The Electric Bakery in Argyll & Bute

Popped in here several times during our stay on Bute. Great coffee and scones and excellent service from the staff. Can also recommend the morning rolls, shortbread and Abernethy biscuits. Hope to visit again soon.

Fantastic traditional craft bakers. There aren't many of these left and fantastic to find somewhere selling all the proper Scottish favourites. No overpriced rubbish like croissants and cup-cakes, it's everything you want from a Scottish bakery. Empire biscuits, iced gingers, pineapple cakes. I think I worked my way through the whole selection over the week and the Empire biscuits are the best you'll find. Lovely morning rolls too, especially the well fired ones which aren't just burnt like a lot you get. I'll miss my morning walk along the seafront to the bakery. It's everything I want in a bakers shop and so hard to find on the mainland these days.

August weekday arrived at 3.20pm for afternoon tea in the cafe. Told cafe was closed as the shop closed at 4pm. This is peak season -where is the enterprise?

Superb selection of sit in or take away cakes , pastries Teas and coffees , all at a realistic price. My wife and I visited Rothesay on the Island Of Bute in May 2023, we had carry out coffees and cakes. I had the rhubarb filled pie similar to the shell pie shape. It was excellent so much so I went back and bought another 4, ate 2 and took 2 home. Quality home baking, highly recommend

Another great breakfast in this establishment. Should have had breakfast in the hotel we were staying in but that experience was dire. Electric Bakery breakfasts are all cooked fresh and we love visiting when on the island. Great value

Very tasty sausage roll and cookies (like shortbread but not as sweet). The lady who ran the B&B where I stayed referred to Electric Bakery as the place for Scots who like their sugar!

We wandered in and were kindly taken to a seat. The young lady serving us was excellent and recommended the hot chocolate. I had a caramel latte and my partner had the hot chocolate. I tried a chocolate truffle cake homemade and my partner enjoyed the homemade caramel shortbread. Attentive and pleasant and the drinks were great. The chocolate truffle was amazing. Would absolutely return.

A lovely local cafe in the heart of Rothesay, recently refurbished to a nice style, I have been coming here for many years and you always get a great welcome, great pastries too

Called in had a nice meal, serves nice fresh food as well as typical bakers produce, nice cakes scones sandwiches etc, staff friendly, cafe, nice and clean, well worth a visit to either eat in or get a takeaway.

Lovely staff and excellent breakfast cobs. Bacon and egg cobs were just what we needed early in the morning. Thank you!!

We popped in for a takeaway but we weren't impressed, they didnt have much left and what they did have was all cold but they offered to microwave them. The cheese and onion pastry was completely black and tastied burnt and the steak bake was just ok. They had no label's or allergy info on any of the products. Dont think we would return.

Great bakery with brilliant range of goodies, got a tasty macaroni cheese to eat for lunch, plus tonnes of scotch pies, biscuits, bakes. My favourite was the scotch pie with onion, will return just to get a bagfull to take home. Lovely friendly staff who take pride in good food and service. Keep it up!

Had arrived off the ferry & had a carry out lunch . Food was varied & excellent . The square next door with the castle in the background was a perfect place to enjoy our snacks . Recommend the vegetarian pie

Having tasted their delicious iced ginger slice on the ferry over from Wemyss Bay was keen to see what else they had on offer. We had a couple of nice lunchtime rolls on one day and also some lovely breakfast filled rolls on our last full day in Rothesay.

Enjoyed a lunchtime sandwich and husband had a very tasty cake. Very busy but did manage to get the last table. Staff friendly.

I visited this little bakery/cafe every day at lunchtime during a 4 day stay in Rothesay. Food/snacks/cakes were delightful and very reasonable priced. A great choice of traditional Scottish Fare and I would recommend to anyone visiting the town.

The Electric Bakery has been trading for a good many years, so they clearly know what they're doing. All of the bakery items are good quality and tasty, from the extensive range of morning rolls and bread loaves to sandwiches, pies, cakes and food to go. If you need any bakery items, you cannot improve on the quality selection you will get from TEB.

Lovely bakery with coffee shop attached. Stopped by for a latte and a Viennese whirl Before heading home. Good value for money and friendly staff. Can definitely recommend the biscuits!

Before visiting the museaum, needed some lunch. The name is because it was the first one in Rothesay to use Electricity for cooking rather than gas. The electricity from the electric tram company.The espresso is one of the best I have ever had. So I had a second one !The toasties are out of this world.Great place for a light lunch.

