When we stood at the door, I wouldn't have gone in without Google Maps. It looked very small and cramped and seemed a bit like a bar only. However, when we did ask, we were sent to the back and up the stairs to end up in a really rustic, cozy guest room where other guests were already sitting and eating. The very friendly and helpful lady of the house was a little under the weather, but did her best to serve us quickly. We had three rump steaks with pepper sauce and a burger for the youngest. We were all wonderfully satisfied, it tasted really good. I had a bit of a lot of tendon with my piece of meat, but the other two steaks were flawless. It was a nice end to our vacation in England!

As a family we visited this restaurant on 5th oct 2024 After reading reviews we was shocked The reviews are for the previous owners of this restaurant The food was awful We are a large family of 14 every meal had a problem Steak with peppercorn sauce steak arrived sauce arrived 15 mins later after we asked 3 times for it Onion rings soggy and greasy Beef burgers soggy and greasy Everything seems to be cooked in a deep fat fryer I would avoid On a positive the young man that served us was very good He seemed to feel awkward as the menu online is the old owners menu and the menu they now have is very limited The cask ale was off (we are a family of publicans ) I would strongly advise against eating here

Old pub with a typical English pub atmosphere. Very friendly service. The seating is a bit old. The Sunday Roast was well - typical for a pub. It could definitely be better - but it could also have been worse.

We came as two friends for a spot of lunch, really only looking for sandwiches or baguette but they don't do that so we ordered off the main menu - steak pudding mash and veg and fish and chips, the ambience (table settings etc) is very basic but the food was wonderful and certainly made up for it. Service was also very good, very good value for money!! We will be back to try the Sunday lunch next time.

We went here for our friends joint 50th Birthday. The Crown Post said they could accommodate 30 of us for meals as long as we pre-ordered which we all did. This was arranged 2 weeks beforehand but upon arrival the chaos started. Although only being 25 of us in the end they hadn't laid out enough seats and there was clearly not enough room. On to the food. My peppercorn sauce was brought out for my steak but 15 mins later I still had no steak. I finally got my meal but the chips were all cold and stuck together which was common with other people who had chips. Also no steak knives were given. Someone had a mixed grill but they had forgotten the sausages and gammon. they brought these items out later. The best one though was two people had ordered Fajita's and when these plates were served there was no wraps. My friend asked where are the wraps and was told that Fajita's don't come with wraps lol. Although pre-ordered, people were waiting nearly an hour for their food. Some of the room were eating desserts before some people had been served their mains. The food was very poor, steak not cooked properly, the fish pie only had one type of fish in it, a burger bun which was so hard my friend was knocking it on the table, not enough cutlery and many more things to mention. I will say though I felt sorry for the two people who was serving us as they could easily tell how bad it was and they did their best. The people who run this are to blame as they quite obviously could not cope with the demand which they said they could do. We would of been better going to Fawlty Towers as this is what the experience felt like.

I was invited to a birthday meal at The Crown Post although I have had several meals there before which I have enjoyed. On this occasion I was impressed. We were greeted by the friendly lady who took a drinks order for us at the bar. My friend ordered a vodka lemonade and lime, however she explained that they had run out of lime cordial. To ensure my friend was not left disappointed, she told us she would pop to the shop to buy some lime cordial. I was impressed as this shows the staff love to go the extra mile for the customer. I had halloumi for starter and two friends both shared a baked Camembert, which were enjoyed. All of us had Kiev, which we all really enjoyed. Good portion sizes. We’re too full for dessert. All in our favour. Staff were brilliant, chef knows how to cook, and food itself was top shelf. Why people go to the other places in Harwich, pay exorbitant prices or get told "we are booked out" I have no idea when this beautiful little place is right there. Try the crown if you want a lovely quiet evening with good food and lovely friendly staff, it's well worth it. As for the premises, 14th century gem and it is so lovely especially upstairs. The menu prices were astonishingly good value e.g. £12 for a substantial two-courser. We had for starters whitebait and chicken satay. Six of us from all over the country met up in Harwich for the weekend. After finding some fantastic pubs we suddenly became hungry. We chanced upon Pieseas Chippy but it was near closing time and the staff were clearing up. Expecting to be turned away we asked if we could have 6 lots of fish and chips (with 4 mushy and 2 gravy). No problem, They were happy to oblige and cooked our order from fresh. The fish and chips were delicious! While waiting we had a great laugh with the lady doing the frying. She even got one of us to sing a sea shanty. Many thanks for looking after us and making us so welcome. We went on to have a brilliant weekend and left the old town with fond memories.
