Nada was absolutely fantastic. A reel asset to the pub. It was warm and friendly and the food was lovely. We had a jacket potato and the Caesar salad and starters of olives and breaded Camembert.

We have visited this venue many times. We have found the menu to be very comprehensive and enjoyed many of the various dishes on offer with no complaints, hot, delicious and competitively priced. The staff are wonderful, chatty, friendly, helpful & nothing is too much trouble. We have taken our sons, wives and grandchildren, they too have enjoyed the quality of the food with a great choice for the little ones. I highly recommend this venue for either a quick bite, when passing through or for a delicious Sunday roast.

We came here for a family dinner and left disappointed. No one was particularly pleased with their meal. I would describe it as weatherspoons quality. Just lots of little disappointing bits. A few examples below. -Focaccia was literally just bread. Not a hint of any flavour just plain white bread. - bread on prawn cocktail was stale. - fish was very greasy and overcooked. - Tartar Sauce was warm and clearly sitting under the heater for ages. - the "special" lamb kofta was tiny, you can go Sainsbury's and buy nicer ones. If you're a few beers in and want food it's fine, but otherwise don't go for a nice meal because it is mediocre and disappointing

Visited today for a Birthday Lunch at 3:30pm. 5 people, 4 adults one 10 year old. The food was awful , truly truly awful 3 Fish and Chips , 2 large 1 small. Where was the fish ? All batter …. Gammon egg and chips , where was the gammon ? Rolled over piece of ham cold and couldn’t be cooked as it was a very thin slice Desserts, what a joke. No vanilla ice cream to go with the Brownie, Carrot cake so hard couldn’t be cut with a spoon. Asked for this to be taken off the bill which it was. What has happened to this pub ? Used to be really good. £141 for what was appalling food .Tipped the staff, not their fault. Can’t understand why it was so bad . Was it because it was 15:30 and the proper chef was not on duty .Just don’t know , but if the chef responsible thought it was ok to deliver the food we had he or she should be ashamed .

We went to Farmers Boy on Monday 27th May. To say we were disappointed is an under statement, Starters we had prawn cocktails x3 and white bait. The prawn cocktail was on lettuce leaf, and about 1 desert spoon of prawn and sauce. We were told there was no ham available for ham egg and chips, and no cheese for Plougmans. After eating our starter, our main meal came up straight away, it would have been nice if we could have a bit of time in between meals, and food very basic.(we had scampi and chips ) We were never even asked if we wanted a sweet. Will never eat there again, and it wasn’t cheap

We have visited this pub in the past for a pint on walks through broxbourne woods but today stopped for lunch and were very pleased we did. The beer, Timothy Taylor Landlord, was spot on and the food very good too. I love good ham egg and chips but more often than not i’m disappointed but, oh no, not today. Nice thick ham, perfect eggs and very good chips. Bravo. Lovely to meet the new landlady Rachel and the friendly team and we will most definitely be back.

The pub is situated adjacent to the village green in the picturesque village of Brickendon. The Pub welcomes, dogs, children walkers and even cyclists ! Visited the pub, Saturday night myself, my wife, and two friends, we all live in the village and know the pub very well. The pub is now independent and being run by the previous manager Rachel , lovely lady from Ireland. The menu has been changed completely for the better. The freezers have disappeared from the kitchen as the Pub is now serving, proper home-cooked food to order. There isn’t five pages of menu, there is a modest selection. Most of the ingredients locally sourced. I had a very impressive wing of skate with capers, new potatoes and asparagus, all cooked to perfection, the asparagus was a little soft for my taste, this was mentioned, and I was told next time they would cook it exactly how I like it. This is a traditional country pub, well worth a drive out, friendly atmosphere. Plenty of parking, lovely beer garden out the front , and also out the back which is much better for children as you are away from the road.

Myself and my family came for Sunday lunch (mothers day) we’ve been before a couple years back and wanted to see if it was still the same. On arrival we were seated by lovely Nada and ordered our drinks which arrived pretty quick. The lady looked rushed off her feet if I say so myself. All other staff was standing around twiddling their thumbs and not doing much at all whilst the lady attended to pretty much everyone’s needs. The wait for our food was not bad and the roast itself was decent even though we were told it may take a little longer due to staff sickness, didn’t seem like a problem to us at all. Everything just looked disorganised, the younger staff honestly need to rethink their careers, they looked uninterested, not motivated at all, all gathered round chatting away. Around us we saw a lot of people complaining amongst eachother about the service and food and we also heard the pub is being taken over by a tenant but according to others it’s not been doing well at all since someone took it over in the recent year, we’ve heard some terrible things about the management and how poorly the pub has been maintained recently, due to all of this we will not be returning to this dull pub, honestly felt lifeless.

