Have been visiting bi-annually for last 3 or 4 years. October 2024 visit very disappointing. Menu has been shortened and made very generic. Decor is tired. Staff are still pleasant but the buzzy ambience and perception of leading the trends are gone.

Went for brunch as a party of three at noon on a Sunday - they are walk in only for a party of this size. We were given a high top table for 3 and were not told that the table was time limited at all. Food was delicious and service was fast and attentive, but the disappointment was when barely 60 minutes into the meal a staff member who had not served us came over and told us that we had 5 minutes left on the table. This was baffling because (1) we hadn't been told upon seating that there was a limit and (2) my friend had not remotely finished eating her food. There was only one party of two queueing at the door and there were seats at the counter so I really don't understand the rush in getting us out. This restaurant doesn't even take bookings for small parties, but even so the standard allotted time in London for a table is 90 minutes. I politely expressed my disappointment to the server and he gave a very unconvincing apology with no offering to make up for it (if their hands were tied with the table a couple of free takeaway coffees or a few quid off our bill might have been a nice gesture...) The food and drinks were delicious so it's a shame to say I wouldn't return given the poor attitude towards customers.

I think the food is nice but was incredibly disappointed to be turned away at 4pm when they close at 5pm because the restaurant was quiet. The chef decided to close the kitchen. In which case they should have closed to door so there wouldn’t be any walk ins. But as I had previously checked the closing time, to make sure we could grab a quick bite it was very disappointing. My family was in town visiting and this was a must do after a very active morning/afternoon - that we specifically wanted to dine with them and trying our best to get there before closing - at least before 4.15/4.30 as that would be reasonable for a turn down service. But a whole Hour before closing and refusing service is crazy to me. I get that Sundays are slow, but I feel that it was inconsiderate to us, for us choosing to go and eat there. If we came any time after 4.30 fine. We didn’t even get offered a drink. Just had to leave. Maybe we didn’t look the part. I’ll never know, but maybe if we looked a very way they would’ve seated us. Even though we usually spend well. I guess we didn’t look worth it! No one asked the chef if he would mind… just left feeling let down. No one should go after 3pm or close to 4pm.

Was I given the worst seat because I looked like I couldn’t afford to be there? Wanting to have lunch by myself, I patiently waited in a long queue for a table, as they approached me they refuse to give me a table and instead made me wait more for a high top chair at the bar, where I was expected to eat my food from? Giving instead the next available small table to the white, clearly middle class, post-jog couple who were behind me on the queue. I had to unfortunately continue waiting until the bar top was available for me to be seated. Something about being the darkest person in the establishment, other than the waiters, and sitting in the worst table- felt wrong to me. As great as the food is, it’s not worth it when you’re made to feel like you don’t ‘belong’ there.

We went for brunch as a party of 9 to the Battersea venue. The food and cocktails were fabulous! Everybody in the party commented on how tasty the food was and how much they enjoyed it. Our waitress was super helpful, ensuring any specific dietary requirements were met and checking on us regularly to see if we needed anything - this was in spite of the restaurant being very busy at the time. A great place for brunch - great menu and tasty food and a friendly and helpful team. We look forward to having brunch there again in the not too distant future. Thank you.

I booked a table at the Barnes branch for a Saturday brunch mid Feb. Upon arriving, the restaurant was closed with no sign in the window to suggest why. I called and was put through to an automated answerphone. I have emailed but have heard nothing back. I had booked the table for a celebration and it was massively disappointing that we had travelled to get there and had received no warning that the restaurant would be closed, despite having a booking.

TLDR: Great food. Nice enough staff but allow queue jumping and otherwise ignore the people in the queue. We were recommended Farmer's Mistress for the food. I have to agree the food is fantastic. Presentation of food is great, selection of food is interesting and unique, and food came out to the table quickly. However, we had issues with the experience overall. We were aware that Farmer's Mistress is a very popular spot which often has queues out the door on the weekend. We expected that we would have to wait for our table. However, we were quite surprised at how staff managed those waiting in the queue, when customers are often waiting over an hour to be seated. Firstly, staff don't register how many people are in the queue or the numbers in their parties. They also give no indication for how long the wait may be. In fact, they seem to mostly avoid eye contact with anyone queuing! When we arrived we were third in the queue. After we had been waiting 15 minutes or so, a single lady joined the queue behind us. She asked us and a couple in front of us if she could go forward to ask how long she might be waiting for her table. She spoke to a member of staff, and then somehow ended up seated at the bar which has 2 seats only. We thought perhaps she asked if she could sit at the bar whilst awaiting her table. This in itself is odd, as if this is something they offer, then they should have offered that to those first in the queue. Soon after she had been served a coffee at the bar and later served an entire meal! She finished her meal and left before we were even served our meal. It seemed that through her brazen cheekiness she jumped 2 places in the queue (which was a 45 minute wait), and staff facilitated this. Farmer's mistress also has a minimum booking of 4 people. If less than 4 you cannot book and must wait in the queue. Another party of 3 turned up after us saying they had a booking. The staff asked if this was a booking for 4, and they said yes but only 3 of them could make it. The Farmer's Mistress staff didn't seem to mind this and seated them anyway. I feel in principle if you have a rule for minimum booking for 4 then you should stick to this. If a party then turns up with only 3, they should then also be made to wait in the queue. To us it felt they made a booking for 4 intending to only come as a 3 and jump the queue. Also noted to us, two parties in the queue behind us had bookings. We could see the empty tables in the restaurant ready for them. However, due to the lack of attention from staff towards anyone queuing, they were unable to inform staff of their booking. The tables remained empty for over 10 minutes for both booked parties, who also were queuing for those 10 minutes. In a small restaurant with such a long waiting time I feel staff should be more aware and quick to seat bookings to help the turnover of people. Overall, I do standby that the food here is fantastic and staff are friendly. However, at busy restaurants where you expect to queue, queuing is still part of your overall experience. Farmer's mistress should be more aware of this, and not ignore those queuing as they seemed to. And especially, they shouldn't facilitate people queue jumping!

