Brilliant meal, cooked by Ali and with the kind and prompt attentions of Nash who served us. They had made every effort to decorate the restaurant for Valentine’s Day which helped the atmosphere. A lot cheaper, and better food than the eye wateringly expensive Indian restaurant down the road!

Been here for many years. Have tried most of the dishes on the menu now and it just cannot be beaten. Have tried many other Indian Restaurants/Takeaways up and down the country but they never come close. Always feel welcomed here and it's really cosy inside. (Book for a booth). The lamb here is so tender it just melts in your mouth many places are normally chewy. Dishes to try: Prawn/King Prawn Puri for starter. Honestly tastes amazing especially with the puffed puri under the delicious prawn curry. Highly recommend Tandoori Mixed Grill to get the best of both the chicken and the lamb. You get a lot for the price. A side of Onion Bhajis. These are proper balls not the flat dry types you get. Tasty and crispy. A great combination with any curry. If you make it. Enjoy a fresh coffee with cream for afters.

My favourite Indian restaurant and take away. I have been eating here for over 25 years and never had a bad meal. Yes the place is old and dated but gives it a character more than some modern restaurants who chic looks hide bad service and poor food. Service is polite and not intrusive. I occasionally have a take away which I always collect. They do deliver but it takes time.

Had a shocking take away on Friday. Had to pick up so went into the restaurant. Really dirty walls and furniture. I don’t think it’s been decorated for over 20 years. My son ordered the classic chicken tikka masala. This was 6 pcs of chicken in a long foil container swimming in tomato soup flavoured with curry sauce. The whole meal was really disappointing. My advice to the owner is go to Dishoom and be inspired... It could be a gold mine up there... And get the place decorated... NEVER AGAIN... Plus had a bad stomach all day Saturday ...

Ignore any negative comments as anyone used to TripAdvisor will know that some people find fault anywhere and just love to complain. This restaurant serves very tasty authentic cuisine freshly prepared and not the greasy serving you often get in budget 'Indian restaurant'. The food can be prepared hotter if you like however we prefer the subtle aromatic flavours that come by default here. One word of warning, the place looks very dated and in need of some refurbishment but don't let that put you off. Also when busy you might feel that you don't get 100% of the waiter's attention but it's about the food - right?! This is a little gem in the heart of Elstree. I hope that my comments don't cause too many people to book as I might not be able to get a reservation next time :-)

We arrived and waiters quite attentive, we had been a handful of times before and the main courses vary in the time it takes to get to the table, which depends on how busy they r for that evening in the restaurant plus they do a takeaway service as well, so we have found that sometimes the takeaways were leaving the restaurant before we had our mains. We have waited 1hr n 15 mins b fore n the food is really lovely and tasty, which u can't fault, but wen u r so hungry... we were given discount that nite but the food as I say is lovely, nice atmosphere too. Would recommend but u may have t wait a bit!

The decor is enough to put anyone off and there are judgments to be made at any restaurant purely based on the physical state of their menus. On this basis, The Eastern Brasserie would have no customers but this is NOT the case. The food is among the best I have tasted. Not pretentious but well flavoured. The service is friendly. Please spend a few hundred pounds to freshen the interior and you would well be worth 5 stars.

It is not often I see my cousin so when we come to UK we always look them up and have an Indian meal. Although the food is good, the place is a bit tacky and a fresh coat of paint and a revamp of the seating is desperately needed. The owner was crowing about his new carpet. I last went to the Eastern Brasserie in the late 1990's and I would swear the place was not new then!! They brought us 4 papadums, which when you do not order them are usually free: here they cost 95p each, which is a bit steep. We had to ask for the chutneys. The food when it came was plentiful, and hot, although not too "hot". I normally like to list what we had, and the cost, but it is not the company's policy to give the account to the patrons and David payed the bill. Very Strange!! I do recall that their lassis were quite thin, and they did not have a mango lassi when I asked for it. In Dx136's review he said he did not know why VAT at 2.5% was added. Their menus are so old that when VAT went up they did not change the VAT portion just added it to the bill. Curiouser and curiouser. The $64,000 is would we go back. The answer is maybe, but there are better restaurants serving the same sort of cuisine in newer surroundings. Elstree is only a couple of miles from Edgware High Street with its plethora of restaurants. If we go back in 6-7 years time the EB may not even be there.