This was our first visit to the Farmer's Boy and unfortunately we won't be coming again unless we hear there's been a radical transformation. We arrived and it took the staff a long time to seat us. We then had to wait a long time for our drinks order so decided to order the food at the same time. We ordered starters and mains. The food arrived approx. an hour later and the starters were incorrect. We were told the starters we ordered were not available but this hadn't been communicated at the time to the waiter who served us. We decided to take the starters as they had been made in any case. The food was poor quality. We then had to wait a long time for the main meals and it was not good quality food. I later had a stomach ache from the food. We decided not to order desserts even though we'd come thinking we would order from the set menu. We asked the staff if we could just pay for the main meals and drinks (we did one round) given the situation and they said they would take off our drinks, which was appreciated. We were also offered a free glass of prosecco as an apology for the slow wait times but we declined. Overall we left feeling very disappointed and we just won't return because of the risk of having the same/a similar experience.

We visited the The Farmers Boy for the Mother's Day set menu as a family of 7. We'd heard that The Farmers Boy were renowned for their Roasts so was keen to visit and give it a try! When we arrived, we were made aware that there were a few staff sicknesses, so understandably they were under pressure, although the restaurant did not seem particularly busy, especially being Mothers day. Firstly, we ordered creamy mushroom bruschetta and what arrived was the smallest shrivelled up flat mushroom on brown toast, although was more like warm brown bread! The roasts then arrived (2 kids roast and 5 adult roasts). I'd questioned the size of the adult roast, which included 3 roast potatoes, this being exactly the same size as the kids roast!! There was no difference in size at all apart from the price! In addition, to the 3 roast potatoes which certainly weren't roasted, they were more like boiled potatoes, it included what looked like smash (mash), 2 overcooked pieces of tenderstem broccoli, 1 slice of mushy carrot and a frozen Yorkshire pudding. As a family, we have visited many local pubs for roasts and I'm afraid to say that this was by far the worst roast that we've ever had! The staff however, in particular Jamie was very pleasant and tried his best to rectify the issues, along with another lady who came over instead of the Manager we'd asked to speak too! We were told that the restaurant was undergoing management changes and they weren't allowed to make certain orders (hence the warm bread and not bruschetta) and stressed again their chef was off sick....so we weren't too sure who was manning the kitchen?! Our roasts therefore, and rightly so were removed from our bill. Needless to say, we did not stay for our 3rd course of desserts and instead went elsewhere on the way home. The experience we had was such a shame, as it looks a like such a lovely and inviting pub, which is massively let down by the food. We will not be visiting again or recommending to others.

Having eaten at the Farmers Boy a couple of times , We were very keen to bring our friends here but today was a disaster. When we first arrived we hovered around the bar but were virtually ignored by the 2 members of staff. At this point there was only one table occupied in the restaurant. We were eventually told that our table was as in the other part of the restaurant. No one showed us to the table , they just told us the number. The room was unlit and very dark and we had to ask for a light to be put on . We ordered our drinks , which took 15 mins to arrive . We ordered our food but then saw later tables served first . When we mentioned to staff they said when we order starters our food is automatically pushed back and later diners get served first???? The prawn cocktail starter was a waste of money with no thought going into presentation. We then waited a further hour and 15 mins our main course by which time several diners had walked out. Something had gone seriously wrong in the kitchen . No one’s food was coming out. When ours arrived our fish and chips was lukewarm and the Hunters chicken had definitely been reheated . We were offered complementary drinks but by this stage Our friends were so disappointed with the whole experience they they didn’t want dessert or coffee, so we went elsewhere for these. What should have been a relaxing lunch with friends , turned into a stressful experience. Sadly I don’t feel confident returning here . The staff seems miserable, apart from the lady who decided to start the leave blower up in the garden, whilst we were trying to have a conversation !!!!! What has happened to this lovely little pub?

