Great pub, great atmosphere, local treasure, no cooked food, very well kept beers, free house, owner managed, real fire, traditional village pub.

This place was recommended to us by a local via a local community social media group. To say we were disappointed and disgusted is an understatement. We were told they served food but when we asked we were basically talk to like children - “if we didn’t like it you know what to ask”. We’d only just walked in. The place was dead and we’re not surprised with that attitude. Miserable. We dint normally post bad reviews but the attitude and service there doesn’t warrant any of our hard earned money

Large car park, food and accommodation offered. Booking highly recommend as generally very busy. Good varied menu and prompt service by friendly staff. Never been disappointed with the food served and the tradition beer was well kept and not served too cold (an issue with many local pubs). Our group and family will certainly continue to visit this pub.

Terrible pub? That’s a cruel joke. I’d only been in once and now I’m in the Pool Team. The ales are excellent. The atmosphere is brilliant. Friendly? Well.... how do you describe friendly? I’d describe it as somewhere you feel at home while not at home. The banter, the people, the landlady/owner Lorna, and her right hand man, Mike, know how to turn a one off visitor into a local. Pool/Darts/Crib, your usual pub games are on hand. I’m looking forward to FinnFest. As soon as they learned I play guitar and write songs, I was asked to come along and do a Sunday Afternoon gig. It’s a work in progress. Gotta rehearse. As it’s not something I’d normally do. But I can’t wait. Maybe wangle an invite to play in FinnFest. But either way you cut it. The Finningham White Horse is an excellent place to while away some time in pleasant company. Maybe I’ll see you there.

No frills pub so nice to find these days with most of them trying to become restaurants. Great range of ales, 5 when I first frequented the White Horse with the usual selection of bottles etc. For hot food they do a great line in pizza but that’s about it unless there’s a function on, then it’s the standard pub nibbles. Pool, darts, TV, and a variety of functions regularly going on. Very friendly and nothing is to much trouble recommend a visit.

This pub has gone terribly downhill, I'm afraid. When I went there, I could smell smoke. It is not the cleanest feeling pub - the loos were not particularly wholesome. If you want a pub locally, go to the Trowel and Hammer, Four Horseshoes or the other White Horse on the A140.

As a group of 6 (4 adults + 2 children) we booked early on the day of our visit for a table for the carvery. We arrived on time and were not greeted by any staff. Only one member of staff was visible, in the bar. We joined the queue behind another 2 couples. The barman had to serve the drinks (which he was not very proficient at) and also take the food orders. Cokes were served in cans and I had to ask for glasses. It took over 10 minutes to order our drinks and food. I'm not comfortable with paying in a pub before eating. We were not shown to our table but had to guess by the number of seats. When we got into the room where the carvery was being served we saw that there was only enough meat left for a couple of people, whilst there was a group getting their food. The carvery starts at 12:30 and we were booked in for 1pm. LOL they had already run out of lamb despite serving only a handful of people before us. The beef is all that was left (enough for maybe 3 servings). The people then getting their food complained that the pork was not available as advertised. The chef informed them (by arguing and being rude) that the pork was still red in the middle and said it was all of the customer's fault for not booking days in advance. There was only broccoli and possiblt cauliflower available at this point. Got to love the preparation they put into this! They have billboards outside promoting the carvery. I had planned to bring my 4 year old daughter out for a birthday meal. Her birthday was the day of the experience. I did not have any intention of waiting for pork to cook, especially as the majority of us wanted the nonexistent beef. We all had enough at that point and decided to leave, abandoning our drinks, in the hope of finding somewhere half decent for a meal. Getting the money back for the food was not pleasant. The guy serving the food was now sorting our refunds. He told us very rudely that we had taken all of his change and that he had only notes so we had to give him change back. We questioned again why they were so unprepared for customers but this just resulted in attitude and a sarcastic apology. We suggested maybe they should remove the billboard as they were not serving. It's not right to expect customers to wait over an hour. Especially with 2 young children. As I was waiting in line behind the others in my group for my refund my children went outside the pub with my boyfriend and the little 4 year old birthday girl slipped on her way out and hurt herself; she was crying. I said "oh, now *** has fell over and hurt herself". The man giving refunds said "nevermind". I am seriously fuming over the attitudes, behaviour and total lack of professionalism I encountered today.

