First visit after hearing and reading a lot about this place. On entry it is bright and an explosion of colour (with lots of red, Chinese theme). Spring rolls are a revelation, crispy, zero grease. No MSG, so sauces are light. The salt and pepper chicken and gong bao chicken were a delight, complemented with rice and vermicelli noodles. It is an odd feeling to leave a Chinese restaurant without feeling bloated. These meals were light, tasty, well presented. Excellent service, not sure if Gigi was at our table but the lady was as stunning as the food. The only downside is we will have to return and try other dishes and possibly take away. £70 for 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 sides, and a couple of soft drinks, however quality is rarely cheap. You must visit for yourselves. We will be returning No photos as the pictures on the menu reflect reality

The welcome was warm for our party of nine on a miserable Friday night. Loved the round table which makes things very sociable and the staff were helpful and attentive . We had a set menu which was great but we all also really enjoyed the cucumber salad and the griddled potatoes which we ordered as well. Highly recommended, thank you Gigi GAO

Twice the price for fairly standard UK Chinese food. Food was ok. Staff fairly pleasant. However the prices do not justify the quality of the food. Not sure how it won various awards. I’ve spent months in Hong Kong, China & Singapore. Food here is nothing like what I’ve had abroad.

Been a few times but seems things are slipping whilst the prices have gone up quite a bit. Little things like no Lazy Susan in the middle of a large round table which makes it harder to keep passing dishes, no warmers to keep the food warm. Part of our table had the set meal, but the broccoli dish came up 5/10 mins before the rest. Starters were poor. Small portions of everything, one very small bowl between three people. Nice enough place and staff are good but it is lacking, maybe taking it all for granted now established?

Had duck to start which was rock hard, so overcooked. It tasted like it had been cooked, set aside for quite some time and then reheated. Hubby had hot soup which was nice and we both liked it. Mains was grilled prawns which were ok, not what we expected as tasted like black bean sauce but the menu had no descriptions at all, just photo. Order chicken balls too, which were terrible. The batter was raw inside and gooey. Plain noodles tasteless and sticking together in a clump because they were too overcooked. Gigis was practically empty so it's not as if staff were run off their feet. Checked reviews before going, so was shocked at quality of food which was not cheap. A unique restaurant we were excited to go to but now we would never return to this restaurant.

Although more on the pricier side, for a special occasion, I highly recommend this restaurant. The decor is unlike any place I've eaten at and the service was fantastic. The food was amazing, with my personal favourite being the Lazi potatoes, although they are spicier than they claim in the menu. Note boiled rice comes in small bowls so order more than one if you plan to dine in large groups. Overall, definitely worth a try!

This restaurant has superb vegan Chinese food. We've been many times, in the past few years, and each time we've enjoyed the meal. Recently (as in the last six months) the food seems to have improved- both in portion size and quality. This is very much appreciated. We thought it was good before, but this most recent visit was superb. The tofu dishes were the best I've ever had, anywhere. We will return.

Very bright interior, staff dressed in traditional outfits making you feel you are in a quality restaurant. The food was exceptional, with some of our favourites cooked differently. Every dish was delicious and portions of good size. We didn't finish them all and were sorry to leave food uneaten. All in all a great experience helped by the friendly Chinese ladies.

This place really panders to folk (it's really decorated with lots of Giant pandas and other Chinese images). This roomy Marina-side restaurant is clean, most comfortable, and does a wide range of authentic regional Chinese dishes made from excellent ingredients. The drinks are also diverse, especially cocktails. Service is excellent and friendly. It also does a wider range of vegetarian options than is found in most Chinese restaurants. It's easy to see why it has won awards. A memorable experience!

We came here because of the vegan menu. Food was good. We had the set menu. Starters a bit greasy for me so would probably just stick with mains again. The food was delicious, especially the tofu. Unfortunately the portions of rice were stingy - one tiny bowl of rice for 3 people. We complained and were given an extra bowl and charged extra for it. My Mum loved the gift with the bill but it’s not exactly environmentally sustainable so would rather do without this and have a decent portion of rice personally.

