Just got home from my second visit to this wonderful pub! My family go regularly and always recommend it. Not only is the food amazing but Tiny, the pub landlord and his staff are just brilliant. So friendly, nothing too much trouble. Tiny always takes our 2 year old grandson for a wander round the pub to say hi to everyone and brings him a mini roast and ice cream. So chilled there and would highly recommend it to anyone! Thanks Tiny and team for a brilliant afternoon.

Our family are visiting Devon on holiday and wanted a Sunday roast. Reviews for the Fat Pig in Exeter were superb so booked ourselves in. So pleased we booked. The food and hospitality were exceptional. We all had roast dinner with starters and desserts. Everything was delicious. There’s a lovely friendly atmosphere in the pub with lots of laughter and a welcoming feel to it. This is due to the owners who go out of their way to make everyone welcome. Highly recommend and the next time we’re in the area we’d book up in a heartbeat.

After reading some of the negative reviews of this place I was a little concerned. Well. I was correct to be somewhat perturbed. The charming shiny headed barman quickly seated us in a lovely spot where I was told I was the doppelganger for Rick Astley. So far so good. A delightful waitress coerced us into ordering the scotch egg. Which was meaty heaven, moreso than Grindr before I got kicked off there. The mains were equally as delicious. To summarise. 5 stars.

We had won a voucher for our main courses at this restaurant and so went along to give it a try. It had such a lovely atmosphere from the moment that we walked through the door at 5.30pm. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. We sat down with our drinks at our reserved table and chose starters and mains. The good was excellent. I had chorizo and mussels, my husband had onion bhajis in cauliflower puree. Then for mains we both choose the pork. We were both stuffed, such a good meal. I do not hesitate to recommend this place.

Delicious food, warm ambience, great music and very welcoming host!!! This is my favourite restaurant in Exeter and it continues to wow me. The landlord/owner is friendly and attentive, their menu is interesting and changed periodically so it doesn’t pall. Just enjoyed a valentines meal there for a group of six and everyone walked away delighted with their meals. We had three hake meals, two gnocchi and one pork chop and some had starters. We’d heard a lot about The Fat Pig but had never been, which is strange as we love a proper independent pub. Booked in for a Saturday evening, made our way down the side street from the end of town, opened the bright yellow doors and pretty much stepped through the wardrobe into Narnia. From the contrast of the quiet and empty looking little side street, we were just hit by this kind of other worldly feeling of a cosy but completely bustling room full of people roaring with laughter and drinking beer and wine and gin around a proper fire. We were led down a couple of steps into the next room where our table was. Went to the bar to order drinks (love that there was a gluten free beer on tap) and then back to our table to look at the menu. Loads of gluten free options, the guy taking my order had no issues with making sure the pheasant dish I wanted was gluten free. My friends burger was one of the best she’d had and my dish was a good portion, great value and tasted great. We just feel stupid now that we haven’t come here sooner!

Mix of groups here some might be visitors like us most local. That was a good sign and we duly ordered couple with some west country ciders norcott fruit cider new to us and a Cornish haze. Starters were homemade soup and halloumi fries. Excellent and well presented. Mains were vegetable pie with mash and the other sausage and mash. Comforting and quite substantial meals. Having visited a number of years ago I was really looking forward to some of the delicious pork dishes - that sadly no longer exist here. The food selection is much smaller and much less interesting then before. What remains is uninteresting and over priced for what it is.For the same money they charge for their food there are much better and far more interesting places to eat in Exeter. The staff were good and the service was fine but The Fat Pig has completely lost its old identity. It is now not much more than an overpriced "hipster" option in a sea of much more interesting offerings.

We visited our daughter at the university and took her and her housemates out for Sunday Lunch. We were a large group ( including our dog) and we were made so welcome. Most of us opted for the excellent roast beef and all the trimmings and the vegetarian with us very much enjoyed her choice. Puddings included sticky toffee pudding, cheese and chocolate parfait and peace broke out across the table as we savoured every mouthful! This is a very dog friendly pub and we fell in love with the enormous, gentle pub dog who came to check on us from time to time. This is a brilliant, friendly pub with delicious food and a great choice of ales and ciders. It deserves to do well and we will return.

We went to The Fat Pig as it had top reviews as a place to eat in Exeter. Thinking it may be fully booked, we arrived and 5pm, when it opened and ordered drinks. The interior is warm and contemporary and all the tables filled quickly. It is also ideally situated for dinner before events at the Corn Exchange. The menu was straight forward and my friends ordered pork burgers and I had duck breast with red cabbage, red wine sauce and potato. The portions were generous and exceeded my expectation by far. Often menus exaggerate but this said what was coming in clear plain English. Two duck breasts came (free range from Devon) and red cabbage and a block of a potato dish and a gravy like sauce. Tasty, satisfying and nutritious, there was no room for pudding. They also had Sandford Cider, ales, lagers and a Rioja red wine, as this is a Freehouse not part of a brewery. I'll definitely go there when next in Exeter. The staff all worked extremely hard with one person front of house, who ensured we got served drinks, cutlery and food as quickly as possible alongside the other punters. .

