Simply one of the best pubs in Sheffield for beer drinking without noisy juke boxes etc. Great beer. Great history

Great local "boozer" in a lovely victorian building, with many original features in a historic area of the city. VERY popular, cozy, great atmosphere, and no overbearing music. Lovely small beer garden. Dog friendly. Hannah and Leanne and their team are very friendly. This nationally recognised pub has received many awards over the years, carrying many independently brewed beers and ciders from local and more distant independent brewers. Excellent choice of good quality home made food, - especially pies, all prepared by 2 guys who make up 2 Father's Catering. They provide a good range of 'pub grub' mains and deserts, with a choice of well presented sandwiches. Definately well worth a visit, - you might get hooked on the place!

Three of us went to Parkwood springs to burn off some energy and stopped here for a refreshing pint or two. We rode home with the giggles.

Had a really nice night but then got kicked out unexpectedly, aggressively without warning and then accused of ignoring them, it was bizarre we’d not heard anything since the bell but then accused of staying too late?? Bouncer was aggressive out of nowhere it was so weird there were multiple groups they were aggressive with, I would recommend leaving well before closing time as they seem to have an issue with people finishing their drinks?? Very weird experience. If they just told us they wanted to closed we would leave but there was no warning and then just agressive

Food and atmosphere is really comfy

We came here on Saturday afternoon to meet with my daughter, her baby, and friends... we hadn't been here since we were students in the very early '80s and so I was very curious to see if it was how i remembered it. It did not disappoint! In many ways it seemed unchanged, which is something of a triumph in this world of tarting up old pubs and doing the unpleasant corporate gentrification job on them... here were still the tight corners and cramped intimate bar with its huge array of real ales on tap - many more than on offer in 1983 when CAMRA really had a job on its hands. How things have improved since those flat-capped days where a good pint was a rarity and pubs were smoke-filled sticky-floored male dominated hangouts!! We remember vividly going up that twisty wooden staircase to the non-smoking room at the top, where the folk music played; as there was no baby changing facilities here for my little grandson, I was pleased to be directed up to this empty top room by a kindly member of staff and there all those lovely memories flooded back as I knelt in front of the fireplace!! The outside space is brilliant - authentic, spacious, and just lovely to sit in, surrounded by the buzz of conversation. The light rain didn't hurt as there are covered verandas around the edge. Just the sort of place to read the weekend papers! The pub from the outside is as original as makes no difference, and sits now sorrounded by on-going rejuvination... some workmen were busy laying paving just along the way, and many instrustrial style flats are being built in the area. In summary, I thought it completely fabulous and we will definitely seek it out when next we are in the area. 5 stars very well deserved!

Food twice the price it used to be pub nearly empty now beef gristly beer is OK though £15.25 for dinner won't be eating there again . Apparently they have a new chef and kitchen.

An enjoyable couple of beers yesterday. Didn’t do food.

Visited this pub today , beer fine servis started good , then we were told to move away from the bar . The place was far from buisy, so we found this to be very aggressive . We settled for a spot outside on the road , but downed our drinks and left . The staff these landlords / managers employ do need to be taught some social skills , they probably don't realise, we pay their wadges, and probably don't care .....

Reliably first rate beer and service !

We didnt have food, but drinks are good the DJ when we were there was brilliant, with lots of 80s music played. Great atmosphere and the beer garden was great.

Original old style pub in what was part of Sheffield's heavy steel industry. Small rooms, tap room, snug types. Plenty of seating outside in a courtyard planted with flowers. Very good selection of beers 🍻

Nice traditional pub in Kelham with an excellent range of (mostly local) keg beers and a selection of pork pies and sausage rolls for food. However, as it was a warm day, my wife had an Italian lager and I opted for a very refreshing Schneider Weiße beer. Hope to return soon.

Lovely beer garden with plenty of seating.

A lot of beers. Good place and good atmosphere. In summer, it explodes. The bad thing is that at 11:00 p.m. they already kicked us out. But it was worth every second there.

Just popped in for a quick drink. Very traditional feel in the compact bar, with its dark wood-framed floor to ceiling surround, probably been here as a building serving menfolk who spilled out of the industrial works in this area in the preceding century or so. Now an independent (read as Kelham Island Brewery) with a variety of distinctive ales, and Budvar on tap, which isn't very common now. Enjoyably characterful.

Cracking pub with a great range of ales on pump. Staff very friendly, a couple.of cosy indoor rooms and a big outdoor garden. Highly recommended.

The fat cat has been around for a while and is well know to locals. We went in for a mooch and a beer. Good selection of ales, but the overall feel was grubby, uncared for and not looked after as a venue. Filthy carpets and knackered old furniture. People seem to want to look past this but for me there are plenty of better venues around the corner in any direction. Owners are hanging onto the fame of the Fat Cat name but really it needs someone who wants to bring up the standard as a landlord.

Normally it was not possible to have lunch that day, but they still managed to serve us a meal which was very good. Good choice of beers (and good atmosphere)

Made my first visit to this pub in February 2024 after hearing so much about it for many years. One of the main recommendations was based on the choice of beers but, being coeliac, I wasn't sure if it would be suitable. However, I was very pleased when I was offered a list of gluten free beers to choose from - albeit in bottles and not on draught (but maybe one day?). As they had a number of Wold Top beers, I decided to try the Marmalade Porter, which was nice and refreshing even on a damp and overcast day. Didn't have any food while we were there but having heard about the gluten free options since, I would like to try it on another visit. It's a lovely old-fashioned pub with friendly staff and a place that was worthy of its recommendation so I would like to pass on the recommendation.

Old Fashioned pub with plenty of choice of beers and ciders on draft and in bottles.

Very small with a selection of real ales. The bar staff were helpful but most of the ales were too strong for my liking as I prefer to keep it session. The best beers were from out of town and I was hoping for something more local. Worth a visit particularly if you like the 5% and over beers.

So hungry...but food inedible...cheese and onion pie is a slice of cheese half melted between 2 dried out pieces of manky stale pastry. No cooking skills at all! Do not eat here! I didn't.

A lovely chilled pub in the heart of Kelham Island.

This place is a good choice for people who prefer to sit outside because they have a cute garden with covered benches and tables. During weekends there is also a bar open outside.

Went to the place up the road but walked out again and into the fat cat. Traditional down to the stained glass. Bar maids with attitude(good).green brick and porcelain toilets. Selection of beers as vast as the bar is small. The people in the bar friendly with conversations interesting. And tinder dates curious. We ate and had three pies for the start of one main course in the other place hearty food no need to ask for extra gravy. Definitely coming again for a proper session

Went in the other day after a lovely walk round Sheffield, a lovely girl who i didn’t get the pleasure to learn her name gave me the best customer service skills I’ve ever seen. Very polite and speedy but didn’t feel rushed. Will definitely be returning. I could only describe her as 5 ft 3 blonde

I've been visiting the Fat Cat since 2008 when I was at University in Sheffield and I've never had a bad experience. The staff have always been welcoming and friendly over the years as well as the customers. The beer range has always been top notch and the food is good and honest home cooked and great value.