Have had many takeaways from this restaurant and all been very good, unfortunately on Friday I ordered sweet and sour pork as a main dish, what I got was belly pork chopped into cubes which turned out to be mainly cubes of fat swimming in a black salty sauce .It was pretty disgusting and the few bits I did eat resulted in an upset stomach,I don't like leaving bad reviews on a place that I liked but feel that the owners are chasing the money and to hell with the quality, very unfortunate,!!!

We booked here as the website looked authentic and the GiGi’s replies online are perfect! I don’t understand how people have a bad experience here unless sat in silence and looking for disappointment, the place is an amazing night. There is so much choice on the menu to cater for anybody, the restaurant is also fun for the eyes with added bits you can buy . Anyway back to the food and maybe it would help to ask for recommendations, I luckily had someone that new what to look for as I would have been lost with the choice and the taste was perfect! Rich broth with soft pork, crispy tofu with a nice heat and we asked for a little added heat which they gladly said yes to, perfect veggies in stock, dim sum that was enjoyable and a plate of shredded potato which at first thought, nice side dish but the way it was done will get your feet tapping. The Chinese beer which is so good but easily drunk, you will need to be mindful, the whole night was perfect the dishes come out when done but we were lucky to get them in two goes but I really enjoy this way as nothing’s waiting around and you are excited to see what’s next, GiGi spoke to us at the end of the night and gave us a gift on leaving in the form of a lucky knot in any colour you want. If you are in Swansea you have to go!! Also the lanterns outside with the marina setting I would say go at night as it’s truly magical!!

Reserved a table in advance, anticipating a busy evening at an award-winning restaurant. Unfortunately, it was nothing but disappointing. We were seated at a table piled full of old menus and other clutter, which was eventually moved out of the way and dumped elsewhere by the waitress, without cleaning the table afterwards. We were provided with drinks and starters quickly. The mixed sharing starter was fine, but nothing special. We then waited over 1.5 hours for our main course to arrive. Meanwhile a number of other tables had arrived, eaten, paid & left! The waitress apologised twice and reassured us that the food was on its’ way. We weren’t even offered any more drinks. Both main courses eventually arrived. There was nothing wrong with the food but it was mediocre at best and certainly not worth the wait. Certainly not what I’d expect from an award winning restaurant. The manager reluctantly knocked 20% off our bill for their mistakes and told us we shouldn’t have come at such a busy time! (Baring in mind they accepted the booking in advance, this was an interesting statement). We were expecting a lot better from this place and won’t be returning.

Booked weeks in advance and arrived to a nice welcome, then seated at a table that hadn’t been cleaned since the last customer with no cutlery and their used glasses. These were removed and cutlery brought but still had previous diners food on the table surface. Totally unacceptable in times of COVID. Sauces available to order on the menu actually not available as too busy according to the manager (restaurant not even full), waited ages to order even drinks and people seated after us had orders taken and drinks and food brought before we had even a drink order taken. One starter didn’t arrive until 45 minutes after everyone else as it was taken to the wrong table then despite telling several servers we were waiting it wasn’t exactly quick in coming then barely finished before mains arrived. Toilets are disgustingly filthy and the rest of dining room not much cleaner. Nobody asked if everything was ok and no further drinks orders invited. Now the good - the staff were friendly if not very effective and the food was ok, not the greatest I’ve had to be honest but ok apart from the seaweed which had zero flavour and was like eating a Brillo pad that was just used to clean a chip pan. Overall a real disappointment and won’t be returning anytime soon nor can I recommend.

It was a warm Saturday afternoon. Perfect for an alfresco lunch. I was disappointed that they didn't have a lunch time menu and the drinks were very expensive. Although the food and service were very good (and the music lovely) this would put me off retuning at lunchtime and this may be the reason there are never many customers outside at lunchtimes whilst the restaurant next door is always busy.

