitely be back again.

When you get off the main road it's not well signposted, and the roads got a few potholes. But it's worth a visit for the food.

Wow what a lovely place, the food, staff and menu were spot on. We all had starters and mains no room for dessert, my son had the 30oz t bone I have never in my life seen a steak as big as that and cooked to perfection highly recommended well worth a visit

Lovely place for a family lunch. Amazing gluten free options. Everything can be adapted to be gluten free except the pies and beef Wellington. We had bruschetta and calamari for starters, the chicken main and fish and chip main as well as sticky date pudding. All gluten free!!! Not many places are that accommodating. Food was delicious and service was great.

A Beautiful Restaurant in delightful surroundings the restaurant interior was 👌 the staff we're all amazing fast very very polite with a smile the food was special I had a small sunday dinner there was plenty of food for me and it 10/10 my mate had the homemade steak pie with chip and veg and gravy he said the pie was the best he had and he had a dessert the jam roly poly 😋 Meal and Restaurant To Remember Will Be Back 💯

An excellent restaurant set in the foothills of Ramsbottom A decent menu offering all the classic dishes.I opted for the Sunday roast on recommendation from a friend ( really must go large next time although there was enough ) the other dish was of the specials menu Chimichurri steak. On the desserts we opted for the cookie dough tart ( specials menu )and the old classic Jam Roly Poly with vanilla bean custard. Great service and plenty of room between the tables. Would highly recommend. We got a window seat with fantastic views of the surrounding countryside.

Went for afternoon tea had vegetarian option was disappointed with sandwichs, just egg & cheese. Could of had a salmon & cucumber or tuna even prawn. While others had beef I as the vegetarian had a sandwich with nothing but onions & I think olive's? Had scones & clotted cream & various cakes but unfortunately wasn't best cakes I've tasted considering they were home made. Coffee or tea came within the price.

Had the lamb burger off the specials and was one of the best burgers I have ever tasted and I eat a lot of burgers!!! Fantastic food and staff. Also a mystery box from the bar is well worth it we all got something fantastic. This is well worth a visit. Will be coming back soon

I dined there with a large party of friends and what a dissapointment this was. The trip there along a dreadfull potholed lane did not do my car any favours. I don't eat a lot so opted for two starters instead of a main meal. Number one was king prawns and calamari with chilli dipping sauce. 4 pieces of calamari arrived with two king prawns in tempura batter. The batter was the highlight of the dish. The prawns were about average but the calamari was really chewy ( I thought they specialised in sea food ) a few peices of limp salad and bottled dipping sauce. The second starter was dreadful pan fried black pudding and scallops in cheese sauce. The two rings of black pudding were mushy, I can't even think what they did to them. On top was a single scallop sliced in half although I must admit that tasted alright. The sauce again average. Considering these two starters cost £24.10 it was absolutely disgraceful. I will travel some distance for good food and don't mind paying for it. Unfortunately this wasn't it. I will not be returning.

Had Sunday lunch. Excellent quality in fabulous surroundings. Excellent quality real ale. Minor downsides are pricing is a bit strongand the road in and car park needs improvement.

AWESOME PLACE TO VISIT AND DINE AND BRILLIANT FOR ALL FUNCTIONS, ALL STAFF ARE THE BEST.

My children reserved places for lunch on Father's Day, which was as well as the restaurant was full when we arrived. We received a nice greeting on arrival before being escorted to our table. The serving staff were excellent as were our meals which we selected from a very comprehensive menu. We will definitely be returning in the near future.

Really disappointed with the food this time, 2 of the Brie starters was still frozen when served, the beef wellington was very over cooked even stipulated that they wanted it pink, the rib eye steak was stringy and tasteless, chips were limp and all the party had eaten desserts before the last person was served theirs. We have been before and it was so good tonight was a let down

Amazing food! We have been here a couple of times and the food has always been delicious! The beef wellington is out of this world! I've not found better! The service is great, all the staff are attentive and friendly. The location is brilliant, the view out of the big window is lovely you forget for a minute your 20 mins outside of Manchester. I really love how spacious the place is, we have a little one and because the tables are so big and well spaced we have never worried about bothering other diners. Plenty of space for prams and high chairs.

