The Cowper Arms in East Hertfordshire

Absolutely loved my time here! The venue itself is lovely and charming with loads of character, it feels very cosy and welcoming. I am a vegetarian myself so I was delighted with the menu, there was a good few options and the food was delicious! I had the glazed goats cheese to start with the halloumi burger main and both were divine. I also tried one of my friends onion rings and they were sooooo tasty! The toffee creme brûlée is now one of my favourite desserts. Well done to the chefs!! The service throughout my time in Cowper Arms Hertford was brilliant. I've worked in hospitality myself and I have to say everyone was very attentive and friendly. We had a drink in the bar both before and after our meal and I have to say the tall guy with the moustache and brown hair (I think his name was Jamie) stood out to me. He was really charming and friendly. We chatted about the fact we're both vegetarian and he whipped me up a delicious non alcoholic cocktail! We really had a laugh with him. He made us feel very welcome and I look forward to returning and chatting to him again. Great establishment, keep up the good work :)

I visited in April with some of my friends, and was served by Laura. The service was great, and Laura was very attentive and friendly. We were recommended an Elderflower Sherbet drink which was lovely. Will definitely return!

Had a lovely roast on a Sunday evening. Food excellent, atmosphere lovely and service was brilliant … from front of house … and especially Dylan who looked after us and was fabulous.

Had a lovely meal at the Cowper Arms for my birthday meal. Our server Jamie was so lovely and super attentive. He mentioned the chef Seb who made us all wonderful meals. Will definitely be returning !

Felt so welcomed as soon as I walked in to the bar. The tall guy at the bar, who's name i think.. is Jamie? He had such a warm and positivity energy about him. He had great recommendations on the wine selection, but I'm so glad I skipped the wine and went for a cocktail, because that drink tasted divine!! Very friendly young man, who provided a great service whilst we sat and waited for our table. Food was great, but the cocktail jamie made was the highlight.

Wonderful pizza main and crumble for desert. Anybody who does crumble these days already has a head start! Excellent food, high calibre service, relaxed, professional and great ambience.

Family lunch for 12 including 2 children. Everybody had a really good time. The food was lovely and the service from Joe was excellent. After the meal we went outside for a further drink in the beer garden in the afternoon sun which made for a great ending to our visit.

Family and friends meal this afternoon. Very busy bank holiday service, but very efficient service from Joe and the food was served promptly. Everyone enjoyed the lunch and the whole visit was excellent.

Came to the Cowper Arms last Sunday, we had the roast beef and the lamb special that our server Issy suggested to us. Food was amazing, service was even better. Will definitely be back.

Delicious!!! We can't wait to visit again! I had the duo of pork and OMG 💕 Pork belly AND pork fillet... And the apple ketchup was inspired! My partner had the buttermilk chicken burger, and wouldn't stop talking about how juicy it was the whole drive home. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. Bonus points for being dog friendly too! 🐾 The Cowper Arms comfy seats and a warm cosy feel was exactly what we needed after a long day. See you very soon!

Back here for a birthday meal last night. Fantastic friendly service, from our waitress (forgot her name) and Dylan. Food was excellent. I had the squid starter and then fish and chips. Others had scallops and then sea bass which was cooked to perfection. Finished off with a good cheese selection and a nice glass of red. Advise booking at weekends as it was pretty busy. Got to meet the chef! Wanted to say thank you for the quality of cooking.

This pub is a gem! Cosy atmosphere, delicious food, and incredibly dog-friendly. Perfect for a relaxing afternoon or evening.

Food was great and the staff were friendly and helpful. It appeared that you were understaffed. The service was very slow. But would visit again.

Outstanding restaurant and pub. The staff were excellent - care and attention to detail was amazing. The deputy manager - Trudi was an absolute star - nothing was too much and she made our visit extra special .

Visited for Sunday lunch. Even though it was very busy for Mother’s Day the service was still its usual great service. Joe our waiter was great and knowledgeable of the menu. I had the mushrooms in Cheddar Sauce followed by the double beef and finished with the sticky toffee pudding. My wife had king prawns to start and beef for the main with crumble to finish. Yorkshire puddings are great. Always great whenever we visit.