We were there on an early Friday evening having booked in advance. The restaurant was full and they were turning people away. Food was excellent, reminding us of time spent in Sichuan province on holiday a few years ago. The starters were very good, though sadly we ordered 2 starters and the second didn't arrive until we'd finished the first. The mains all arrived at the same time but quite some time later. A sweet was good but again slow. A good vibe but pretty poor service. I would go again but perhaps at a time when it's quieter.

We had a nice meal here, and whilst meant to be one of the better places in Swansea, would say it's okay only. Walked past a few times and read all their self appraising advertising so called in on spec early one evening. We were given a table on the basis we left by a certain time, which seemed more than adequate at the time. Unfortunately the service was so slow and indifferent that most of the time allowed us was waiting time rather than enjoying the meal. We chose one of the set meals for two which was very average in quality and over priced at £40. Service seemed disorganised and haphazard, obtaining the bill took ages, when it did arrive the waitress apologised that our dirty dishes had not been cleared away. Never mind being asked if we wanted a sweet or coffee! We were not asked at any time if we had enjoyed the meal. We were saved any embarrassment regarding a tip being added to the bill , so we didn’t! I am normally keen on giving feedback direct to restaurant staff at the time. We just wanted to get out in all honestly and forget the bad decision we had made on selecting this restaurant.

The service was chaotic unfortunately and spoiled our night. My son and his girlfriend had starters, these came about one and a quarter hours after we arrived. About 20 minutes later, they had their main course, my wife and I were brought a bowl of rice each but nothing to accompany them. After 15 minutes when my son and his girlfriend had finished their main course, we still had our bowl of (now cold) rice only in front of us. We asked about the main course for myself and my wife. After about 10 minutes my wife's main meal arrived but not mine. I asked about mine again twice, about 10 minutes later my main course arrived. Absolutely chaotic, it would have been nice if we could have all eaten our meals at the same time. The food was very good but the service was terrible. At the end, when I asked about this, I was told it was always busy on a Saturday night. That is not a valid response, if it's always busy then, employ more staff in the kitchen for busy periods. I think that there needs to be somebody in that kitchen to take responsibility for organising food preparation so that the food for the whole table comes at the same time. Such a disappointment!

We have lived in a large city with a Chinese quarter so we’ve eaten plenty of Chinese food over the years, but I can honestly say this was the best Chinese food we have eaten in the UK. We went for lunch as soon as the restaurant opened at 12 noon. My wife is Singaporean Chinese so she knows Chinese food well, but she wasn't too impressed - we ordered pork and chicken dishes and they both came out within 3-4 minutes. I know the restaurant was quiet at midday but it was still suspiciously fast, especially as one (crispy chicken) had to be deep fried. The food tasted OK but certainly nothing to remember - we've had far better in China and Singapore. The biggest shock was the drinks though - £6 for a 640 ml bottle of Tsingtao ( which are 3 for £5 at Tesco and even cheaper at wholesale!) and even worse, £5 for a Chinese green tea, which although served in a fancy cup, contained 2 pence worth of tea leaves. We probably won't return in a hurry.

Staff were not in any way welcoming or engaging. I asked a very simple question about the difference between two dishes and all I got was a mumble with a hint of attitude. I ordered a very simple starter of dumplings and yet it it came very late, after my friend's had had their starter and recieved the first of their main. When asking for some tap water, you'd have thought they were getting it fresh from Everest. My friends asked why they did not have certain dishes in the set meal that were advertised on their menu and they just shrugged and said "Don't have any". Although my portion size was OK, my friends was really lacking considering they had a £30 set meal, and also the food was really basic. The starter platter felt like something youd buy in a £5 meal deal in Morrisons. The nicest thing they had, and we all agreed on this, was the broccoli. It was the best tasting broccoli we ever had. But... it was broccoli, and then when a friend provided polite feedback, he might as well have disrespected the entire nation of China with the look on her face.I can not believe this place is ranked so highly. Very over priced. Really poor service. Bad attitude. Bang average food. Small portions.