Hidden gem! We were driving through the area on our way home and needed to stop somewhere for lunch. Quick Google search and we came across this place. Would highly recommend the roast beef Sunday lunch.

The food was lovely, excellent service and stunning views. However I felt the restaurant itself lacked atmosphere. A beautiful, large, light room, but I felt it needed some personal touches to create some atmosphere. Also, not a fan of the furniture. But I loved the meal and the service and the view. This could all be enhanced by creating more atmosphere.

This place has fabulous views, very professional and efficient service with a real warmth. The waiting staff were really good and when we wanted more information about the whisky - the manager came over to chat and then found the perfect whisky for my partner. The food was amazing. A really special place to enjoy good food in a refined setting. We will keep this place for special treats do we don’t ever spoil it!

Beautiful location, lovely staff, very relaxing atmosphere.

Went out midweek on a whim. Greeted by friendly staff and treated to wonderful views of the surrounding hills with the sun slowly going down. Food was great, we were told we'd have to wait a little longer for the pie to cook which was not an issue as everything was communicated well. Would recommend to anyone who fancies traditional cuisine in the local area or with visiting friends and family.

I ate here April 2024. I had messaged ahead and was advised of my starter and main options, I had a choice of 5 starters and 5 mains. Considering that I am also dairy intolerant this was a great selection. I had the burger in a beautiful brioche type bun. Everything is made on the premises and was beautiful. My food was brought out separately. I didn't have a dessert, but vegan and gluten free ice cream was available, also homemade. The restaurant is down a country road with amazing views. I'll definitely go back.

Access by road is a little confusing and a poor road surface doesn't help. Very impressive premises and good food.

I discovered this place around 30 years before it had the big extensions and my first impression was ‘wow’. Since it was extended and modernised by opinion has increased to ‘spectacular’. The setting of the restaurant is special and if you want to impress someone then this is the place to go. The food is homemade and it’s simply delicious. As I mentioned the restaurant has been massively extended since my first visit but the ambiance has not changed in that it still feels like a family restaurant rather than a typical chain restaurant. The staff are always polite, smiling and very helpful. They are also very professional and knowledgeable about the food on the menu and how it’s made. Each time i’ve been, the food has been served pretty quickly and even the garnishes served with the main meals are seasonal and utterly delicious. I always say you get what you pay for and the steaks are full of flavour, cooked to perfection and locally sourced beef. I’ve also seen customers invited into the kitchen to see how the meat is stored which shows that the owners have pride in their business and proud of what they do. The only downside is that more people around Greater Manchester don’t know about this place as I would describe it as ‘if you know, you know’. I honestly believe that this place is as good as the so called best restaurants in Manchester. To summarise, every single detail about this restaurant is fantastic and I have no problem with having a 60-mile round trip to enjoy the experience. It’s simply amazing and the best of the best!

Had Sunday roast here and whilst the food and service were excellent it used to be bottomless gravy but no longer. Now it's £1 if you want extra for a small jug but that is only a small gripe.

Top quality food and service, prices competitive with better restaurants. Suggest daylight visit as access very challenging.

My husband and I met some of the team from Fisherman’s retreat last year at a Whiskey festival and they told us about how wonderful the food and whiskey is at the fisherman’s retreat So I booked us in for a meal to celebrate my husbands birthday, we also booked into the B&B 5 minutes away Beautiful building, very welcoming staff , everyone was so lovely The food was perfect, well presented, hot and extremely tasty . We had such a lovely evening The best part however was sitting in the bar drinking whisky and chatting with Gary We chatted for that long , the poor staff were closing up around us 100% recommend and cannot wait to return

This is a really good place to eat and drink the atmosphere was very good and the staff were very friendly and polite and patient which always helps. All in all a very pleasant and enjoyable experience. The view from the amazing massive window is quite simply awesome love it 😀 😎🤠

Portion sizes were small, especially considering the price, however the food was nice. There were lots of large tables in which slowed service down considerably. The bakewell tart apparently had homemade jam in it.... I think they must have been running low on supplies as I could barely see or taste the jam in my slice. The ice cream was yummy and we bought some to bring home.

