This is a great family friendly local pub and restaurant with the added bonus of bed and breakfast rooms out back. The food here is fantastic and of such a fresh quality- local word says the meat comes from the local farm butchers just down the road! Would definitely recommend this pub to anyone whether it’s for a quick pint or a lovely meal.

Visited The Falcon yesterday for Sunday Lunch, a party of six adults and two children. We were seated upstairs. From start to finish the experience was superb. The service from every member of staff was second to none. So friendly and they excelled at making our afternoon so thoroughly enjoyable. The Sunday Roasts were excellent, beautifully presented and so tasty. A few of our party had desserts and again they were excellent. Will soon be returning. Many many thanks.

We arrived to a warm welcome after a 6 hr drive. The Inn was clean and fresh and had a lovely ambiance. We was shown to our room that was in a cute quiet courtyard at the rear of the inn. The room was quaint and had everything we could possibly need. We ate in the restaurant, the food was lovely and freshly cooked, if I had one criticism was a bit more potato topping on the shepherds pie. Our beds were so comfortable and the shower powerful. We will definitely stay again.

We stayed for one night prior to a flight at East Midlands Airport and everything was excellent, from the warm, welcoming staff, to the rooms and the simply delicious food (evening and breakfast). Firstly the pub: food, drinks, restaurant… All excellent. The sign of a great pub for ale drinkers is one with knowledgeable staff who are keen to let you sample before deciding on a pint. This was the case here and we worked through all five real ales during the afternoon and evening! Also a great selection of wines, and everything served in the correct glasses - I loved the attention to detail. Then the evening meal in the restaurant area of the pub: this was also excellent, with a great menu and top food, in plentiful portions. Really delicious all ‘round. We didn’t manage desserts but starters and mains all great. The pub/restaurant is well presented inside and out, with a lovely beer garden at the back. Secondly, the hotel rooms: we were in rooms 1 & 2 and both were lovely. They were well presented, comfy beds, nice hospitality tray (with fresh milk in the in-room fridge), nice toiletries. The room rate included breakfast, which was all freshly cooked to order and once again, a great selection. I would 100% stay here again, especially if going to/from East Midlands airport which was less than a 10 minute drive. A lovely, traditional country Inn with excellent food and hospitality. Thank you to the full team.

Attended a funeral wake. Room was provided upstairs but most of the party were elderly and unable to use stairs. Food was hastily brought down to the bar but the party couldn't be private due to the large amount of regulars. Hot drinks were available upstairs via an urn etc as part of the buffet but we had to pay for tea or coffee at the bar. No room for the wheelchairs and unsuitable for the infirm getting to the toilets. Not well thought out.

We came here for Mothers Day and I have to say it was a lovely experience. The staff were friendly and couldnt do enough for us, the food was ridiculously good and offered good value for money. I am usually disappointed by a roast dinner out (my mum used to make the best) but I have to say this was first rate. A great selection of veg, cracking with the pork and lovely fluffy roast potatoes. They certainly know what they are doing when it comes to food and ambience ! Well done.

We visited this pub a the end of last year, it’s somewhere we drive past en route to The Royal Oak regularly. Our first visit was a bit disappointing as the food wasn’t particularly hot. This past weekend was even worse. My friend wanted the trio of meat roast dinner. She doesn’t like turkey so asked for a slice of something else and it was a straight no! Why it would be a problem I don’t know. When the plate came out with the roast potatoes and meat on there were two tiny potatoes the size of a walnut on the plate!! I thought it was a joke! We requested more potatoes and they did bring us some more. The cauliflower cheese was awful. I like el dente veg but the cauliflower was so hard and the cheese sauce was shocking. It was so thin and like milk. Just awful. There was about a teaspoon of cabbage between the two of us. Definitely not worth the money we paid and in future will be going to The Royal Oak for our Sunday dinners

We came here for lunch and left with our bellies full. Nice pub, with the vibe of a traditional village pub. There were 7 of us and we were able to sit together. The menu does not offer any lunch options, which is a shame as this did make lunch slightly more expensive than you would expect to pay. Saying that the food was lovely and you could tell it was homemade. Bill including drinks came to just under £150, so £25 per head. This was for Round of drinks 5 main meals 1 lighter bite meal 1 childs meal 3 coffees 2 puddings We will be back

