Booking easy to make / good communication. Greeted on arrival- staff very friendly Our table was very compact with the other tables in front and behind - literally was a squeeze to move. Could do with one less table either side. We had adult carvery £9.95 , choice of 4 meats and plenty vegetables to choose from. No queue at carvery. Turnip just a little lumpy, mash didn’t have much taste , the roasts were wonderful. Food was all hot except yorkshires which is same with everywhere now. Overall a fair Sunday lunch and decent value. Deserts - £4.95 we got jam sponge and Sticky toffee sponge with custard. Plenty choice available. Both went down well.

A short minor road branches off the A689. You can park at the side of this short road with the Farrers Arms in front of you. Cars also park on the large grass triangle between the short road and the A689. Two of us booked a table for Sunday lunch. We were shown to our table. My friend went to the bar to order drinks and a small Sunday lunch. When he returned we asked for a small plate. The plate was given to each of us with our choice of roast, gammon, turkey or beef. We then helped ourselves to whatever vegetables we wanted from a very wide range. A thick brown, tasty gravy was available and you could ask for a gravy jug if you wanted extra gravy. There were several minor things different to other restaurants we had visited. There was no cutlery or knapkins on the table. You had to go to a small table to collect your cutlery and knapkins. The staff were very helpful and pleased to help if necessary. They also asked if you needed anything or any help. Before our visit I tried to search for the menu but I had no success. Apparently the menu is on their facebook. On my return home I searched for the menu on facebook but had no success. The cost of the food is very competitive so we will, no doubt, return mid week sometime.

Welcome back cosy local! You can't help but notice if you live local to Crook the popularity of 'The Farrer's' since it re-opened. Many an evening people flood to the welcoming atmosphere and deep sinking carpets of a lovely local pub with amazing staff, service and 'how do they do it that cheap?' value food. We've been in a couple of times recently for meals and the food has been great every time. On a recent date night we enjoyed Prawn Cocktail and Mozzarella Sticks and it was delicious, the starter portions were large. For mains we've enjoyed Chicken Parmo (big), Smothered Chicken (Delish) and Bangers and Mash, each meal has been wonderful. Chunky chips and salad on the side. We think the portions are big and we were pretty stuffed after a two course meal. On two occasions we've arrived around 7pm on a week-day evening and there's been a steady flow of customers, not too packed and quiet, comfortable atmosphere. We tried the Sunday Carvery just after re-opening and Sunday lunch was nice, it was quite busy, remember to buy a Carvery Meal ticket before queuing as this is a mistake we made.

Tried The Farrers Bar and Restaurant in Crook tonight. It’s just been taken over by new management. We ordered a 10oz sirloin steak with Diane sauce. It came with homemade chips, onion rings and salad. Also Cajun spiced sliced steak with king prawns which came with rice, garlic bread and homemade chips. A pint of lager, a pint of cider, coke and a white wine. Total £50. Worth every penny. Portions were huge, service was excellent and everything was fresh and delicious. There’s also a beer garden with a bouncy castle for the kids.

We heard this pub had been taken over by Aaron and his partner, so we knew it would be good. Had Sunday lunch carvery. It was excellent. A choice of meat and help yourself to a selection of about six different veg, plus homemade yorkshire pud and gallons of lovely gravy. All the food was hot and fresh. Would highly recommend as it was great value.

Visited here for a family meal during the week. Wasn’t very busy. The young waitresses do need some training in customer service, taking out plates away before others had finished and saying “have you done” isn’t really good service. Three times we were asked if we were ready to order by all different staff in 5 minutes. Food was OK but nothing special.

Called for Friday tea at 5.30. Myself and my wife had steak pie peas gravy and homemade chips. The pie was below average, probably bought in frozen, although the waitress said chips were homemade I'd say Mcain frozen oven chips and frozen peas. To me nothing was homemade. There's better food half mile up the road.

My family and I visited the farrers for tea last night we where greeted by friendly staff although they where very busy they still made the time to make us feel welcomed we where served at the bar very quickly and they where happy to wait for us while the 3 children chose there drinks, once being served we where appointed a very friendly waitress called Abi who showed us to are table for 6 we where then given the menus which contained a very wide selection of food at good prices we where then given the appropriate time to choose our food the children where happy with there choices of chicken nuggets and pizza, and the three adults went for the selection of a chicken in Stilton sauce which was highly recommended, along with the fish pie and scampi we had no complaints over the food it was all delicious. Once everyone finished Abi cleared our table and then gave us the opportunity for desserts, the three children and the designated adult where outside on the bouncy castle working off the full meals they had just eaten, so my friend and I thought we would take this opportunity to have a sneaky dessert with out them, there was a very wide selection of desserts and affordable prices but we both went for the chocolate fudge cake which was fantastic one with pouring cream and the other with ice cream and came in great portions once finished with dessert we then left the inside of the pub to join the others outside in the garden which is kept very tidy, then on leaving we where then thanked for coming by our lovely waitress Abi. It was very busy on our arrival but that was not and issues at all we had no problems with getting a large table for 6 and the food came out in great timing, we will defiantly be coming back lovely staff great service and amazing food.