We went for our late valentine's/early anniversary date night and it was outstanding. The service was delightful and the waiting on staff were very attentive,I was complemented on my tattoo so they get bonus points for that! The food was delicious, we had 3 courses and each one exceeded the next. I wish we could have seen the view outside from our table but considering we booked at 7pm that's to be expected at this time of year, so we'll definitely come again during the summer months to take advantage of the location. Top marks, well done to all and thank you for making our special evening that much more special even if I did feel slightly overdressed! xxx

Brilliant breakfast on a Saturday morning. The view from the restaurant is breathtaking. Everything on the full breakfast was cooked perfectly and arrived promptly. Haggis on a breakfast! I feel this should be a mandatory item on all full breakfasts! Will definitely be coming again soon. This place is a gem.

Best Sunday dinner I have ever had. The starter's, garlic mushrooms and scallops were amazing, and the sweets are to die for. We will definitely be returning and with friends and family. 10 out of 10 x

Had a wonderful time today. We were a party of 24 hosting a baby shower. The venue was perfect and everyone really enjoyed themselves. Service was prompt and afternoon tea was very good especially the scones ❤️ Thank you.

Really nice place in a lovely location. Staff nice. Had the Beef Wellington, which was really poor. Steak cooked nicely, but the pastry was really undercooked/ soggy and I am feeling rather sick two hours later. Partner had a braised beef special that was pretty nice. Wouldn't recommend.

Another fabulous Burns Night!! A great selection of whiskys, excellent food and knowledgeable hosts. We then stayed overnight at The Stables which was just perfect. Liz provides a first class experience which is complimented with a wonderful breakfast. Another memorable visit, looking forward to next year.

I had been wanting to go to The Fisherman's Retreat for many years, so we broke our journey from Yorkshire to Greater Manchester for a meal there. It was well worthwhile visiting. It is much more upmarket than any pub serving pub grub. Treat yourself on a birthday or anniversary. The food was spot on. The price was correct. The staff were attentive and friendly. The views were marvellous. The last half kilometer of road to the restaurant was twisty and steep, but if you want the views, you have to climb a little.

Beard Nets never seen one chef where them in this place. You can see the kitchen through the entrance corridor disgraceful always say we are looking into this. Been a few times if there is a chef in the back cooking food with ginger hair or beard it must explain the hair in my omlette the odd occasion leadt one every 2 3 weeks this happens pay attention!! Apart from this the food is pretty pricey but the people are worth going bk for

Visited here on Saturday afternoon with six ladies for afternoon tea and it was delicious. The restaurant is so spacious and bar area really cosy we all had a lovely afternoon .

We booked the Fisherman’s Retreat private function room (the Nuttall Suite) for my mother’s 90th birthday celebration party. The staff were excellent in every way! Nothing was too much trouble, the choice and quality of food was perfect and we were allowed to decorate the room ourselves. It’s a classy place, very welcoming and reasonably priced. Thankyou!

Comfortable but not warming nor welcoming atmosphere. Friendly staff helped a bit. Reasonable food with an oversized excessive cheese board for after-mains.

We came here for my grandmas birthday and had afternoon tea which was lovely. There was a great lunchtime selection too if you don’t like that. Lovely staff and lovely location, definitely recommend.

Really enjoyed our night out. Relaxing drink in the bar area before eating. I had the steak with sea bass and prawns. Couldn't have been nicer. Steak cooked just how I like it, rare/medium. Herself had lamb 5 ways, very nice. Honestly couldn't fault it.

Eaten at the Fisherman's Retreat with my Fiancee today for the First time, We went for Breakfast. We have always known about the excellent reputation that the Fisherman's Retreat has and we were not disappointed. Lovely warm welcome we were seated in front of the huge windows overlooking the beautiful countryside. For Drinks my Fiancee ordered a Cappuccino and I ordered a Flat white which was honestly one of the nicest Cappuccino and Coffee we had ever had. For Breakfast my Fiancee ordered a Full English breakfast minus the Black pudding and haggis, I ordered the large Full English breakfast which came with 3 Sausages, 3 Bacon, Potatoe rosti, Baked beans, Grilled Tomatoes, Grilled Mushrooms, Black pudding topped with haggis and a rack of toast and butter. Honestly the breakfast was absolutely amazing Fantastic quality ingredients, Great quality Sausages and bacon, Potatoe Rosti was amazing again it was my first time having Potatoe Rosti it was really nice. Service was absolutely fantastic, Food was amazing, Beautiful setting looking over the hills towards Ramsbottom and Peel Tower. We highly recommend the Fisherman's Retreat. 5☆