A little disappointing.... I'd been here before about 6 or 7 months ago and was looking forward to returning for Sunday lunch. However... The place was really busy which says a lot about their usual quality. Maybe our experience was a "one off". We were shown to a table near the glass return area. Some guys who were sitting at the bar had to move otherwise we would barely have got seated at all. There was an old picture of the pub at the side of us which was so thickly coated in dust we could barely see it! I ordered the three meat roast and my partner ordered the single vegetarian option on the lunch menu...some kind of vegetable loaf. The server returned to say that there was no vegetarian loaf...but there was a vegetarian wellington. For that to be the case...and for her not to initially know....it was clearly frozen and waiting to be "pinged" The food took 50 minutes to arrive. A Sunday roast, which pretty much everyone would have ordered, took 50 long minutes. Why...when we has prebooked our table for 3.30 and arrived 5 minutes early...did a Sunday roast take 50 minutes to serve? The food eventually arrived. It looked grey but...in fairness...the meats were beautifully cooked. Extra veg arrived for the pair of us. There was one floret of broccoli between two and a few peas. The cauliflower cheese was obviously frozen...because it was still frozen in the middle and had to go back. Overall a disappointing experience. Maybe if we'd had a table in the main body of the room the ambience would have been better. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day. But the cleaner needs a talking to and the service simply has to be faster. We'll try it again in a month or two and report back

This is the second time we have eaten an evening meal here, stayed the night and had breakfast. The pub is welcoming, with log burners going, good beer and friendly staff. The food is very nice, although the menu choice is small, what they do is spot on. The full English Breakfast the next day was also 10/10. Now for the reason why I only scored it a 4, the accommodation, its not bad, but it is starting to look a little tired and you can just tell that it needs a bit of attention to detail. The bathroom needs a deep clean and a bit of a refurbishment, with the shower being loose and hanging off the tiles, grout and sealant being a bit discoloured and extractor fan being really dirty. We had tea and coffee in the room, but had no milk, I assume they had forgotten to put this in the room. All in all, I would eat and stay here again, but would recommend that the owners give the accommodation a bit of tlc.

What an unbelievably good place this is!! It all starts with the staff and the friendly welcome. That sounds simple BUT so many places these days cant even get that right! Whether it was the young ladies cleaning the rooms, the staff behind the bar, the lady booking us in for our room or the chef! Without exception, they were all amazing! The quality of the rooms were superb. Its clear that a lot of effort goes into making them not only look right, feel right but also cleaned to an exceptionally high standard. The effort and attention given is clear to see. The rooms are converted from a very old building so don't expect minimalist, modern flat packed furniture and a boring corporate look. The rooms had character, floors were slightly uneven, bathroom panelling a little all over the place, old windows with added secondary glazing. It all added to the charm! We had an afternoon snack in the pub whilst being kept warm by the open fire! Dinner in the evening and breakfast in the morning. We had three attempts to sample the food and 10/10 for each session! Good value but more importantly, great quality food, cooked to perfection and served beautifully! I have never stayed here before BUT i will now be recommending/insisting any of my staff use this establishment when they are anywhere in the area (and that's before I can negotiate a better rate)!! A special mention goes to Helen who looked after myself and my brother at dinner. A great example of a friendly but professional member of staff that capped off a perfect stay!

We've been meaning to check out our local since it reopened under new management but then lockdown v2 happened. Had takeaway fish and chips tonight. Fish and chips is my 'barometer meal'. I order it regularly as it's easy to get wrong, so it's a great 'test' of a pub. The Falcon came up trumps and it was head and shoulders above the efforts of the last landlord. Crispy batter, great fat chips and honest to goodness the best tartar space I've eaten (and if its not homemade I want to know where it comes from). We look forward to spending many a pleasant evening in the Falcon once we are allowed to go out again and we wish the new management every success.

I booked for Sunday dinner this weekend. As you have an open kitchen I sat and watched your chef microwave every single thing and deep fat fry the roast potatoes! When my gammon came out it was stone cold as he had microwaved it for hardly any time and then poured hot gravy onto it ! There was not one single bit of checking any food temperature at all! He didnt throughout cooking anything. My second lot came still only warm in the middle, you will give someone severe food poisoning especially a child!! He then put some raw chicken onto the hot plate and rinsed his hands under the tap with no soap! He then picked a Yorkshire pudding up and put it in the microwave with no sanitizing hands from raw!!The chicken he was cooking was for the staff who she decided to eat this with her fingers while wiping knife and forks and serving food,With covid I could not believe this was happening! She was eating it while moaning how she hadn't had 5 minutes and people moan that there is no roast dinner left ! Maybe take dinners off early then she dont have to have people moaning if they have booked for one.I'm discusted in what I seen and I cant believe I actually sat and watched what I did!I did email the falcon with no reply back

