We stopped overnight in our Motorhome whilst meeting up with friends in the area. We booked a table and sat down to delicious meals and drinks. Service was first class, staff very polite and friendly. We won't be back as we live 350 miles away in Scotland, but thought you should get a first class review for your establishment.

At 1815 arrived for our pre-booked table for 6. Shown to our table and handed menus and asked if we would like drinks. Ten minutes passed and someone took our drinks order. At 1840 our food order was taken. At 1950 our starters arrived. At 2010 our plates were cleared and apologies made for the lengthy wait and they would give us 20% off the final bill. At 2015 a table of 4 arrived and they were informed there would be a delay in food of approximately an hour BUT at 2040 their starters arrived! At 2045 with no update of where our food order was from any of the three staff working we went to the bar to pay and left. Apologies from the staff member made BUT the restaurant wasn’t busy. Two tables of 2 who had eaten and were eating when we arrived at 1815. One table of 4 in the bar area and a couple of tables outside who had ordered food. Had we been informed that there would be such a delay in food when we arrived we could have made a decision not to stay but this didn’t happen. Don’t like to give such a negative review BUT two and a half hours in a quiet restaurant with NO communication and only five halloumi sticks eaten, we could have flown halfway to Cyprus to eat them in a restaurant there instead in the time we spent at the Fancott!

Unfortunately this pub has gone downhill when it comes to food. The menu was not updated on line and therefore was different when we got there and we had rolls which were stale even though they state they are fresh from a local bakery! They were not! Staff and ambience very pleasant but I won’t be eating there ever again.

I used to frequently visit the Fancott when I lived in Luton. I booked a table for family as we were down from Manchester visiting and decided on the Fancott. After being charged £35 to reserve a table, we turned up to a pretty much empty restaurant (so the deposit seemed unnecessary). We then were approached by a guy who said he was the new manager, gave us our menus and then disappeared for 20 mins without taking a drinks order. When he came back to take a drinks order, he didn't mention ordering the food. It was 40 mins before someone came and took our food order. The glasses were filthy. The food was okay, but nothing special. Got completely ignored in the restaurant as it was sunny so a lot of people were outside. The bill came and we were told if we wanted to pay by card it would be better to 'go to the front'. Annoyingly my father in law took the bill and went and paid, as I've now realised that not only have the whacked a 10% service charge of £14 on the bill (what service??), they also haven't deducted the £35 deposit. Wouldn't bother. The place was completely disappointing and a huge rip off.

We have eaten here many, many times over the last 10 years and last night was sadly probably our last. First we noticed that there was a new menu which was half the size of the old one. Not a problem as still nice choices… My friend and I chose the mac and cheese. Our husbands ordered fish and chips and a burger. Theirs arrived, a plate full of food. Yum. Ours arrived and it was TINY! The mac and cheese was in a small bowl, no more than 4” wide and we could’ve eaten it in 6 decent forkfuls but we ate them individually to eke it out. The small salad was the frilly bitter lettuce that even mayo couldn’t make palatable with some small cubes of red pepper. The garlic bread was nice. This cost £12.50 and really should’ve been combined to make one meal as how much does it cost to make macaroni?? I’m not a pudding fan so whilst the others ordered the brownie, I went for the cheese board. But unfortunately they didn’t have cheese! So I had nothing. The brownie was around 6cm square with a scoop of ice cream and at £7 was not worth the money. With one round of drinks (2 soft drinks, a cider and a spritzer) and coffees, this meal cost each couple £60! I had had a boiled egg for lunch as I was going out in the evening so due to my minuscule dinner, I came home and had a bowl of cereal as I was still hungry! I have never done this before after a meal out. Bye bye The Fancott. It had been fun (until last night).

Service vey slow even though we had pre- ordered. Food quality not great, the soup was very thin and tasteless . We had one vegetarian who ordered a house salad and it came with broccoli and olives!!

Make sure you’ve allocated plenty of time! Food takes forever. Table of 12 with a preorder.. hate to think how it might have been without one. Food was nothing special, standard pub menu, disinterested staff, no check backs and a vegetarian salad was a joke.

By far the best roast dinner I have had in a pub/restaurant. So good we are going back today. Large portions, good selection of vegetables, roast potatoes to die for. Yorkshire pudding delicious. Definitely a hit with our family. Try it and see for yourself

Granted it was a quiet Monday night but on arrival we were greeted with a grunt by the bar tender who we discovered was also doing the waitressing. We tried to engage in conversation but no they didn’t want to communicate and appeared to have a definite attitude problem. Good choice on menu however food was very average, so that’s four customers who won’t be back.

This is a much Loved pub in the Luton area which I visited today for lunch. The menu was quite limited in options, but all the favourites were there. No frills, just solid popular items on offer. We went for the Beer Battered Fish and Chips after it was confirmed as haddock. Oh wow, was it good. The battered fish was perfect, crunchy batter with well cooked and proper flaky fresh fish. The chips were delightfully crispy and soft within, added to that some delicious mushy peas with a slight smokey taste to them. The young staff were very friendly and helpful. The environment was intimate but spacious. Loved our lunch there today. Thank You.