Bought rolls wholemeal and white and they were lovely and fresh and tasty the potato scones are also very good i would recommend the bakery

Daughter enjoyed the crumpets, had lunch here one day it was alright, always busy, open 7 days a week.

This was our third time visiting the Electric Bakery. We visited first in 2005 and then again in 2016 and this time in 2018 it was just as good. We had a pot of tea and a toffee muffin and if we ever visit Rothesay again this this is one place we are sure to visit.

Simple lunch. Cold rolls, baguettes and coffee. Good quality at reasonable prices.Very clean. Would go again

Bought excellent potato scones and fruit scones on a visit to Rothesay. Would recommend this bakery both on quality and on price.

Nice tasty bites to enjoy here and it has a separate cafe to sit in.Looks like staff efficient but a wee smile would have been nice.

Lovely cafe with fresh cakes made on the premises. There was a full menu if you required a proper meal. Staff were very friendly.

Well, what a place. You are spoilt for choice and can gorge your desires on the most utterly vile, rancid Scotch pie ever or the most mediocre, stale morning rolls available in Scotland. This parlous establishment has for too long indolently trolled the depths of mediocrity mindful of it's privileged monopoly.

Susan greeted us with a warm welcome and we were seated promptly. Just a lovely wee cup of tea and an Empire Biscuit (definitely the Best Empires we've ever tasted.)

We spent a few houses in Rothsay and wanted a light lunch. We had macaroni cheese pies and coffee. I had never had this before as I cant remember ever seeing these in England. They were fantastic and so was the coffee. Popular with the locals for a quick lunch or a take out. Which is always a good sign. Clean and friendly

We happened across this bakery after getting an early morning ferry across to Bute. £12 for two breakfasts toast and hot drinks, all of which was cooked fresh for us. Service was great, really friendly.

Had a lovely tuna onion and mayo sandwich,other half had cheese spring onion and mayo both on brown bread very moist and tasty,pot of tea each,very reasonable prices and friendly staff,will be back tomorrow.

The best bread rolls you’ll get anywhere! Great Scottish Pies savoury and sweet, always good for a tea or coffe in town also.

Called on two days for a spot of lunch. Did not need much because the hotel filled us at breakfast. Settled for fruit scones and tea, my husband had not chocolate which came with cream and marshmallows. The scones were beautifully fresh and the tea and chocolate hot. It was also very reasonably priced

You get what you see through the window... 1960's boring cafe fare with one pretty surly member of staff... but thats what you got back in the day. Many of the eateries have upped their game in the town but this ones stuck in a timewarp. The food is ok for what it is

Had a super coffee and sandwich in this local shop and staff very friendly. Very centrally situated for adjoining shops. Price very reasonable.

Bought what looked like nice steak pies and scotch pies but when heated for dinner they were absolutely disgusting and got thrown out for the seagulls. There were six dead seagulls on the shore the following morning.

Local bakers with fresh baked produce. Right in the heart of town and accessible by car but only 2minute walk from ferry. Would recommend to anyone over for the day for a quick snack or baked goods.

Delicious food, reasonably priced with friendly service, what more could you ask for? We always use the electric bakery when visiting bute for our Scottish breakfast fix. Keep up the good work ladies 👍🏼

Bakery selection is large pieces of old style Scottish products. Not exactly what is now in vogue but adequate and tasty enough. Tearoom section is small, service is what you would expect from this type of place.

This cafe /bakery does scones to die for ,I haven't had any like these even in Devon . We popped in just for a coffee and couldn't resist them

Nice service and a comfortable venue for morning or afternoon teas and light meals. Table service is provided.

A range of bakery foods but the bread we bought was mouldy within 2 days and an apple turnover had a small spoon of apple in it.

The food is simple and wholesome and the staff friendly. A traditional Scottish bakery at its best. But what a pity about the toilets - not very clean, disgusting flooring and ageing decor - a simple refurbishment would make all the difference

Nos pop por aquí todo el tiempo para las plazas de fruta y los bollos de Chelsea. Nos encantan por lo que respecta a la dieta, aunque no son realmente no les permitió resistir bastante. También tienen un muy buen curry en aquí.

Not much space- tables were crowded and cramped in terms of space. Staff were nice and efficient though. Menu was ok.

If it's good no nonsense Scottish pies, bridies, cakes etc you're after, this is your place. Great little traditional local bakery with smiley, chatty staff also serving coffee, tea and good simple meals.