I'm afraid it was a bit of disappointing visit in all. Greeted by very helpful professional waitress an initial impression was positive. A local pub with some character, interesting decor and a great bottle of Merlot. Ordered food, Scampi came on a cold plate, seafood platter came without the advertised prawns and Marie Rose sauce - substituted for extra Scampi and a chips without consultation which was ok but I would have thought we may have been given the option of changing the order. Not a disaster, shared a generous portion of a good Chocolate Fudge Cake for dessert.Headed for our room, clean sheets on a comfy bed. Carpet not seen a vacuum cleaner, lights covered in dust, cob webs in the corners, coating on the lid of a broken bathroom bin and dirty drinking glasses. I think that the decor was an attempt at shabby chic, it was nearly there just a bit more shabby than chic.Breakfast was a full English, offered either cranberry juice or apple juice from communal jugs that had been on other residents tables. Again cold plates. The condition of the room was discussed with the proprietor who expressed disappointment and an apology was given.Could be a great stop off but just missed especially with concerns of Covid 19, needs more attention to detail. Pleasant staff.

Ours was a bad experience. Booked a table for 7.30, eventually served just after 9pm. Kitchen under provisioned. We had to re-choose mains three times. When they arrived the fish platter was missing the scampi, my vegetable tart should have had a side salad- some lettuce and red onion and the stone cold sweet potato fries were returned. More importantly the staff did not seem covid aware. No masks or visors or gloves. They handled cutlery and the waitress moved a vinegar bottle from one couple's table to another. We dine out frequently but felt vulnerable here. We left without finishing our meal. They did knock off the cost of the drinks to compensate but we would have preferred a pleasant experience.

I want to start by saying the food we received was good and we enjoyed it. I was, however, surpised that none of the staff were wearing facemasks or shields unlike other restaurants that I have visited during the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. There were other people put on a table particularly close to ours and we ended up moving our table so we had more space. I wanted to write a review to let people know this in case you were looking for a place to go for the first time post-lockdown.

My family visited our local pub for my daughters 19th birthday and we were having a lovely time until ‘Ralph’ the owner or manager came outside and asked us very rudely and aggressively if we were leaving - this was at 11pm, 30 mins before closing time and 20 minutes after serving us drinks. We asked if he was joking and he said loudly and threateningly leave now! We couldn’t believe we had been spoken to like that - we were all so shocked and upset. I have lived in the village for 20 years and have regularly visited the Falcon for meals and drinks and have never been treated like this! Unfortunately if ‘Ralph’ continues to run this pub it will be a disaster.

We wanted somewhere rural, on the outskirts of Leicester to have a relaxing weekend at short notice. Given the recent easing of lockdown restrictions I think many people had the same idea and many 'dog friendly' 'Pubs with Rooms' were fully booked. With little to no research we stumbled upon The Falcon Inn in Long Whatton and it didn't disappoint. A lovely family run pub set is a bright and traditional village. The weather was on our side (for the first day at least) and so we got to spend time in the quirky beer garden and chatted away with friendly locals.Dogs are allowed in all parts of the pub (with perhaps the acceptation of the private dining upstairs) as well as in the beer garden and picnic areas. There is great green space to stretch out the paws, dishes with fresh water and complemtary dog biscuits to boot! Our four legged friend particulalry liked that locals brought him a biscuit back from the bar with each round!Equal to the lovely atmosphere and surroundings was the friendliness of staff. Everyone was very accomodating, bright and bubbly. You couldnt help but get drawn into the story of the new landlords and appreciate the time and effort they put into making you feel welcomed. From the little touches such as remembering our breakfast order from the day before, to making sure we had a well situated table where the dog had space to streth out - it all lended itself to a lovely few days.Breakfast both days was cooked to order and frankly delicious! Exactly what we needed and were looking for. The lunch and dinner food menu had a large selection to choose from and to our expereince it varied a little in quality - the veggie burger was a pretty dry, store bought pattie and the chicken and mushroom dish was a bit messy. Nothing to complain about by any matter of means but also not the cherry on the cake that will be the deciding factor a return visit. We got to talking with Mark who had travelled from Leeds for the bike racing at the nearby Donnington Racetrack (another huge positive in terms of location and opportunity for a good chin wag with a new friend!). Mark had the steak which did look to go down a treat. The location of The Falcon really is fantastic if you like long walks and pubs stops with a dog. We covered about 7-8 miles on the Saturday taking in the beautiful gardens at Whatton House, pub lunch at The Otter and looped around the next villiage of Kegworth (where we stopped again from an obligatory pint) before heading back. Our only real stubmingling block was the attention to detail in the cleanliness of the room. It was without doubt a great sized room with coffee facilities, large windows, a super comfy bed and great pillows but there was some unfortunate dist and hairs that were not our own. The back and behind the toilet were a bit... 'dusy' and there was hair in the plug hole of the shower/bath. That being said, i did (very politely!) asked the very obliging house cleaning lady is she would mind wipping round which she did without delay. All in all a really lovely, relaxing few days away. The pub grub filled a hole after a long day of walking and the shower brought some heat back in to our bones - the well flowing beer, great location and people are what will have us back.

