The foods actually really good and it’s got a lovely garden area, just the service needs sorting out as it was terrible. It wasn’t particularly busy but it really took a long time. We visited a few weeks later, only to have to wait even longer to be served and then after receiving drinks and and placing our food order was told it was a 1h wait for food, would of been nice to have been advised about the food wait times as we where seated or when placing our drinks order. Hopefully management turn it around soon.

The food was excellent and well worth the wait and I would certainly visit avians but we were sat for 35 minutes before we were served with a drink. It was quite busy but there seemed to be plenty of staff but came across as chaotic and slow

From our arrival we could tell that this was understaffed. The lady who greeted us was so rude, a smile would have been nice. Completely understand that being understaffed is stressful but making people feel unwelcome isn’t needed. Had to go and ask for extra cutlery as they didn’t bring enough. Drinks took 30 minutes to arrive and came out a few at a time. Overall not very accommodating which is a shame as I come here a lot and it’s usually lovely.

Good food, friendly service, reasonable prices and nice surroundings. Limited menu but that’s a bonus for me. Young staff a little inexperienced but we all have to learn. Service prompt and friendly. Food freshly prepared and cooked in a nice relaxed atmosphere. Toilets clean and accessible. Only downside is the parking on a sharpe bend off the A6. Keep up the good work will return and recommend.

Waited around 15 minutes to order, were told they would come to the table but after 15 minutes we went to the bar only to be sold by the waiter he was to busy and sit back down..we stayed (we should have left) he came and took our order, another 10 minutes wait for drinks. 45 minutes went by so we went to the bar again to be told food was being plated up. 15 minutes later we decided to leave, asked to pay for the drinks we had. The waiter said its a waste of food, but it still had not arrived after 1 hour. No apology, just asked if we wanted a receipt. Will not return, waiter was rude. Wait times were horrendous. Such a let down as been before and enjoyed it. Was a family members birthday so not a great start to the day.

What a great find this was for a family lunch. We were given a warm welcome and all 6 of us were very happy with the food we ordered and received. Freshly cooked, fabulous quality and good quantity at a very reasonable price. The ploughman’s was generous, salmon salad very tasty, all day breakfasts went down a treat, and the kids meals spot on. What’s not to love? If we were local we would be regulars!

We live locally and visit often with our 2 children. We are always so pleased with the service we receive, everyone is friendly and helpful, and go out of their way to make sure the children have what they need. There is lots of choice on the menu for adults and children, we have something different most times despite being regular visitors. The nicest thing is the outside space, the garden is well kept with a great play area for small children, it’s a lovely place to spend an afternoon when the weather is nice.

We stayed at The Family Tree on Sat 23 March. We arrived a little earlier than check in time and were greeted warmly by Charlie who let us take a seat while we had a glass of wine. Lots of choice available (white/rose/red - another lovely member of staff talked us through all the options) and there was plenty of space in the restaurant inside and outside too. Charlie then showed us to our room when we were ready and we had the ‘Sycamore’ - an exceptionally decorated and spacious room equipped with everything you need for a great stay including a very well sized bathroom with luxury toiletries and bath, mini fridge, complimentary sweet treats, teas & coffee facilities, steamer with iron available and a useful guide of nearby attractions, restaurants and facilities which was great help for a pair like us from up North. Although just off a main road, the place oozes tranquility. It’s noise free and felt wonderfully peaceful. The bed was incredibly comfortable and just what you need after exploring the local countryside. Then on to breakfast - we had the sparkling breakfast at 09:30 on Sunday morning. The restaurant was buzzing with families, dogs and couples alike all enjoying the spring sun. Staff took our order and brought out our teas and juices promptly. We started with their cold breakfast - an assortment of meats, cheeses, yogurts, fruit & pastries which were all divine. If that’s not enough, the breakfast also included a hot dish of which we chose the family tree breakfast and vegetarian sausage & halloumi muffin. Both were huge, cooked to perfection and served with our prosecco. We were genuinely stuffed and couldn’t have been happier with the service. It was also great to see such a welcoming attitude to everyone no matter whether you’re a local or from afar. Staff checked to make sure everything was OK and made sure we were well looked after and checking out of our room was easy as pie. There’s also a huge free car park across the road for customers which was great, there’s plenty of bike space for any keen cyclists and a kids play area. It’s also a 2 minute walk away from Whatstandwell train station with frequent services to Matlock, Matlock Bath & Derby which was really useful. Will be back for sure! Thanks for a great stay.

Outstanding!!! We stayed en route to a family wedding locally. We booked all rooms in the B & B, had lunch before our stay and also stayed for breakfast. The staff were outstanding and couldn’t do enough for us. We even had the function room so that the bride and her entourage could have their hair and make up done before attending the big day. Will definitely be going back to stay and for food. Can’t recommend the Family Tree enough. I have no words. If you pass STOP for food if you need a bed STOP very luxurious. Driven past many times but went today for breakfast. Lovely choices and went for the traditional cooked breakfast. Really busy so had half an hour wait but was worth it. Only spoilt by so many dogs in the place - I don’t mind them but not when I’m eating food. One large table had 2 on long leads near a door and they made no attempt to control them even though people were literally falling over them trying to get to the toilets and other room. Would try again but probably wait until the summer when hopefully all the dogs would be outside in the garden