The most important thing is that the food here is AMAZING, a far cry from the greasy, salty Chinese food that most British people seem to enjoy from your average takeaway. We visited for our anniversary and both had a lovely meal with vegan options available too. The service was a little clunky and we had to wait a little while to be served, but the food more than made up for it and when we did speak with staff they were all lovely and very polite. The decor is quirky and don't be fooled by this, it doesn't look like a swish restaurant inside, but it's bright and fun and food is top class. We had a bottle of wine, 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 sides and it came to just over £50, and upon settling the bill we were handed a little gift too. Oh, and if you can't finish it all, they'll always offer to box it up to take home. Highly recommended.

A little difficult to write review of the restaurant as currently not allowed to be open. Previous experience has always been excellent. During these difficult times of 'lockdown', it was a hugely enjoyable experience to have such sumptuous meal delivered to our home to help celebrate my birthday. We had opted for a 'set meal' for 2 with a couple of additions (as there were 3 of us). The quality of the food was excellent, the varied choices of the dishes provided assurance that we all had our favourites and experienced different choices and flavours too. Amazing that Gigi is able to continue to prepare and provide excellent quality food and deliver it to customers own homes. obviously we missed the atmosphere and experience of the lovely restaurant but we still experienced the superb customer care and attention to detail of customer service. We had this lovely meal twice - as my husband, despite secretly planning the surprise meal for a few days, made an error on confirming the order, consequently it arrived on the wrong day and Gigi very kindly and not at all necessarily insisted on providing it on the correct day too. Fantastic food, amazing service. Fresh food, no artificial additives, beautiful flavours. Most definitely order again.

I am vegan so was super surprised this time to find they have a vegan menu. If you want top quality chinese food with some sparkle, this is the place for you!

What a welcoming group of people. Friendly, but not interfering as you eat. A lovey bottle of wine the simple house rose. And the chairman pork was amazing. So flavoursome and tasty. Added a egg fried rice. Also someone’s birthday there and had a lovey rendition of happy birthday in Chinese. Learn something new every day!

This was my first visit. The atmosphere was welcoming, and tables were set complete with customised crockery, which was a nice touch. The menu featured dishes the do not regularly appear on the menus of other Chinese establishments, so offers a great opportunity to try new things. The food was incredible, I opted for Stewed Pork, which was hands down the best Pork dish I have ever eaten! I will definitely make a point to visit again whilst in the local area. Highly recommended!

It's been around a year since I first went to Gigi Gao's with my boyfriend and gave a 5* review- since then we've become regular customers because of the consistently excellent food and great service. Every single time we've visited we've been impressed with the amazing food quality and attentive, friendly staff. We couldn't ask for a better dining experince, and we visit as often as possible. Even on a busy night, Gigi makes every customer feel welcomed and like family, not to mention that the food is outstanding every time without fail- we've been on many occasions and have never been disappointed (which is something you cant say of most restaurants).I hope anyone reading this decides to visit, as I'm certain you won't regret it!

My family and I just adore gigi's, its truly one of the most friendly, caring and customer orientated places and they treat you like family. We have been a few times (less than 10) but even after our first visit they remember our allergies, my daughters name and us in general- something you don't get at a lost of places. They really do incorporate everything authentic where possible, from the lovely little gifts on your birthday (red envelope, and a keepsake of the year you were born was the most recent) to singing Happy birthday in mandarin /cantonese (im not 100 percent sure which regional dialect to be exact) My daughter is treated like a princess every time she attends and its the only venue that she will eat or try something new at, which is a big achievement for us- this is because she feels comfortable and really enjoys the flavour of the cuisine (they also give her adorable panda hats!)The food is always served with a smile, nothing is ever to much for the staff and the food is always served at the perfect temp with lots of flavour! If you go here I highly recommend trying the lychee juice, the lychee ice cream and custard bao for desert, the dim sum for starters alongside the sweetcorn soup , chicken skewers and shredded potatoe- and the beef curry with jasmine rice for mains. This review is for two visits,- the first was when we were able to return after lockdown was lifted. Everything was spotless, there is sanitiser in all the necessary sections and the toilets were spotless (please note that this is an older building and the toilets albeit clean are smaller with the disabled access being on the main floor and the others up a set of stairs ) Not only was the food amazing, they were also part of the eat out to help out scheme, so we ordered a lot of food ! We took this as a chance to try more things that we hadn't tried on the menu while also helping Gigi's after so long in the abyss of lockdown. Each and everything was amazing. The second time was for my 34th birthday! again, they took our details, did everything by the guidelines and we santised. We ordered and array of food and drinks while enjoying the view of the marina. Once everything was done I was presented with a gorgeous Year of the tiger keepsake, my daughter had an adorable panda hat and they sang happy birthday (free ice cream!) I did cry a little...I highly recommend a visit, also take away if your shielding.