Foods are sooooo delicious! Mushroom Florentine and Chicken Waffle are both really good! Mushrooms are very tasty with a variety of different types. Waffle is not too sweet and chicken was very well seasoned. The only downside is the service was a bit slow and the booking system only open to group more than 4. It was a very long queue on Saturday at early lunch time.

One of London best brunches! Cozy place inside; service was quick, good coffee; cool menu that is different from other places. We had the salmon avocado toast and waffle with chicken which was excellent, grilled chicken on the side and hallumi fries with yogurt and honey; everything was tasty and quantities were generous. Worth waiting for a table! Highly recommend it.

Since my first visit a year or two ago the decor in Battersea’s Farmer’s Mistress has been updated from rather sedate tables to bright yellow banquettes with high cocktail stools at high tables. Cocktails rather than beer appear to be de rigueur at a venue which appears to be catering for a youngish professional crowd. English was spoken all around me from the diners at the adjoining table to at least two of the waitresses with an American accent. A Portuguese speaking lady with a baby in a pram seemed to be related to one of the waitresses. The waitresses were dressed for the beach. The food ranges from brunch-ey eggy concoctions to more substantial dishes such as chicken katsu waffles, cornbread smash and a variety of burgers. We opted for a salmon butty with a brightly yoked egg and slices of hangar steak, eggs, broccoli and chips. All most impressive as well as stylish. Sharing an apricot loaf made for a slightly stodgy conclusion.

First visit and really liked this venue on Battersea Park Road, about ten minutes from Clapham Junction Station. Probably the best vegan breakfast I've had in a long while, a smart mixed venue for food and drinks in the heart of Battersea. Some prices quite expensive but it's tough after lockdown, so hope this business goes from strength to strength. It's a shame there're other comments about poor service, no excuse given it's quite small and few covers so I hope the owners will address concerns. Look after your customers and they'll look after you.

Proper butcher sausages or have a steak with egg or a a sausage and egg sandwich with a charcoal bun- the latest trend!. We went here for a weekend brunch (had booked a table for four). The space feels quite cramped with very little room on the tables or to move about, you’re confined in your chairs. We ordered drinks (half of which didn’t arrive until we asked a second or third time) and ultimately ordered food. No substitutes on any of the food item or any flexibility around the menu. If you want to swap something out you need to pay everything on top. When we asked why (cause my friend is intolerant to mushrooms) we were told “we just don’t do that here” and “that’s just our policy.” Fine, but not winning any bonus points on delivery. The food was nice, and everyone mostly enjoyed their order, definitely felt fresh. The only hiccup was that one person’s bacon arrived largely uncooked, so she asked to have it cooked a bit longer as it was entirely pink. When we got to the end of our meal and weee asked to pay we asked to have the bill split by item, and the server asked who wanted to pay for the water - we only had been given tap water, which is free everywhere in the UK. When we asked why we were being charged for something that needs to be legally freely available in this country they again said “that’s how it works here.” No other explanation, which wasn’t good enough, so we asked to have that charge removed. At this point we should have asked to have the service charged removed as well, because overall the service was disastrous and two of us never even got their coffee and juice, but we decided to just leave it. Pay and go. Before we left we decided to use the bathroom (of which they have one bathroom/one cubicle) for “mistress” and “farmer” so we had to go one after the other. In that time someone came over to our table to very rudely tell us to leave right away because “the other people have been waiting 10 minutes for their table.” At no point throughout the meal had we been told there was a time limit on the table, or that we had to vacate it at a certain point so we were taken aback by not just the sudden rush of having to get out but also the sheer rudeness of the staff there. Overall, despite the decent food, this was a pretty uncomfortable meal and disappointing experience, we wouldn’t go back. There is better brunch food and far superior service around.

