First visit to the Cresset venue for a show, arrived 1.5 hours prior expecting to be able to eat first. People were eating when we arrived but couldn't find any menus so my husband went to ask at the bar to be told only food served if you had pre booked. There was one person serving behind the bar and we only saw one lady serving food, possibly more in the kitchen. The pub is situated in the Creset centre next to the theatre, so would be ideal if you could get a meal! It wasn't overly busy when we visited and there were tables vacant. We had to make do with just a drink which rather put a damper on our evening as we hadn't eaten prior, not knowing what time we were likely to arrive given the rush hour traffic we needed to travel through. The pub is nothing special serving just basic bar food, no separate restaurant hence not the sort that you would think required booking if wishing to eat.

We had booked for 4 prior to a concert - our friends couldn't make it so my husband called to amend the booking. We still had she retirned toa table for 4, set for 2. We arrived early (bonus was that we were able to park free at the Cresset, which this pub is part of). Our server, Wendy, was very attentive. We were seated and she gave us a few moments to consider drinks orders - I personally hate it when your backside has even landed on the chair and you're asked for your drink request. Drinks speedily arrived and again she asked i we wanted a few moments to select our food. We did, and she left us to it. We then placed our order, a starter to share, a small plate for me of ham, egg & chips and a chicken burger for my husband. Wendy was concerned that Tim had asked for gluten free but the chicken breast is breaded. We assured him that this was fine - he is not allergic, just feels better if not stuffed with gluten. She doubly checked that it would be fine - and again we reassured her. Our garlic mushrooms were delicious - tasted fresh, not frozen and the garlic dip was delicious. When I complimented her, she seemed pleased with the feedback. My small plate comprised 22 slices of thick cut ham, 1 egg & plenty of chips. My husband's burger (really a chicken breast) was delicious. I asked for another glass of wine - and realised that tea/coffee were included in the v reasonable £5.50. She asked if I was having both - and I whispered my husband was having the coffee - she laughed! A very pleasant dining experience - we were early for the show and she assured us that the table was ours for as long as we wanted it. Thanks Wendy - we're not local to Peterborough, but would return if we going to another show.

We had a couple of hours to kill so went to the Fayre Spot before the show. We hadn't booked a table but the staff found us a small table for just the two of us. We ordered drinks and quickly got to order our food. Whilst we were waiting it gave us time to look at the decor of the place. "Dated and tired" sprang to mind. From the fake brickwork around the fireplace (you can easily see it's fake due to the covering peeling off some of the "bricks" and showing the foam underneath) to the carpet being a little worse for wear. Our food arrived within 15 minutes. I'd ordered beer batter fish, chips and peas, along with some beer battered onion rings. As I prefer mayo with my chips I asked for some and was given just 3 tiny sachets of it. The food really was disappointing. The peas tasted like they were out of a can and very bland. The chips were exceptionally dry, and the fish was dark and rubbery (normally caused by overcooking, although the thick layer of batter wouldn't have helped either). More battered than batter. I could only eat about 3/4 of the fish. The onion rings however tasted like they had been cooked by someone else although the batter was quite thick of those as well. My wife's food was equally as tough and rubbery. After we'd finished eating I made the mistake of visiting the toilets. Some kind of debris was smeared along the walls which was either squashed flies or possibly something from someone's nose. Not nice. The toilets are in need of a really good clean and re-painting. The only reason this review got two stars instead of one, was the attitude of the staff. Helpful, courteous, checking we were OK and very prompt service.

I rang at the last minute to see if we could eat before the show, knowing we couldn’t get there until 6.40 for a 7.30 start. The ladies couldn’t have been more helpful. Our table was ready, drinks arrived and our delicious food arrived very quickly. The menu is good honest pub grub and the lovely ladies were fabulous- thank you

Booked just over 24 hours before the reservation (yesterday afternoon), the man that answered the phone didn't even listen from the get go. I asked to reserve a table of 2 for tomorrow (tonight now) he said fully booked tonight sorry so I corrected him and explained I was looking for the next night he said oh ok yes that booked in. Thought all was well until I arrive at the restaurant to find out that the man on the phone booked us in at the wrong time and the restaurant was not even open tonight and that I had to eat elsewhere. Absolute disgrace which has meant that instead of a hot meal that I had anticipated I had to settle for cold expensive petrol stop food as I did not have time to arrange anything else before the show I was due to see. Not 1 staff member thought to inform us the restaurant was closed in the 24 hours the booking was made! Staff offered no form of compensation or alternative solution. WILL NOT BE RETURNING! DISGUSTING TREATMENT.

NOT WORTH THE 1 STAR Having not been for a few yrs due to ill health, I was elated to be able to visit for lunch with Hubby and the kids. As always staff were accommodating to our needs being 1 wheelchair user and 1 scooter user. However, that's as good as it got bar a Lovely quick catch up with Wendy (who is always amazing, alongside Jo). Unfortunately unbeknown to us, since visiting last, it's had a new manager who hired a "Professional Chef". Needles to say the food which always came UNSEASONED, now was, as with most "Professional Chefs", seasoned to within an inch of its life. When the food arrived, I enquired if it had been peppered to be told i'll check, it might be off the griddle, by the server (unknown), who never got back to us. I'd ordered an omelette, and upon the first bite, felt like I'd swallowed several mouthfuls of Sea water. (I should imagine the manager thinks this will make people drink more). Being intolerant to salt and pepper, I gagged. My sons chicken burger was inedible and incorrect. We reordered 2 meals. My husband, when he has salt, tends to over do it a bit, however, even he couldn't stomach the chunks of course Sea salt all over his chips. My daughters mash was slightly more palatable to begin with, despite being drier than the Sahara Desert. The onion rings were raw too. Having ordered more drinks and re ordered 2 meals, we finally received and finished 1 and 3/4's of an hour later. As if that wasn't bad enough, it cost £46, for food so basic, my ASD teenagers could have cooked it within half the time, and to a better standard. Quite frankly, I shall never step foot (or whhel) in there again. Its a shame,as we used to go weekly.

