The Fish Wife in Canterbury

We had the haddock and chips and scampi and chips and both were fresh,fantastic,fabulous friendly and fast service. The owner couldn’t have been nicer and presented the food well even down to a slice of fresh lemon and tartar sauce. You are given a beeper to alert you when the food was ready - what a novel and great system - it gave you some time to wander around the other huts whilst waiting - great idea. I can’t recommend THE FISH WIFE enough.

I had the fish and chips from this stall after the Whitstable 10k. The food is individually prepared and you’re given a pager, which makes for quite a wait but it was worth it. The batter was light and the chips were well cooked (though not proper thick cut). A good selection of other dishes. The only thing I’d like to have seen was what sort of fish it was and whether it was local and sustainably caught

I was in a tricky fix and needed some fish goujons pronto for my little girl. It was 11am and the lady in the hut was busy prepping for the day. She did me a great deal on an incredible plate that kept my 2 year old daughter and my 62 year old mum content till they got home. Kind and value for money but also incredibly tasty too. Not greasy and bleugh xx

Popped down to Whitstable harbour and had an amazing fish finger sandwich that was freshly made and great quality. Would definitely recommend anyone to try

One of the nicest, freshest fish and chips I ever had! Since the quality of the meal was so good we thought that a homemade tartar sauce would have been a good touch, but obviously that's not essential :)

Advertised as fish and chips but not chips. Fish wasnt to my liking, service was good and hut was cute.

My daughter loves the haloumi and chips here, we have been back several times. Good service and always with a beautiful smile. Love the French accent too!

Beautiful fish and chips. The best fish and lovely light crispy batter that wasn’t full of grease. Freshly made. We were given a ‘pager’ which buzzed when our order was ready. So my family and I were able to sit by the harbour while our food was being cooked. It took about 10 mins but it was freshly made and lovely and hot. The lady who served us was very pleasant. We really enjoyed our lunchtime fish and chips and would definitely recommend.

Had cod and chips from here yesterday lunch time. The cod was really good quality and the batter was lovely. Far superior than what I received from Ossie’s on the High Street! Would recommend. I would prefer if they served their food in a box though (like The Forge). It’s difficult to eat from a flat tray and the food gets cold really quickly.

We had lunch here today. The food was OK, but the lady working there seemed very stressed and didn’t seem to want to take our order. When I asked her a question, she waited a good half minute before giving a surly response. When we wanted to pay contactless (due to Covid) she said ‘it’s only £5. Haven’t you got cash?’ When we were told it would be a half hour wait, we didn’t mind at all, but she seemed annoyed this hadn’t put us off! The order was then ready in 15 mins, so not sure what that was about? Slight attitude overhaul required I think. Because of this, I will not be returning.

Went for a late lunch around 2pm on a weekend. We chose to have fish and chips for £7 each, a decent portion and comes with sauces. The lady battered and fried the fish right in front of us, which was great to see that it was fresh. The fish was lightly battered so it was not oily or heavy, the chips came out of a frozen bag, but they tasted fine. The service was rather slow as the orders were being taken and fulfilled one by one as only one person was working inside. Good value for the price and tastes great!

My wife and I stopped for lunch here. My wife had the chips which were just regular chips. I had a lovely fish finger sandwich which I really enjoyed. The ordering took a little while as she deals with one order at a time. I would go back if I was in the area and wanted a quick bite to eat.