This is a very weird place. The crackers are too hard. The chicken and sweet corn soup is really nothing special. There was no chicken in it!The chicken main I had was actually exactly what I wanted when I ordered it but the disappointment of the soup passed on to that dish so I didn’t really enjoy anything.

This place was everything I'd hoped for. Located alongside Swansea Marina, Gigi Gao's provided a lovely dinner experience. The staff were so kind + sweet. The whole restaurant was decorated with pretty wall art and pandas, and the food was so delicious - the garlic pak choi + mushrooms were amazing. It was all presented so well, the plates were pretty and even the bill came in a cute little box. I will definitely be coming back here again soon :)

Wow! What can I say? It was my first time at this restaurant after rave reviews from my fiancé, so he took me here for my birthday. We ordered the crispy pork and the satay beef with egg fried rice - all of it was absolutely perfect! The beef was tender and cooked to perfection and the crispy pork did just that. It was lovely! To my pleasant surprise, the staff at Gigi Gao had arranged a free ice cream and a candle for my birthday while they sang happy birthday for me. Not only that, but I had a free gift based on my year of birth and a red envelope with golden money inside, which is a traditional gift to give in China when it’s someone’s birthday. I am blown away by the hospitality in this restaurant. I was so pleased! After this we ordered the toffee banana’s and they were also sublime. Please support this amazing restaurant during covid and after it too. These guys deserve all the best! We’ll definitely be back for sure. The price for 2 mains, a side, two drinks and a desert came to £30! I couldn’t believe it. Amazing. We forgot to leave a tip (sorry it was a genuine mistake) so we will leave double next time! Thank you so much for your amazing hospitality!

Super friendly staff. Mine and my boyfriends first ever visit to a Chinese restaurant for a sit down meal. We will 100% been returning. One of the best nights we've had in a while. Staff are very friendly - probably one of the best customer experiences we've both had, amazing food and all while following covid 19 rules. Very very pleasant experience. A review on trip advisor is the least I can do. Thank you and keep up the good work. :-)

Probably the best Chinese iRestaurant in UK. Great food in a brightly decorated restaurant. The service was good and the care in ensuring gluten free food for my wife was excellent. The food is exquisite in taste and presentation. It is also good to have a choice of more authentic Chinese meals. Do try this restaurant if you are in the Swansea area.

We've eaten at quite a few restaurants during eat out to help out and Gigi Hao's was one of the best that are Covid safe. We were met at the door and asked for out contact details, then were asked to sanitise our hands before being shown to our table. There is a one way system and an exit door separate to the entrance door. All staff wore masks. The only thing we didn't see were the menus being wiped down. That's not to say that they weren't though. Tables were a good distance apart from each other. We turned up without a reservation and were glad they could fit us in on a busy Saturday evening. We had a delicious meal starting with crispy duck, and the spicy sweet and sour chicken. Great service and very friendly staff. Definitely recommend.