Great little cafe well used by the locals the staff are friendly helpful and very obliging. The coffee is excellent as are their home nade cakes and buns etc. Only one problem be warned dont go on if you slimming everything is to irresistible, so go on indul yourself its wellworth it

Since Muirs closed down a decent Scotch pie or roll and square sausage has been hard to find on Bute. But look no further than the Electric Bakery it has filled to hole left behind. Great food nice staff, decent surroundings - well done!

Stopped off here to have our morning coffee and a scone with jam and butter. Coffee was very good and the scones were very yummy. On our way out we spotted some lovely looking currant squares and just has to buy 2 for later on in the day. Well worth a visit .

It's the only bakery on the island , so when we come over to the holiday flat it's the only place for rolls and very nice pies and bridies. But omg the staff are the most ignorant people I've ever met. I opened the door , there were no other customers, just me , but the three staff behind the counter didn't even acknowledge me , then once they had finished Their conversation the one with the funny streak in her hair said "whit" , she smelled like a vodka factory, the food is nice but be prepared for unacceptable customer care. The owner should start breathalise certain staff what an embarrassment at 9 o'clock in the morning. I certainly will not be back.

Nowhere else appeared open when we walked through on a Sunday morning, cold off the ferry from Wemyss Bay.Had to take the takeaway tea back as it was cold and weak: teabag left in the cup for about three seconds!And when we asked for a latte, instant coffee was about to be served when we interrupted to ask if they'd mind using their coffee machine. Still tasted awful. Should have gone to the Scullery down the road.Avoid.

Just popped in for Scotch pies and sausage rolls; both were superb, with tasty and plentiful fillings.

We remembered this cafe from a previous visit to Rothesay in 2005 and went in for tea and cakes and were not disappointed we shared an apple square and a currant square the latter being exceptional being made from a mixture of currants and mince meat. This is the sort of cafe that if you lived in Rothesay you would go in.

A throwback to the coffee shops of my youth, (a long time ago) delicious milky coffee made in front of you, a great selection of snacks and cakes made on the premises and delightful pleasant staff. Great!

Been calling here for many years. Good to see the standard of service and quality is as good as ever.

Called in for lunch, had fish and chips (wish I hadn't), quite expensive, hard as a rock and dry inside.Possibly the worst I have ever had; and they only accept cash.

Well I felt well & truly ripped off! 2 lukewarm soup & rolls 2 very unsubstantial sandwiches & 2 Latte £14:00. In Scotland hot food should be served 82 degrees the soup was barely 50 degrees yes it was tasty enough but nothing to shout about. Looking at the £3:00 toasties they were selling 2 of the thinnest slices of bread with very little filling. Appears its profit all the way for this place.

Always go here for my bread and savories when staying in Rothesay. Great selection of hot and cold nibbles.

What more can I say. Only visited this place to escape weather but waitress was pleasant and coffee and cake good.

We only had sandwiches and cakes but everything was beautifully fresh and the bread so soft and delicious. There were many options for sandwich fillings and they were made to order. There were sufficient staff on duty and they were pleasant and helpful.

Recently visited whilst on holiday in Rothesey. The café is only small but we were lucky to find a seat and our order was taken promptly by a very friendly lady. I ordered a latte and a pancake with strawberry jam which was delicious. My husband chose a currant slice which was full of fruit which he enjoyed. The bakery is very popular and excellent choice of cakes etc to take out or enjoy in the café. Would recommend.

Popped in for lunch with my son and he had a tuna sandwich, whilst I had a bridie and chips. Both excellent and a pot of tea with a double espresso to wash it all down. Thoroughly enjoyable and good service. Highly recommended.

Reminded me of being young and going out for a treat, back in the 1960's. The smell of disinfectant from the toilets being cleaned was overpowering in the cafe, as the door opened directly in. Weak coffee, but a good range of cakes.

Went yesterday for a bit of lunch to the sit in cafe...... burger chips and price was very acceptable. But felt the need to go back for a few buns later. Young lady member of staff was outstanding (diesel shoes) very pretty and a real asset to the shop. I'd buy buns everyday to see that gorgeous chick.....

Good wholesome foods and some delightfully naughty ones too. Always one of the highlights of our trip to bite to get rolls and pastries.

Recommended by locals to have breakfast here and we weren't disappointed. Lovely food, excellent service and incredible staff.

We visited the Island for a weekend as a party of 25...because we know the island and this bakery well we thought it best to order our rolls I called and advised them what ferry I would arrive on and they had my order ready for me.... Fresh baked rolls nothing like the supermarket.... Give them a try if you visit Bute you won't be dissapointed... The cafe is brilliant too.