What can I say? Six months ago this would have been a five star review. Now breakfasts take 40 minutes to cook, and it’s cold when it arrives. Waiting staff always apologetic and helpful but doesn’t make up for long waits and freezing cold food. Not sure why it’s got so bad lately but unlikely to revisit. Much better to go to Sainsbury’s and get your breakfast hot. Such a shame this place has gone downhill.

Enjoyed a delicious lunch of salmon fillet, potatoes, green beans and hollandaise sauce. Decor is great. The staff were friendly and efficient. Smaller plates are offered on the menu and my grandson had the ham, egg and chips for £5 - very reasonable price.

Dirty and sticky tables. The food took at least a half an hour and when it arrived was generally cold and tasteless. Roast potatoes were cold in the middle and the meal reminded me of a supermarket meal for 1. Quite a few undesirable characters drinking in and around the centre. Probably be ok on a Theatre Night but would not bother to eat.

Nice welcome from bar staff. Drinks are well priced . Pint of Summersby Cider £2.35 and 250ml Pinot Grigio at £5.15 However my wife's Thai Fish Cakes were tasteless My Posh Sausages were initially served without the Yorkshire pudding. Waitress who served us was apologetic. Chef was stressed apparently, but it was served within a further 5 minutes The mashed potato was dreadful . Thee worst I have ever had. The green beans of a tired yellow colour and under cooked. Red cabbage I didn't even try Coffee was served hot in generous cups. Overall quite good staff, but as for the food.. We wont be repeating the visit in the near future. Such a shame as so convenient for the Cresset shows

Nice surroundings. Decent basic food. Fortunately this pub hasn't gone down the gastro food route, trying to deliver beyond it's means. Good priced food in a comfortable no frills pub.

The table service was great, in general customer service was great...no problems with staff... But...the food quality was below par to be fair :( which let it down. The veg was over cooked and really soggy.the roast potatoes and meat to be honest tasted flavourless which is such a shame :( microwave meal probably would have tasted a bit better. Really sorry Fayre Spot, but felt let down with the food.

6 of us had pre show meals and no one thought theirs was wonderful. The pasta dish was very bland, so much so that it was sent back. The chicken in the hunters chicken was pretty dry and the roast veg with the pork dish looked boiled rather than roasted. The apple pie had been microwaved - the pastry was gooey!!The service was really good and it is really handy to eat here before a show, but they really need to up their game, hardly anyone else was eating and this is probably the reason why

Firstly they knew the booking was for 20 people which was a mixture of adults and children. Well what can I say the food was absolutely terrible The food was cold when it came out we never ate together and the childrens meals took over an hour to come out. I would never go here again. When we complained they said it was due to having such a large party, although this was booked 6 weeks before the event which should have given them plenty of time to prepare for a large party.DO NOT EAT HERE.

Went for a meal prior to a show, service good but food was of a poor standard for the price paid, we had the whitebait starter, which had no bread with it - the steak was ok, but my wife’s curry lacked any flavour — very disappointing

Tried the fayre spot for a convenient pre theatre meal. Very mixed review as the staff were friendly and helpful and the food lovely but a basic choice of “pub type” food but ....... is it a pub or is it a restaurant ? The clientele were polar opposites the “restaurant “ end had quiet theatre goers - the pub end with loud music ( which was impossible to ignore in the restaurant) and loud heavy drinkers which again were impossible to ignore as the shouting was intrusive - one even swigging what looked like whisky from a bottle under his coat. Goodness knows how loud and “rough” it got later as we left at 7. So I can’t answer my own question is it city centre pub or is it a restaurant if it’s a pub it’s at the rougher end of the scale - perhaps some type screening could reduce the noise of music etc

I decided to give this place a go after hearing it had had a renovation as I refused to go in there before even though I only lived down the road. I was pleasantly surprised it looks lovely. Ladies working in there are really nice and willing to help in whatever way possible. The food is simple but really tasty. Would definitely recommend.

Booked a pre show table leaving 2 hours for meal and drink and was still waiting for meal 20 minutes before show started. The omens weren't good, when having been taken to table and told someone would be over to take drinks order, we waited 15 minutes before ordering at the bar. 2nd red flag was the weakest orange juice and lemonade ever poured. Let's call it lemonade. "Shall I put some more orange in that?" You mean there already is? 45 minutes and no order taken yet people arriving after us were being served. Went to till, ordered and explained the oversight. Apologies and promise we would be next. Meal never materialised, at least we weren't there to see it, so nipped to the Chippy next door, lovely.

Very cold welcome from staff. They could barely muster a smile and a grunt after I said good morning. We actually find it funny as it happens every time we go in for coffee.

We found ourselves stuck in heavy traffic, so detoured here. Clean, quiet, good range of hot and cold drinks. After an hour, we were refreshed and reinvigorated to get back on our journey. The heavy traffic had subsided.