Amazing meal for Mother’s Day, the restaurant was so busy but we didn’t wait long for three courses and the food was delicious. Would definitely recommend the Camembert and the Sunday roast! We can’t wait to come back :)

Lovely pub with great decor and open fires. The service was a bit slow but it was busy. The food was tasty although the vegetarian meals were cold so had to send them back. The team couldn't apologise more, and brought them back piping hot. The desserts were good too. Good, friendly team that get things right.

We visited The Cowper Arms last Sunday around 4pm! Pub was very busy which is great to see but we were seated and served straight away. Food was quick, delicious and hot! We both had a roast - highly recommend. We were served by Joe who was extremely polite and well versed on the menu and drinks available! Great service!

Had 4 different Sunday lunch mains. 2 sharers & 2 individual meals. Food all arrived at the same time. All nice and hot. The staff were very attentive. Value for money and will definitely come again. Oh and we hadn't booked but due to the great weather we ate outside. Thoroughly recommend.

I went here today had a roast beef dinner, the beef was full of fat, the roast potatoes was hard like they had been re-cooked. It wasn’t a cheap meal , so was very disappointed by the standard. The veg was the only thing that was nice on the plate. I will NOT be returning.

I came to the Cowper arms with my friends for some lunch after our walk down Cole green way last weekend they had space for us in the restaurant we were served by Alice she’s was amazing so polite and on it which everything we asked for the food was lovely and speedy we had a lovely experience and will definitely be back

What an amazing night, greeted with with smiling faces all around. Our server was particularly attentive and made our visit feel special, thank you Natalia for being fab and i hope to visit again soon!! Also, try the creme brulee!!

Fabulous service as always. So patient and brilliant with our requests, including dietary requirements. They even indulged us some sentimentalities because it was our anniversary. A great spot to visit. A cosy pub with lovely fires which were kept topped up throughout the evening by the friendly team. We tried pork belly with scallops and the special chicken pie which were delicious. Trio of mini desserts was perfect for two to share. Cant wait to come back.

Went out for a business lunch, went for the valentine special menu which included a chateaubriand which seemed a great deal could have had champagne but went for the nice red bottle. Had the scallops which are always good here, and change the dish regularly so always done different ways. If you have not booked anything for valentine's would go for this doing all week and is great value. The visit was made that little bit special with the service we received from Natalia, looking forward to our next visit

Had Sunday lunch with the family at the The Cowper Arms. The atmosphere was brilliant, staff working so hard, roasts fantastic and the fish special, monkfish, perfectly cooked and delicious.

I really liked the ambience of this place, and the staff were pretty friendly. However, when you're paying over £30 for a ribeye steak, you don't expect it to be so fatty, you're left with minimal steak left to consume. I do expect some fat, but this was offputting. I would go back here, but I would have fillet steak or something else on the menu

I visited this venue with a friend yesterday. The service was very slow. The food was not good. We both had the beef and Malbec pie. Whilst the pastry was lovely, the meat was chewy, and therefore we left a lot of it. The vegetables were so hard we

Just went for drinks. Local pub. Restaurant was fairly busy. A few tables free to have a chat with my mate. Bar well stocked and quickly served. Perfect to catch up.

Food and staff always great. Nothing too much trouble. Love the open fires makes for a cosy relaxing evening out.

Ate there last night. Really disappointed with the Chateaubriand, which I shared with my grandson. It was his first chateaubriand so he knew no different, but it was the worst I have ever had. Small, thinly sliced, overcooked and not great quality meat. In balance my wife had Sea Bass and said it was lovely hence three stars. We also had a voucher for 50% off main courses, which negated my complaints, but it should be 50% off the price not quality and portion size. Real shame as staff were excellent all round and the atmosphere nice too.

We enjoy going to this pub - it's a lovely welcoming pub. Log fire, nice staff and the food is good. I would look out for offers. The drinks are quite pricey, but the bar and seating area is nice.