We had our lunch at the Electric Bakery, lovely & tasty it was too, Great selection of tasty food & cakes, hot or drinks to 'eat in' or 'take away'.

Macaroni n cheese to die for, just on the main shopping strip would recommend for a brew n snack, not much room for sitting in to eat

Went in for a cuppa the other day and was really disappointed in the service and quality of the food.Waitresses were inattentive, food basic and - as the title suggests - when I ordered a Scotch pie it arrived MICROWAVED. Soggy on the outside, colder than a polar bear's big toe on the inside. Urgh.I think the term "bakery" is stretching it I'm afraid.

A wee lunch while sitting watching the world go by on a rainy day, a freshly made sandwich with a hot cuppa was enjoyable.

Very good value. Full Breakfast costs about £6 with tea. Victoria will cost you a tenner. No frills but adequate. Very busy very often, because of this.

On a cold morning we popped in and not wanting a big meal we opted for a chip butty. A delicious snack of a buttered bap filled with red hot chips in a polystyrene container complete with a very efficient fork to eat them with.! We took ours to the seafront and sat in the sun in a sheltered spot to eat and loved it.! Then went back and had a lovely cuppa. Great stuff!

We popped in here for morning tea on a very wet Rothesay morning. The cappuccino was adequate (really just milky coffee with froth on top), the Earl Grey tea was fine (can't do too much wrong there) and the sultana scone was a bit sweet. The toilet didn't have any toilet paper, a problem that was immediately rectified. The service was friendly enough. On two other occasions we visited the Electric Bakery to buy potato scones and a Scotch pie. I asked for the pie to be heated. Unfortunately it was put in a microwave which meant that it ended up soggy and overly hot. The potato scones were nice but the pie was binned after we left the shop. Rothesay badly needs a quality bakery.

While we were holidaying at Rothsay, it was the other half's birthday, and I was able to order a great birthday cake from The Electric Bakery. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and produced a wonderful iced birthday cake as requested. Excellent service & excellent cake!

This is a fab bakery, try the rolls, they are 'real' rolls not plastic! The selection of cakes is excellent, particularly the Empire biscuits, my husband loves them

All the staff very friendly and welcomed the children no problem. One of the staff even paid out of their own pocket for an old lady who didn't have enough to pay for her order

Sat in to have some lunch and a lovely big cake with coffee. All good.Had a take away breakfast a few weeks later and only received ONE LINK SAUSAGE on my roll. Couldn't believe my eyes. They had cut it in 2! Cardinal sin to a Scottish person. Roll was dry with no offer of sauce either.

Went and got my potato scones and cakes as well as shortbread never disappointed everything was very tasty and well baked

This place is always worth a visit the small rhubarb tarts are fantastic, as is the apple slice. Brown buns where a good find when the white had gone, went back for more brown.

A tad tired and dated like a lot of the island, but the service was good and the food was good value and tasty too!

Pop here all the time when visiting. You get a good selection of good old fashioned cakes and pastries.The girls are all cheerful.Their baguettes are very good, full of filling and not very expensive.one thing they do do, is excellent. Small portions of home made chicken curry. Very cheap, taste and good value.Great place.................never change

There is a ground-floor bistro, with an upstairs restaurant boasting beautiful views. we chose the latter, but the views were not as good as we were lead to believe, and the staff were absolutely awful! Food mediocre, very expensive and a pretty rotten experience altogether

A nice place to stop for a cup of coffee and a cake, but a little uninspiring inside. Typical bakers tea shop that serves food. not great but not bad either.

Unfortunately I do not particularly enjoy sitting in the bakery for a cuppa with cake etc , as a tea lover I find it not to my taste sitting inOn the plus side I thoroughly enjoy the produce bought at the bakery counter . I buy all my rolls, pies and occasionally take a notion for a cake as a treat. Staff are friendly , the place is always clean and prices are reasonable .

Was in electric bakery sat 27th June had some snacks and was really nice. Service good staff very friendly and very fair priced. Ideal if your shopping in town right of montage street recommend

Just popped into the Electric Bakery for a wee cuppa and ended up ordering a Hot Chocolate which was very nice. Staff were on the ball and the check was on the table before we were ready to leave which was surprising as it was not a busy time of day. Toilets were clean.

Great home baked scones and delicious coffee. Staff very friendly and served with a smile. Cleanliness first class. Keep up good work all.
