Lovely little bar up a hill sister pub to green Dragon ,incredible staff, brilliant pizza, good craft and bottle choice, note up some stairs to enter but overall incredible place (Lovely bake shop opposite)

Came in 2023 and ended up eating there and this year my son chose the pizza again. Very nice

Excellent bar right in the heart of Whitby. A hidden gem! The staff were so friendly, there’s great music and a really nice atmosphere. Not a mega huge selection of craft beers, but one of everything that you could want (IPA, Sour, Stout, NEIPA, Cider). We enjoyed a few of our favourites including Vocation, Brew York and New Bristol. Highly recommend! (We didn’t have the food, but it looked and smelt great!)

Love this place. Great craft ales. Great snack food on offer. Only down side up some steep steps so if struggling with mobility inaccessible.

Craft beer from kegs, with a decent selection of interesting beers and cider. Food is toasties or pizza - big hearty grub.

The range of craft beers, gin and wines was amazing. Bottled Porter to die for. No pints, just 2/3 as some are so strong. Hubby does front of house. Wifey does stone baked pizzas and other amazing dishes. Only been opened since November last year, but well worth a visit. It’s opposite kiddy’s corner for the crabs a little doorway on the left leading up some steps at the foot of Poundland hill. Try it, you’ll love it.

Visited on Wednesday evening. Great choice of beers and pizzas. I had the vegetarian pizza and they kindly substituted pineapple for sweetcorn. My husband had the sausage special. Both were amongst the best pizzas we have ever had. Lovely crispy base which didn’t flop when you picked it up and lots of toppings. Would definitely visit again.

Both the staff we interacted with were extremely friendly. Enjoyed the drinks and playing some of the card games they had on the side. Lovely place to sit and chat with friends.

Quirky little bar hidden away. I loved the music on the night we went. Small bar menu. I had a pizza which was exceptionally nice. Perfect combination of thin crisp crust and topping and I am not a pizza fan normally. We tried a couple of the draught beers which come in 2/3 pint glasses (why?). They were nice but not chilled enough for me. But then I'm not a craft beer connoisseur. Would go back next time in Whitby.

I’m between a 3 and a 4 star rating on this one. It’s a quirky upstairs bar that serves excellent pizza in a pleasant welcoming atmosphere with good background music. They offer a small number of well kept handpulled beers as well as variety of bottles. The largest beer measure is 2/3 pint. Salt Brewery Jute session IPA was £4.60 for 2/3 of a pint. That’s the equivalent of an eye watering £6.90 per pint for a nice but not very unusual beer. To me, that’s restaurant prices. Ok if you’re just having a glass with your pizza, but a very expensive night if you’re coming out to a bar for a few beers.

A great wee find! Some brilliant/unusual beers on tap, and the staff are awesome. Didn't try the food, but led to believe their pizzas are a thing of legend in the area.

Quirky Quaint Pub serving craft ales and ciders playing rock music which was perfect, just what we were looking for! 👌🍻 Friendly staff and a nice warm atmosphere made you feel very at home! We loved this pub so much we came here 2 days in a row 🙌

We passed by this place many times and to be honest it was the most wonderful smell of cooking that we experienced every time we passed that pulled us in and wow we weren’t disappointed!! A lovely cosy upstairs bar that served the most amazing pizza!! We actually cancelled our planned visit to the Italian restaurant and ate at the Esk Vaults instead!! Can’t wait to get back again to get some more!!

Unbelievably good pizza, love this place, we come back time and time again. Sometimes you have to wait a bit, but that's because it's all hand prepared and fresh. Well worth the wait. A whitby hidden gem.

First visit here, not sure what to expect climbing the narrow stairs. It was like a loft more than a vault, nicely furnished to suit the room. Craft ales and a small selection of spirits but enough choice to suit most. We also enjoyed a very nice pizza, cooked on site. Not sure if it was just our lucky night but the background music was of our era playing all the ones we liked and at a volume to enjoy without you having to shout across the table at each other. The only reason my stars are not higher was the price of spirit doubles.