Went today 14/6/14, should of taken note of the lack of cars, but went in anyway only to be stared at on walking in by three people ( they were staff, they didn't seem very welcoming at all ) I asked if they did meals and they said yes, I asked where should I sit they said wherever! So went to sit down, ( staff made no attempt to come over with any menu's ) had to then go and find out should I order the food from the bar, was told yes, with only 4 items to choose from on the board for hot meals and a list of cold baguettes, I asked if the ploughmans was with cheese or ham, female behind counter said she didnt know and asked the young man standing next to her he said he didnt know then he went out the back, he came back saying there was no ham so couldn't have a ploughmans as they had no ham ( by this time I had alarm bells going off in my head, but still stayed - benefit of the doubt and all that ) I ordered 3 baguettes with beef and 3 drinks, had to ask if I could have ice in my drinks, as they didn't have any ice, they had to fetch ice from out the back, the baguettes came, they were stale and the salad with it was brown and curling up at the edges, on telling the bar man, who we had to ask for a knife and fork and serviettes, a man turned up next to me and asked what the problem was, I said the bread was stale and the salad not fresh, he said the bread was only two days old and couldn't see the problem !!!! Well I can see a problem right there, two day day old baguettes, goes out for the birds. He refunded the money - so he should - how on earth they expect to make a go of this pub is beyond me, no wonder they had no customers, you have been warned DO NOT EAT HERE !

On a previous visit to Finningham we called at the White Horse, and found it closed. Driving through recently we stopped as there were blackboards outside advertising beers and a lunch menu at £3.99. The menu inside was a list of sandwiches. The two real ales were Woodfordes Wherry - OK but a bit flat, and Ghost Ship, the least interesting of beers brewed by Adnams. The middle-aged man who served our drinks, may have been the tennant, but showed little interest in us and was not well presented. On this form the pub will jog on as a basic pub with no proper food and little atmosphere.. It will require a lot of hard work to put it back to where it was a few years ago.!

The White Horse which re-opened at the end of 2013, after a gap in ownership, is closed again. We do hope it will 'rise from the ashes' soon, as in the right hands it has the potential of being successful again, and again on our list of pubs to visit.Village pubs are different from those in towns and cities. The management must be positive in creating a welcoming atmosphere with the staff building rapport with both regular and occasional customers. Apart from good beer and decent wines there should be a compact menu of freshly cooked dishes at sensible prices. The 'gastropub' is all very well where there is an affluent local clientele - not all villages have this!We look forward to visiting the White Horse again for a drink, a chat and perhaps a simple lunch or supper.

I have reviewed this place previously and stand by my previous review for Sunday lunch at the time it was written but having now come back it has gone drastically downhill. The menu is that of an up market restaurant but in a pub. They offer this menu in the bar area too...it feels like they're not sure what they are offering.£12 for chicken in white wine sauce is a lot for a village pub and it was nothing special to be honest. But we had £5 off a 2 course meal so weren't too fussy as dessert was effectively free. But when dessert came...£4.25 for cheesecake. Acceptable in most places. THIS WAS A FROZEN ASDA CHEESECAKE AND I GOT THE SMALLEST POSSIBLE SLITHER!! THE WHOLE THING IN ASDA COSTS £2!!I was thoroughly disappointed that a place trying to sell itself as up market with its menu would dream of doing this. Charge the price for what it is and no one can complain.I will never be returning.Average across the board and a thoroughly disappointing end.

The first meal was served 30 minutes after we sat down, the last meal arrived 40 minutes later. My meal, the daily special of lamb cutlets priced at £15.95 arrived on a stone-cold plate, the food itself hardly warm. After complaining it was returned to me, the plate still lukewarm, the food completely spoiled. No sign of mint sauce although there was some green fragments on the meat.Definitely overpriced.Other diners had various complaints. Will not be recommending for "pub of the year"

We came across The White Horse while travelling through Suffolk. Apparently the pub is under new management. It offers a selection of good food and a wide selection of drinks. The pub has an inviting and well laid out restaurant, a small lounge with roaring log fire and a bar. Bar snacks were available and at the time of our visit there was a good selection of wine, spirits and pumps with Pedigree and Wherry as well as a lagers. The food was fresh and good value for money. The staff were courteous, attentive without being intrusive and obviously took pride in their appearance. The toilets were spotless and well maintained and the overall impression was of a very well run establishment with staff who were eager to please.Having spoken to some of the staff they seemed pleased to welcome walkers and their dogs, which we found very helpful. We will most certainly be returning in the near future.