There is currently a reduced menu as they are changing over from a chain to independent. Menu sounded great, and although limited, what they had available was good. We opted for sandwiches and the sharing platters. Firstly half the stuff on the platters weren’t available the main thing being the Camembert , which we were told about 30 minutes after ordering and the sandwiches, which ranged from £9-£12 arrived on kingsmeal like’ stale bread. The “garlic bread” was also made with the same type of bread! One mozzarella, tom and Avo sandwich, had half a slice of each thing in and the steak sandwiches, both came close to blue, although we asked for one WD and one MR. We sent them back as they were practically inedible but also had to ask for them to be taken off the bill. The price for what we got was absolutely extortionate and we actually felt upset to have to be paying for it it was that bad... We wouldn’t mind but you cannot charge that amount if you are using cheap slices of bread with next to no filling. We appreciate they were short staffed but being Mother’s Day weekend there should have been some preparation as the service was awfully slow and there didn’t seem to be any sort of urgency or care that everything was a bit of shambles. We were waiting for our drinks for close to 20 minutes and when we looked at the bar they were sat there waiting to be bought to the table but the barman was stood doing nothing so he could of bought them over himself. Although saying this there seemed to be one great waitress running around trying her best and the rest just pottering about without a care in the world. The tables around us were also left messy and unclean the whole 2 hours we were there. We left hungry and disappointed. To add, I think we were put in the “kids corner” which had tables full of screaming children, which we understand isn’t the pubs fault but we only had a tiny baby and it wasn’t ideal… as I said the waitress we had was great, attempting to be as accommodating as she could of been and was also very apologetic. Such a shame as have been here before and had a lovely experience. Just hope this isn’t a taster of the new way the lovely pub is going to be ran with the new independent ownership taking over. (Ps it doesn’t say this anywhere on the website so we actually had no idea about the reduced menu etc until we were sat the table, even then it wasn’t explained to us. Unfortunately I don’t think we will be returning.

I have eaten at the Farmers Boy (FM) scores of times and even taken groups of circa 20 people, but never again it was the worst food I have ever had, in fact all other local pubs and especially the Five Horseshoes at Little Berkhamsted leaves the Farmers Boy seriously a long way way behind, it seems other pubs know how to cook food and I would seriously suggest the management and 'Chef' at the FM visit the 5 Horseshoes as they will learn a lot about how food is cooked and served. Please now let me explain we arrived (myself and my wife) and ordered at circa 12.15 and at the time we were the only 2 guests in the restaurant/pub so there can be NO excuse due to the pub being busy. I had the hunter’s chicken with the chicken being placed on a COLD metal tray so was cold to eat with cold soggy chips, which were obviously from the day before and cold peas, for some strange reason the onion rings were fine. My wife had the gammon half of which could only be used to repair the sole of a shoe, yes it was that hard and dry and again accompanied by old cold soggy chips and cold peas. A lot, in fact most, of this meal was left. I should have complained at the time, but we were so disgusted we just wanted to get out. On leaving we heard other tables complaining about cold food etc and saw a lot of food waste. Luckily, very, we did not suffer any ill health after effects had we encountered such this would be be with Lawyers now. I did email the Farmers Boy and also Stonegate owners of the FM and chased them but have not received the curtesy of a reply. My advice would be to ensure food is hot and of good quality if not complain on the spot, sadly I did not do so.

Made a reservation for my family which was confirmed by email. Showed up and was bounced between the bar and restaurant staff both equally saying they were unable to see/sit us. Waited 10 minutes and was told they were fully booked and that the online reservation system is inaccurate. Manager who was a young girl came over and told me i could skt at the pub bar with my two small children to eat. She was rude and patronising, constantly calling me darking even after i told her i’d prefer she didn’t. She then went on to say bar or nothing and sent us on our way without any apologies. Informed her i’d be writing this review and received a laugh and “go ahead darling” Will never go back. Service is atrocious and management are awful. Avoid at all costs!

Having been to this charming pub on several occasions before for lunch and afternoon tea and always been very happy I decided to take some friends for another afternoon tea I’m afraid to say we were all so disappointed having booked a least a week in advance the Quality of food and choice was not up to past Standard we were seated promptly and then asked what tea we would like two of our party requested decaffeinated tea which they did not have any then the selection of sandwiches came I think cheese was the main choice one cheese and ham second mozzarella with avocado thirdly halloumi avocado salad do three different kind of cheeses fourth Choice was. Coronation chicken which was nice then came scones with cream and jam then a section of so called cakes unfortunately these were more like desserts just cut up to give the appearance of cakes which we hardly touch We had to ask serval times for replacement of tea and coffee and knives forks to cut our scones plus napkins There seemed to be only one guy serving he was pleasant enough and apologetic but the pub was not busy at all only two other tables of 4 so unfortunately we will not be returning so very disappointed

First time visiting since being taken over and refurbed. What an amazing improvement to the place, it was very busy which is a good sign. Monterey Jack & Honey Glazed Bacon Burger was by far the best burger I’ve ever had anywhere

Although my previous visit was some while ago, this beautifully-maintained venue has not changed. The environment, the service, and the food on my recent visit was as good as ever.

Picked Rosey Lea because it has kerb appeal and there was a pretty terrace to enjoy the last of the summer. Had a simple lunch of baked potato and a glass of wine which came to £17.45. The spud was OK and came with a decent amount of salad. However, for that money I want a big, fluffy and really hot potato where the cheese is happily melting in to the mix. The one I had was warmish and smallish. Service was friendly but on the slow side.