We had a very enjoyable meal at the Favourite Chinese restaurant (Sunday 30th August), our first visit since Christmas Eve because of the lock-down situation. Started with roast duck and pancakes. Then we shared Hot Spicy Lamb, Lazy Chicken and Sweet & Sour pork with a couple of bottles each of Tsing Tao beer. For dessert we shared a serving of Toffee Bananas. Everything was delicious.Staff were, as always, very friendly and the restaurant is beautifully decorated.

The food here was so delicious, really the best Chinese I’ve tasted! Our visit was a little bit tainted though, we’d ordered the Set Menu A each which sounded really abundant on the menu, and when it arrived, it came with only 2 main options, and we just felt that the write up for it on the menu had been a bit misleading really. Such a shame, because it ruined the experience when everything else was so lovely - delicious food, and lovely service too, I’d like to add!

We were lucky to get a table on BH Monday without booking. Service was friendly and generally efficient. The floor of the restaurant was a bit grimey, staff wore face masks and there was hand sanitiser around. Location of the restaurant is good - right at the marina - & the decor is kitschy but interesting. We ordered a few dishes and they were all well cooked and tasty. The Yuxiang aubergine dish was a bit too sweet for me but hubs loved it. It was meant to be served with mince but was served with chicken instead. The spicy lamb dish was my fave & I like the fact that the Sze Chuan peppers were ground down - it was an explosion of flavours The spinach was perfectly cooked so it was the right amount of crunchiness. Egg fried rice was poor - you can hardly see or taste the egg! We also ordered the cute looking piggy custard steamed buns but they were quite small & filling in the buns was not very generous. All in all we found the food at Gigi's mostly very tasty and well cooked. The portions are a little small so it would be a bit pricey at full price. Glad we managed to try it and would recommend a visit when in Swansea!

We visited Gigi Gao on a Monday night with friends. This was our first time eating here since their move from Bryn-yr-mor Road. The food and service was good and there was plenty of space between tables and plenty of hand sanitiser. The chairman Mao pork, whilst nice was not as good as I remember. When I had it last, it came in a clay hotpot and was really saucy and spicy. This version, whilst nice was nowhere near as good. A lot less sauce and not spicy at all.The satay chicken was lovely and had a good kick to it.All in all, it was a good meal and £80 for four of us (should've been £120 without eat out to help out) was reasonable. The food whilst till very good was just not as nice as when they were smaller. I think they've lost something going to a larger premises.

Where do I start? The dim sum was either microwaved or cooked in the steamer too long, it was brittle. Pork dumplings came to the table cold. and all the other food was 5/10. The level of food and service got worse and worse as the 'eat out to help out' scheme continued throughout the month. 3 rd and last time I will go there ever. Hope they change the management there.

Stop reading this - get into the car and go now! You will not regret it. We visit every time we are in the area and have reccomended to so many others. The food is amazing - sweet and sour pork absolutley the best ever and the cumin beef was a revelation. Gigi and her team are very welcoming and friendly but the food is the star. I have eaten at Le Gavroche, Le Manoir (several times - it's just up the road from us) Rick Steins in Padstow, The Walnut tree, Abergavenny, The Carved Angel, Dartmouth and GIGI'S is the best. We all - both my boy's, husband and I - look forward to Gigi's every holiday - it's the highlight. Great atmosphere with Chinese music and decor. Gigi - THANK YOU...we will be back again....and again.......

1st meal out since being allowed out lol, and we wanted to go here as we been before. Booked online and paid the deposit which is a good idea, was dubious when I read the reviews from the beginning of August. No need, it was stunning as before, great service from the staff, tables spaced out and the food was awesome. We went for the set meal for two, starters, duck, chicken dish, prawn dish and garlic broccoli! In and out within an hour and with the Government’s £10 pp, we paid £40 for two. Best Chinese in Swansea, the food is not full of sugar or msg and it doesn’t bloat you like takeaway food does.

The food was brilliant, really interesting menu options, definitely recommend the chef’s special!! The staff were really well informed on menu knowledge, able to let me know what dishes would suit my taste and also were able to cook some salmon dishes some more for me as I’m not the biggest fan of cured salmon & raw fish.