We should have walked out the moment but the grubbing ness only registered after we had set down. Cold reception, loud arguments coming from the kitchen, strutting lead waiter with very poor attitude, loud voice and appalling customer service offering, dirt ingrained plastic basket in which the poppadoms came, food speckled wall by our table, the list is endless. Surprisingly the food arrived hot and seemed fresh. The younger waiter was trying to be professional. This place needs a serious overhaul - it needs cleaning desperately, decorating urgently and the staff need training camp o offer stellar service ASAP

To start me and my partner were served a starter of papadums with slimy onions and a green dip that I couldn't identify but tasted awful we were rudely asked what we wanted. After ordering 2 vegetable curries, a cheese naan and a garlic naan we were served a starchy, dry curry each and a keema naan! We are both vegetarian and after alerting the waiter to the fact that we had been served meat he just walked off leaving the keema naan on our plates then came back a while later and slapped down a cheese naan in a very angry manner. (As if we were the ones in the wrong!)After being ignored for the rest of the meal when we tried to request a tap water and for the keema naan to be removed from our table we asked for the bill as we just wanted to leave. To add salt to the wound they tried to charge us for the replacement naan then lied about it when we bought it to his attention on the receipt. We will not be returning and I advise that anybody looking for an edible meal does the same.AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

This place was highly recommended to me for quality food at a good price. Sadly when we got there, this was not the case! Firstly we only received one menu between the four of us. When ordering our food, the waiter kept being distracted and then we had to wait 40 minutes for our starter. In addition to this, when our food arrived it was tepid and one of the meals wasn't what was ordered. When we spoke to the waiter about this, he was rude and failed to solve the issue. Eventually he offered to get the right meal and claimed it would only take 7 minutes when we had already waited another 40 minutes for our main meal. To top it all off, we were not offered any compensation and were clearly over charged for our meal. They had the audacity to argue the price of the bill. My advice...don't go!

Basically if he didn't want you to have something he made it clear. The food was so so poor we were going to leave mid meal. There was remains of food all up the walls the whole place was rundown. If we hadn't of been starving and eating so late we would have walked out. Just don't go. The only reason I could think people rate this place is that they have no context of a premium dining experience vs a shocker,of an experience. This is the worst dining experience I have had in the last 12 months and I eat out 3-4 times a month.

Ok fair enough, but why were we not warned before we sat down? This just didn't really add up.So we insisted on giving the machine a try but the waiter seemed a little nervous still insisting it wouldn't work.Eventually the card machine was produced and low and behold it had full signal. Transaction went through just fine. Conclusion - The waiting staff try this trick to pocket free cash. I doubt it's a tax thing, it's more of a wages top up.So I will not be returning, the food was average at best.

Our first impulse, on entering this perfectly intact example of a 1970s Indian restaurant, was to flee but we'd arrived starving and with no energy to look for somewhere else so reluctantly and against our better judgement we decided to stay. The Eastern Brasserie hilariously proclaims itself the purveyor of 'contemporary' Indian cuisine but is an eating establishment untouched by upholsterers, carpet salespeople or decorators for a very long time.We sat down expecting the worst. We laughed but I felt like a condemned man. This, I thought, was going to be terrible. Terrible from a time before fresh herbs. Terrible and consequences too. The only hopeful sign was the number of waiters on duty (four of them - though we were the only diners) and the fact that they wore clean white shirts and bow-ties. Bow-ties in a contemporary restaurant? Well, it jars but it shows some kind of dedication to customer service, I think.Next came the menu. A tatty, grubby, semi-laminated darkly printed affair with cursory descriptions of standard Indian dishes. Nothing contemporary here but that lack of modernity applies to the prices too. The place is more dated than a '70s sitcom but, fair enough, the prices are from that era too. £4.95 for Lamb bhuna? £4.95?We were now even more convinced this was going to be terrible. Firstly, our plates arrived and they were burning hot. Not the food yet. The plates. I like that. It's good customer service. Then the food. It was ridiculously good. Yes, you heard me. It was. We ordered 7 dishes for the 4 of us (four mains and three side dishes), together with 3 different types of breads and pilau rice too.The mehti gosht was probably the most delicious thing I've had in an Indian restaurant (and I've been eating in Indian restaurants for 40 years). The lamb was meltingly tender and the sauce authentically fragrant and veritably from the east. The dal was excellent. The chick pea and spinach was too. Some dishes spicy hot; others mild and fragrant. Everything was spot on.We were amazed. It wasn't just better than the '70s. It was better than most of those 'contemporary' Indian restaurants from the '80s, '90s '00s and even those from the '10s.The price? £60 for four hungry men who over-ordered. In keeping with everything else, because the menus haven't been re-printed since the rate of VAT last went up, they add 2.5% to the final bill. (So that bhuna is actually £5.12...pfff) To be honest, looking at the prices, I reckon they actually might not have gone up since Thatcher put VAT up.The only complaint we had was that the Cobra draught beer is not kept well and was undrinkable.Eat here if you like great Indian food and don't mind threadbare carpets.

He’s really friendly and approachable which makes you want to spend extra time at the restaurant. He also wants feedback from customers to know how the service (food, atmosphere) was. Whenever, I’m puzzled with what to eat, he recommends me satisfying mouth watering dishes e.g. salmon tikka, sea bass chilli massala which are hardly on the menu. Due to this, I have recommended many other customers to visit this place, thankfully because of NASH.