I came here for lunch and the food and service were both outstanding. The food had great portion sizes and was very flavourful and fresh. The chicken burger I had was amazing packed with flavour and it was very juicy. The waitress I had was brilliant she was so smiley and nice. Such a lovely atmosphere. I recommend to everyone!

Love this place food and drinks are always great and the train in the summer is always a blast…. I don’t care how old I am. But it was great to dine inside for a change and the standard is still high.

Staff were friendly and efficient. Good choice on lunch menu. Ordered drinks that were quick to be brought to the table. Food was freshly cooked and plenty of it. Good pub. The only thing that spolit it was 4 ladies who did nothing but moan about the place as soon as they arrived. The young waitress handled it very well 👏

We came as a family 4 for dinner on a Friday night. We booked last minute and asked if we could book for 7/7:30pm. The lady on the phone stated that they were going to be very busy but could squeeze us in at 7. However, we were there until 10pm and only saw 2 other tables the whole evening. We were the last table to leave the restaurant and considering it was a Friday evening it was not busy. The quality of service and the food was very poor. To order drinks and food the service was very slow considering how empty the restaurant was. A member of my family had ordered a steak and asked for no tomato. Instead it came with tomatoes and no mushrooms. We were told this was miss communication and this was quickly rectified and we’re brought out the mushrooms. We also asked for salt and pepper which we had to ask for 3 times before getting any. Once my family member started to eat the steak it was very undercooked. They had requested it to be cooked medium and it came out rare with blood dripping from it. The steak was full of gristle and couldn’t even be cut with the steak knife. We highlighted this to a waitress and she then tried to cut it and was also unable to. She then took it away and said she’d get it taken off the bill. Considering the rest of the family had nearly finished they didn’t want another meal brought out. The rest of us enjoyed our meals, we also had deserts and coffees. They did make another mistake and brought out the incorrect desert but we only had to wait a few moments for them to bring out the right one. When it came to paying the bill we noticed the steak was still on it. We asked the waitress if it could be discounted or taken off as we were not happy to pay the full price for what we received. Soon after, what I can only assume was the manager, came over. She was very rude. She said ‘so what was wrong with the steak then’ we explained what had happened and were confused as to why the waitress who dealt with this didn’t make anyone aware. It was then taken off the bill. We waited about half hour for them to bring the card machine over. In the end we had to go up to the bar to pay. As the waitress typed in the amount to the card machine a 10% tip was added on. The lady did not ask if we wanted to add a tip. When we explained we weren’t going to pay this, she questioned ‘oh why not?’. I find it bizarre that we were ‘expected’ to pay it and that it was added on without it being on the receipt. We won’t be returning. This is a shame as we have been multiple times and have seen it go downhill over the years. The service needs a lot of improvements.

Unfortunately from the moment of arrival the reception from the restaurant supervisor Laura, was very poor. No enthusiasm towards guests, or the dining experience. The restaurant was quiet for a Monday evening, we chose Monday as we knew that it used to be quieter than the weekend as it would be busy there was only us a party of 6 and 2 to 3 tables with parties no bigger than 4 so approximately 10 dinners that evening. Our starters where bought out and some were fine some where not, the soup was especially thick, even thou it was marked up as chunky veg expecting larger cuts of vegetables not thick and stoggy paste. The mains were the same again, I think one meal was hot, we sent back the gammon who was challenged by Laura stating they had just been plated up. The 2 chicken dishes were also sent back due to cold potatoes and after the return the French fries were hot probably after a meeting with the frier and the chicken was also hot properly after a spin round the microwave as it was as dry as could be and were not finished also the fish and chips where quiet tasteless cod if that's what was served or river cobbler described as cod. We stressed out remakes the Mia who was extremely concerned and plesent and professional manor, in her role which she far exceeds. A complementary round of deserts was offered and received thankfully. Myself and my wife have been the hospitality industries for some 25 years in and around the home counties and most major cities, and the food served tonight with such a little amount of customers was below sub standard. Alot has changed at the fancott over the last 8 years it used to be our place to go as the food and meat was of brilliant quality and standards were amazing. We keep trying to visit to see any improvements but Frankly continues to go downhill. Probably be our last visit tonight untill we hear of improvements in the near future. The male toilets used to signs of vandalism and the hand driers didn't work and no tissues to dry your hand, Such a shame..

Ordered the seabass which was nicely prepared but both the potatoes and the Chorizo were raw and undercooked When asked if we could get these two ingredients cooked up on a plate as requested by myself and my friend, it was heated up but not to a very good standard. Have not felt well today as a result of this and it’s a shame as we are very unhappy about this experience

We've been here a good few times now, very dog friendly for our girl Luna and they always make a fuss of my daughter too. Food is always great, fantastic service, staff always very friendly and accommodating. Can't fault Rich and his team, will be back soon

40 Wedding Anniversary what a fab evening all the pub staff were fab nothing was too much trouble for them, Charlet when out of her way to look after us Ron Rose Stanbridge.

We held a celebration for my husbands 60th birthday with family and chose the premium buffet which was excellent. Many guests commented on the quality of the food. The staff could not do any more to make it as enjoyable as possible and bent over backwards to ensure a good time was had by all. Thank you so much to all the Fancott staff.

