The Fish Cabin in Denbighshire

I still can’t believe how bad this place is. It’s actually comical at how BAD it is. Fancied proper fish and chips and spotted what I thought was a genuine chippy right on the front in a perfect location. Queued up to be greeted by the most miserable young girl who stared straight through my soul. Ordered and managed to find a seat. It was chaotic and not clear who’s order was being called. Food came in a tray and I said do you have knife and fork to which they said yes there’s a fork in it. Flimsiest fork in the world. Went back to pay for sauce as they are not free. Well it was cheaper then cheap chips barely cooked and the worst fish ever seen in life. Like one of them cheap battered frozen ones. All batter no fish, and not a nice batter like from a proper chippy! Thank god didn’t come across the rude man from all the other reviews. Maybe the girls were so miserable as work with him. God knows. Nice reminder to check reviews before I spend my money anywhere! Don’t even know how the hell this has stayed in business. Avoid at all costs it’s vile

The worst fish and chips i have ever had! Frozen rubbish fish in horrible batter tasteless frozen chips. Not cheap either ! Avoid !!

Always get nice chips and cup of tea for a reasonable price. Better than some places we've visited nearby.

Their card machine said it’d timed out and cancelled the first payment but on checking my statement it turns out the payment of £18.40 came out twice! That was one expensive round of fish and chips. For that reason we wouldn’t go there again :-(

Avoid!! Wish I had read the reviews first. Chips are barely cooked oven chips and the fish is oven cooked too. Bull bought frozen by the looks of it £20 for a meal I could have made for less than £5 at home Women serving seafood got her leg in the bin to push food down in her apron , apron in the bin then went back to serving

Manager very rude, service terrible, food no better. Asked for a cup of tea, no tea bags it was from a teapot and like dish water Tables dirty and not cleaned between customers Only manager and one assistant he expected her to serve take payment clean tables and empty bins. Get another staff member you might be able to offer better service. No food hygiene certificate displayed. Very poor avoid

What a lovely little cabin lovely staff always smiling. Food is worth the money and the best fish I’ve ever tasted the cheese burgers are better than McDonald’s. These reviews horrible are pointless! The worst fish and chips I have ever eaten. Ordered 3 small fish and chips and chips and gravy was a little surprised when I couldn’t have scraps however when the food came I saw why - the worst frozen fish and basic frozen chips. To add to the flavour my daughter had a hair in her gravy. When I went to complain about the fish the ‘chef’ said no one has ever complained in over 20 years and manhandled my returned fish and then point blank refused to give me a refund and walked away. I wasn’t alone in complaining as no one who had ordered fish could eat it. I have never experienced such rudeness

We went to Prestatyn for the day, then detoured to Rhyl looking for (fresh) fish and chips. We stumbled across this little fish and chip shop on the promenade. So we ordered fish and chip plus extra chips and a sausage sandwich. It came to £16.50 of which £3.95 was for the fish, however when we got our food surprised was an understatement! The chips were not fresh cut nor was the fish freshly battered, both were frozen and deep fried. Chips £1.85 a portion so expected freshly cut chips, the fish was ,£3.95 - should have known better as in our local chippy no where near the sea it's over £5. I'd love to say that the staff were pleasant, but honestly I can't they were rude and abrupt. If your in Rhyl wanting food and this is the only place open avoid at all costs and just wait for the services on the way home.

Without a doubt the worst fish and chips I have ever had. My weird shaped fish was still frozen in the middle. My partner had an eyelash stuck to one of his chips. Waited an eternity while four people bimbled about back there, only one of them seemingly able to serve people (albeit rudely). Genuinely no idea how they stay in business.

Awful awful awful You would be amazed at how poor the quality is at this place.They don’t have to worry about getting it right to get return customers as they get get a fresh batch to rip of on a weekly basis.Just wish I’d read some of the reviews because they are all accurate.Frozen fish frozen chips yuck steer well clear.

Reluctantly went here for some fresh seafood(cockles and mussels)and some chips. Last years visit wasn’t very successful as the prawns we purchased tasted awful and had to be binned. But thought would give them the benefit of the doubt and try again. MISTAKE!! The chips were very and I can’t state exactly how very salty they actually were and the 2 pots of seafood we ordered were horrendous. Both looked dry and not fresh at all, and the one pot had a hair in it. Should have popped into b&m and bought their little jars of cockles and mussels, they are fresher than what we purchased and have been sat in a jar god knows how long! I’m not really sure how this “business” is still going! Spend your money else where people as we will be in the future.