Took my friend out for dinner to cheer her up after upsetting news, I suggested this pub as she had never been. Our waitress was lovely, very polite and attentive, we ordered a sizzler each and requested if we could pay for wraps to accompany, the waitress didn't think this would be a problem. Several minutes later the waitress retuned to tell us this was not possible, I reiterated I was happy to pay..... The waitress appeared embarrassed to repeat they wouldn't grant our request. Strange way to treat customers but to be fair the plates arrived piled with food, there was too much quantity and not enough quality. The food was nice, prompt and tasty. I probably wouldn't return, there are so many pubs with equally nice food but better attitude towards customers.

One of our favourite places for Sunday lunches. Decent price with tons of food. Only bad thing is inconsistency with adults being able to order small instead of large meals. The small size is more than enough for most adults, you really do get loads and sometimes they let me order small, other times they say it's kids only, there's been several times where one waitress has told me no but then man at next table gets told yes. Have offered to pay large price for a small plate as so much food is wasted and I feel really bad leaving so much. Husband can out his food away, he's a big stocky bloke and he really struggles to finish regular size he usually polishes my left overs too but this is the only place he can't. Daughter always gets regular so it's not like we're trying to be cheap there's always two large and one small they just dont always allow child to order large and myself a small so we faff about swapping plates. I've noticed many people take tubs to put leftover food in and scraping plates when staff not looking. Mid week meals are all nice too but not overloaded like Sunday lunch. Lovely beer garden and an overall nice little boozer.

Had a Sunday lunch booked but 1 person in our group was poorly so i called to ask if we could call in with our own plates to take the food out rather than just not go, was told we could and to come at time table was booked, when we arrived no one knew about this and the female manager was quite rude and even though i said we could leave it, was told on 3 occasions it was fine, we were asked to bring containers for gravy and sauce, when i got home with the meals found no mint sauce although we had 3 lamb dinners and specifically asked for mint sauce we got none. When we called about this we were told they didn't have enough as the needed it for customers who were sat in the restaurant and paying for the privelage, we paid the same price as them, and when we asked what the difference was we were told, that's what you get when you get takeaway, and not to bother coming back, not a good way to do business really, we were regular customers as well, needless to say we will never go back, and if you like being treated like a nuisance even though you are paying for a service go to the careers, food is really lovely just a shame about the ignorant woman we dealt with, she should be in the in hospitality trade with her customer service skilks

She told us not to bother going back and made out like we were less important than customers eating at the pub because we took our meal home (which was agreed by them prior to us collecting it) There's absolutely no excuse for speaking too and treating paying customers that way. She was so awful she actually left me visibly upset. Apart from her the food is actually nice. We have been many times and even went for Christmas dinner. We will never go there again. That's fair enough, however the quite frankly bored looking waitress we were confronted by didn't appear interested in us. We ordered a couple of drinks at the bar instead and received a similarly poor attitude from the barman who looked like he'd lost a tenner and found a fiver. Went for a family Sunday lunch and really disappointed by the quality. I appreciate the most visitors are impressed and that was the reason we went. It's a nice pub and the staff were very and delivered our meals very quickly. I ordered pok and the rest of our party beef. The meat was machine carved and so tough it was barely edible. The Yorkshire puddings appeared to be prepackaged frozen and were tasteless. I think the owners need to look what clients leave on their plates. Most seemed to leave the meat and Yorkshire which are key to a satisfying Sunday lunch. Gravy was nice. We won't be returning as whilst it's is good value, the food is of poor quality.

For good honest well prepared food that is served in a clean and friendly pub you cannot beat the Farrers. Dave & Kath always make you welcome and the "locals" are friendly too.

One of my locals... I love visiting the Farrers. Very good for meals... Food is always exceptional and well priced. Very good portion sizes too... you would not leave this place hungry. Weekends tend to get rather busy however so you are best off calling to book a table if you are wanting a weekend meal.Overall a well ran establishment serving good drinks and fantastic meals

Me and my family have visited the farrers a few times for family meals and we never come away disappointed. The value for money is excellent and they do really big portions for the prices you pay, we've never had a bad meal. The waitresses are really friendly and attentive and you can tell they are comfortable in their roles. The pub has never been super busy when we have visited (its usually mid week) but the service time has been excellent, meals are with you in about 10-15mins - if that! I'd really recommend!

We visited for a big family get together as a party of 26, All of the meals were dished up virtually together all very hot and all very good portions, nearly all were a different dish. We could not fault a single thing, from quality, quantity or very friendly service. So much so 4 of us went back the next night for another meal and it was just as good and the service was exceptional, cannot wait to visit the next time we visit the North.