I chose the pie of the day, the menu stated it came with seasonal vegetables it came only with peas. The gravy was very thick and gloopy two of us had chips that were served in a metal type bucket. When the chips were transferred to the plate the bottom of the bucket was dirty and rusty. Although the bucket was lined with paper the dirt and rust were seeping through Staff need to smile 😃 more in fact one was particularly rude with a look that could kill. She clearly didn't want to serve us. This nearly spoilt what was supposed to be a happy birthday for my grandson

Was really disappointed with our visit. There was quite a queue when we got there so there wasn't anyone available to take us to our booked table, so we waited to get served at the bar and let them know we had arrived. We were shown to our table and ordered our drinks with the waitress, (who had problems with her tablet) The drinks didn't come for 20 minutes as we saw another waitress was unsure which table had ordered them and she had to wait for her colleague to take another tables order before asking her. We then waited another 25 minutes but weren't approached by any of the staff for our food order. When we pointed this out to the manager, she said she would get our waitress, but by this time we decided we would prefer to leave and eat elsewhere than continue to wait. Our waitress was apologetic and everyone was polite but it was a bad experience for us.

Lovely location but the pub is looking rough around the edges and the food and service have slipped hugely. We only had mains and coffee and it took over two hours even though the young lady that took us through said they weren’t busy. She also came back whilst we waited for the food to apologise and offer free drinks, at least that was a decent touch. Downsides - a half pint came as a pint, when asked what the pie of the moment was the waitress didn’t know and went to find out but never came back to tell us. The lettuce in the burger was about twice the size of the burger, the chips were soggy, no pineapple for the gammon (out of tinned pineapple!), the two eggs offered were overcoooked, the Caesar salad was so poor it was knocked off the bill, good job!! The table wasn’t cleared even when we ordered coffee, the lady that brought the coffee moved the plates to the next table and then put the coffees on the tray on our table and left them. The coffee cups were left and no saucers, no difference to the product (which was bland) but this level of service is very poor.

Had 11 pound nachos literally table spoon of salsa and sprinkle of cheese dry pointless and I ordered sharer for one I lefs half what’s the point gammon wernt better uncooked egg chips wernt great and gammon was nice but the portion I got must of been the one there trying to get rid of

We were all very disappointed with the Sunday Roast as the portions were very small for the price we paid. We got 3 small roast potatoes and minimal veg with 2 tiny slices of meat. Considering the price of it, we left feeling very disappointed.It's a good place for the summer with children due to the train and playground but the food is very over priced for the quality and portion size.

A business/friend lunch and a convenient half way point for us both. Beautifully clean and well laid out. Staff and atmosphere were warm and welcoming. The food was delicious, served quite quickly, well cooked and more importantly hot!!The toilets were also very very clean. We will definitely use this venue again. Unfortunately I didn’t take any photos.

Lovely pub, great atmosphere and surroundings. The staff are absolutely lovely, I got served my drink straight away, service was fast and food outstanding. I came for the Wednesday curry night, everything was delicious and very reasonable portions. I was served by Ella and Kiera I believe, they were very nice and attentive but not intrusive. Overall amazing experience, will definitely come again.

First visit in 6 years for a family meal and belated Birthday meal, and unfortunately the service was very slow.It took about 25 minutes to be asked if we wanted any drinks and a further 20 or so to get them - and the order was wrong!Main course delivered just after 2pm, desserts ordered just after 3pm and it took 20 mins for 2 bowls with 2 scoops of ice cream to arrive, and another couple of mins for the rest.Nearly 3 hours for 2 courses is rather excessive! Had to cancel a swimming session due to the food taking so long to arrive!Might be another 6 years (or longer!) before we try going again based on that performance I'm afraid - plus the menu was quite limited for people trying to eat healthily!

Excellent food! Portion sizes were just right. Happy, bright staff with a good positive attitude. Although it was very busy the staff were completely in control of the situation.

Lovely friendly smiley staff who made sure we had everything we needed in good time , the food was lovely and pub really lovely and clean .

Met with a friend for lunch. Had a very enjoyable meal in the bar by the cosy log burner. The staff were friendly and efficient. Special shout out for staff member Moo! I went here for lunch with a friend on a weekday. The food was excellent and the service was friendly and attentive, but never intrusive. I would definitely go back.

I was a little overdue for food and away on business appointments when a client recommended this establishment late afternoon. I was immediately greeted and told the staff member that I was in need of food, whereupon I was shown to a quiet corner table and given a menu. I ordered a lime and soda and gammon, egg and chips with peas. My drink was served immediately and I was able to make a couple of important calls whilst waiting for my meal, which arrived a few minutes later piping hot. The food quality was superb, as it was freshly cooked and I was very grateful for it as I was very hungry.Foolishly, I left my coat on the chair and only realised when I arrived home in Kent, as my diabetic blood sugar meter was in its pocket. I immediately called the Fancott and they arranged to have it return to me by first class post. My thanks to Kiera and Jade for looking after me and I will unreservedly recommend this eatery for food quality, value, service and helping out an idiot.