We have never had worse. The fish (unknown) but not cod.. was chewy the batter thick and hard. Simply awful. Cheap and nasty tartare sauce. The cup of tea was really nice!! Avoid

Ate here today and can't get over how rude the man was behind the counter. I basically was stood for ages waiting to be served and was ignored for the next customer and when someone started to order i said sorry i am next and i ordered and the guy behind the counter proceeded to give everyone there orders except for mine and the other woman working behind the counter was going to give me mine and the older man said no it's someone elses order (rudely) . Like come on really... this made me feel like i did something wrong waiting for my order whilst everyone after me was given there orders even though they could have asked if i was wanting to order... I agree with the previous review he doesn't deserve custom. I own my own catering van and wouldn't dream of being so rude! I would also make sure people are served and not just waiting... the main guy is in need of customer service/personality training! I can't understand why it's so busy with poor customer service and the food is ok nothing fantastic.

Visited this place for lunch only really because it was close to where we were on the beach and there didn't seem to be any competition nearby. My mum didn't see the small sign that said that fish had to be ordered before queueing so basically was told off by the rude older man serving. My little boy wanted kids sausage and chips, when it was served 5here was only one sausage so my mum asked for another (as we know he always like 2)She politely asked and said "of course I will pay for it" to which the same man responds " well of course you will, they aren't free are they?!"...unbelievably rude!!The meals were okay for the price but obviously all frozen. All you can say about this place is that it's cheap and okay for a cup of tea (although since you can also get tea from one of the other kiosks I wouldn't bother).This man does not deserve any business, avoid at all costs!

Just awful. Avoid this place at all costs!!! The hot drinks taste and look like they’ve just been scooped straight from the sea water!!

Visited today after a day on the beach and I can honestly say it is the worst fish and chips I have ever eaten. If you are expecting it to be fresh like at a chip shop you will be very disappointed. It is and I am being very polite value frozen fish which you would cook in the oven deep fried so it goes all hard and dry. Absolutely awful. The older man serving was also very rude. You will get nicer fish in the fish fingers at McDonalds!!

This is most definitely the worst fish and chips we have ever had. Location is great but the service and food was appalling. Basically frozen fish and chips that you would buy from farm foods and put in the oven but at fresh prices. Robbing people blind. We looked at it and binned it. Awful

This has an amazing location and the coffee is good, Shame the same cannot be said for the service, friendliness or food. The service is slow with most staff stood looking at you while one person cooks and one serves. The food is average and definately frozen,prices are at the top end.Coffee is milky and pre made then steamed to warm it up, however, it is nice and always hot.I have never had the staff being rude to me however I have witnessed them being rude to other customers and are amazed they at still open.If you want fresh seaside fish and chips then I would avoid here, however, for a drink it is ok.

Visited midday 29th August with my wife. Being at the seaside I really fancied Fish and Chips. The menu instructs you to order your fish upon arrival, I foolishly thought this would mean it to be fresh and cooked to order. What an unmitigated disaster! The fish was the smallest, cheapest piece of frozen imported rubbish I have ever experienced. The chips were also frozen. An absolute rip off. The Town Council should give the proprietor his marching orders - he does nothing except let the town done.

The man in this fish and chip shop was rude and the food was disgusting. The chips taste of cardboard and he has the ordasity to charge £3.20 for re-heated frozen fish out a box. Absolutely worst I have ever had. When you are literally on the sea side you can get fresh fish. Do not reccomend at all.

Went there with my family ordered 3 fish and chips and kids nuggets and chips. When it arrived the fish and chips looked like the frozen stuff you would put in the oven! The nugget meal was tiny for what they charge. We asked for a knife for our sons meals and he had the cheek to charge us 5p considering we had spent quite alot. The forks were useless and bent hard to eat with. There were dogs one which was really smelly and put us off. Customer service was shocking the man was very rude. Would not recommend this place to anyone and will definitly not be returning.

I was looking forward to visiting this little cabin that I had been told about as it is one of the few places in Rhyl you can buy seafood. Unfortunately my daughter wanted a subway sandwich across the street so I brought her sandwich and headed over to the cabin. It was a quiet day today and there were lots of empty tables, I sat my daughter down and headed over to the counter. The woman who came to serve me was abruptly told by the gentleman behind the counter I was not to be served as we had a subway sandwich. I exclaimed “pardon”to the gentlemen who again repeated were not serving you! I was totally disgusted by his attitude as we were purchasing food from his cabin also. It was not like we were asking to use his tables without consuming his food. Obviously he is not concerned to receive bad reviews or loose paying custom. I will not be returning again

Areas for seating as well as a range of items on the menu. Also sells fresh seafoood (mussels, cockles etc.)