Went for Sunday lunch with my brother and sister in law and my two teenage boys, we had very nice table in a sort of alcove area which was good for me as I have a hearing impairment and it is an animated atmosphere [in a good way but slightly difficult if you can't hear very well!].The service was SUPER friendly and our Sunday lunches turned up up very quickly after ordering. Dietary requirements [no carbs] were obligingly met and everyone enjoyed their meal. I had the roast chicken and particularly liked the veg that came with it, especially the kale as I don't have this at home. The puddings and cheese board also went down very well. I had the chocolate parfait - aka chocolate mousse with pistachio chantilly cream and a slab of honeycomb.Best of all dogs [because I love taking my dogs everywhere with me!] are welcomed with open arms and the pub dog is a gentle star.Access-wise there's one small step into the main entrance [where the bar is] but the toilets are more of a challenge if you have a mobility impairment [as I do] as they are up a rather steep flight of stairs with a rope handrail. The toilet situation is a bummer as otherwise I'd be making this my go-to local!

Buscamos en Google “Hipster Pubs & Craft beer in Exeter & The Fat Pig apareció. Nos arriesgamos y llamamos para conseguir una mesa. Estuvimos encantados de que pudieran acomodar a 2 humanos empapados y su perro con poca antelación (1 hora). En el pub en sí: el personal era fabuloso, la cerveza local era excelente y el menú de comida, aunque pequeño debido a COVID, era increíble. Ninguno de nosotros somos vegetarianos, sin embargo, elegimos el principal de ñoquis, que era increíble y sin duda volveremos si volvemos al oeste, ¡un lugar encantador! The staff are friendly and very helpful , the city pub atmosphere is contemporary yet comfy and the food choice is simple but enough with big meaty dishes and at least a veggie alternative . Usually rich and unctuous I've not been disappointed .Good choice of own brewed and other beer , gins and whiskies

Great beers, really friendly staff and a warm doggie welcome with bar treats awaits customers in this city centre pub. Although hidden away down a side street, this place always seems to have customers and is well worth searching out for a local beer and a bar snack. Definitely recommended if you like real ale and ciders in a friendly environment.

Dog & human friendly! If you don't like dogs around food, this is not the place for you, however, I don't mind. Food delicious, atmosphere good.

Stopped off in here for a light supper and a great selection of real ales. All the staff were professional, attentive and obviously enjoying their work. We had a couple of the starters and puds, all very tasty and well priced. Will be sure to revisit and also try the mains, which all looked nice and a varied menu. Great atmosphere, well attended by locals as well as others. Many thanks to all for our enjoyable visit.

Came here recently for some food . I had a mushroom lasagne. The lasagne itself was mediocre but I was shocked to see it accompanied by horrible garlic mayo ( the sort you’d find in a kebab shop), bought in chips and frozen peas. I paid £16.50 for this meal which is extortionate for what it was. Service wasn’t amazing either. I just need recognition that would I ate was not ok . I don’t wish to upset anyone but I know it’s not that hard to make aioli and homemade chips. I didn’t hate the food I just wasn’t happy with the price. It needed more finesse. If you make the effort then you can charge that much

The welcome and service was impeccable, great banter. The beer is sublime and the gins are superb. But better than all of this is the food, every mouthful absolutely stunning. Bravi.

Absolutely outrageously good food! The atmosphere is super relaxed and welcoming, the staff are friendly and always up for a good chat ☺️ The selection of gin (that they distill themselves!) is by far my new favourite. 10/10 💛💛

We came for a mid week dinner during grad week. Despite the name, The Fat Pig has several vegetarian and vegan options. The scallops and caponata starter was perfectly cooked and the caponata delicious, really vibrant flavours. The Spanish-style croquetas were “just ok”, nothing special. The lamb couscous was very tasty, so too the pulled pork sandwich with Chili Mayo. The highlight

Just dropped into this pub yesterday after shopping in Exeter as it looked friendly. We wish we hadn't bothered now! Guess how much for one and a half pints of beer shandy? £8.80! What?? :(

First time visit with friends. Limited menu, no beef option for a roast! Had the lamb, less fat on a beached whale, cold potatoes and undercooked potatoes. Some poor excuse for gravy. Could have complained but why should I, should have got it right the first time. Honestly go to Toby carvery instead. Half the price, twice the food. Lovely staff is the only reason for 2 stars

Try the home brew beer :dark and amber. Dark one is tasteful. Amber is good to complement roast lamb pie which is excellent.

When I turned-up for a bite to eat on Sunday lunchtime with my 2 newborn children the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making sure we had all we needed and space for the pram. The food we had was exceptionally good (vegi and pork roast and a cheese board). The atmosphere in the pub was friendly and the prices very reasonable.

Having not been since the refurb we were looking forward to our lunch. We were made very welcome when we arrived, they even found some colouring pens and paper for our kids. The roasts were great, it’s unusual to find a roast lamb where the lamb is cooked properly! I made a mistake in ordering, but they were more than happy to sort out my mistake for me. Will certainly be returning soon!