First time out since Lockdown and never visited The Falcon before. Called in for Sunday Lunch and sat upstairs in restaurant. Staff were welcoming and friendly, safety measures and sanitisation explained. But most importantly food was delicious. Starters innovative and roasts lovely with thoroughly recommended cauliflower cheese and huge Yorkshire puddings! Would I recommend - absolutely. Would I come back? I can’t wait.

A lunchtime option is 2 meals for £14 which me and a friend enjoyed. Pudding was extra - we both had crumble which came with lashings of custard. We were there on Monday 9th March and a very friendly and helpful waitress served us. Recommended.

I do not know if this was an off night or the place as gone downhill. They make a big thing on their menu about the quality of their steak and how chef knows how to cook it. Both I and my wife had the sirloin steak, both we tough and fatty, I asked for mine medium it was more like rare and my wife’s who had hers well done still was Red in side. Our daughter had the chicken and she said that was greasy. The service started off fine we had a starter and the main, no one came to ask us how our meal was and after we had finished we were totally ignored, other tables were cleared and other guests serviced. Our plates were not cleared away and in the end I had to ask for the bill as we did not feel like staying for dessert and coffee. It was a real shame as it was a meal for our daughter’s birthday and it certainly did not feel special or we were valued customers, needless to say we will not return.

Dined at the Falcon for lunch with a friend on Thursday 5th March and had a fabulous meal! Arrived 45 minutes early, and was met by very pleasant staff. Apologised for being early, but it wasn’t a problem. Care had been taken where to seat me as I am disabled, and drinks were offered straight away.Starters and mains were ordered and arrived hot, beautifully cooked and presented. After the starters we were asked if we wanted mains straight away, or to wait a while. We opted to wait 15 minutes, and mains were brought after that time .The pate, and baked Camembert were excellent, and the chilli chicken and chicken Kiev were sublime. At no time did we feel rushed, and a really relaxed lunch of almost four hours was enjoyed. The hospitality, cheerful staff and excellent food makes The Falcon a fantastic place to dine, and I fully recommend you to go.Will I go again? You bet I will !

Not great. The food was uninspiring with no thought to presentation. Portion size was ridiculously small. Very disappointing and I will not be visiting them again. Great shame as it used to be a great pub.

We came here as a group of seven friends for a Sunday lunch. I found the downstairs area very cosy with a real log fire and comfortable seating and nice decor. There was a good selection of beers and wines on offer and the food menu is great. We sat upstairs which was a little on the cold side due to the traditional drafty windows (and no fire) but it was still very pleasant (and the wind was very strong on the day).I had chicken pate for a starter - it was a generous portion with nice crunchy slices of toasted bread and a decent chutney. Others had the baked Camembert and the scotch eggs with no complaints and a lot of yums and nom nom noises being made which I assume meant it was all okay. For a main I had a generous chicken kebab served with two dips and a flatbread. It was nice and tender but I think if I went again I would go for one of their homemade pies which looked great. The roast lamb was served with great homemade Yorkshire puds and very generous dishes of vegetables including cauliflower cheese. I don't think anyone had a bad thing to say about the food and we had a great time. The puddings as usual in these places were really the stars of the show, so if you are a two course person opt to skip the starters. The cheesecake of the day looked lovely and so too the creme brulee. I was torn between the apple and blackberry crumble or the sticky toffee pudding and in the end had banoffee pie as its rare to find it on traditional menus on a Sunday. It was nuce but didn't really blow me away like perhaps the huge slice of chocolate cake someone else had might of...The service was excellent throughout and we felt that the bill, which was substantial given most of us had eaten three courses with drinks, was nevertheless justified.

