Food: mass. The only taste came from the vinegar. Ambience: not even a stand-up snack bar. Staff: well. Inexplicable where the reviews came from.

I recently visited The Fish House and was thoroughly impressed by the quality of their food. The fish was freshly cooked and absolutely delicious, with a crispy batter and tender, flavorful meat inside. The chips were also excellent, tasting very good and served in an ample amount. Overall, a fantastic experience that I highly recommend to anyone looking for top-notch fish and chips!

I can see why this is the best rated eatery in all of Harwich. The portion sizes are fantastic for the price and all their food is fresh and delicious. The fish is massive so make sure you are hungry. Battered sausage is perfect and their delivery time is always excellent. Can't praise this place more, best fish and chip shop around.

I have just had the most amazing Takeaway the food was so tasty and so fresh full of flavor well worth the money would not hesitate to order again 10/10 the guys are so well mannered very helpful. the food what can I say apart from fantastic. piping hot the curry sauce was fantastic and the Cod my gosh melted in my mouth the delivery guy was so well-mannered and smiling even though the weather was awful could not have asked for more thank you guys one very grateful customer looking forward to ordering again. Was told about this chip shop from a man who owns Pacific 7 chip shop further down the road ( his brother ) , While staying in Dovercourt we made a visit here ,we had fish (cod) and chips,fish was a very good size and tasty ,my son pointed out that we did have a lot of burnt brown chips but don’t let that put you of,according to my son tho he prefers this fish better more than from chip shop pacific 7 but I beg to differ….

When I visited this place for lunch I went in the chip shop and the man just stared at me and didn’t even greet me. Ordered haddock and chips. When I got my food I was happy with the potion size. When I tucked in to the food I was disappointed. The batter was so thick and raw. It was like eating dough. I had to peel it off from the fish. The fish didn’t have any taste at all. I had to cover it in vinegar and salt to make it edible. The chips was drowning in oil. It’s like they didn’t let the excess oil drip.

Great food friendly quick attentive service

The slowest service to take an order I’ve ever encountered in a restaurant, that should be so easy to administer efficiently and THEN a group of people who came in AFTER me are served FIRST before me !!!😡😡😡 why can’t restaurants get this fundamental simple part of running a business correct ?? ( there had not be an included service charge upon the bill ! )

Spent a week in Harwich on holiday with the kids and had more than enough fish and chip shops to choose from but I’m so happy we chose this one! Prices were good, food was cooked fresh to order and portion sizes were huge! The children’s meal in particular was excellent value for money! Wish I could take this restaurant back to London with me.

Called in on a late Sunday afternoon. Food was excellent. Best fish n chips I've had in the area & I live nr manningtree ! Asked for ' Light ' batter- no problem. Batter was light & crispy, non greasy. Chips cooked to perfection. Attentive, friendly staff. My go to place now for Quality fish & chips. Fried chicken looked really good also 😋 Excellent all round 👏

Ordered via Just Eat on a Friday night so I expected a long delay but it arrived in around 20 minutes. Great fish and chips and really big portions

Husband went and bought one cod and chips and one plaice and chips. Plaice well if blindfolded could not say what i was eating tastless fish whether to start with it was frozen fish do not know, The cod husband said i have had better both were cooked to otrder but both fish were overcooked. Will not go there again. What the chips are cooked in do not know but was left with a taste in the mouth like a dripping taste. When i read good reviews and then go there and it is like stated it is obvious their friends have written the reviews either that or do not know what decent fish /chips taste like. The above came to exactly £20.money wasted.