We have agreed that maybe the food isn't their forte but the pub was nice and we'd happily go back for drinks - with the ale coming recommended! As for the food - the menu seemed schizophrenic with two different styles of meal offered; gastro pub and regular bar food. The first meals we chose they had run out of so we had jacket potatoes and sausage n mash...Sausages were ok, mash wasn't great, served with a dribble of gravy and raw onion on top - the veg never arrived. Jacket potatoes came with a side order of chips but the strangest was, having been offered the opportunity to have 2 toppings, half of each, the tuna mayo and sweet chilli mayo prawns mixed together to make a unique flavour sensation! I was expecting two separate side, after all - I could have mixed if I wanted to! The dirty piece of lettuce and cherry tomato cut in half on the side added littleWe suspect the chef was on a break but if serving throughout the day as they appear to they really should have someone more capable and sort out the menu it could be pleasant!

All quite young but well dressed, smart and knowledgable. Speed was very fast for order taking as well as serving up food. The food had a lot to live up to as the previous team offered a large, home-made, delicious roast dinner for just £9.95 and they did not disappoint! This public house has been freshly redecorated, but can't seem to decide whether it is a restaurant or a pub serving food. Over- fussy, old-fashioned, "fine dining" details: eg paper knapkin rings!! The menus were suspiciously extensive for such a small rural eating venue, and sure enough, none of the food was freshly-prepared, and all poorly heated/ deep fried. Sorry guys, the food has got to be freshly cooked from fresh ingredients, by someone who knows how to cook. Sorry, but everything about this meal was tragic. You should be spending your money on the food, not the expensive, irrelevant details. The lovely, cheerful young front of house staff were patently completely inexperienced, and looked uncomfortable and stilted in ridiculously formal clothing.

Easter weekend and another great meal at a great price at this lovely, friendly pub. Has to be the best food for miles around and, so far, has been totally reliable on each visit. This time, we took our friends here for Easter Sunday lunch and had three faultless courses each. The battered whitebait to start made an interesting change and was excellent. For main course, we all had roast beef which we asked for rare and we certainly got what we asked for: large, thick slices of tender beef cooked to perfection, accompanied by the works - at least four veg (parsnip, broccoli, cauliflower and savoy cabbage), maybe there were five, plus crunchy roast potatoes, and perfect yorkshire pudding along with superb gravy. The desserts are homemade, of course - I had summer fruits crumble which was delicious - and all the portions here are giant-sized, so make sure you are hungry! And all this for £11 for two courses, £14 for three! Hardly worth bothering going anywhere else. Can't recommend this enough.

Every occasion we have been to the Finningham White Horse since the current proprietors, Roy and Dawn, took it on has been a happy experience. The first time we went there, we had just driven from London and walked in some time after 9 pm, tired and hungry. Although the kitchen was officially closed, we were immediately offered fish and chips by Roy, who is also the chef. Not just any fish and chips. This has got to be the best cod and chips in the land, and also probably the largest. We vowed to go back again and we did. And we vowed to go back again and we did, with the family this time....and we vowed to go back again and we just have done. On each visit, we have always received a warm welcome from Roy, Dawn and their staff, and the atmosphere has always been very friendly and comfortable, and the food has been consistently excellent. This time, we wanted a quick meal and, although they were catering for a party of 14 people who had ordered just before my wife and I, they still managed to produce our food within a few minutes, despite having warned us it might take a bit longer than usual. The food was superb. My pork loin and my wife's rump steak were cooked to perfection, and both were beautifully tender and tasty, certainly the best we had experienced for a long time. There were plenty of accompanying vegetables which were also cooked perfectly. From the outside, the Finningham White Horse looks like an unassuming, traditional British country pub, but it just happens to serve some of the best food around - not at all pretentious, just prepared and presented to the kind of standard one would expect of a top restaurant, only at pub prices. Don't go if you're not hungry, though, because the portions are large and you won't want to leave anything on your plate. And the beer's good, too!!