I knew I would like this place as soon as I walked in. Music right up my street, food is great, a wonderful drinks selection. And Mark behind the bar absolutely made our experience 👌🏻 Couldn't wait to come back the following day for my birthday and when that clashes with football, I'm always happy to find a "Football Free Zone". Fantastic.

Bar was old school, really nice atmosphere. However I"m still trying to work out how two halves and a small bottle of soda water came to £10.90... ouch!! I queried it but she said that was right. Blimey, that's London prices!

Great beer selection, hard rock/rock and roll feel to the point that it was almost surprising not to find Moor beers :) staff was great, pizza looked good.

2/3 of pints for the price of full pints which is fine if you are providing premium products, but both the IPA and the Italian lager were under carbonated and past their best. Not a particularly warm welcome; "We don't do pints". My mistake, but the deadpan delivery didn't get things off on the right foot.

Had an evening meal here with my family and pet dog. A real gem of a place. Good atmosphere, comfy, great selection of drinks and the small menu of pizzas, toasties and snacks is great. We shared a variety of items which were all tasty and substantial. Service was excellent.

Visited this place after reading the reviews. I have to say i was a bit disappointed, and i personally didn't enjoy the food.

Nice little bar hidden away/upstairs. Whitby town centre across from the Golden Lion/Steep walkway up into Flower gate. Really nice two floor craft and ale bar . Very good bar snacks and menu. Relaxing great music and comfortable. Friendly staff. Take a visit 👍🍻

I liked this place, it had a a good range of craft beer on keg and tins! Service was good and we didn’t have any food so can’t comment on that. Sorry but I felt the decor let it down… was I back in some restaurant from the 80’s with a green carpet and wallpaper on the ceilings! It could be soo much better.

You walk up a small twisting staircase to the 1st floor to fing a cosy small friendly bar the serves Pizza toasties and a huge variety if drink, seek out this hidden Gem hiding in plain sight!

Called in on the off chance as walking past and noticed the advertising boards. Lovely little place, very friendly staff, and dog friendly too. Had an outstanding Chicken pizza, probably one of the nicest I’ve ever had! Beer was ok, but in unusual sizes . 2/3pint ? Would highly recommend this place and plan on visiting again soon.

Visited on 4th of Jan, it wasn't to busy the staff were great. There was a lovely atmosphere and the food and drinks were excellent 👌

Very nice craft beer place. Tap is limited to a few but several option in cans too.

Plenty of real ale drinks from the tap or a variety of bottles/cans. Not heard of many, so even better. Both of us had garlic dough balls & pizza. Fantastic food which took time to prepare & came out piping hot. Great atmosphere & left to drink & eat without being pestered. Will be back. Keep up the good work.

Quite time when I called in for a pizza

Small & welcoming little craft beer bar with a nice little selection on tap and a few in the fridges. Enjoyed the music as was alternative Xmas songs so reckon this place has a good music playlist in general. Definitely recommend for drink or two up the stairs!

Called here a few times on our resent visit to Whitby..the beer was fine but found the staff to be very hit & miss with their attitude & mood.

Look out for this little gem as you might walk straight past it! We had a brilliant couple of hours here and sampled the food which was delicious also dog friendly so gets 5 stars ✨ from us!

Been on a mission to try this bar for a while, finally got in for one and wanted to stay thanks to great atmos & deco but the beers (local green dragon) couldn't be better! Highest of recommendations for a Whitby drink!

A great little find at the bottom of Flowergate, blink and you'll miss it. Staff were lovely here tonight. They had a vegan option pizza on the menu,so we thought we would give it a try. Not disappointed at all, despite it not having vegan cheese on, it was really tasty. They don't serve pints, the biggest is 2/3 , makes them very unique. Great music, mainly rock and metal, but not blasting out. They even have a doodle board which I just had to leave my mark on. The majority of the vault city ales are vegan. Well worth a visit.