Have paid several visits here over the past couple of years and, sadly, it seems to have declined each time, after a very good start.

Honestly disgusted in this place the food is ridiculously priced and it's vile there is nothing fresh about any of the food, the owners are the rudest people I've ever met, don't deserve to be called the fish cabin.

Called in Fish Cabin on my way along Rhyl prom. Fish Cabin is on prom near the clock tower. Excellent coffee and a good range of. Fresh seafood. Fish is freshly cooked and there are some excellent bacon sandwiches. Good outside seating at takeaway prices.

Ridiculously long wait,awful food (especially the fish!) Rudest miserable "chef" (presume owner) ever. Hopefully they'll be knocking this place down soon for the gastro pub. AVOID.

Food was awful, young women behind counter didn't seem to know what to do and the old man behind the counter just seemed to shout orders at her. We ordered three burgers and one chips which came to just under £10. I really wished we hadn't of bothered, the burgers were served with one sachet on tomato sauce and tasted very cheap and the bagged frozen chips came with no sauce. I was expecting proper chippy chips with it being called The Fish Cabin and when I asked for another tomato sauce the very rude man said 10p NO please or thank you! I would never go back and it's a real shame for Rhyl beach front to have this man and dreadful food in a great location.

So we fancied fish and chips on the beach. I'll go and get them I said...... an hour later I return with food not fit for my dog.

Well, myself the wife and the child visited Rhyl today for the second day of the 2017 airshow.

I called here coming home from Conwy, I ordered eight portions of fish and chips for our party and various drinks. One of the young ones said they wanted some red sauce (ketchup). I asked the young lady behind the counter for a sachet and she replied 10p. I laughed and told her I've just spent 28 quid on food can I not just have one reminding her also that I let here keep about 15 pence in change when paying. She looked over her shoulder where a grubby looking bald old man hissed to her "what does he want", when she told him he said dont give him one if he wont pay. He was not man enough to say it to my face and got his grand daughter to do his dirty work. not wanting to cause a scene in front of the kids and in laws, I let this seedy little man off the hook instead of giving him the roasting he deserved but if I can be bothered I will call back one day and tell what I think about his attitude.

Yo soy muy exigente cuando se trata de chips, y dado este lugar es sólo un kiosco en el paseo marítimo, no tienen esperanzas especialmente alto, pero las patatas fritas eran probablemente el mejor que he probado en el norte de Gales - un buen color, macizos y muy importante para mí, no grasienta. Las porciones son generosas, los precios son buenos (aunque el té y pequeña en £1 es muy pequeña). Puedes comer afuera en las mesas de picnic, pero si hace viento o wet hay pocas mesas dentro. Es perro.. Sin duda recomendable.

Great snack foods, freshly cooked and served with a smile. Delicious, traditional, seaside menu, but the fresh fish is lovely.

we visited here last summer whilst staying at presthaven, after a trip to the sea aquarium opposite it. we were so impressed with the fish and chips that it was the first place we visited upon our return this year....the batter is amazing every time and every bit as good as we remembered from last year. the owner is so friendly, fantastic with the kids and couldn't do enough for us, we really felt at home. so much so that it was our main eatery for the duration of our stay. I have to be honest, im quite confused by the poor review and can only assume that its either a competitor or the reviewer has reviewed the wrong establishment? last year, and this year, the place had picnic tables outside and similar inside where the table and chairs are literally one...fused together...so how can they have taken a chair? you can even see this from the picture another reviewer has provided. also, we have met the staff along with the owner and they seemed very close to me, smiles all around, friendly, talkative.... and if the child is so little, wouldn't it have been in a buggy? our little one of a similar age was in a buggy, although we did seat her, and there was no problem seating her. there was no charge given to us for the cutlery either...or the sauces, in fact we got some complimentary gravy for our children! and we had no problems taking the salt and vinegar to the tables, in fact the owner pointed to where they were for us to take them! during one particular visit, our 6 year old needed the loo, and the owner gave us the 30p to use the public toilets as we had no change and he gave one of our children a little teddy bear which he was using for display purposes as she had taken a liking to it.