Food tasty but overpriced. Service very poor. We booked a table in advance and still had to queue. At least 4 other smaller parties were seated before us without reservations. Once seated half an hour after reservation , we waited a further 40 minutes to receive our food. Chips: don’t bother, you get about 8 mediocre wedge chips for £4! They seemed shocked that I asked for the 12.5% discretionary surcharge to be removed and said they’d speak to the manager. (It’s optional!) I did not pay the surcharge purely based on poor service. And note to management: it’s highly rude and poor table etiquette to start clearing plates before all members of the party have finished their food. We have frequented many top end restaurants and cafes all over the world and this is certainly not one of them.

I came here with my sister and her partner on a Sunday around 3pm for a late brunch. Having just eaten quite a large savoury lunch I was craving something sweet and wasn’t disappointed by the options or food served. First impressions are the staff who understand the importance of smiling and making customers feel welcome upon arrival. The décor of this café has a nice balance of convivial, modern, Instagram friendly, date spot vibes. If you’re looking to go somewhere with a little more pzazz then this is the place to go. The seats were also super comfortable and place layouts smartly thought out. The Bloody Marys are great here if you don’t mind a slightly more adventurous flavour profile. The BM is served with what tasted like a herbal mix of basil and other flavours. Super fresh, flavoursome and a solid BM. I ordered the waffle with lemon meringue, crumble and raspberry sorbet which was delightful. I would definitely order this again although would share it and get myself one of the awesome looking/sounding savoury brunch dishes. The plates are served with a diligent touch and presentation is obviously important to the chef and restaurant. I tried a bit of the sausage which was packed full of flavour with a good girth and length most well experienced sausage connoisseurs would be pleased with. The service was attentive, super friendly and welcoming and quick. Although they were closing up not for a moment did they make us feel rushed. Prices aren’t too bad for London, and Farmer’s Mistress provides quality food and drinks for good value for the area. If you are more into greasy spoon/Wetherspoon vibes or prices, then this isn’t the place for you. I’d certainly return. Décor 9.5/10 Food 9/10 Drinks 8/10 Service 9/10 Value 9/10 OVERALL 9/10

Not sure what to make of this place yet….. Waited 30 minutes for food. Food arrived cold / warm despite eating that long. Confused with my chicken burger it was a coconut infused mess! Soggy. Wasn’t crispy as stated on the menu. Tasted nothing like chicken. The jalapeño were so thin and burnt I couldn’t taste it at all. Also the beef burger was surprisingly rare! Oozing red. Not for everyone. They didn’t ask how you want it. Really odd if I’m honest. It’s not cheap. £13 for a burger chips not included. Not value for money. But nicely done inside. Great seats!

One of my new favourite brunch spots! I booked a table in advance which was a very good idea as there was a queue out the door when we arrived. The place is gorgeous, very instagram friendly and buzzing. Service was extremely slow but friendly, so maybe somewhere to miss if you’re in a rush as we were there for just over 2 hours for brunch. The menu itself is insane, we were all spoilt for choice. We all ordered a savoury dish each, both of the sides and then shared a couple of sweet dishes. They were all amazing. The coffee was excellent as well, and the bill came to £26 each including service which seemed very reasonable. Advertisement of “half price cocktails” is a bit cheeky as it’s actually buy one cocktail and get a second of the same half price so we gave them a miss. We will be back soon to try more.

I have used this cafe for many years and since the proprietor Ali left it seems to have lost it’s way as on a number of occasions they are advertising dishes on their menu which they no longer prepare or have the ingredients for, therefor they need to update the menu to reflect what is currently available. I have also noticed that the sauce bottles they use have broken lids and could potentially be unhygienic.. A tweak here and there would benefit.

We've been here before, maybe a year ago and the experience was good, however on this occasion it was poor. We selected what we wanted from the website menu however when we arrived it was apparent that the website menu was out of date; some of our selections were not on the table menu. Two of our party selected Sausages and mash but there were no sausages so had to select something else. Three of us ordered fish & chips but bizarrely there was no vinegar available. It's the first establishment I've ever been to where you couldn't get vinegar with fish and chips. One of our party ordered a burger which was supposed to have two patties but was more like one and a half. He went to complain about it but nobody came back to us. When paying at the bar I mentioned the burger issue and the guy I was talking to went off to check with the server and he knocked this meal off the bill. I also pointed out that they had missed £60 worth of wine off the bill. He added it on to the bill but I didn't get any thanks for this. Wish I hadn't bothered now. I feel that the main issue however was the demeanour of the staff. Instead of "I'm awfully sorry we've ran out of vinegar" and maybe an explanation of why, it was "we haven't got any vinegar". It wasn't " I'm really sorry, we've had a run on the sausages and there aren't any left" or something like that, it was "we haven't got any sausages", It wasn't "we're really sorry the burger meal wasn't up to our usual standard" or something like that, it was "I've knocked it off the bill". It wasn't "oh, that's really good of you to let us know we'd missed the wine off the bill" or something like that. It was, well nothing really, it just got added to the bill. It was if having customers there was an inconvenience to the staff. There was minimal eye contact, no smiles and avoiding contact with customers as much as possible appeared evident. Wish we had gone somewhere else. We certainly won't be going again. I'm writing this in response to an email from the Nine Elms Tavern saying that my option matters. It will be interesting to see what, if any, response I get to this.