Since this was our first visit we had no idea of expectation, but the whole experience was a delight. Beautiful modern decor to a high standard. The staff were very welcoming in both the bar & restaurant area. A varied menu to choose from, including specials, and substantial servings. Although I was unable to finish my main course I decided to have a dessert and chose from a blackboard menu of approximately 9 or 10 choices - scrumptious! I wholeheartedly recommend this venue.

They say you are never too old to learn- and what I learned on Monday is never eat in a pub before 7pm otherwise your meal will be ruined by noisy children. The Farrers is well known locally for good value food and the menu caters for all budgets with a selection of two meals for £12,a choice of chicken meat and fish dishes from £7-10 and steaks and mixed grill at £16-19. (prices approximate) The vegetable side dishes are generous and fresh, and the service friendly and efficient. The Farrers is family friendly and high chairs are provided for younger children. The dining room has large windows giving plenty of light, and is nicely decorated and the chairs are large and comfortable. If like us you prefer a quiet meal in an atmosphere conducive to conversation - go later in the evening when the noisy little darlings have gone home.

A very nice sunday lunch. The staff are very welcoming and catering. The waiting time from arriving till you get your meal delivered to the table is minimal. And to top it all off; the lunches are massive and delicious.

We had a new years meal here, it was horrific but other people had ordered off the ordinary menu which looked quite tasty. I've eaten here on other occasions and it's been ok. Service is good, nice beer garden to sit when the sunshines. Would definitely not do new years meal again, would I eat here again? Probably.

Went on a Sunday. Thought the bar staff was very rude. Didn't take the time to listen to my partner when ordering. Won't be going again. The waitresses were very nice though.

A very friendly service provided by the staff. A very warming welcome. And to top it off an enormous sunday lunch which was delicious. The only thing that let it down was the weather

Just had meal for four of us at The Farrer's Arms. Service was excellent and our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Food is good value and tasty but there did seem to be a bit of an obsession with mozzarella cheese. I would have made Hunters Chicken with good old fashioned cheddar. Having said that the steak and scampi dishes went down well and I would certainly recommend for a value pub meal.

Was told about this place by one of its regulars. He told me the food was "great home cooked food".... and he was bang on!Welcomed by Dave on the bar, probably doesn't remember me from his Postchaise days but he was still the ever smiling Dave and nothing was too much bother. Very relaxed approach about things, I like that.I for some strange reason fired off with a double liquorice sambuca, and a pint of kronenburg plus a pint of coke for the Mrs.We went into the restaurant and chose the potato skins to share before ordering the 5oz Rump with all the trimmings and corned beef pie, chips,3 veg and lashings of gravy. I must say firstly that I ordered my steak blue and I think it scared the living daylights out of both the waitress and the chef.....but it was perfect, just like the home made pepper sauce. Both me and the wife agree that this was one of the best, if not the best, meal we have had in a pub, and it was 2 for twelve quid.....can't fall off! This is NOT fine dining folks, this is good old fashioned hearty 'just like momma used to make' food.Another pint of each and no space for desert sadly.Total bill was just over Thirty quid.......Excellent food, service, atmosphere, value for moneyWe almost went back the following night but decided to keep this place as a one of our treats rather than our new regular, but we will be back soon! Keep up the good work.

We eat at the Farrers at least once a week, the food is always great. From the standard menu, 2 for £11 menu and the specials board there is always something to fancy. Nothing will disappoint! The staff are always friendly and welcoming. The decor is lovely and open in the dining room with a good size bar to relax in before and/or after your meal. It's definitely worth a visit, you'll leave happy and stuffed.

i was taken for a meal today for my birthday..the staff were lovely and friendly and very helpful..however my potato tasted like it had a whole salt cellar poured in it and my roast potatoes were rock hard..my companions were fine so dont know what happened but when i said something was wrong with it i was told that.."well nobody else has complained..and what do you want me to do about it"!!!...it was taken away and i was brought a new plate of food..i apologiswd again as i dont normally complainm but felt bad for my family who were paying for it as a birthday gift, and she had the cheek to say again that nobody else had complained..insinuating i was a liar..at which point my son told her there was no need for the attitude she was giving......i wont be going there again due to this..and i didnt touch my meal either..no problems with the other staff..just her...no need seriously !!!

We’re not vegans, merely vegetarians! However it was a lovely surprise to stumble across this stall whilst on a walk around Durham. Whilst not hungry at the time, we bought some pastries and a scotch egg for later, purely because it was nice to see a trader specialising in meat free (or in this case vegan) products and not someone making a token effort. All of of our food tasted awesome and we’ll definitely make a point of visiting here to try something else the next time we are in Durham.

We had the 6 course tasting menu plus supplementary course - it was an absolute delight. The snacks to start with were gorgeous- especially the focaccia, the turkey stuffing was delicious, the smoked salmon was outstanding, the halibut was my absolute favourite especially the sauce, the porchetta was gorgeous and the desserts were unusual but yummy. The textures and tastes work together to produce a very special dining experience.