Terrible from start to finish. There wasn't a spare table which made us think .. this is going to be good! We ordered and then waited approx 20 mins for our drinks. I had managed to track down a lad (so called waiter). He said it will come when it does! It did . Small Rose wine (£4.70) It hadn't been fridged! So I had to go back and ask ... The young lad had taken the display ones and not cold ones from the fridge. It was a Saturday and the whole front of house was manned by boys, all probably under 20... They appeared to be totally untrained. When the food eventually came we found the salt grinder was empty.. I tried several only to discover all were pepper.. I asked for some salt .. he said .. there all out! Totally unprofessional. He eventually took the grinder to fill, by the time he returned, our meals were virtually cold! I think I spent more time on my feet than I sat! There was also a party being prepared in the function room. The same staff were dealing with them too. Basically they didn't have enough staff to cope. They surely will ruin their business with chaotic unqualified staff. The food was average. The menus were all peeling apart at the edges... not hygienic or giving a good impression. we were really shocked at the whole experience. We won't return or recommend.

Always wanted to visit as it looks nice from the outside, we had a spare hour so thought we’d pop in. It was busy and the waitress asked us to wait while she did some paperwork. After 5 minutes she came over and said she may have a table she’d check. 5 minutes later she came back and took us through. We waited 15-20 minutes for someone to take our order before we upped and left. Very disappointing, won’t be trying there again.

Although the staff were polite, the service today was poor. After waiting to be seated it took over 20 minutes for our order to be taken, and this was after confirming with a member of staff that it was table service. Ordered tea, hot chocolate and two cakes. The drinks eventually arrived after a further 10 minutes, but no cakes. One cake arrived 5 minutes later and the second one 5 minutes after that, when my husband had finished his drink. I noticed other reviews which mentioned the same poor service. It would seem that management are not taking much notice. We won’t be back.

Visited for lunch. It was very busy due to a birthday function. We were told there would be a wait. We waited over 30 minutes for a bacon and egg bagel and a tuna jacket potato. Oh dear. Where to start. Looks nice inside and the young person who seated us was helpful and polite. We sat for 15 minutes waiting to be asked what we'd like - a different person took our order. We waited again... a good half hour... the coffees turned up and ONE cake. Why?! why just one?! we'd all ordered sandwiches and cake (there were three of us). Another wait and by now we're getting frustrated as there doesn't seem to be many people. Another guy near by went to ask where his order was. We asked how much longer we had to wait. The guy said his coffee was cold... the waitress said there were four orders in front of us, so at least another half hour. We paid for the coffee and the one cake... and left. Very disappointing.

In the hour and a half we were there for our sparkling breakfast not once were we asked if everything was OK nor were we offered further drinks we had to ask for them and then wait a further 15 minutes to get 2 cups of tea. Prosecco was given to us in unopened bottles no offer to open it for us. Cheap supermarket bread was used breakfast nothing special, very dry and bland. Frustrated by being ignored even had to ask for a napkin none on the table and only one brought out not even one each. we were not even asked when leaving if everything had been alright or if we d enjoyed it they probably realised their service was poor. This was a birthday gift which I was looking forward to but have been left feeling upset and disgruntled. Would definitely not recommend going here

We popped in for a coffee and cake. It wasn’t too busy but after waiting 5 mins by the “wait here to be seated” sign and several staff seeing us but not acknowledging us, we walked out. We had a lovely walk down the canal and back. It was about 3.15pm and noticed it was nearly empty, so decided to try again. A polite Irish lad took our order of an apple juice, cappuccino and 2 scones. We waited 15 mins for the drinks and in that time nobody else appeared to have been served, then waited a further 5 mins for the scones. Another table close by also had to wait for parts of their order to arrive which was similar to our own (nothing fancy) but was served bit by bit. However, a couple arrived who were stopping in a room there, were served within minutes of having their order taken, even though others still hadn’t been served. Poor service at a quiet time of the day even though there were 5-6 members of staff walking in and out……… Needless to say, we won’t be calling again until there is a sign saying “ Under New Management”

Then all of a sudden a member of staff put our bill on the table and walked off. We hadn't even asked for the bill. It was very embarassing for me and I will never return. Very disappointing. Our order got forgotten. When we asked an hour later if it was going to come soon was produced straight away. Jacket potato and beans cold. I complained and after another wait the food came back same temperature.

Thanks to a random choice we chose Café G. What a lucky choice. On a grey day it felt welcoming, the overall impressions were clean, despite a small footprint not small or crowded, and the furniture was just right for the pleasant décor. Then two simple meals later we were well satisfied with the short wait, the pleasant service and the presentation of a well cooked meal.

The food is excellent and so are the staff. It is a very friendly country style cafe with a homely feel. Their breakfasts are fab. So are their dinners and a great choice of deserts. Their pies are fab nice and meaty with no fat. Served with whatever you want. However, with their special potatoes & peas they are lovely. There is a great choice of food and it is all home made. Claire and family who run it are so nice and they are very attentive and helpful. We call it our local and we would not go anywhere else. Well done to all the staff.

I called by for a quick breakfast sandwich takeaway before work. I wanted to spend at a local independent business and try somewhere new. I wish I hadn’t picked here… I ordered a sausage sandwich for £3 and chucked it straight in the bin after one bite. Chewy microwaved pre-cooked sausages on cheap white bread with a measly bit of ketchup. I wouldn’t even pay 50p for that. The owners should be ashamed of this… if this is the usual standard of food I’d expect them to be closed down soon.