The best chicken kebab we’ve found since moving here! Such tender chicken with loads of fresh salad in a pitta bread. Delivery is always on, if not ahead of, time by polite drivers. Recommend

This place is how take aways used to be. Generous portions, good ingredients, friendly staff. I had fried chicken and it's better than KFC (it's cooked) plus they use a genuine pressure fryer for the chicken. Going to try their fish next time. Their chips are thick and nice. 10/10

We stayed in Harwich for a week this year and visited here twice. When you walk in you are always greeted well, everybody behind the counter wants to say hello, they are very friendly there. We ordered 2 chips, buttered roll, and a quarter pounder with cheese, it was ready in about 5 minutes, very quick. It cost about a tenner, very reasonable. Cash only but there is a cash machine 2 minutes away at TSB. There was -so many- chips, the portions are huge, we could have had a chips to share. The chips were decent enough, a bit crispy on the outside, fluffy on the outside, very big and chunky chips. The burger was lovely, the roll was fresh, they asked exactly what salad I wanted, I asked for lettuce and ketchup and it was exactly that. The burger was very tasty actually. The buttered roll was a crusty roll, different to the burger bun, quite tough but OK. We would definitely visit again when we are in Harwich, it is overall nice food, very affordable and very friendly staff.

Make sure you are hungry to get the best of this. The portion sizes are massive, and I mean massive. The large cod was literally over a foot long, my medium cod was what I'd call extra large anywhere else! Same goes with the chip portion sizes. A large between two would be more than generous. Fabulously fresh food all served up quickly with excellent customer service and a smile. We wish we lived nearer!!

Very disappointed with the price you have to spend for delivery. For one person you have to spend over £13 to get it delivered, there's no way on hell one person will spend £13 by themselves.

Ordered online via the website to my grandparents house, was delivered 10 minutes earlier than expected too on a Saturday evening which was great and all the food was hot. They had forgotten 1 item we had ordered, however once we called up they were very apologetic and quickly rectified the issue - all of the food was very good, we ordered fish, rock, fish cake, sausage in batter and scampi all of which were lovely. 10/10.

By far, the best in the area. Great friendly staff. Food is cooked well . No pre cooked/ double dipped chips here. Freshly cooked. Spicy wings are hot. Very hot. Fish is cooked spot on. Can not recommend them enough. Great service. Even when I have had food delivered, arrived quickly.

We are a bit disappointed as only left a star rating of two, which to be honest was probably a bit unfair. So having read the owners comment and now leaving a comment to justify our rating. We didn't have much money on us, and didn't realise this shop doesn't take card payment. Although the portions were of good size and the fish was large. We both felt a bit poorly the day after. Maybe it wasn't the food from here, but we can only give you our experience. It is hard for people to be honest these days as sometimes the owners can take offence. It is only our opinion. As for the owners comment about visiting lots of places in one day, is totally incorrect. However reviewing the lots of places we have been to in the last 3 to 4 weeks in one day is true. Thank you.

Friendly service. Generous portions. Spotlessly clean. Good food at a fair price. It's not the best fish I have had, that award goes to Harbour View in the north east. Best chips goes to a lovely chippy in Aldeburgh. This place however is local and is certainly the best place in this town. Will be using again soon.

Best fish and chips in Harwich. Portions are great, tasty fish, priced well, fresh cooking oil used, (I hate dark dirty chips) and quick friendly service. Fish house serve you quick with their cooked food Unlike most chippys in Harwich! If I wanted to wait 30 mins I'd cook it my self. Definitely #1 for us

Called in for a takeaway because we were pushed for time and bought three portions of fish and chips, which we took to the seafront and ate in the car. All agreed that it was some of the best fish and chips we'd had in a long time. Good size servings, non greasy food and nicely presented by friendly staff. .

Didn’t get any food as they don’t take card payment, only cash but window clearly shows AMEX etc. Take those signs down or put one up saying ‘Cash Only’ or at least have the common sense to point someone towards a cash point machine. It’s not that difficult is it? Annoyed hence 2 stars.

I can honestly say this place is amazing,i order regular from here and can honestly say i have never had a bad meal,this is the only takeaway place we use now as have been disapointed by all the takeaways we have had from other places,the portions are big! Its a little more pricey but it really is worth every penny,everything is delivered hot and fresh every single time,thankyou to all the people that deal with the food orders/delivery,you really are just amazing,keep doing what your doing,dont change a thing because it is perfect,thankyou so much to all of you,you certainly have earned yourselves a loyal customer from us 😁we will not be going to any other takeaway!