It's a long time since we visited the Falcon Inn but were recommeneded by friends to try again. On arrival the first thing that hits you is the smell of smoke from the big open fire they have. Even though we went upstairs to the restaurant the smell follows you around. First impressions in the restaurant were good. Although we were 15 minutes early for our booking the table was ready so we took our seats. Staff came and took our drinks order and although it was a little time before theu arrived, things were looking positive. Ordered our first two courses but had to wait nearly fifty minutes before they arrived. 5 soups and a pate, 50 minutes, why? In all fairness the starters were good. Soup was hot, bread with it fine and the pate decent, but why 50 minutes? It was about the same wait for the main meal. When they arrived they looked ok but one of our party had asked for a well done steak. When he cut it in half blood ran from the steak so he had to send it back to be cooked to his liking. Other than that the main meals were fine, Then we ordered desserts. Again a long wait. As we had sat down at 7.15pm it was now reaching 10.10pm and the desserts hadn't arrived. The waitress walked past the table and asked if we were waitibg for desserts to which we replied yes. It was another 5 minutes before they arrived. Four seperate dishes of ice cream and a dish of crumble. Why that took 50 minutes to serve only the chef can say. Then ordered three americano coffees with cream. One of the party tipped the cream in and it just curdled on top of the coffee so the waitress took it away and had to bring fresh cream and another coffee. All in all it took 3 hours 15 minutes to be served the three courses. Now no one likes to be rushed but this was taking things to the other extreme. In fairness to the staff when we asked for the bill they came back and said they had knocked off the coffees and had also deducted 15% off the bill due to the length of time it had taken to serve us. It was pleasing not to have to argue and haggle and i assume they were somewhat embarrassed by the service they had given. We did leave a tip for the waitresses, it wasn't their fault we had to wait but surely the kitchen needs better organisation or this will become a regular occurrence and put people off from dining there. Overall, the food was reasonable, the waitressess ok but there needs to be a look at the times the food takes to come from the kitchen. Would we return? Maybe in the future to see if things have improved but others may not be so generous in their outlook.

Welcome greeting good atmosphere attentive but not intrusive staffSadly the meal was let down by minor detail - my scotch egg was hard boiled not runny my wife's pie crust was burnt, my daughters burger came minus the brie and some of the green beans were overcooked and other barely cooked!Inspite, we enjoyed the meal but could have been A+ rather than A-

Group of us visited for a family Sunday lunch and we were very happy with everything. Great choice for vegetarians and vegans. All food was tasty, (gravy and yorkshires were especially good) staff were friendly and helpful and we had a lovely time.

Although doing well to cater for a large group of people, the service was pretty awful. No vegetables came with the dinners, deserts got muddled up and then told they had run out of vanilla ice cream!

Very average Sunday lunch. The service was absolutely awful. The potatoes arrived half way through the first course. We had to ask three times for our drinks, that finally arrived as we had finished eating. We didn't bother with a pudding as you can imagine.

We visited Te Falcpn Inn last week for a Sunday roast ... Very nice food no complaints there ... A couple of issues though firstly the portions and very small the roast beef is cut wafer thin ... Secondly the Roast Chicken is served WITHOUT a yorkshire pudding I was told if I wanted one then we wouldbe charged extra for this ... Such a shame as the food is delicious would just like a little more of it

This is a lovely place to visit. As others have said nice and helpful staff. The lunch time menu now offers a wide choice of specials which are very tasty and well cooked. We like the open plan kitchen. This has become a regular place for us to meet up with friends and never lets us down.

my son booked this place and a poor experience really, they have a baby which he told them on booking but we ended upstairs with pushchair etc(no baby changing facilities)my son changed Freddie in the back of his car. This is the only restaurant we have visited where when my wife complained that her meal was not cooked she got a second one that was supposedly freshly cooked(in 3 minutes)that was the same as the first and she was told by the kitchen staff via the waitress there was nothing wrong with the meal, they did exchange it for a different dish eventually.only good point about the visit was our waitress.

visited this week, en route to Whatton House and Gardens there, so stopped at the Falcon for a really good lunch, great variety to choose from; the service was prompt, nothing too much trouble to sort, allowing for tricky diets.Hilary the lady of the Falcon went the extra mile : no taxi cab was available to take me to the Gardens, too far to walk to. Hilary stepped in with her racy car, and not just took me there herself ( an adventure in itself) but returned to bring me back.

Previously had good experiences here, reviewed well here in the past. However, I took my parents and daughter here today, booked in advance. Was seated and was then ignored for half an hour, no drinks order, or any acknowledgement at all. Tried to get waitresses' attention a few times but was ignored. So we decided to leave. The manager was apologetic, but it was too late. Shame, it's put me off returning.

Our little home away from home on a long stay in the region. Quite honestly the BEST coffee in all of Derbyshire (and trust me I had to drink a lot dregs to find this nirvana) made on a proper espresso machine using a top brew (Lavazza). Staff are lovely too.