Great place for an ale and food, really nice friendly and relaxed vibe. Will be back as the ales were top draw and the food looks fantastic. Also dog friendly which is a bonus 👍

Great little craft bar serving a good selection of beers amazing pizza and a great atmosphere.

Thoroughly enjoyed the pulled pork nachos. Certainly enough to fill me, well made as it wasn't just nachos piled up in a bowl and pulled pork plonked on top. Oh no, this was layered like lasagne. Cheese, jalapeno, pulled pork and nice bbq sauce I think? Made a few more visits to try varied pizza and not disappointed at all. The nachos with pork is also consistent.

Found this place by chance as we walked past. Decided to pop in for a quick drink and stayed all night. Very relaxed place and the pizza we had was superb. A special mention for the music too, being a rock fan it was great to hear some stuff I had long forgotten about! Mark the barman is a really friendly guy who knows his music. Place was so good we went back on the following night. A good variety of craft ales available. Pity more bars are not like this really- love the place!

Excellent ales and amazing food in a friendly atmosphere

What a fabulous find, only seen by chance when the guy was putting the sign out. The atmosphere, the drinks and the gorgeous food,Pizza, garlic dough balls and nachos make it a memorable few hours. The guys who run it are very friendly, the music is chilled it’s dog friendly what more do you want? We are looking forward to our next time in Whitby and this will be first on the list. Well done guys for creating such an amazing space.

Visited 28/9/23 Nice little, place with a good selection of beers, the lad on duty cap/beard (didn’t get his name) deserves a special mention serving drinks, cooking, running food clearing tables han solo, without loosing composure. Only niggle would be the gin selection is a wee bit limited, my mrs love the Whitby Distillery stuff…

What a great place! We love special craft ales and sours and this place did not disappoint, plus it serves yummy pizzas and small bites which is exactly what you want when enjoying a few drinks. The staff were very welcoming and helpful and our dog was made a real fuss of too. We came here a few times during our holiday to Whitby, so highly recommend.

I have stolen this title from a previous contributor (Thank you). Never so true. We visited this fine hostelry as it was just the type of place we were looking for. A small, independent business (I assume), very conveniently, if hidden, positioned. We visited for the real ale (lager, wine & more available). We ended up dining our main course being the home made pizza. Freshly prepared and cooked. Very, very good.

Great choice of beers, really chilled vibe. Nice escape from the busy town, if you like a craft beer I would not hesitate to reccomend.

Dilemma! Do I give this place the review it deserves and risk not being able to get in next we visit, or give it a poor review to keep people away? Only a small place but everything is just right. The beers are good but the pizza's are brilliant. If you like beer and pizza's (and who doesn't), this is a must visit place!

Nearly walked past this place, glad we didn't. They were cool about Big Dog. Pizza is gorgeous ... I couldn't eat a whole one. Amazing Beers, some proper Exotics.. Cool staff, and decent Rock Music. And best of all, non extortionate pricing. A good place to sit and wait for the RAC...(their review will not be as glowing) The Esk Vaults is my new favourite pub...sadly it is 3 hours away..

Lovely little pub/bar tucked out of the way. Good menu, wide selection of beers, really friendly bar staff and a nice chilled atmosphere. Cracking tunes playing as well. Child friendly and good value for money. Highly recommend.

A real gem of a place if you like great beers. We found this place by accident, and went back a number of times during our trip to Whitby. In addition to great beers on tap, they have lots of interesting beers in the fridges too. Highly recommended!

Nice pub great pizza. Having failed to book into a pizza restaurant we were looking for something else but it was a busy night so we stopped in here for a beer. They had a plastic laminated food menu with pizza for £8. We were tired so thought we should eat something but not expecting much. Think again. Great fresh baked pizza, best all trip, just sorry I couldn't finish it all. Good food, good service good atmosphere

Brilliant find in Whitby! First time visiting here, great beers, brilliant pizzas which are really good value for money compared to other places in the town. Really nice quirky place that’s definitely worth a visit.

Great pub, great beers, amazing marinara sauce and great hosts 10/10 would recommend.