We had an absolutely amazing time celebrating my husband's 40th birthday with dinner and a surprise whisky tasting at the Fisherman's. It has always had a special place in our hearts after getting married there 8 years ago and the food quality is still as good as ever. We had a gorgeous meal (top quality steals and the Bailey's cheesecake is one of my all time favourite desserts!) and the service was exceptional as always. However it was the personal touches and service by the staff which really made the evening special. Big thanks in particular to Garry, who secretly worked with some friends of ours to organise a whisky tasting for after dinner which was a fantastic surprise. He clearly had so much enthusiasm for helping them choose the best whiskies for a special birthday celebration. Also one of the bar staff went above and beyond and gave us a lift back to our nearby accomodation as it was pouring down outside. It's little touches like that which make the Fisherman's so wonderful and we hope to have many more celebrations there in years to come

We have had good meals here before, but lady night's meals were fantastic. Between us the group had the specials cod and venison dishes. The lamb 5 ways and the Mediterranean vegetable Wellington. We are blown away with the quality of the main courses. One small disappointment was the prawn special starter. It was quite sparse. Overcooked but tasted delicious. Despite this small setback . We would highly recommend the Fisherman's for a special meal out.

I now live on the Southcoast but family live in Bolton, the last time we were here was in the Winter time, so on our return up north family voted we revisit. Glad we did all 4 of us had a Sunday Roast, the meat...

We were taken to this restaurant by family and en route we wondered where on earth we were going as they drove us down a badly rutted track! On arrival there were diggers, rubble and fencing around what had apparently been the carpark and it wasn’t clear where to go. Once parked we approached a very unassuming door and wondered what might be on the other side!!! Once inside, the place felt quite extraordinary - very large, contemporary and tastefully decorated, though perhaps lacking a bit in atmosphere, possibly because there were few diners in a vast space. It lacked intimacy though our window table had glorious views. The service was immaculate - polite, gracious and polished, making the experience feel like real dining, but without the price tag that usually accompanies such places. The menu was fairly extensive and varied and not pricey (with the exception of steak) plus there were some good ‘weekday evening’ deals. All dishes we had were beautifully presented, without being overly fancy, and portion size was good. My one criticism would be that the ‘bourguignon served with crusty bread’ arrived with a slice of supermarket-style wholemeal bread! However, I imagine this would be a great venue for a function.

What a fabulous place . Staff friendly made you feel welcome . Only called in on the off chance . Looking for a quiet out of the way venue . It's setting is very picturesque . Food was good as we only had a snack can't pass a opinion on the main menu . But I guarantee we will be going back . Really is woth going to .

Having looked at a number of wedding venues a few years ago we decided to select The Fishermans Retreat as our reception venue. Since then we had to delay our wedding twice due to the pandemic which may have been a blessing in disguise looking back at the weather on our first two dates. Everyone at Fishermans has been great, from asking for additional details or requests, and last minute changes nothing was too much of an ask. We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon and evening at the Fishermans for our wedding and we received so many compliments on the setting. A special shout out to Gillian who was nothing short of exceptional, very friendly, endlessly helpful, and very experienced. Also additional recognition for Garry, and Imogen who were always around, helpful, and friendly. We can't thank you all enough for helping create such a memorable day 😇

I’ve been to the Fishermans Retreat back in 2019 but didn’t eat, had some nice Whisky’s! Been meaning to go back for 4 years and yesterday I did. We had the Black pudding and scallops for starters (minus the Chorizo) I had the regular sized Sunday dinner for mains (I’m glad I didn’t order the large as I wouldn’t have managed it - the regular is ample) my BF had the Lamb 5 ways and said it was delicious. If your looking for a perfectly hidden and serene venue along with delicious food, it’s the perfect venue.

Just had the most delicious fish&chips here. Quick and very friendly service, great atmosphere and a lovely location away from it all, with fabulous views. We had the Friday deal of fish, chips, peas, tartare sauce and a glass of red or white wine all for £13.50 each. Excellent value for money. We will return!

The food was excellent service was great and minimal waiting. They could perhaps do with Aircon or a fan .. it was warm in there.