Hellomy brother has just moved to the area and has been to this pub for food about 6 times now and he said the food was wonderful, so we all went for a meal Friday night. My Mum was staying with me from Overseas too so we all met at the pub. A table was booked for 7.30pm and we decided to sit in an area with sofas for a while with our drinks before going to our table as we arrived early. The pub was first built in the 15th Century and is cozy and has wooden beams and is very traditional looking. The staff were very friendly and kind and the owners were there too and were chatty and very nice. At 7.30pm we ordered our food and was then shown to our table. The restaurant area is cozy too with wooden tables and chairs, it is basic but nice, traditional village pub style. The pub was busy and had a nice atmosphere. I ordered a starter of chicken strips in bread crumbs with salad and chilli dip for £4.95 which was just the right size and very tasty. My brother had the same. My mother shared a starter which I believe was warm bread with olive oil and olives and cold meats of some sort, which she enjoyed. The starters were all just the right size. For my main I ordered 10oz Rump steak- Char-grilled to your liking, served with thick chips, homemade onion rings and fresh salad for £12.95. I asked to have new potatoes instead of chips which was no problem at all. My steak was juicy and very tasty and cooked perfectly. The onion rings were home made and tasty and the salad and everything else was really nice. I really enjoyed the meal. My Mum had fish pie with veggies(£8.95) which she really enjoyed and hubby had pie of the week( steak and ale) and so did my brother and his partner had a fish platter with battered fish such as scampi and it came with chunky chips and it looked amazing. The food was all home made and very tasty and everyone loved their meals. The portion sizes were not small or huge but just right. We decided to wait about 20 minutes before ordering dessert to let our meal go down. After 20 minutes we asked about desserts and was bought the dessert board which listed some lovely sounding desserts. Spotted dick, treacle sponge pudding, rocky road cake, Eton mess cheesecake etc, all home made. I went for the Eton mess cheesecake and I think it was £3.95. 2 other people had this too and it came with either ice cream or cream. I really enjoyed mine but the other 2 people said theirs was nice, but frozen in the middle. Think it must of been made and then frozen and then taken out of freezer to defrost but it had not quite defrosted fully in the middle. It just needed longer to defrost then it would of been perfect. My brother had treacle sponge which looked really nice and he really enjoyed that and his partner had spotted dick with custard which looked fab too. So we really enjoyed the entire meal and thought the hearty home made food was very tasty and great value and quality. Only tiny neg was the slightly frozen cheesecake. The staff and owners were warm and welcoming and the owners chatted with us and we felt relaxed and at home. All the food is made fresh and from scratch and it shows. I loved my entire meal. The menu choice is small and simple but there is enough on it to keep everyone happy. The prices are very good. Drinks were sensible prices too. This pub is a down to earth family run village pub which does simple honest home made hearty pub food. I give the entire experience 9.5 out of 10. I cannot wait to go back as I had a great meal and night. I also met the owners dog which was only let into the pub after people had finished eating later that night and it was a small dog which was well mannered and did not trouble anyone. It was very sweet and very well behaved indeed. The people who run this pub have got everything right. The food, service and prices and atmosphere are all spot on. Looking forward to many more meals here in future.

Nice warm welcome, very polite staff. All had starters which were nice, especiall the hot thick veg soup and cheesey bread. All had roast beef for main, not on over sized plates, but filled with two nice slicers of rib beef that melted in your mouth, along with hot fresh roast potatoes(3) 1 new boiled, again fresh cooked to perfection sweed, brocoli, cauliflower, baby brussels, parnips, topped with a home made crispy yorkshire pudding & gravy. Then we had nice desserts, spotty dick and custard was lovely as was the strawberry cheesecake and cream. A really nice enjoyable sunday roast with good service, And, all this lovely food for just £12.00 for three courses, only regret i wish i would of took my mums advise and had sunday lunch there sooner. Well done and thank you.We will be back soon

Best fish and chips for miles around. Friendly staff and generally a nicer atmoshpere than other pubs in the area- landlord was very welcoming and we sat in the pub area, getting stuck into what I can only describe as the most succulent beer battered fish and chunky chips Ive had for years... Not the biggest of places, but that just goes to add to the cosy, personable feel of the place- and with oak beams a plenty- its a traditional pub that we'll definately be visiting again...

Booked a table in the Restaurant on a Friday night. How I regret making that booking! The restaurant can only be described as a games room, with two dart boards The lighting was so bright I felt I was at a circus. The menu is limited and had a complete lack of choice. The service I can on describe as the worst I have ever experienced. Every other eating establishment I have ever visited hands over the bill, yet hear they read out what you have eaten and then tell you the price. If your looking for a nice meal that you can enjoy with friends and family, then give this place a miss.

Popped in on the off-chance of getting a gluten free meal. After checking we got a table with a menu with quite a few gf options annotated on the menu. Had battered prawns with a cajun dip which the wife enjoyed. I had the chicken skewer not gf but very nice. Staff very friendly and helpful. Reasonably priced and close to where we were staying.

Very sorry to say our meal was mediocre, which is a shame as I would love to support this community local pub. I felt the menu choices were fairly limited, the only main special was the pie - roast pork and leek, which I thought an odd combo for a pie. I had the chicken burger - the bread was that floppy cheap sort of roll that comes ready cut, the burger was just OK, nothing special. The service was very good however, no complaints there. Maybe we just hit a bad night.
